Marissa comes home. She has some explaining to do. Todd has a decision to make. I wrangled over this chapter a bit, didn't want it to be a let down after all that build up.

<b>Chapter Twenty Six: Homecoming </b>
She was coming home. Today. Pietro was whizzing around the house nervously giving orders no one needed. Making everyone else nervous. Especially, poor Angie. The poor thing was a bundle of nerves.
So was he.
Marissa was coming home.
What did that mean?
He'd almost gotten used to the three-way thing with Wanda and Lance. Would that end? Cause it was nice. Really nice. Wanda said she loved him…and Lance had even mumbled something like that one night. But, maybe he wasn't really awake when he said it.
So much had happened, here and there. Wherever there was. Would it be the same? He'd changed in the six months she'd been gone. He knew that. He must weigh at least twenty pounds more, all of it muscle. And he thought he'd grown an inch or two. People didn't laugh at him so much anymore either.
Would she be disappointed? She'd turned down that Peter guy. That guy looked like every girl's wet dream. Tall, dark, good-looking, big muscles - the guy even had a cool accent. Then there was that Gambit dude…Speaking of accents. Shit.
Would Magneto really leave them alone? There had to be a catch somewhere.
Wanda was floating around the house with a smug smile on her face, telling Pietro to slow down. Telling Angie to ignore him and not to worry, because Daddy was just coming for a short visit. Telling Lance to relax, there wasn't going to be any trouble. Telling Fred, sure, why not make some brownies? And telling him aren't you excited-- our girl's finally coming home?
Six months was a long time. Sometimes it seemed like forever.
Finally, there were tires on the gravel outside and the thumping of car doors. They were all waiting anxiously in the living room. When the bell rang, at first no one moved to answer the door. Then Pietro gave himself a little jerk and whizzed to the door to open it a little too quickly, banging it against the wall. Everyone flinched at the sudden noise. Even Wanda.
“Good evening, son.” Magneto sailed on past Pietro, followed by Gambit, carrying a couple of suitcases. He carried them up the stairs without a word. Todd waited nervously as the big guy, Peter, came in carrying a heavy crate. He brushed past Todd on his way to the basement.
“Hello, Father…What's all this?”
“Marissa will explain later.”
And then she was there. She stood in the doorway for a moment. She looked different. Older. Her hair had grown long enough to braid along the back of her head. She was dressed in black jeans, a crisp white blouse and a black leather jacket. And the little silver toad hung around her neck.
She smiled at Pietro and hugged him…Which must have startled Pietro, since he looked like he'd been shot. Then she walked inside so that Pyro and Sabertooth could file in behind her. Pyro circled around to set a small case on the coffee table and Sabertooth closed the door and leaned against it.
Now that she was here…He couldn't seem to move. Couldn't seem to speak. He watched her move through the room, giving each of his housemates a hug and a smile. Even the way she moved had changed, though he couldn't put it into words.
Wanda clung to her and gave her a kiss on each cheek. Lance blushed and mumbled something no one could hear. Fred patted her awkwardly on the shoulder. And Angie looked absolutely terrified as Marissa pulled her from behind Fred's large frame for a one-sided embrace.
By now Gambit and Peter had returned and stood next to Magneto who was watching all this with amusement.
Then she was there, in front of him, her dark eyes studying his face solemnly.
“Riss…”
She reached for him, taking his face in her hands and kissing him…Kissing him like they were alone. Just the two of them. Kissing him like she'd really missed him. Kissing him like she still wanted him. Kissing him like she wanted all of THEM to know it didn't matter what happened THERE because she was still his girl.
He wrapped his arms around her and kissed her back…Jesus it was good to feel her there. Instead of just listening to her voice. And it was fucking good to be kissing her in front of THEM so they could see she was still HIS girl and they could all go fuck themselves.
Someone coughed and someone cleared his throat. Someone else giggled. He heard Wanda's voice and her father's but he wasn't really listening. And finally, Riss pulled back a little.
“I'm home.”
“Yeah.”
She turned around to face Magneto, but she held his hand so tight it almost hurt. He didn't care. She was here.
Then Magneto was calling her to follow him down to the basement with Pietro. Wanda clung to her father and went with them downstairs. Marissa let go of his hand and left him behind, with all of THEM staring at him.
“What're you looking at, yo?” He scowled at them, wishing he dared to pop at least one of them. Bet he could take Pyro…then again the nut might enjoy it.
Fred and Angie ducked into the kitchen to get some of the food Fred had been cooking all afternoon. Because, apparently you just had to have refreshments when you were expecting company - no matter who they were. Lance looked uncomfortable as he hovered nearby. Probably afraid he was gonna start a fight. Maybe he would if Sabertooth wasn't grinning at him like that.
Fucking creepy.
The Russian dude was staring him down, jaw muscles popping and hands clenching like he wanted a fight too.
“Piotr…You come wit' me. We get de computer set up before dey done.” Gambit slapped the big guy on the shoulder, making him scowl. But the dude followed Gambit anyway.
Then Angie and Fred were back with stuff and Sabertooth chilled out enough to sit down. Pyro sprawled on the couch and started playing with his lighter.
Shit…What were they doing down there?
So he headed into the basement. When he poked his head into the office, Peter glared at him and Gambit dropped what he was doing long enough to shoo him out.
“You already won dis fight, mon ami. Don' rub it in, homme…Or maybe Piotr rub you in. Hmm?” He spoke quietly, blocking the door with his body.
“Just looking for Riss…And I live here, yo.”
“Dey in dere…” He waved a hand at the locked room. “You gon' have to wait.”
“How long?”
The man shrugged and then returned to what he was doing. So Todd sat down on a weight bench where he could watch for her to come out. Probably shouldn't have left the others upstairs with the nut jobs...But, he'd waited too long for Riss already.
Finally, he saw her coming out of that locked room, smiling with her arm around Wanda. Then Magneto and Pietro followed, Magneto's hand resting companionably on his son's shoulder.
“Thank you, Eric…I won't disappoint you.” She let go of Wanda and put her arms around Magneto's neck and gave him a kiss on the cheek. What?!?
Not only did the guy let her do it, he tucked his had under her chin and gave her a smile.
“I look forward to seeing you succeed. Don't hesitate to call me if you have any problems. And remember. Six months.”
“I gotcha. Six months…and regular progress reports.”
He dropped his hand from her chin and nodded in Todd's direction, before returning upstairs. Todd watched him leave before rising to join the trio.
“Marissa Lensherr? What does that mean? Are you supposed to be my sister now or something?” Pietro waited just long enough for his father to be out of earshot before speaking.
Wanda giggled and grabbed Todd's arm as soon as he was within reach.
“Oh God…This is so perfect!” Wanda looked like she'd just gotten the best Christmas present ever, or something.
Marissa rolled her eyes at them and turned to lock the room. It had a high tech security system that required both a palm print and a voice code. She put her palm on the panel and spoke into the microphone.
“I am Legacy. Lock door.” The thing beeped at her and they could hear the bolts sliding into place.
“If I'm your sister, you can expect a kick in the `nads next time you try to bitch slap me.” She turned back around.
“What's he talking about?” Todd felt like he was walking into the middle of something. Nothing unusual. People were always leaving him out of things.
“A little name change…no big deal. Wynne wasn't a real name any way. It was the street the cops found me on when I was little.” She shrugged. “Part of the agreement is I take the family name.”
“What does that make you and Wanda then?” Todd scratched his head. Marissa and Wanda looked at each other for a moment then grinned at him.
“I guess that makes us a couple of dirty girls, huh Wanda?”
“Very dirty.” Wanda giggled again.
“Jesus…That's all I need…two of them.” Pietro snorted in disgust.
“Anyway…The `official' story is that I'm Eric Lensherr's long lost grand niece a couple of times removed. In case anyone asks.” She wrinkled her nose. “It's as good a story as any I guess.” Then she grabbed Todd's hand again, gripping it tight.
“Maybe you guys should head back upstairs and keep an eye on things.” She made a shooing motion at the twins. “You've already heard most of the details.”
Pietro took the hint and pulled Wanda after him as he went upstairs.
“We gotta talk.” Marissa tugged him back toward the weight bench. They sat down on it, sitting close together.
“What's going on, yo? I feel like everybody else knows more than I do. And you're supposed to be my girl.”
“All right…This is the deal. Magneto is giving me my own company…That room in there is full of high tech computer stuff. Way expensive. I'm going to start the first matchmaking service specifically for mutants and mutant-friendly singles. Ever. It's going to be world wide and we'll be going live in two days. In a month, the commercials will start airing on TV.” Her voice rose with excitement and she gestured expansively.
“O.K…A…That's nuts…and B…Why the hell would Magneto pay for something like that?”
“A…It's not nuts…It's my idea and I've almost sold him on it. It's the first step to building my legacy…Making sure that there's enough mutants in the next generation and the next that they aren't going to get wiped out or just fade away.”
He had no idea what she was talking about…But, he nodded anyway, since she seemed to expect it.
“So what's B?”
“That's what we need to talk about. He's giving me a chance to show him a better way than…Say…Blowing each other up and hoping mutants wind up on the winning side…Or doing like the X-Geeks and just sitting by and doing damage control. Speed up evolution a generation or two, maybe.”
He blinked at that. My girl thinks big, huh?
“I'm all for not blowing up I guess. Still doesn't make sense why he'd spend so much money on it.”
“Well…I…I've promised to do something for him...It's not just my taking the family name…I'm supposed to…Have a baby to carry the name on.”
“What?” Todd's mind came to a screeching halt…”Who's baby? Are you pregnant? What the fuck?”
“Slow down…I'm not pregnant. Not yet.” She fell quiet as Gambit and Peter came out of the office. She held a hand up to silence him before he could say anything else.
“Am I all set up?” She called after them as they started to leave. They turned at the sound of her voice.
“Oui. Every'ting plugged in an' working. You call Remy if you got any problem. De boss send him quick.”
“I'll look everything over later. I'm sure it's fine.”
“We leave you two `lone, den. Come, Piotr.” The larger man hesitated before following Gambit up the stairs.
“I feel like such a shit, I totally screwed that guy over.” Marissa sighed.
“Who's baby Riss?” Todd hissed at her. He could think of a few possibilities and he didn't like any of them.
“Well, yours…at least that's what I'm hoping. If you're O.K. with that. You see…I'm carrying the x-factor…Magneto checked…and if I get pregnant by somebody who's a mutant there's a really good chance the baby will be one too.”
“Why would anyone want their kid to be a mutant? Todd's jaw dropped…Especially one like him. Like Pietro or Lance or one of the XGeeks maybe. But not yellow eyes and freaky skin and shit like that.
“Why wouldn't I want my kid to be a mutant? I would think any parent would want their kid to be something…I don't know…more…than they are. And dammit. I love you.”
She was clutching both of his hands tightly now and her face was getting all red and blotchy. Was she gonna cry?
“The only thing that's really keeping Magneto from buying into my idea completely is that he can't quite bring himself to trust a normal. If I have a mutant kid, then I have a stake in all this. One he can't argue away.”
“Do you even want a kid, Riss? You ain't said nothing about that, yo.”
“At first I was totally freaked out. I never even thought about stuff like that before I met you. Never thought I'd live long enough to have one, really. But, I've been thinking about it a lot…And I do want one. And if I'm going to do that…I want it to be with you.”
“I don't know, Riss. I'm not sure I want one…What are you going to do if I say no?”
His stomach twisted as he waited for her response. She looked away from him and sniffed a little. Then she looked back at him.
“I…uh…I'm gonna ask Lance. I think he'd make a great dad.”
“Not one of them guys?” He jerked his head in the direction that Gambit and Peter had left.
“If you and Lance both turn me down…Then…Yeah.” She looked down at their hands.
“Peter?”
“No. Remy. He won't try to control me the way Peter would.” She shrugged and looked back up at him. “I've got six months to start turning a profit and get pregnant. If I don't Magneto will take me back and I'll have to start all over again.”
“That's pretty cold. Plan A, B, and C. At least I'm A.” He pulled his hands back “Shit, Riss.”
“There's always a plan B with me, Todd. Maybe it is cold. I'm sorry.”
“I'll think about it.”
“Think fast…I can't wait too long.”
She left him there and shut herself in the office. Her office. He went upstairs to his room to think, grateful that Magneto and his crew had gone. It was a lot to think about. Didn't help that Gambit had left her suitcases in the middle of the room. He was tempted to shove them out in the hall. He flopped down on the bed to stare at the ceiling.
This sucked, didn't it?
He'd never really thought about kids. Never expected to have the opportunity, actually. Who would want a kid that looked like him? His parents hadn't, not really. That's how he wound up here in the first place. Maybe it would look like her? That wouldn't be so bad.
Could he handle watching her have somebody else's kid? Even if it was Lance's? Would Lance and Wanda go for that? If Wanda said no, then Lance wouldn't, he was sure.
That would suck.
Made sense now…What Magneto was doing, keeping her there for so long. Trying to get her to pick one of his guys. Hard to believe she hadn't.
Sucked for that Peter guy.
He laughed at that. Yeah. She screwed him over. No wonder the guy looked like he wanted to pound him into the ground. Couldn't really be mad at him anymore. Hell, the guy had been decent enough to tell him the truth. Nobody else had.
Christ! What if she did leave?
That would really, really suck.
Shit. Shit. Shit!
There must have been a better way to handle that. Todd looked completely freaked out. Maybe she should have just shut her mouth and took him to bed. Pretend it was an accident. But, she'd already said something to Lance a long time ago. She'd have gotten caught. And it would have been totally wrong to do that to Todd.
Shit.
She logged into the computer and ran through everything. The site looked great. Really slick and professional. Everything seemed to be working. Magneto only hired the best.
She ran a couple of searches on the big search engines and it popped up right away. She ran the diagnostic programs to check the servers. Looked O.K. Good.
Pick up the phone…dial tone…good.
Print out a test page on the printer…Oops, Remy forgot to put paper in it. No problem, it's right here. Works just fine.
Check her new email account. Empty except for the usual welcome message.
Rearrange the desk a little.
Do it again. That's a little better.
You're procrastinating.
Shit.
Go in the kitchen and grab a sandwich. Nod at Fred and ignore Angie. Big glass of milk. Avoid the questions in Lance's eyes. Wave at Wanda and Pietro in the living room. No I don't want to watch anything. Grab the lap top off the coffee table and take it upstairs.
Stop at the door. Should she knock first? Was it still her room?
Open the door. It's dark in here. Just a little moonlight coming in the windows. He's lying on the bed in the dark, just staring at the ceiling. He doesn't say anything. He doesn't even look.
Shit.
Close the door. Walk across the room. Don't trip over the suitcases. Put the laptop down on the dresser.
Take off the jacket and drape it over the suitcases. Kick her shoes off and leave them there. Unbutton the blouse and toss it over the jacket. Slide the jeans off, add them to the pile.
Reach behind to unhook the bra…But his fingers get there first and he takes over. They brush across her shoulders as he slides the straps down. She lets him pull it away and sees it fall next to the suitcase. Feel his fingers trace the thin silver chain and lift the little Toad.
See. I'm still your girl.
His lips against the back of her neck, his arms around her waist. The soft fabric of his t-shirt against her naked back. His warm breath on her ear. His hand sliding down across her belly, between her thighs, pushing them apart. A warm palm against the fabric of her panties. Pressure there, pushing her back against him and upwards.
The other hand gliding upwards caressing and cupping her breast. His fingers kneading and pulling. She sighs and leans back against him. His lips moving against her skin, traveling up her throat, trailing across her jaw to find her mouth. A long, slow kiss. She moans into his mouth.
Now he pulls away and she hears the rustle of fabric. The quick sound of a zipper. She turns to look at him and his eyes are dark in the dim light. The moonlight picks out the pale planes of his body. She reaches for him and touches him. He's different than she remembers. He's harder, leaner, stronger. She strokes his chest and his arms, feeling their strength.
He kisses her again and that's the same…He moans this time and pulls her to the bed. He pulls her down onto it then they are touching, kissing, remembering each other. Relearning each other. Six months seemed like nothing and forever, somehow both at once.
He reaches to slide his boxers off, but her hands are already there, tugging them down. He helps her take them off and then gasps as she touches him, stroking his cock gently, rubbing a thumb across the head. Squeezing it a little and listening to him groan.
He pushes her back against the bed and reaches to slide her panties off slowly. She wriggles a little under his touch and he smiles in the darkness. He kisses her again and presses himself close, letting her feel how much he wants her.
She opens her mouth under his and her body moves under him. He reaches between them and finds her wet and ready. She makes small noises of encouragement as he runs his fingers across the wet folds there and across her clit. She opens her legs in invitation.
He shifts a little and begins to slide inside. It's been so long. She groans and pulls him closer and he waits a moment before he begins to thrust. Long slow strokes. She moans and moves with him. He groans into her mouth.
She gets louder as her body starts to tense beneath him. He makes a wordless sound of encouragement and she comes with a sobbing cry. She clings to him afterwards and he begins to move faster. He grunts as he feels the tension build. She gasps in time with his strokes and moans when he pushes deeper. Her hands run up and down his back and squeeze his ass, pulling him deeper still.
She arches beneath him again and he catches her cry with his mouth. A few more strokes and he follows her, gasping and shaking with the force of his release. She holds him tightly, reluctant to let him go. They stay joined together for as long as they can, then he lies beside her and strokes her face.
No words tonight. Too much talking spoils things. Her words might be cold, but she was warm and sweet and so right here in his arms.
He wonders if they made a baby tonight. If not, there'd be other nights.
My girl.
It was good to have her home.
