Chapter Two

Amon and Robin were in the car, fighting the crush of the traffic through downtown Tokyo toward the STN headquarters. It was wall to wall cars, making headway was not in the cards then.

Amon looked at the clock in the dashboard, and sighed.
“ We are only a hour and a half late.” He smirked, chuckling under his breath slightly
“ Who’s fault us that?” Grinned Robin, eluding the reason they were running behind.
“ I just saw you, naked and could not help myself” He admitted with a playful smile “ You unhappy about that?”
“ No!” She giggled, feeling herself blush. She was not sorry about that. “ It’s just that they are getting use to us going together, and living together too, and this will make them think we were doing something, instead of getting into the office.”
“ We sort of were.” He said, smiling widely. “ They don’t know about us getting married yet either.”

Robin nodded, knowing that their co-workers knew nothing about that. She kne the time would come to divulge this little secret.
“ When should we tell them that?” Questioned Robin.
“ How about when you are showing that your pregnant too.” He suggested with a laugh.
“ That is not funny.” She sternly said. “ We want them to see us get married, right.”

Amon nodded, and calmed himself down from his ribbing of the girl. He looked over and smiled.
“ And speaking of getting married... do you want to invite anyone in particular to the wedding?”
“ Oh..” She gasped, a her mind seemed to have hit on something. “ What will I tell my Grandfather?”
“ I forgot about him. “ He said. “ Knowing what the Catholic church looks upon sex before marriage, this might be a problem.”

Robin just nodded and stayed quiet, patting her stomach. She knew, her Grandfather might not look upon this good. She slipped into silence, her mind thinking on what he might have to say about this. She felt angry at herself, for not thinking of this before.

Siting quietly at the wheel, Amon realized the he had never thought about that. He was just thinking on their wedding and the baby, and feeling like he was on top of the world. He had not thought about Father Juliano and what he might say. He found himself worried, as the girl’s faith was strong, and this was against the church and their teachings.

An explosion high above the street, brought the two of them back into the real world from the depths of their thoughts. They looked up, as they sat waiting for traffic to move, being that they had not moved in ten minutes.
“ What was that?” Amon commented, looking up. Robin craned over to see what it was also.

He saw on a building just behind them, a large black cloud of smoke coming from the roof of a mortgage broker’s office building. They squinted against the bright sun to try and make out what it all was about.

They just looked, and could see a tower of some sort hanging precariously over the roof lip. It was a mass of twisted and blackened metal girders, flames were leaping up from somewhere around it. It seemed to be hanging there, in pieces and smoking heavily.

Amon was shocked at the sight. They had seen many things in Tokyo, but this was one to put in the record books.
“ I am not sure what happened to it.” He said, looking up at the scene. “ There was no strong winds here.”
“ Possibly a transformer blew?” Thought Robin out loud, looking at the wreckage on the building..
“ Possible, or it could be sabotage too.” Pointed out Amon, thinking of all of the possibilities.
“ Terrorists?” Said Robin, shocked with the thought.
“ Possible too.” The tall man nodded, then sitting back up in his seat. “ Either was, it is not a STN-J matter”

The traffic started to move just then, as they could hear the approaching fire trucks from farther behind them. Amon just followed the flow of the cars, hoping that they would get a little bit of luck and they would move more than a few feet a minute.

Forty five minutes later, Amon and Robin got into the offices. They hurried themselves in, knowing that they were extremely late.

Chief Kosaku was waiting there, and seemingly in one really bad mood. He stood right in front of them, arms crossed. Michael was looking on, his face showing no emotions as the STN head confronted the two late people.
“ You two are quite late!!” The Chief said, sternly as he stared right at the arriving pair. “ What is the excuse that made you so late?”

Amon just looked at the man.
“ We were late getting out of the house, and then we hit a large amount of traffic on the way too.” He said, being as truthful as possible without divulging the reason they had left home so late.
“ I heard the traffic was backed up downtown..” The man said, seemingly not as mad as he was. “ A microwave transmission tower exploded on a office building rooftop, and nearly fell onto the roadway.”
“ We saw that coming in on the mainway.” Robin said, chiming in with what they had seen.
“ Very well then.” The Chief said, taking the explanation at face value. “ Just try and get in on time tomorrow, shall we?”

Chief Kosaku began to walk off, then stopped dead where he was and turned.
“ Oh, I should inform you..” He said, slapping his own forehead with a loud smack. “ We are on standby with the Tower case.”
“ On stand by?” Amon asked, perplexed at the order given by the man. “ Terrorists and other type of sabotage are not in the STN’s jurisdiction.”
“ The police have already informed us that this was no sabotage, or any thing else for that mater- with no explosives, accident or weather related phenomenon evident in the first sweep of the area, they are trying to call it ‘witch related’ in that.”

Robin looked at the Amon, then at her boss. She could see the sight of their microwave, after it had blown clear apart, in her head right then. She just pushed the picture out of her mind as being very coincidental, as a microwave transmitter was not the same as a home microwave oven.

She just sighed and nodded to acknowledge the standing orders they had been given.
“ Yes, Sir.” She said, walking over to her side of the room.
“ Very well, Chief.” Amon said, moving towards his workstation.

To their desks, the two lovers hurried themselves, feeling lucky that they were in not as much trouble as they were dreading they would be. They just put what had happened into memory, as other work must be done while waiting to see if they would be called out to this strange situation.

The office fell into the silence of work, as the rest of them were all coming in at once.
