Yami No Matsuei Fan Fiction ❯ Screaming Soul ❯ Starting Over ( Chapter 1 )
Disclaimer: I do not own Yami no Matsuei/Descendants of Darkness. None of the characters mentioned here are mine, unless otherwise noted. Though I do wish I were as smart as Yoko Matsushita, sadly I am not.
Note: Basically I was inspired to take up writing again. I had a previous account, but that was when I was a bit younger, so starting later is probably a wise decision on my part, and in my opinion. Though this is my first Anime piece of writing and my first YnM piece too. (I'm sure they could grasp that with the first comment?) Unlike those 1-chapter lemons, which in some cases can be meaningful, or just a long explanation of how two males or females or a male and a female “get downâ€, I intend to try to give this piece some meaning. So please bear with me. Obviously not for the younger readers, though that doesn't stop most of them anyway. But perhaps the length will bore them as it does most of the juvenile assortment. It includes, yaoi, alcohol abuse, rape, and foul language. All of the things your Sunday School teacher warned you about. Just a warning.
The first chapter is set in Tsuzuki’s POV. My work is based of both the Anime and the Manga. Just thought I might mention that. Now without further a do, I present to you: Screaming Soul.
“Did you really think you can escape me, Mr. Tsuzuki? Heh, there is no place to run. You are mine, and you always will be such. There is no denying that fact, nor is there any reason for you to deny your demonic nature. Demons blood courses through your veins. Accept it, accept me. Now come…â€
Cool rivulets of sweat, danced across my face. A haunting chill surged throughout my body. My very being: shaken. It had been like this for a while now. Ever since Kyoto, sleep had been on of the many things I was deprived as of late. It was becoming harder and harder now to just lay down without the thought of him entering my mind. I mean we hadn't heard from him, no out of the ordinary crimes committed against the living. No excessive plan to draw me out had been issued; there was practically no sign of him.
Ironically, the intricate curse placed upon Hisoka still remained, which meant he could appear at any moment. These along with other issues were not doing me any favors.
Though Muraki is seemingly out of the picture, things have not returned to normal. Though Hisoka had come to my aid in Kyoto, now he seemed, indifferent toward me. Honestly in the beginning our ‘relationship’-would you even call it that?- was not a match made in heaven. In time we learned to depend on one another, care for one another, but now, he seemed more closed than ever. “Could it have been something I said? Bah! Now I'm talking to myself, this is no good. If only I had more time to sleep!†I rubbed my temples in an effortless to attempt to cease the oncoming headache. Being dead had its perks. “I better get ready, or else Tatsumi will let me have it in the worst way. He can be such a scrooge sometimes! I wonder how he was able to stand himself when he was alive? Ugh.â€
Enma-Cho
“Tsuzuki! You're late! You can't even make it to work on time! Sometimes I wonder why we keep you around here. You could at least make an effort to get here early, just once! That’s all I ask!†I was greeted by the wonderful bellow of my long time boss-Chief Konoe. He'd been here longer than me and I’d been working here for 70 yrs. I've been dead longer than I’d been alive. I could tell that it wasn't a happy atmosphere, aside from my apparent lateness. It was just something I couldn't help. Though the watch on my wrist was there, seldom did I take note of the time that it displayed. I figured I’d only caught a bit of scolding from him, so I decided to defend my case.
“Boss! It’s not as though I was intentionally late! I really do try to get here! It’s just I had something really important that needed…my…er…undivide d attention! If I wasn't there, only Enma-Diaoh himself knows what could have happened! I practically saved lives!†Phew! That sounded plausible, save for the fact that I forgot one thing….
His brow furrowed angrily, he sighed closing his eyes, placing his aged face in the crook of his hand. “So you mean to tell me you saved lives, from possible death?†I nodded approvingly, trying to bring a stern look to my face. That’s when it came. “YOU IDIOT!†Were in purgatory! Everybody here is already dead! If you had half a brain you'd know that! I don't want to hear any of your half assed excuses Tsuzuki! One more time and you're out of here! Now I don't want any sound from you! Do you understand?â€
Completely.
It was more than embarrassing. I just made an even bigger fool of myself, not to mention getting caught in the dumbest lie I could possibly muster. It seemed as though fate itself was against me. There was just nothing I did that went un-reprimanded. I dropped myself into my chair, holding my head in shame. Tatsumi simply smiled sympathetically at me. I could see that he too, was disappointed. Hisoka sat on the far end of the table, not once bringing his eyes to meet my own. I felt so small and insignificant. How dumb am I?
Tatsumi cleared his throat, preparing to begin the conference. “It seems as though we have another case on our hands. Each of the victims had body parts severed. In each case, a different body part hacked off. Both males and females were targeted. Also, strange markings were found on each of the victims’ throat. They are not puncture wounds, but it was suggested that each victim was strangled before the mutilation. Though this has not been confirmed. There have been a count of 12 incidents in total. It is our job to solve this case quickly and efficiently. Tsuzuki, you and Kurosaki are in charge of this case. You are scheduled to leave for Nagasaki first thing tomorrow morning. As always stated, please try not to spend money wastefully.†Tatsumi glanced in my direction quickly. SO I had a slight eating disorder. It’s not as though I'm going to get fat or anything. It was something I loved to do. When I ate, I was happy.
“Tsuzuki, I don't want you screwing this one up. You've caused us enough trouble as it is! So just find the culprit and be done with it! Do I make myself clear?†The Chief growled at me, making sure what he said sunk into my apparently thick skull. Hisoka made his way out of the room, never uttering a word to me. Knowing me I probably said something to piss him off. Perhaps I could make it up to him when I had the chance. That would be my plan.
Nagasaki
It seemed as though it had been forever since I was last here. The memories that remained were not pleasant to say the least. It seemed as though, wherever Muraki went, he had an incalculable knack to cause pain wherever he set foot. Weren't doctors supposed to help people in their time of need? Dr. Kazutaka Muraki, on the other hand was hell bent on destroying mankind, in his own hedonistic way. Just the thought of him seemed to bring back horrid memories of moments past.
Kyoto.
I’d tried to forget that time. I would have been free of everything. The flames of the Heavenly Serpent would have liberated my soul. I wouldn't have been able to cause pain to anybody else. Nobody would have to suffer because of my existence. I would have done the world well. But…. Hisoka, he pulled me back, from the brink of oblivion.
“I want you to exists, even if it’s just for me!â€
Who would have thought that he felt so strongly for me? Heh, it was selfish of him, but it was even more selfish of me to just simply up and leave all my friends. Hisoka has always kept to himself. Though now he’s become a bit more sociable, and a bit more bearable, still towards me…it’s as though he feels no affinity wit-
“Are you going to stand there all day staring into space, or are we going to actually do something about this case? You heard Konoe; you’re not to screw this up. So lets get going to see if we can find some leads.†I was knocked from my thoughts by the sound of the younger Shinigami’s voice. He simply stood there looking at me questionably in his infamous ‘Jean wear’. I nodded, smiling goofily at him. He simply rolled his eyes in response. I trotted behind him. Honestly, I had no idea where we were going, but Hisoka seemed to have some clue. For someone who’s been in the business as long as I have, I sure was oblivious to a lot of things. It’s something most people would be embarrassed to admit, but I obviously had no problem. We soon came upon an establishment. It was an old inn; vines seemed to take control of the building. It gave off an eerie presence.
“I did some searching around, it seems that one of the victims was last seen here. She apparently had a job here as a maid.†Hisoka pulled a picture from his pocket, waving it in front of my face. It had been one of the victims Tatsumi briefed us about. Her long brown hair covered one of her eyes. They were a deep grayish blue. She looked so happy in the picture. Too bad she'd never be able to smile again. Her youth stripped from her in the blink of an eye.“Her name is Atsuki Tohmoe, she was 22 years old. She'd been working here for about 4 months.†He placed the picture back into his pocket. I couldn't get over how such an innocent person would wind up dead. Then it hit me.
Muraki.
He had been gone a while. This could be one of his grotesque ways to draw me out. He'd do anything in his power to get me. Even kill innocent children if it'd help his twisted cause-dare I even call it that? He was a complete enigma. There was no possible way of understanding him.
“Mr. Tsuzuki. There’s nothing to fear. All I want is you. Nothing else matters to me. Those people were just simply cattle. Heh. They had no meaning, whether they’re alive or dead. You fuel my desires, Mr. Tsuzuki. You belong to no one else but me. Remember that…â€
I clutched the sides of my head, dropping to my knees. The thought of someone dying for me was too much to bear. It was maddening. I’d done nothing to him to deserve this, nor did those people who he'd senselessly killed. They were all innocent. It was all because of me…Me!
“Tsuzuki! Tsuzuki! Are you all right? Can you hear me! Tsuzuki! Snap out of it!†I was brought back from my consuming thoughts. Hisoka stood before me. We still remained in the front of the building. His eyes stared at me in concern. He knew. How could he not? My emotions were more than at full blast for the young empath to feel. He knew how Muraki plagued me, causing me to breakdown mentally and physically. A deep pain entered my heart. Though he'd seen me in this state before, I wished that he wouldn't have a second chance at it. I was able to bring myself to a stance, with assistance from my partner. I couldn't look him in the eye. Shame of my weakness washed over me.
“You know, you don't have to face this alone. I'm your partner. When one of us faces something so does the other. I'm here to help you, even if you feel like you don't need it.No matter what it is. So…just try to remember that fact more often, if it’s not too much trouble for a simpleton like you.†I couldn't help but smile at him. He always seemed to be nice and then insult me to cover it up. It was his style.
“Thanks Hisoka. You’re so sweet!†His face immediately flushed and he narrowed his eyes at me. But I knew he couldn't stay mad at me for long. I continued to smile at him. Ultimately he threw his hands up in frustration.
“Come on. We've wasted enough time already. Lets go in and see if we can get any more information.†He walked off.
“Alrighty! Hey! Don't leave me behind!†I rushed off after him. If I trusted in Hisoka, then perhaps things would get better. Hopefully.
Oka Reru Kawa Inn
“Wow. This place is huge. It looks so small from the outside. And run down too! But on the inside, it’s all…. spiffy!†I was amazed by the lavish interior of the Inn.
“Spiffy? That’s a new one. Try to keep your voice down, there are other people that are here you know, and I'm sure that they don't want to hear your voice right now.†Hisoka shot me a look that served its purpose. I kept my mouth closed. He could sure be a little prick when he wanted to.
“I'm sorry for being a prick.†He spoke with a slight anger in his voice. I laughed nervously. I’d forgotten about his empathic abilities just as quickly as I remembered he had them. It was quiet throughout the Inn. Sunlight from outside shown in through the dusty windows, gently illuminating the wood floor. A statue of a gargoyle perched above a door, seeming to lead outside, cast its gaze downward at those who entered. It seemed as though nobody was there. I mean, after hearing a former employee was murdered, business wouldn't exactly be booming. We made our way over to the check in desk. I quickly tapped the bell. A young woman poked her head from behind the curtain, which served as a door of some sort, blocking view from the front desk to the back room. She seemed pleased.
“Ah! Welcome to Oka Reru Kawa! Do you gentlemen have a reservation?†She seemed eager to have our company. I grew a bit nervous. We didn't have any reservations. Would she ask us to leave because of that? Hopefully not. Hisoka cleared his throat, hoping to sound important.
“Yes. We do have a reservation. It should be under the name, 'Takakure', a room for 2. Do you see it?†Hisoka leaned over the desk looking at the reservation book. The girl nodded and began to fumble through the it. Hisoka pressed on. “It’s kind of sad. The young lady that worked here. Her being killed in all, is what I mean. Atsuki…was her name…I think. Did you know her...Miss.…ah?â€
“Hinara shi. And yes I knew her. She was such a suck up to the boss. She probably only had one friend here. None of the other girls liked her. If you asked me, I think she got what was coming to her. She was so unsettling, she was always smiling, but I hear she held satanic rituals in her house at night. It was probably one of those demons she'd been trying to summon up, or something that killed her.†The girl continued to flip through the pages, but even more feverishly than before. I winced at her words. Wishing death upon someone was not something I was a fan of.
“Satanic rituals?†Hisoka questioned the Miss. Hinarashi’s last statement. I had almost forgot she had said that. She looked up from the book.
“Yea, I heard she prayed to the devil or something like that, to bring back her father. He was killed in a car accident about a year ago. He was walking across the street and some drunk hit him. It was sad really, but just because someone dies of an accident and you want them back doesn't mean you have to get into freaky stuff like that! It’s just not right, or sane for that matter. She'd bring all sorts of books relating to that junk to work with her. Personally I don't believe in stuff like that.On her brake’s she'd sit in the back and just read them. I mean she was really odd if you ask me.â€
Hisoka shot me a look. I nodded in acknowledgement. The girl took one last look through the book and looked up at us. “I'm sorry but I can't seem to find the name ‘Takakure’ here at all. Are you sure you had a reservation at this Inn?†She looked at us suspiciously.
“Your probably right we must have the wrong place. Well, sorry for bothering you Miss. Hinarashi. Thank you for your patience.†Hisoka bowed politely and motioned toward the door. She then looked at me. I smiled as best I could and scurried after my younger and apparently more cunning partner.
“Wow! How'd you know she'd tell you about Atsuki? Heh, I probably wouldn't have thought of something like that.†I beamed at him.
“I didn't. I just got lucky. I was just trying to stall her to see if I could read her feelings about Atsuki, but she made it easier and came forward on her own.†He stooped in his tracks. “It seems that we have some information on Atsuki. This may be helpful with the other victims as well. But we should also try to find the culprit so that there are no more incidents to worry about.â€
“You're right.†I added. “Lets meet up with Gushooshin Ani and see if he has any information that could prove useful to us.†Hisoka agreed and we headed back to the Summons Department. If only I had known, someone had been watching us. It was unknown to me then, but it was something that I’d regretted not taking note of.
Enma-Cho
I sighed upon making my entrance into the Summons Department. From what Hisoka learned, it seemed that Atsuki, out of the 12 victims had enemies, but jealousy is one thing. To kill someone over it, is certainly another. We headed up to the Library; there was no doubt that at least one of the two twins would be there. It was finally rebuilt from my last encounter concerning it.Upon reaching the library thoughts of my last time here washed over me…
“How can you save him? This black sheep! One who has turned from God? Judas! He’s not worth saving. How dare you judge me? When this one that lives amongst you has committed the crimes of decades past!â€
Sagatanus.
I shuddered at the thought. I was too weak to fight of the demon that'd possessed me. Were it not for Hijiri and the others, who knows what would have happened. Certainly not something enjoyable. But that was all behind me now. Hijiri was safe, and Sagatanus was probably nothing more than ashes on the wind. Hisoka reached for the door, but was stopped by the rushing sound of feet against the tile floor. Watari appeared behind us, visibly out of breath. His blonde locks hanging over one shoulder. He was bent over, hands on his knees gasping for air. He raised his hand, signaling for a bit more time. I sweat dropped.
“Quickly! Tatsumi and the Chief have something they want to show you! Now quickly, on the double!†Hisoka and I exchanged looks and ran ahead towards Konoe’s office, leaving Watari behind us. “Hey! Don't leave me behind! Hmph! How about a little respect!â€
What could have been so important? I was filled with a nervous rush. Could it be..? Muraki! Could they have found his whereabouts? And if so, had he done something sinister? These along with many other ideas jumbled in my head. Hisoka and I burst into Konoe’s office. Tatsumi raised his eyes from the clipboard in his arm. He adjusted his glasses glancing toward the Chief.
He cleared his throat, running his fingers through his hair. “It seems that we have new information. Though it’s not pertaining to this case. According to officials in Kagoshima, a young woman had gone missing for about a week. She recently turned up in a nearby park. She had been stabbed multiple times from her neck to her abdomen. Under her nails there was tissue, which as been identified as skin, from her assailant.†He again adjusted his glasses once more, his dark cobalt eyes meeting mine. He began again, “With help from Watari, the skin sample was identified and matched to…. Kazutaka Muraki.â€
My eyes widened. Muraki! He'd shown himself. As much as I wanted to believe it, I knew somewhere inside of me that he was still alive. Hisoka was enough proof of that. But still, his death would mean the end of my suffering; the end of suffering that was going to belong to those he'd yet to attack. But, it was not meant to be. He was alive. And his quest for me had started once again.
A/N: Well that’s chapter one for you. I'm not too sure when chap 2 will be completed, but it’s half done. So soon, I hope. R & R. Comments are greatly appreciated. I know it seems as though not much happened but don’t worry! The pairings will be come more obvious as the story progresses. E-mails are welcomed as well! Thank you.
