Yami No Matsuei Fan Fiction ❯ The Devil's Disciple ❯ Hijiri the witness ( Chapter 1 )

[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]
Hijiri began walking home from school. Those rich snobs never bothered him since the last time he'd seen Tsuzuki and Hisoka. But there was something that still bothered him. He missed them so much, he sometimes felt ill. Today was not as bad, actually, he felt kind of good as he lifted his left hand to touch his eye, as if of its own accord.

He stopped, something felt strange. Why would he suddenly touch his left eye like that? The contract had long been erased from his new cornea. He decided to shrug it off and continue to walk home, humming the tune of a new song he had learned.

"I can't help but wonder. What exactly is Tsuzuki up to these days?" Probably protecting someone else from some sort of devil, demon, vampire, or whatever else disturbs normal life. And that's right, he was just another one of those damsels in distress.. Except, he was not exactly a damsel, he was a guy. But what did it matter in this situation?

"He probably forgot all about me.." Just then, as he neared his home, he heard a cry coming from the woods across the street. Looks like he spent too much time daydreaming, for it was getting dark already. But it sounded like someone was in trouble, so he rushed out into the woods, the sound of a sharp knife slicing and ripping away at clothes and flesh.

Now he was beginning to wonder if it was wise to do so, it could be a murderer, which was most likely. And he'd probably end up getting killed as well, he could just turn around, go to a payphone and notify the police. But something inside him kept him going.

Finally he came to a screeching stop, but gaped at the horrific sight of a headless woman lying in a pool of he own blood. Mass amounts of even more blood escaping her body from stab wounds all over her chest and abdomen.

Above her stood a very tall man dressed in a large white coat, stained with blood, and had metallic, silvery hair. He was admiring the woman's head he was now holding, before he turned and saw a terrified Hijiri. "How troublesome. A witness. I'll have to fix that, now won't I?" He smiled and tossed the head aside. "There was one who was as unfortunate as you, you know." He came closer and Hijiri, too frightened to do anything else, slowly stepped backward. "He was just as beautiful as you. The resemblance is uncanny."

Hijiri suddenly remembered a time when he had overheard Tsuzuki talking about him. "Their resemblance is.. Uncanny.." He knew he was talking about him, but who was the other? The only person he knew who looked a lot like him was.

"Hisoka.."

"Hm? It seems you know something about Tsuzuki and his partner. Now I know you know far too much." He smiled again, coming closer and closer. Hijiri backed up into a tree, and now they were at arms length of each other.

"What do you want?"

"Your life, no less. But maybe I should teach you the same lesson I did the other one."

'What did he do to Hisoka?'

The man stopped. He then smiled and turned around, walking away, "You're lucky this time."

The next thing he knew he was gone. Hijiri sighed and then remembering the woman on the ground turned to go back. "I have to get the police here-"

"There's no need for that." Only one person had that voice. The voice he sometimes dreamed about and had missed so much. He turned and saw Tsuzuki and Hisoka standing near the body, and what seemed to be Watari inspecting the body.

"I can't seem to find any trace of the doer, it's like he just disappeared as soon as we got here." Said Watari, scratching his head in confusion not one bit trace could be found.

Tsuzuki turned to Hijiri, "I didn't expect to see you here, but it's good to know that you are all right."

"..Tsuzuki..."

Hisoka cut in suddenly, "Enough with the greetings. Hijiri, did you see the person who did this? You were here when it happened, weren't you?"

"Uh, yeah. He was tall, a man, and it was just like. It was like."

"It's okay, Hijiri, we'll give you some time to think about it. You've just witnessed a murder."

Hijiri's gaze fell unwillingly onto Hisoka, who did not fail to notice. He couldn't help it. He just kept staring at the boy. What exactly did that guy do to him?

"Something wrong?"

"Uh. No."

The people he thought he'd never see again were right in front of him. But they were too busy with the case of the murder to bother with him right now. Or at least, that's what he thought.
