Chapter Eight
The alarm awoke robin right at nine the next morning. She turned it off and layed there, feeling the emptiness of the bed. She sighed, as she thought about the note, and her meeting with her missing man. She was excited and afraid all at the same time. She layed there for a few minutes, the scheduled meeting with her boss unnerved her a little. Hearing that a high ranking SOLOMON agent was in town so unexpectedly made her fear for her man’s life a little. She did not know that for sure, but that was a possibility to be not passed off lightly.
Robin sat up in the bed, and looked around the empty bedroom for long moments as she tried to calm herself a little bit. She was just going to get up, have a coffee or two and wait until it was time to leave for the offices.
A faint sound came to her ear from not too far off from her. It was coming from the front room, just outside her closed bedroom door. It was so very faint, almost as if it was nonexistent, but Robin knew she heard it and not her mind playing tricks on her.
She thought it might be Amon for a moment, yet her instincts told her that was not the case. The sound was too faint for him and his large build, but what could it be was not clear. She listened a little harder, she thought she now heard very hushed voices coming from her front room. She did know one thing, the voice, however whispered, was not his. She felt her chest tighten, as the unknown seemed to be right outside the door
She swung her legs over the edge of the bed as fast as she could, trying to figure out just who had entered the apartment, and why. She began to reach for her robe when the bedroom door shattered inwardly in the form of millions little splinters that sprayed the room with the remnants of the wood.
Three large men in dark clothing and armored mailings, each were carrying a weapon as they burst in to the room. They turned like they were one, with there weapons cocked and fingers ready in the triggers at the only person that was in the room. They suddenly froze right where they stood with total shock. They were all probably not expecting to find a naked young teenager standing there, staring them down.
Robin did not wait for anything, and acted as the intruders hesitated. She had her glasses already somehow in her hands, then on her face. She stared the men down, as flames appeared all over their bodies at the will of the young hunter girl.
The men screamed, as the girl lit them up like a roman candle. Flames ate at the armor on their bodies, and could be seen literally melting the suits with ease. The men began shooting as the flames licked at them all over.
The naked girl was not where the men had encountered her, but she had tucked and rolled to the other side of the room the time the first shots were fired. She came out of her roll almost behind them and flamed their backs with even more of an intense fire, not giving them a chance to get her first.
Two of the men fell to the ground and curled up into the fetal position, their weapons scattered on the floor but they were still alive. The other had not lost his feet yet, and was actively searching for the girl visually. He seemed partially blinded as his face was partially burned on one side from the intensity of the flames, the helmet he had been wearing nothing more than a melted blob on the carpet.
Taking no chances at another confrontation with the lone man, Robin just bolted for the door, snatching the clothes she had layed out so meticulously the night before on the way out from a small trunk they had beside the doorway. She thanked God for her habit of being organized, as she made her escape.
The girl did not hesitate, and ran headlong. She found her front door jimmied open, and she too advantage of it and raced out on to the landing to the apartment. The naked girl on her bare feet raced from her apartment, her heart booming loudly in her chest. She quickly made her way down a very unused back way, knowing that the lone man could be chasing her down any second
She burst forth into the alleyway that was behind the building, and saw Touko sitting in her car just a few feet away, obviously just going off to work. She bolted from the door to her car in a blink of an eye, and opened the back door- diving into the seat beyond like if she was in the Olympics.
Touko was startled, as someone dove into her car. She turned quickly in her seat and saw it was the naked form of Robin that had jumped into the seat.
“ What the hell...” She said loudly.
“ Drive, Touko, DRIVE!!” Yelled the young girl at the top of her lungs as she clamored to sit up in the seat.
“ Where? What....” Touko stammered, flustered with all of this.
“ GO!!” shouted the girl, louder than before. “ Get us out of here!!”
The woman stopped her questioning and punched the gas petal hard to the floor. The car flew forward and down the alleyway, accelerating with each passing moment. Robin was busy looking out of the back window to notice the woman’s mask of confusion.
As she felt the car hit the street with a lurch, she saw the lone gunman race out of the building’s backway. The man seemed to not know that Robin had made her getaway, and was looking around frantically the small space of the alley for the young girl.
Robin turned back and began to dress in the clothes she had gripped in her hands so tightly. Touko was not as calm as the lass was, as she was nearly hyperventilating as she tried to speak to the young craft-girl.
“ What is this? What is going on, and why are you naked?” She asked, her voice was screaming out the questions.
“ Keep driving.” Robin commanded, pulling a piece of paper out of her dress pocket. “ Drop me off downtown, and do not say a word to anyone.”
“ Are you going to tell me just what the hell is going on?” Insisted the woman, her eyes planted on the road ahead of her. “ And why am I driving you around the city naked in the back seat of my car?”
“ I think I am being hunted.” The girl said flatly, then fell silent as she continued to clothe herself.
That reality was all too clear for the young girl. The hunter had now become one of the hunted. She could only think of Amon, and her baby that was growing inside of herself.
The woman at the wheel seemed puzzled, but nodded her head. She knew what the statement meant, and she just kept on driving. Falling silent, she payed more attention to the growing traffic that was on the road this morning, but her breathing showed the amount of bone chilling fear that was inside of the woman.
Robin just sighed and pulled on the rest of her clothes as the car sped along. She was sure of one thing, it was no coincidence of the man from SOLOMON arriving, then the three armed men invading her home. She was sure that either Amon or herself, was the target of that squad of men.
All she knew what to do was to hide out until the time to meet Amon came. Now she knew, her meeting with the chief could have been a ruse. The question now was why?
