“I’m not human, Scott.”
Those were the words uttered by Jean Grey, Scott Summers’s fiancée, his beloved. The bespectacled warrior looked at her in confusion as she sadly smiled at him.
“Jean, what do you mean?” He asked curiously, as if he expected an answer.
“I mean, I’m not really a mortal. Ever since the Phoenix Force came inside me, it showed me something that I couldn’t possibly believe.” Jean kept going. “I’m a reincarnation, Scott. I’m a goddess from a long-dead planet, and I’m her vessel.”
“Jean, do you know how ludicrous that sounds?” Scott stood up from his couch and looked at his teammate. “I mean, you’re some kind of goddess from an ancient alien civilization? That’s-“
Jean slammed her palms on the table and glared at Scott. “Damn it, Scott! I’m serious! You’re treating this as if this were some kind of joke! The Phoenix Force isn’t some world-destroying force, she’s hurt and confused! Her planet was destroyed and she doesn’t have anyone to spread her beliefs and words to!” Her hands were shaking in anger. “Especially when Ji’an Grei tried to save her planet from being wiped out, it still didn’t make a goddamn difference because she couldn’t save everyone from dying…” She slumped back onto the chair, exhausted.
“Ji’an Grei?” Scott asked.
“Yes,” Jean replied. “She was the first one to accept the Phoenix inside her. With that power, there was no limit to what could she do. She desperately wanted to help people, Scott. She brought peace to her world. She was a saint, a messiah.” Jean’s eyes were beginning to tear up. “But something happened. The planet she and her people lived on, Calzari, was starting to die. Even with her god-like powers, she could do nothing to stop its death. So, she made a pledge to her goddess that she would be born again and she would always be with her, no matter what. The goddess granted it and so it was done.” Jean was silently crying. “And I’m the current reincarnation of the priestess.”
Scott just stood there, pondering. Was it true? Was Jean telling the truth? If so, was he wrong about the Phoenix after all these years?
“Scott, I-“ Jean’s eyes went wide as she felt a presence. “She’s come for me, Scott.”
Scott snapped out of it as the psychic stood up and began to leave the room. “Jean, where are you going?”
“I’m going to her, Scott. She’s telling me she wants to make the world into a better place for us all. No more racism against our kind. No more hatred. No more evil.” With that, Jean closed the door behind her and teleported away to a place far away.
“JEAN!”
“My child. You have finally come.” Calzara, the goddess of the planet Calzari, smiled as she embraced her fiery arms around Jean.
“Yes, my goddess. I need your help. I want this all to end.” Jean smiled warmly.
“Then it will end, my child.”
With that, a bright light burst forth and engulfed the earth and spread out through the universe, destroying all life. People, buildings, wildlife, all were consumed by the bright light, vanishing without a trace. Darkness remained after the light faded.
Then an explosion broke open the darkness, billions of stars flew out of it and galaxies were made. New planets began to from and gave life upon their bodies. One planet in particular, began to rapidly evolve from its primeval state.
Somewhere, in the new Earth, a child was born, crying. A human father was holding a hand of his mutant wife, smiling happily. Peace had finally come, at last
