Chapter Seven: Warm Chill:
-July 11th, 2027-
Anna leaned against Tsuzuki on the couch in the living room. She
looked up at him.
“That was a good wedding,” Anna said.
“Yeah,” Tsuzuki said. They didn't feel like turning on the TV.
“So what are you doing today?” Anna asked.
“Nothing much,” he said. “You?” She shook her head.
“Not much either,” Anna said.
“Hm,” Tsuzuki said. He debated on whether or not tell his wife
about Airi's sacrifice. But resolved to let Airi say it
herself.
“Have we picked a school for Kirika-chan yet?” Anna asked.
“Oh,” Tsuzuki said. “We still have to do that.” Anna frowned.
“Asato-kun!” she said.
“I know, I know,” the shinigami said. “I just… I'm not ready to let
her go yet.
“No one is. But we have to, you know? That's how it is.”
“I know. But still…”
“I know how you feel.”
“She loves Nagasaki, you know?”
“Remember what we said.”
“Yes, yes. I get it.”
“Don't push her to think of Nagasaki.”
“Okay, okay.” Another thought crossed his mind. “She'll be in high
school in spring.”
“I know.” She felt him shiver.
“What's the matter?”
“I can't picture her in high school.”
“It's happening.”
“Soon she'll be in college though. Then she'll move out.”
“Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! Slow down there! Let her get into high school
first. You're moving too fast with her. I'm feeling old thinking
about it.”
Tsuzuki pulled her closer to him. His wife looked up.
“You know,” Anna said. “Pretty soon, Kirika-chan is going to leave
home soon.”
“You're right. It will be just the two of us.”
“Three.”
“Oh yeah. Airi too.” She took a moment to think. “That's going to
be hard.”
“What do you mean?”
“We'll have to learn as three instead of five.”
“Five?”
“You, me, Kirika-chan, Airi, and Mimzie.”
Tsuzuki frowned and wrinkled his nose. “Does she have to
count?”
“She's part of Kirika-chan's soul, remember?”
“Yes, I know.”
“We'd have to live as three again.”
“We can do it. We will manage. That's how we've always done
it.”
Anna gave him a little smile.
“I guess you're right.”
Tsuzuki kissed her on the hand. Anna rested her head against his
chest.
