Chapter Forty-One: The Next Move:
-Watari-
He had the answer to the mystery. Now how would he wrap up the
case? Watari played the tape for Konoe. The boss eyed him after the
scientist hit stop.
“You're saying that Orphan's real body is somewhere in
Japan?” he asked.
“Yes,” Watari said.
“Do you know where?”
“No.” Watari paused. “But we are working on
it.” He doesn't have the how. That wasn't a ghost or demon
who saw him in that internet café. That was a human in front
of him. But how many were there? How did he get them to do his
bidding?
At least Watari had a to go on.
“I want to start with the hospitals in Tokyo,” he
said.
“Okay,” Konoe said.
“I feel that the real body is about to die,” the blonde
shinigami added. “I will track the soul from there.” He
had that much. But then what? Turn him in to be judged, of course.
What about the puppets? They were still alive and human. How many
were there? How involved were workers in the factory? How much did
they really know?
“And the puppets?” Konoe asked.
“Still looking for them,” Watari said.
“I see,” the boss said. “That's all for
now.”
“Thank you, sir,” the blonde scientist said. He bowed
and walked out of the office. Just find the body and work from
there. That should do it.
-Tsuzuki-
He too ponders the next move. Anna was still on his side. Her plan
was moving along nicely. But now, the stakes grew worse. She was
about to be forced to marry the man who made her a target. This
couldn't work.
“Will you calm down?” Hisoka asked. “We'll think
of something.” But what? They knew nothing about the enemy.
Were they surrounded?
“Anything yet?” Tsuzuki asked.
“No,” Hisoka said. His partner fought to calm down.
They needed to stop the wedding. They had the location, but not the
how. Tsuzuki looked at his phone. Thee more hours to go. Rushing
out to the chapel would make things worse. Tsuzuki didn't want to
risk putting the humans in danger. But…
“Kimoto-san can handle herself,” Hisoka said. Tsuzuki
forced himself to smile. That may be true, but she may have backed
herself into a corner this time. He should have faith in her. But
this time, it looked near hopeless.
Tsuzuki sighed.
“I'm so sorry,” he said.
“I know,” Hisoka said. “We'll go down there at
seven.” Good, but happens next? Did they have a plan to break
up the wedding? How were they going to take the mark off of Anna's
soul? And what to do with the client once Anna is okay?
“Need a break?” Hisoka asked. Tsuzuki lowered his
eyes.
“Yes,” he said. “Excuse me.” The shinigami
stood up and walked out of the room.
“Don't be gone too long,” his partner said. The door
closed behind Tsuzuki.
All four sides are waiting. Who will make the next move?
