The Monster Within

The two young children laughed as they played their little game unaware of the danger lurking in the shadows of the alleyway close by. The boys' mother had warned them it wasn't safe to play after dark, with the city in the shape it was nowadays. The boys' being carefree did not heed their mother and were still playing as the sun was just setting and the criminals of the night began to waken from their daylight slumber.

The boys were named Sami, and Soui, after their late father and uncle. Both boys' continued to play near the alleyway pushing and shoving at each other in a sort of `macho' game.

Sami said, “It is getting kind of late Soui, mommy told us not to be out after dark. The filth of the city come out and snatch us away if we are on the streets after dark.”

Soui being older retorted, “Stop being a momma's boy Sami, we are going on; if anyone wanted to trouble us we would whop them.”

In the alleyway two yellow eyes peered at the boys as they continued to talk. The creature behind the two eyes began to lick its chops; it had just arrived in this human city several days ago and had not eaten anything since it had arrived. Right now, the two human boys in front of him looked delicious.

The creature jumped onto a garbage bin that had acted as cover so the two humans could not see him. His brown fur and muscles moved in one quick motion as he then leaped to the fire exit of an apartment building whose ladder was just above his head. A clank of claws hitting medal echoed through the alleyway and got the attention of the two boys, however, the creature had been able to pull himself up onto the landing and flattened his body to the medal landing concealing himself from the two boys.

The two boys entered the alleyway but could not see anything as the sun slowly sank past the building sealing them in shadow and darkness. The creature on the fire escape landing looked down at his prey with his yellow eyes and licked his lips again.

Sami said, “Soui I am scared, lets just go home.”

Soui replied, “Don't be a chicken! There is nothing in this alleyway except for us. Whatever it was it is gone. Besides, it was most likely a stray dog or chicken so stop being a cry-baby and lets go.”

Sami whimpered silently and turned around quickly as he heard a noise coming from the street. He wasn't as brave as his brother and just wanted to go home. The younger boy could see two cars go screaming by as steam began to rise up from the alley way blurring his vision of the street. After the two cars past by, the younger boy followed his older brother deeper into the now pitch black alleyway.

He then heard a noise from above and looked up as a furry object came crashing down onto him. The boy let out a scream and struggled with his attacker which resulted in sharp claws tearing through his shirt and piercing his skin resulting in a trickle of blood. His scream was silenced as a powerful jaw wrapped around his neck and crunched down on the exposed vulnerable area resulting in a blood filling the creature's mouth and splashing onto the nearby garbage unit.

Soui turned around quickly and saw his younger brother lying on the cement ground quietly. Soui immediately ran over to his little brother who when Soui arrived had wide eyes filled with fear. As he looked lower to inspect his little brother, Sami had had his jugular ripped out of his throat. Also, blood covered his throat, ripped up shirt which had the impression of claw marks.

Soui then turned around as tears began to form in his eyes. It was all his fault, if he had not pestered his brother to come into the alleyway with him, they would be back home drinking hot chocolate with their mother brooding over them. But now he was alone in an alleyway and at that very moment the boy's shoulders shook as a sob wracked his body.

Soui turned his head quickly to the garbage unit and his brain froze in fear as he looked with wide eyes at a brown-furred wolf/dog who had blood dribbling down from its sharp-white teeth, who curled its lips back in a cruel snarl at the young boy.

The frightened boy let out a scream and ducked as the creature leaped at him and grazed his right shoulder with its claws. Soui stumbled to his feet as the wolf, bounced off an apartment wall and turned to face its prey again. The boy took off down the alleyway screaming in fear trying to get back to the safety of the street when he felt a sharp pain in his left leg. Soui fell down crying out in pain as the wolf bite down on his thigh resulting in blood to flow from the wound. Realizing that its prey would not escape, the creature immediately began to bite at the most exposed pieces of flesh, resulting in blood from the boy to spill on the ground.

The wolf enjoyed the frightful and pained screams from the boy who continued to struggle against what would be his death. The wolf then chomped down onto the boys face resulting in blood and gore to go flying everywhere as the boys hands fell limply to the side. A huge pool of blood began to form around the wolf and the dead human boy as the creature began to snack on the boys' brain.

The young teenage girl opened her eyes and gasped, shaking in fear from the dream she had had the night before. In the dream, the young girl could remember being chased by what looked like a wolf, however, the girl knew that wolves were extinct, they had been extinct for at least 200 years. The wolf in her dream had brown fur with black markings and it was chasing her through the city's alleyways.

This was the second time in a week she had a dream like this and the dream resulted in the same result. Leara immediately sighed and realized that she would probably flunk her math exam today because of this dream and her father was going t be worried and such.

Leara's father had become over protective of his little girl ever since her mom died three years ago, and if she got bad grades, or was late, would begin to worry that she was either depressed or been kidnapped by the criminals in the city they lived in. Now being fifteen years old, Leara kind of enjoyed torturing her father into thinking something had happened to her, even though it hadn't.

Getting back to reality the girl grabbed the remote control of her desk and turned it on. What was on TV shocked Leara out of her wits.
