Witch Hunter Robin Fan Fiction ❯ Of little things ❯ Things that crawl... ( Chapter 6 )
Amon and Robin were up early the next morning. The sun was just peeking into the pasific sky, but they had been up for almost an hour by then. They knew that they could waste no time in getting themselves better hidden.
Robin had almost packed up all of her meager possessions in the dufflebag they had gotten her when they ran. Amon was already packed, but they could not check out for about an hour or so. He had just busied himself and used the in-room coffee maker to brew a pot for their wait. Each had not said a word since they had gotten up, only had busied themselves straight off. It seemed like they both had things on their collective minds.
Amon handed the girl a mug, as she came over to the small table that was in the room. She sniffed the coffee and gave a large smile. Amon actually gave a small chuckle, as he saw the look of pleasure flow over her face. Robin noted the man's chuckle and began to giggle along with him. Looking at each other, they stopped their mirth and sipped on their mugs.
With the laughing died off finally, they simply sat with each other, sipping their coffees, yet strangely they were still silent.
Amon put down his coffee mug and crooked his head over to one side, his face showed an odd expression. The young girl was quite understanding why the man's sudden change of expression.
" Amon?" She asked, in a soft question.
" Shhh!" He said sharply in a whisper. " Be quiet for a second!"
Now very confused with being quieted so rudely like that. She looked at the man with a inquiring face, studying his face for anything that would tell her, but never said anything. She wondered what the man was on edge about.
The man did not see the girl's face, but he was seemingly listening very intently. His hand already had brought out the large caliber gun he had strapped to his hip. Robin saw him draw his weapon and her body tensed, feeling the man's quick change to vigilance. Something had caught his attention, she thought.
The hotel door suddenly burst open, as if someone had kicked it. A long haired, white skinned man in a bulky overcoat stood there, legs sturdily parted. He turned to look at the two in the room, his gaze was cold and glassy, his expression blank. At the intruder's feet, it seemed as if the carpet of the hotel room was alive as he took a step into the hotel room.
Amon raised his gun and went to one knee, beading down on the stranger. The man looked over with a glare, seemingly dismissing the gun that was leveled against him, and give a chilling type of smirk. The carpet suddenly seemed to move towards Amon, as if it the fabric of it was alive.
Amon looked down and found that the living carpet was made up of a multitude of roaches, spiders, scorpions and other creepy insects. As one, this hoard of crawlies seemed to be moving, as if under one single control. The tall ex-hunter went to move, but the wave of horrors engulfed him like wave on the ocean, swarming over every inch of his body on mass. The sheer numbers of the bugs knocked him down, and he was engulfed under the hoard without him firing off a shot at the stranger.
Robin scrambled onto the small table of the room, as she saw the living carpet of creepers that swarmed her partner. She looked up and saw the man walking into the room, hand raised as the insects were coming from all around him but they all seemed to skirt around him.
" Miss Sena." The man said, smiling right at the young crafter. " This is my day, is it not?"
" Who are you?" She yelled at the man in fear, as she saw the insects were crawling up the legs of the table, bearing down on her.
" In a few moments, and with your death, it won't really matter whom I am." Said the man, his voice cold and unemotional. " Let's just say... I am your death."
Robin concentrated on the man, and she let loose her powers with a grunt to stop this apparent witch. To her horror, an unseen barrier around the intruder stopped her power cold, and her flames fizzled. The bug-man smiled, seemingly smug with the revelation.
" Foolish witchling..." The cold faced man said, his eyes were trained on the young teen. " You can't stop me from fulfilling your warrant of death."
The man in the overcoat lifted both of his arms, and thousands more insects began to flooded from every where, tripling the numbers in scant seconds. Robin tried her power again against the bug witch, and the exact thing happened, except the strange man was now laughing with a tone that was almost like ice as it rang in her ears.
Fear gripping her in it's cold embrace, as she found herself unable to defend against this man. Robin looked for her companion desperately, but could just barely see him in the throng of crawling things that covered him from head to foot, only a few feet from her. She felt helpless to help Amon... or herself.
Robin suddenly had a huge mass of insects on her, even up on the table. They were in her hair, over and under her dress, stinging and biting her all over. She tried to bat some of them off of her, but they just kept coming relentlessly, flooding over her. Panic was setting in, a emotion she had never fully felt before.
Under the mass of six legged horrors, the young teen lost her balance on the table, as she tried to sweep them off of her. She fell hard to the floor and was quickly covered by the little horrors. She screamed in terror, but the insects were quickly starting to pouring into her mouth and nose, choking off her air. She gagged and but it did no good, she spat the horrors out the best she could, and finally could breath for a moment.
Somehow, the girl struggled and finally got to her knees, as the little beasts continued to sting her everywhere on her body. A thousand pains at once was what came to the girl, and she felt herself feeling faint from it all. Her mind raced to try and see what she could do, but all she could hear in her head was the malicious laughter of the bug witch.
She stood up on her knees, and looked at the man, the bugs starting over her again as she tried to swat them of in futility.
" My little minions will kill you soon, child." He said, as she saw the girl struggling against the tilde wave of bugs. " I promise, both of your deaths will be swift."
In desperation, Robin looked down at the bugs that were all around her, and hit upon a small idea With a squint of her eyes, she lit a large swath of the living carpet on fire with a large flame, as she tried to ignore the stinging and biting all over her.
The bugs hopped and moved, as the searing heat of the flames began to consume some of the hoard, and made the other little beasts back off. The smell of the creepy creatures and the carper fibers burning was worse than rotting flesh was, but she continued to fight back for all she was worth.
Through the popping sounds of the insects in the fire, Robin suddenly heard something over the sounds of the flames. She realized that it was blood curdling screams that broke over the sounds.
The tawny haired beauty looked up and saw the intruder was holding his head, writhing in obvious pain. He quickly collapsed against the doorframe, his wails of pain ringing out as if someone was torturing him.
Robin mind quickly grasped just what was happening. She realized that the witches power of control over the insects had a side effect... he could also feel the bugs pain. She hurriedly tested her theory, and lit another patch of insects on fire near the man who was still wailing in pain.
The man screamed again, and collapsed flat on the ground. He shook, and kept on screaming out with a chilling tone as more of the insects were being consumed by the girl's power. Grinning, Robin set to work lighting other parts of the living carpet ablaze, making sure she did it well away from her fallen friend that was still covered by the mass of little creatures near her.
The intruder was wailing at the top of his lungs, his body convulsing and twitching each time Robin lit up another part. The man forced himself to look right at the girl, his face beginning to peel with the heat of the fires that were roaring all around him, his eyes were wild and animalistic.
" It can't be.." He growled through his wails, his body continuing to shake as he fought to his feet. " You little punk kid..."
Two gunshots went out and stopped the man's words. The man coughed and then collapsed backwards down to the ground. As soon as the man hit, the carpet of the remaining bugs began to scatter, quickly leaving as fast as they had appeared. The insects seemed to be disoriented, scared as they left by any means possible to them, just wanting to get out of there as fast as they could have.
Robin turned and saw Amon was on his feet and free of the bug hoard finally, covered in dead and burned insects with his gun smoking in his hand. He turned to the girl and nodded with out a word. Robin knew what she needed to do.
The intruder was still alive, and was beginning to rise despite the two shots he had taken from Amon's weapon. Around him, was another growing number of insects forming again. The man was regrouping for another try. With a frown of determination, Robin stared at the man, a shadow of a flame flickering in her bright emerald greens.
The bug witch screamed, as his entire body now burst into a large tower of fire. What ever barrier the man had at first to stop Robin's flames, was now gone, and he was hit by the full fury of Robin's power. The man screamed one more time, and then his form disappeared into the yellowish orange of the flames as they consumed him.
Coughing from the smoldering carpet and the stench of the burned bugs, Amon grabbed the girl, and pulled her out of the room, going around the smoldering ashes of what was left of the bug witch.
The man had already grabbed their two dufflebags as got them out of there, and pulled the disoriented young girl to the back stairs.
" We need to get out of here... and fast." He said, hearing the wails of fire trucks and the cries of the police from outside. " There is no time to waste."
" He's alive still?" Asked the girl, not believing that for a moment.
" No..he's delt with. We need to get to a new place before they decide on a new hunter through the cops." Was his answer. " The cops would ask too many questions anyways... and who knows if some of them might be payed off too to give these Factory investors our heads on a silver platter." He growled. " We can't trust no one, until we find a way to get out of Japan."
The girl gasped.
" We might have to leave Japan?" She asked?
" It's better than living with targets on our foreheads." The man said, with a low growl. " These people want revenge for our participation in the destruction of the Factory."
" Wont they target the STN-J too."
" We are the primary targets right now." He explained, as they ran down the stairs at the very back of the hotel. " They see us as more of a threat than the STN right now."
" And SOLOMON?"
" Some might be involved from there too... they would not like to know what Zaizen's research had brought up." He said, looking at the teen. " With you as the 'eve of witches', you are a threat to what SOLOMON is all about."
Robin's mind quickly grasped the man's words, they were a totally true. Amon had pointed out that the powerful people like the ones who sent the Bug-witch would always had a back up plan, stopping at nothing...and if SOLOMON had even a few sympathizers in with these people... Robin knew the consequences of that too.
With Robin now understanding it all, she just hurried so as not to be dragged off of her feet, as the man drug her down the back stairs. They were being hunted, unlike all of the witches she had also hunted down. The irony of that was not lost on the young teen.
Their jalopy of a car was siting where Amon had parked it the night before, just in front of a garbage bin in the back of the hotel. He rushed to get in, shouting over the car's roof for the young girl to get in as quick as she could. She did, throwing herself in the passenger side seat to the point of hurting her bum a little.
He stepped on the gas as he turned the car on, bringing the engine to life. He thanked whatever god was available for the good fortune, as the old beater of a car had thankfully started.
With the car roaring into life, the man wasted no time getting the hell out of there. As the girl closed the door behind herself, the car peeled out and was gone into the maze of streets that made up Tokyo. Like a metal ghost on the run, the little beat up car disappeared into the choke of traffic.
No one even sees the car carrying the two leave, as firemen race up to put out the blaze that was on the seventh floor.
