Finally, they reached their destination. Lily covered her mouth to hide a yawn, thinking that someone of Xavier's status would think it rude. A quick glance at the clock showed that it was the first hour of a new day.
"This is New York?" Lily asked as an attempt to break the spell of silence that had washed over them. He nodded. Both of them slipped out of the car after Xavier flashed his new slave a sweet welcoming smile. She swung the worn out duffle bag over her shoulder and spun on the heel of her foot. The violet eyes she wore grew and took in the beauty of the mansion. The look of it gave her the impression that a princess hid deep within the walls.... sort of.
Vines reached themselves around the bottom of the stairs. The bricks gave the appearance that they would soon give way at any given moment, but the landscape around it was breath taking.
Temptation called to the young slave as she drew her eyes across the area. Enormous oak trees bent their branches to her, calling her to climb them. A lake not far off drew her closer, showing its coolness, welcoming her to it. Even the flowers caught her eye by twirling in the wind that whispered her name.
“I love this place…it's so…so…calming…so peaceful. It's hard to believe mutants live here.” She whispered to herself in her mind, hoping Xavier hadn't heard her thoughts.
Charles looked at her while walking inside, “Come, Lily, I have to give you a quick tour before you rest.” Ever the obedient flower, Lily floated behind him, amazed at the antiques in the hallway.
“This is the room you'll be staying in. My room is in the next hallway, first door on your left. Downstairs…” The professor stopped with an amused grin dancing on his face; Lily was asleep on her new bed already. With a sympathy look, he tossed the blankets over the girl and kissed her forehead, whispering softly, “Sleep well, my flower.”
Around 3 A.M. the sleeping man woke to hear screams. Jolting from his bed, he ran into Lily's room and saw her turning and tossing, the covers choking her from her actions.
It was her 9thbirthday when it all happened. The storm covered her homeland with sadness as she gathered buckets of water from the river. The child had a curse for life; violet eyes, purple lips, and black hair with lavender highlights. Lugging the two buckets on her shoulders, Lily hummed a lullaby and skipped into her small house in Egypt.
“Mama? Step-papa?” Lily cried out in the darkness, walking further into the small hut. The wooden buckets dropped, the water mixing in with the blood as the girl stared at the discovery.
“What did you do?!” She screamed at a man with graying hair. Her step-father turned with a knife in his hands, smiling menacingly,
“Your mother…she is the cause of your ugliness. You…” Before he could finish, Lily ran over to her mom's dead body and hugged her, sobbing quietly. Raising the blood covered knife, her step father was just about to stab her when he was thrown to the muddy ground outside. Growling, the nine year old stood and walked outside, her eyes a dark red.
“…You killed her…You deserve death!” Lily yelled as she imagined all the things she wished to do to the man. It was as if everything she thought of was happening to the scum in front of her! Without warning his body went rigid and stopped moving.
After burying her mother in the rain, she sat in her hut and cried silently to sleep. When she awoke, a man with black hair and cold green eyes was in front of her. “You're mother's wishes were for me to take you. You are mine now…” He said with a snake like hiss. Unable to resist, Lily was dragged off with the man she knew to be Maxwell.
Lily awoke to feel her master shaking her; a thin sheet of sweat covered her pale skin. Staring at him with huge tearful eyes, she leaned against him and buried her face at the crook of his neck, shaking like a leaf in a hurricane. Charles hugged her, reading her mind secretly while stroking her hair.
“Are you okay now?” Minutes had slipped past and slowly she calmed down. Lily felt ashamed of the way she failed to control her emotions. Wiping the tears away, she nodded and looked away, “Yes Charles. I'm sorry I woke you…I hadn't dreamt that in a while…”
“It's alright, really. You have nothing to be ashamed of, Lily. Emotions are what make us human. Now, try to sleep as much as you can because I have a friend I wish to introduce you to.” Xavier whispered before getting up.
