DemonGirl-Setsuna: Hi there! Setsuna here!

I just recently gotten the series on DVD and have already watched the whole thing in English and I am now watching it again in Japanese!

And this will be the first fanfic I'm writing for this series, so please do not kill me…
I'd hate to have to haunt you…

Oh and, please don't mind if I randomly alternate between using Shinigami and Guardian of Death to describe Tsuzuki, Hisoka, ect.
It's just a habit of mine to do that…

Anyway…

Here is Chapter 1!

Please Enjoy!

Disclaimer: I don't own Descendants of Darkness/Yami no Matsuei or anything belonging to Yoko Matsushita.

“Tsuzuki…?”, a young man with light golden brown hair and green eyes questions, as he poked his head into the infirmary of the medical-wing of the Judgment Bureau's building and spots his partner sitting in the hospital-bed with a ton on cakes and pastries on a tray in front of him as he shoves a fork full of cake into his mouth, “Eating sweets again, I see…”

“Oh, Hisoka…!”, Tsuzuki explains around the cake in his mouth, “It's nice of you to visit me…”, he cheerfully adds, after swallowing.

“You are my partner, right…?”, Hisoka says, mono-toned, as he sits on the bed across from his partner.

“You haven't changed…”, Tsuzuki sighs, lowering his violet eyes to stare blankly at his `snacks' as his brown hair covers his eyes from view.

“Well, you seem to be doing fine in your recovery. I'd better be going…”, the teen states, standing up and heads towards the door.

“Go where? You only just got here!”, he protests.

“Sorry, but the Boss wants to see me. I only had a little time to visit…”, Hisoka replies, without turning around to face him.

“Do you know about what?”

“He said something about meeting my `temporary' partner until you've completely recovered…”, he answers, vanishing through the door.

“Temporary partner…?”, Tsuzuki mutters.

-The Debriefing Room-

“You wished to see me, sir…?”, Hisoka asks, as he came through the door.

“Ah yes Hisoka, come in!”, Chief Konoe states, from behind the table as he stood beside a 29 year old male with brown hair and blue eyes behind a pair of glasses named Tatsumi.

Hisoka nods as he closes the door behind and stands on the other side of the table across from his Boss and co-worker.

“How is Tsuzuki doing?”, Tatsumi questions, honestly concerned of the well-being of his former partner.

“He's doing well, he has gotten his appetite back…”, he simply replies.

“That's Tsuzuki for you!”, the former partner smiles.

“Enough about Tsuzuki, who is my temporary partner and what is our objective…?”

“Straight to the point, you haven't changed much since you've joined…”, Konoe comments, “I'll reveal the details for the mission after I've introduced the newest member to the Summons Department. Come on in”, he calls to the person on the other side of the door who had knocked.

The door opens and in walks a young man with waist length black hair tied back in a low ponytail and reddish-brown eyes that when they caught the light seemed to gleam like garnets, wearing a pair of black slacks, a red dress-shirt, and carrying a dark grey trench-coat over his arm. He stood two-inches taller than the 5'6” tall Hisoka, with the black leather-sneakers he was wearing barely adding to his height.

“You requested to see me?”, the man asks, as he closes the door behind him, stopping a short distance from where Hisoka stood.

“Mr. Inukai before I brief you, I'd like to introduce you to your partner and mentor for the time being, until we find you a suitable partner”, Konoe answers, pointing towards Hisoka.

“I'm Kira Inukai, pleased to meet you…”, he says, offering his hand to the teen, “Though I'm surprised that my mentor is a kid…”

“Please do not call me kid…”, Hisoka coldly states, glaring at his temporary companion.

“Forgive me, I didn't you realize you were touchy about your age, Hisoka…”, Kira apologizes.

“Wait, how do you know my name, when I haven't even told you it yet?”

“It seems I've forgotten to inform you of this, but Inukai also has the ability of empathy like you”, Konoe explains.

Hisoka narrows his eyes as he glares at the young man in front of him trying to pick up a small trace of emotion or thought from him, but was feeling nothing from him.

“Mr. Kurosaki, I suggest you stop trying to read me. You're not going to get anything, I've built up mental-barriers to keep other empaths out of my mind…”, Kira advises, knowing what he was attempting to do, “So Chief Konoe, what is the mission?”

“This order had come from the Hall of Candles, there seems to be a lot of souls coming in before they were scheduled to, possible caused by the string of brutal murders over in Izumo; where the victims have been completely drained of their life-energy leaving their bodies mummified, even the guardians in Chugoku have vanished…”

“Murders…? Are you sure it isn't Muraki's doing?”, Hisoka questions.

“It isn't Muraki's handy-work, even though he is still alive. It will take him a while to recover from his injures Tsuzuki gave him and any damage he might have received from Touda's flames”, Tatsumi replies, adjusting his glasses.

“Which is why I need you and Inukai to investigate the murders and the disappearances of the Chugoku guardians, before there are any more casualties, understood?”

“Yes sir!”, Kira salutes.

“Can we go now…?”, Hisoka groans at his `partner's' actions.

“Of course, but first…”, Konoe says, handing Hisoka a few hundred yen-bills, “Make sure to get me some…”

“…Souvenirs, right?”, Kira buts in, placing a small bag labeled `Izumo Gift Shop' on the side onto the table, “I heard somewhere that you love souvenirs”, he adds, with a smile, “I'll take this as compensation…”, taking the bills from Hisoka's hand, “Meet you at the Japanese Railway Station for the Sunrise Izumo train, Hisoka…!”, he waves as he walks out the door.

`Where is he? He's late!', Hisoka thinks, impatiently staring at his watch.

“I'm not late, you're just early”, Kira's voice says from the bench beside him, causing the teen to turn his head and see the rookie guardian sitting there wearing a red loose-fitting T-shirt and black jeans with his coat draped over the back of the bench and his eyes closed, as if trying to gather energy from the sunlight.

“Quit doing that!”

“Doing what?”, Kira asks, feigning innocence as he peeks open one of his eyes to look at his superior.

“Reading my mind without my permission…”, he quietly hisses, growing annoyed.

“Oh, so that is what's bothering you…”, the older man chuckles, as he raises to his feet, “The fact that I have control over my ability, when you don't have any…”, he adds, closing the space between them, making Hisoka start to grow nervous, “It isn't my fault that my family was accepting of my ability, unlike yours…”, he whispers into Hisoka's ear.

“Wha…?”, Hisoka gasps.

“I saw your childhood when I touched your hand as I grabbed the yen from you yesterday…”, Kira explains, “It's one of my abilities that I haven't fully mastered yet…”, he continued, as he lightly traces the outline of Hisoka's face with his gloved-fingers, “I could always teach you how to control your empathy… If you want me to…”

Hisoka's cheeks turn bright red from his partner's actions.

“Oh, you're so cute when you blush, Hisoka-kun…”, he coos.

(The train to Izumo will be arriving shortly on track 5. I repeat, The train to Izumo will be arriving shortly on track 5), the PA-system announces.

“That's our train! I'll go get us some bento-boxes from the station shop!”, Kira exclaims, walking away from Hisoka to get their dinners and leaving the flustered teen where he stood.

`Why…? Why couldn't I move…?', Hisoka asks himself, `It felt like my body wanted him near me…', he thinks to himself, as he looks down at his hands and watches them tremble, `Just who is he?', he wonders, as Kira returns carting four bento-boxes.

“What's wrong, Hisoka?”

“Nothing…”

“I must apologize for yesterday, it was rude of me to read you like that after we just met…”

“Don't worry about it, I was trying to read you, but you blocked my attempts when I tried…”, Hisoka confesses.

“We started off on the wrong foot, let's just start over…”, Kira says, “I'm Kira Inukai…”, he offers his hand.

“”Hisoka Kurosaki, pleased to meet you…”, he greets, shaking his gloved hand.

“Sorry for invading your personal space, I tend to get a little unpredictable when I get excited about being better than someone…”, Kira admits, blushing lightly, “Oh, the train is here!”, he announces, as the train pulls up to the station, “I'll go talk to the conductor…”, he states, running up to the uniformed man as he stepped off the train.

Hisoka watches as Kira spoke to the conductor, turned slightly to point to Hisoka and then pulls a card out of his wallet to show the conductor, and the conductor nods before Kira walked back towards his partner.

“So, what was that about?”, Hisoka asks.

“You're covered under my Rail-Pass, so the seats are free!” ,he replies with a smile, “So let's board before we have to wait to catch the next one tomorrow”, he advises, as he picks up the bento-boxes and his suitcase from where he had left them, “Oh and I'll try my best to respect your privacy, by not reading your mind…”, he states, as he walks past with his parcels.

“Thanks for the consideration…”, he mutters, picking up his bag from where it sat by his feet.

-On the Train-

“So how old are you Hisoka?”, Kira asks, as he pulls the lid to his bento-box off.

“16 years old, I would have been 17 this year…”, he replies, distantly staring out the window watching the scenery go by.

“Most people would have guessed car accident or illness, but my guess would be murder, right?”, Kira says, “And Muraki is the one who did it”.

“Wha…? How could you tell?”, he gasps, immediately turning to look at Kira.

“It was yesterday, when you were questioning about the murders being caused by him… I could feel an anger coming off of you, one that spoke of wanting revenge…”

“Okay…”, Hisoka says, “I have a question for you…”

“Fire away”.

“Why are we taking a train? We could get there faster in spirit-form…”, he quietly asks, so the other passengers wouldn't hear.

“Oh! I was expecting you to ask how old I was when I died…”, Kira gasps, “The reason we're taking the train is, any pictures taken during the ride to Izumo count as souvenirs”, he honestly smiles, removing a camera from his coat-pocket.

“For Chief Konoe's obsession…?”

“Yeah, those little trinkets I gave him aren't going to keep him satisfied for long!”, he replies, as he snaps a photo of a mountain as they rode past it.

“Do you think I could a copy of the pictures?”, Hisoka requests, as he looks out the window at the mountain, “Mt. Fuji at sunset is stunning…”

“Sure, you can have as many copies as you'll like!”
