Chapter One: Time is Now

The rain pours down on a tall blown hair man who leans his head back to let the rain hit his face. Without a care of the weather, Tsuzuki thinks about the past and what he is feeling right now. The pain that does not fade away and the afterlife he was willing to give up. If Hisoka did not come into Touda's flames, Tsuzuki would have taken that second death. He would have been glad to die with the mad doctor, Muraki. Now, Tsuzuki sits against the tree with the rain pouring down on himself to think why he would love to die with Muraki. The rain reminds him of all the tears he has shred through his life. He always wanted to know what was the reason behind Muraki's actions. He could never understand why a doctor who saved lives would turn his back and kill people with the same hands. The wind picks up and sends chills down Tsuzuki's back. It is like the Gods mocking his suffering. He can never see the light because there is too much blood on his hands. Looking up at the dark sky, Tsuzuki whispers in a sad voice, "Muraki. Why am I thinking of you at this moment?" Even if Tsuzuki doesn't want to remember what happened in Kyoto, his thoughts lead him back there and the guilt for leaving Muraki to die still burns his soul.

Meanwhile, at the church in Nagasaki, Muraki sits in a pew thinking of the same man who is thinking about him. He asks himself while staring at the ceiling to notice the angels singing their praises to their savor, "Why am I thinking of you, Mr. Tsuzuki?" It is dark in the church and he hears the rain pouring outside. He hates the rain for the fact it brings him back to his past. The past that Muraki wishes to forget. He has longed for death and freedom from the revenge he has had since he was a teenager. He knows how Hisoka feels ever time the boy thinks of himself for he feels it every second he breathes. Hearing footsteps, Muraki turns to see who dares to interrupt his thoughts to only find his long timed friend staring at him with concern in his eyes. Muraki turns around to face the front of the church without saying a word to Oriya. He doesn't have anything to say to him and he only wishes for peace for a while.

Oriya never expected to see Muraki so depressed. He silently walks to the pew where his friend whom he loves with his entire heart sits and takes a seat next to him. Looking around the church, Oriya finds it surprising that Muraki enjoys churches. It was a long time ago that Oriya learned to look for Muraki in churches. He never understood what made Muraki interested in these places. For someone like Muraki to come into a place of worship, no one would believe it unless they saw it with their own eyes. Oriya breaks the silence with a question he has to know the answer to, "Where have you been for these past three years, Muraki?" Muraki only stares into space and refuses to answer his friend's question. Oriya doesn't like the way Muraki is acting. It is scaring him and worrying him at the same time. As long as he has known Muraki, he has never seen Muraki look like giving up with life. Muraki entire life was for revenge and now that Saki is truly gone, he looks like he is willing to die to end his torment. Oriya stands up with anger in his eyes as he yells, "Damn it! Muraki, answer me!"

Muraki looks up to see the anger in his friend's eyes and wishes he could see purple eyes once again. That is what he silently wishes for. He wants to see his favorite guardian once again. To know what it is like to feel emotions with that man, but he knows that will never happen. Tsuzuki loves the boy, he killed so long ago. He has made sure everyone believed he was dead by taking back the curse that mark that boy's body. It was the only way to never be found. Of course, they would check his candle and see that he is alive. He solved that problem six months ago when he found a power that would make his candle go out. In Muraki's mind, he is already dead. At least in the soul and wishes for it in body. Muraki finally speaks, "You need not worry yourself about where I have been, Oriya." Leaning his head back to stare at the picture of the angels once again, he mumbles in a cold voice, "Leave me be, Oriya. I wish to be alone." He hears the grasp coming from Oriya but doesn't look at him. He just wants to be left alone right now. Hearing the footsteps walk away, he whispers, "I am sorry, my friend."

Unknown to Muraki, Oriya heard his friend's words and stops right in front of the church doors and whispers back, "I could never stay mad at you for very long, Kazu." Giving Muraki the name he did when they were younger, Oriya walks out into the dark cold raining night to see a tall man with purple eyes staring at the church like some kind of palace. He smiles to see the one person Muraki wants to see the most. He walks by Tsuzuki and whispers, "Take care of him, guardian of death."

Tsuzuki looks behind him to see Oriya walk away and wonders who the guy was. He knows about Tsuzuki and that makes him worry with fear in his heart. What is Tsuzuki going to find in the church where he first met the mad doctor? He slowly walks into the church to find the same man he was thinking about all night sitting in a pew without a worry in the world. Tsuzuki looks closer to see the tears in Muraki's eyes and the trembling form. Walking towards the man slowly, Tsuzuki asks with concern in his voice, "What is wrong, Muraki?"

Muraki turns around fast to stare at concern purple eyes and thinks that he is dreaming of this beautiful illusion. Tsuzuki could not be here staring at him with kindness in his eyes. Muraki doesn't deserve that look from this man kneeling before him. Touching Tsuzuki's face with a shaky hand to make sure that his mind is not projecting Tsuzuki's image, Muraki states in a sad voice, "Mr. Tsuzuki. Why are you here?" He was sure no one would come to look for him. Muraki didn't believe they would see past the false illusions that he created to escape from their eyes. Now, he knows that they were not fooled and his life will be finished. He observes the church to notice no one is with Tsuzuki. He begins to wonder why Tsuzuki would come alone.

Tsuzuki notices Muraki's eyes wondering around and speaks in a low tone, "No one is here with me. We thought you were dead. How?" He stares up at Muraki's beautiful face to seek out his answers, but sees nothing but sadness and defeat. Why would Muraki look like that? This man was someone he could see has surviving anything that came his way, but now Muraki looks like he has given up on life. It is the same with Tsuzuki. It is the same look and the same emotions. "What draws me to you, Muraki? Why do I feel these emotions for you?" Tsuzuki asks these two questions to himself while staring at the man. Then it hits him right in the heart and mind, Tsuzuki is in love with Muraki. The tears roll down his face and feels Muraki's hand wipe them away as it was like this forever.

Muraki tilts his head to the side and whispers with a smile on his face, "I love you, Asato Tsuzuki." He leans his head back and closes his eyes. That is the reason he has remained alive for three years. It was to say those three words to Tsuzuki. It was to tell him the truth behind the mask. Feeling Tsuzuki lay his head on his lap, he whispers, "It is finally over. My life has only been about revenge and now it is finally over." This hatred within Muraki has lasted far too long for him to carry on with life.

Tsuzuki takes Muraki's hand into his and mumbles with tears in his eyes, "I love you too, Kazutaka Muraki." He listens to Muraki's soft breathing and wishes that it did not end like this. Raising his head to watch Muraki's chest raise and fall, he replies, "I'm sorry, Muraki."

Muraki opens his eyes for the last time while stating, "Do not be sorry, Mr. Tsuzuki. It was you who sent me free and for that my favorite guardian of death, I will be grateful to you. Please do me one last favor." Tsuzuki nods his head and Muraki resorts, "Kiss me and call me by my first name."

Tsuzuki blushes his sweet rosy lips against Muraki's while mumbling, "It is time. I love you, Kazutaka." He watches Muraki close his eyes to never open again and the smile that traces Muraki's lips. A true smile that Tsuzuki has never seen on those beautiful lips that match the pale skin Muraki's has. He lays his head against Muraki's chest while sitting on Muraki's lap to feel the heart beat slow down. Tsuzuki chooses to stay until it is over. His tears roll down his face freely when Tsuzuki hears the last beat of the heart of a man who had his. He doesn't understand why it ends like this.

Unknown to Tsuzuki that widen green eyes stare at them by the door and thinks, "Tsuzuki." He can feel the emotions that Tsuzuki and Muraki both just had. It is hard for him to see a man whom he secretly loves with the man who killed him, but he can feel the great sadness and guilt in Tsuzuki that drives him with pain of his own. He wants to walk to Tsuzuki while giving him a hug and telling him that it is all right. So many emotions are running through Tsuzuki right now that it is hard for Hisoka to stand up straight. He leans on the wall as he feels the emotions of love, guilt, betrayal, sadness, and hatred for himself. "Tsuzuki wishes he died with Muraki, but he wants to live because of me," Hisoka thinks with guilt in his heart.
