Chapter 1:
Vampire's Curse

A boat had pulled up to a port near Duel Academy island. Various students were walking off the boat and were heading for their respective dorm rooms. Jaden and Alexis walked off the boat, arm and arm. They had an amazing summer together; Alexis met Jaden's parents and spent the entire summer at the Yuki residence. She enjoyed spending some time with Jaden's mom and did things with her like shopping at the mall and cooking dinner. Whenever Jaden and Alexis have some alone time, they would travel around and visit various places like Heaven's Night and the arcade. But unfortunately, it all had to come to an end since the new school year was starting. A lot had changed since last semester, Chumley had graduated and was now a card designer at Industrial Illusions and Syrus was now a sophomore at Duel Academy. Jaden and Alexis were looking forward to a few classes together along with their friends, Syrus and Bastion.

"Here we are at good ol' Duel Academy," Jaden said cheerfully.

"Yeah. Looking forward to some major duels in this semester," Alexis added.

"You and me both, love," Jaden said.

"I just wish my brother was here to see it all," Alexis said sadly.

"What was he like?" Jaden asked.

"Atticus? He's a very cool guy but sometimes he can be a major pain in the ass," Alexis replied.

"A dude after my own heart," Jaden joked.

Alexis smiled upon hearing Jaden's remark. "Atticus would've liked you, Jaden."

"I'm sure he would. I know what could cheer ya up," Jaden said. "Would ya like to have dinner tonight? It'll help get your mind off of Atticus for a while."

"Sure thing," Alexis said. "Then afterwards, you and I can have some dessert."

Jaden blushed. "O-ok, Alexis, heh heh heh heh."

"I'll be heading for my dorm now but I'll see you in a little while," Alexis said, kissing Jaden's cheek then took off.

Jaden smiled as Syrus and Bastion walked off the boat and greeted their mutual friend.

"Hey, Jay," Syrus said.

"Hey, Sy and Bastion," Jaden said.

"Damn, Jaden, you look happy," Bastion said.

"Oh, yeah. I have a big date with Alexis tonight," Jaden said excitedly.

"Oh, really? Tell me, casanova, are you gonna bang her tonight?" Bastion asked.

"Yeah, Jay. You've been datin' Alexis for over a year now," Syrus said.

"Huh? Shut up," Jaden said, slightly annoyed. "You dudes know I'm not ready for that kinda jump yet."

"Whatever, Jaden. You know Alexis wants you pretty bad," Syrus said.

"Oh, please. Get to your damn dorms," Jaden said angrily. "I'll see ya both in class soon."

"Ok, see ya, Jaden," Syrus said as he and Bastion headed for the sophomore dorm.

As Jaden headed for the freshmen dorm, a mysterious figure dressed in middle-eastern attire watched from the shadows of the harbor. His face was hidden by a black mask with yellow eyes.

'Hmm, he could be the one,' The dark man mentally said with a demonic german accent.

After heading for his dorm and unpacking his stuff, Jaden headed for his first class but unfortunately, teaching his first class was Dr. Crowler. Jaden walked into the classroom with a few text books in hand and got into his assigned seat. He saw Alexis sitting above him. She noticed her boyfriend and smiled and waved to him. Jaden did the same as Dr. Crowler walked to his desk.

"Good morning, class," Dr. Crowler greeted as he placed his stuff on the desk. "I hope you all had a lovely summer. Now open your text books to page fifty, today we're studying field advantages."

As Dr. Crowler began writing on the chalkboard and talked, Jaden zoned out and spoke to himself in his head.

'Blah, blah, blah. This dude never shuts up,' Jaden said mentally. 'Just because I kicked his ass in the duelin' exam doesn't mean he should have it out for me. I can't wait for this day to be over.'

Dr. Crowler snapped Jaden out of his trance by yelling, "Jaden! Are you paying attention!?"

"Huh? Of course, dude," Jaden said. "Just don't have a cow."

"One more remark outta you and I'll give you a month's worth of Saturday detention!" Dr. Crowler yelled.

"Hey, hey, it's cool," Jaden said.

Some of the classmates, except Alexis, giggled at Jaden's sudden embarrassment. After that class was over and attending a few more classes, Jaden headed for Prof. Lyman Banner's science class. It was even more boring than Dr. Crowler's class. As Prof. Banner was talking about how to mix formulas or chemicals, Jaden was fast asleep but was quickly woken up when Banner's pet cat, Pharaoh, jumped to where the young duelist sat and rubbed its head and body against him.

"Ah, Jaden, nice to see you awake," Banner said.

"Huh? Sorry, Prof. Banner, I dozed off for a bit," Jaden said.

"Ok, since you slept nearly through my class, you'll have to stay after class and do a make-up," Banner said.

"Oh, dude," Jaden complained. "I got something to do later."

"Well, you snooze, you lose," Banner said. "Ok, class dismissed except for Jaden, of course."

"Oh, crap," Jaden said sadly.

"Don't worry, Jaden," Alexis said as she placed her hand on Jaden's shoulder. "I can always take a raincheck on our dinner date."

"Dinner date? I never knew you two had a dinner date," Banner deduced. "I'll tell you what, Jaden; if you finish your work, I'll see to it that you attend to your plans with Alexis."

"Ok, it's a deal," Alexis said. "See ya around, Jaden."

Alexis left as Jaden started to work on his assignment. Prof. Banner tutored his young student through the course. Jaden took some notes as Prof. Banner explained what he said in class. Afterward, Jaden was free to go.

"Now that wasn't so bad, huh, Jaden?" Prof. Banner asked.

"I just wanted to get ready for my date, that's all," Jaden replied.

"All right, Jaden but remember this, don't fall asleep in my class anymore," Prof. Banner said.

"Ok. I'll see ya around, Prof. Banner," Jaden said as he left the classroom.

Pharaoh jumped onto the desk and meowed as Prof. Banner said, "You're right, Pharaoh. I have a feeling something bad is gonna happen."

Jaden was running for his dorm room as he glanced at his watch. It was 5:30. He had about thirty minutes to get ready for dinner with Alexis but unfortunately, Jaden wouldn't make it to his date. He bumped into a man dressed in dark middle-eastern attire and also wore a black mask to cover his face.

"Hello, Jaden," The mysterious man said.

"Who the fuck are you!?" Jaden shouted. "Can't ya see I'm in a hurry here!?"

"You'll just have to change your plans," the menacing man answered.

"What do you want with me?" Jaden asked.

The menacing man just grabbed Jaden by the wrist and pulled him in close, using his free hand to pull the mask away from his mouth, revealing sharp fangs.

"What the...!?" Jaden screamed as the vampire sanked his fangs into Jaden's neck.

The young duelist screamed as his attacker started to drink his blood. Jaden moaned as he collapsed to his knees while the vampire kept on drinking. He pulled back and wiped Jaden's blood from his mouth. Jaden's attacker pulled the mask back down and said, "You have been chosen, my friend. In time, you'll know why."

The masked man disappeared into the shadows as Jaden passed out. Fifteen minutes later, Jaden regained consciousness and got up with little strength he had left. He placed his hand on the bite marks which was still bleeding and staggered his way back to the dorm. Meanwhile, Alexis was waiting for Jaden back at the dorm. She wore a black dress. Alexis wanted to look beautiful for Jaden when he arrived but she was now getting pissed off because he was tardy.

"Damn, that Jaden!" Alexis shouted. "He wouldn't be this late."

"Come on, Alexis, give the dude some time," Syrus said. "He'll show up."

"I'm sure Prof. Banner isn't making Jaden stay overtime for fucking school work," Bastion added.

"It's not like him to be this late though," Alexis said. "If he doesn't get here, I'm going back to my dorm."

"Speak of the bloody devil," Bastion said. "Look who's coming."

Alexis and co. noticed Jaden was staggering toward the dorm house while holding his neck. They also noticed blood on his right hand.

"Alexis...I'm...so..." Jaden said weakly before he fainted due to blood loss.

"Oh, no! Jaden!" Alexis screamed as she grabbed him.

"What the hell happened to him?" Syrus asked with concern.

Alexis tilted Jaden's head to the left and saw two bite marks on his neck.

"Oh, my god!" Alexis screamed. "What the fuck happened to his neck!?"

"Did he get bitten by a rattle snake?" Syrus asked with concern.

"I don't think so but we gotta go him to the bloody nurse's office now!" Bastion shouted. "Quick, put him on my back! I'll carry him there!"

Alexis and Syrus placed Jaden on Bastion's back then they headed for the nurse's office. They ran for it seemed like for miles. Alexis had to take off her high heels since they weren't made for running and they were killing her feet. After arriving at the nurse's office, Fonda Fontaine asked, "What's going on here?"

"Jaden needs some immediate medical care," Bastion replied. "He's lost a ton of blood."

"Please, help him!" Alexis pleaded.

"Ok, place him on the bed, now," Fonda ordered.

Syrus and Alexis placed Jaden on the bed and lay him down. Fonda told everyone to leave the room so she could stop the bleeding. Nearly about an hour or two later or an eternity to Alexis, Fonda asked everyone to come in.

"How is he, Fonda?" Alexis asked.

"Well, he almost went into hypovolemic shock but I was able to stop his bleeding and gave him a blood transfusion," Fonda replied. "But who knows what'll happen in the next several hours."

"Um, you wouldn't mind if I stayed with Jaden for a while?" Alexis asked.

"Sure. I can set up a small cot next to Jaden's bed," Fonda replied. "From the way you're speaking, you must love him very much."

"I do," Alexis said.

"Do ya want us to stay with ya for a while?" Syrus asked.

"That's all right," Alexis replied.

"Ok, then. Have a good night, Alexis," Bastion said.

"See ya later then," Syrus said as he and Bastion left.

Fonda set up the cot next to Jaden's hospital bed then placed a pillow and a blanket on the cot. Alexis thanked her and watched over Jaden for a few hours. She said some kind words to him and stroked his hair a bit.

Alexis held Jaden's hand and said, "Please don't die, Jaden. I know you've suffered through worse shit than this. I love you too much just to see you die now. Please get well."

She kissed Jaden's cheek and lay herself down on the cot to sleep. Jaden was tossing and turning in his sleep as he felt cold sweat on his brow. He was having a nightmare

(Nightmare)

Jaden was walking through the dark hallways of Duel Academy. He heard sounds of hissing and sucking coming from one of the classrooms. He opened the door to see various dead bodies littering the class room and blood on the walls and floor. He saw the corpses of Syrus, Bastion, Chazz, Prof. Banner, and Dr. Crowler. The body the dark figure was feeding on was his beloved Alexis Rhodes.

"Oh, god! Alexis!" Jaden screamed as he ran toward the figure. "Leave her alone!"

Jaden grabbed the stranger's shoulder to see who he is. He got a good look at the stranger's face. The stranger turned out to be Jaden himself. Jaden gasped as his counterpart exposed his fangs to him then the nightmare ended.

(End Nightmare)

Jaden woke up suddenly. He pulled the iv tube out of his arm as he saw Alexis sleeping in the cot. He looked at her and ran his hand through her hair as he felt a little parched.

"Uuuhhh, I feel so thirsty," Jaden said.

He got up from his bed to get a drink of water. Jaden went into the bathroom, pulled out a paper cup and filled it with water. He chugged the water down but and swallowed it. Jaden puked up some blood. He threw the paper cup away as he saw sharpened canine-like fangs in the mirror. He gasped upon seeing his newly transformed fangs then punched the mirror in an act of rage.

'What's happening to me!?' Jaden screamed in his mind. 'Why am I so fuckin' thirsty!?'

Jaden walked out of the bathroom and stared at Alexis. He gazed down at her neck as he felt the urge to drink. Jaden opened his mouth to bite his girlfriend's neck but quickly resisted.

"No! I can't do it," Jaden said to himself. "What's this urge I'm havin'?"

He didn't want to know what the answer was. Jaden kissed Alexis' cheek then walked up to the window and opened it. The cool breeze blew into the room as Jaden said, "I'm sorry, Alexis. I love you."

Jaden jumped out of the window and landed on his feet. He ran into the forest to disappear into the darkness forever. Jaden let out a few labored breathes as he ran. He stopped to catch his breath as he realized the thirst was getting stronger.

"What's the matter, halfbreed?" A voice called out. "Feelin' thirsty?"

"Fuck off!" Jaden yelled.

"I don't know why my master chose you, halfbreed," The voice said. "You don't deserve these vampire powers he has given you. It should be mine!"

"Your master?" Jaden asked.

"Yes. The masked man who bit you," The voice said. "He shouldn't have passed his powers down to a pathetic halfbreed."

"Halfbreed?" Jaden echoed. "What are you talking about?"

"Oh, you didn't know? You're turning into a vampire, Jaden," The voice said.

"A vampire?" Jaden uttered. "Shit." In a lower voice, "That explains the thirst."

"Yes, vampires drink blood," The voice said. "The thirst cannot be quenched by ordinary liquids. Vampires gotta survive on blood."

"Ya better show yourself right now!" Jaden screamed.

"I don't know if I should in your weakened state but if you insist," The voice said.

The owner of the voice emerged from the shadows of the forest, he turned out to be a teenager with long brown hair, he wore a dark colored shirt with matching pants and boots. They were draped in a purple overcoat. His face was hidden behind a dark purple mask with blue eyes.

"Who are you and what do you want with me?" Jaden asked.

"My master sent me to test your vampire abilities, halfbreed," The masked teenager replied. "And the name's Nightshroud."

"I hope you have ass-whuppin' insurance, Nightshroud," Jaden said.

"Who says I was gonna fight you, little man?" Nightshroud asked rhetorically. "I'm invitin' a few friends over to this party."

With the snap of his fingers, Nightshroud summoned zombified Gollum-like vampires from thin air. They were very emaciated, their eyes were a jade green, and were only clad in torn blue shorts. They let out a snake-like hiss as Nightshroud said, "My friends here hadn't been fed in a long time and guess who's their first meal? You, halfbreed."

One of the zombie vampires charged at Jaden as he let out a tiger growl. Out of instinct, Jaden grabbed the zombie vampire by the neck and snapped it, killing the creature. More of the creatures charged forth as Jaden let out a loud hiss.

"Zombie time," Jaden said in a growl.

He threw the dead monster at the rampaging zombie vampires then jumped at great heights into the mob of the monsters. Consumed by his will to survive, Jaden lashed out at the monsters. He gave one of the creatures a judo flip which tore its arm off. Jaden tossed the torn arm aside then smashed another creature's teeth out. Jaden roared as he continued to slaughter them like lambs but during the skirmish, two of the vampires badly wounded him. He grabbed the two vampires who attacked him from behind and killed them by bashing their head together. Despite his injuries, Jaden killed all the zombie vampires that Nightshroud summoned.

"It seems you've mastered your vampire abilities well, halfbreed," Nightshroud said as he kicked Jaden in the face. "But you're still weak. Sooner or later, ya gonna have to drink blood in order to survive. Check ya later."

Nightshroud left. Jaden's eyes glazed over as he moved about on the grass and eventually passed out. Half hour later, Jaden regained semi-consciousness. In his blurred vision, Jaden saw two men wearing midnight blue outfits accessorized with blue-grey badges.

"Is this the boy the general was looking for, Brock?" The first man asked in a disembodied voice.

"Could be him, Irving," the second man replied in a disembodied voice.

"Let's hurry and bring him back to the Darkwatch outpost," Irvin said. "This kid lost a lotta blood."

"Ya gotta admit, that's one helluva battle he's been through," Brock said as he and Irvin grabbed Jaden.

Jaden lasped back into unconsciousness once again. Sometime later, Jaden woke again as he noticed his surroundings were no longer a dark forest. He was in a dark place that was moving about with various uniforms surrounding him.

"We gotta get this kid back to the outpost before he god damn dies on us!" A voice boomed as Jaden fainted once more.

For the last hour, Jaden kept on fading in and out of consciousness. At one point, he saw various surgeons working on him then seeing a man dressed in black talking to a doctor although their speech was inaudible then went into a slumber. Finally two hours later, Jaden awoke to find himself a steel grey medical bay as a man said, "About damn time you're awake, dhampir."

"Huh? Who the hell are ya and what's a dhampir?" Jaden asked as he saw a man in his mid fifties to early sixties dressed in a midnight blue uniform with a demonic looking skull on the left breast of the uniform.

"I'm Brigadier General Trent Creed," The man replied. "And a dhampir is what you are; half vampire, half human."

"Where am I?" Jaden asked.

"You're in the Darkwatch outpost, halfbreed," Trent replied.

"Darkwatch?" Jaden echoed.

"Yes. The Darkwatch is an elite secret society that protects the world from evil and darkness," Trent said. "We've been around for nearly a millenia, halfbreed. Our daily jobs are wiping out vampire scum like you and other types of creatures."

"I'm not scum!" Jaden exclaimed.

"Whatever. You're an official agent of the Darkwatch now, kid," Trent said. "I expect you to recover by tomorrow 'cause you have serious training to do. Sleep well, halfbreed."

General Creed left as another agent entered the medical bay. He grabbed a chair and sat down next to Jaden's bed.

"Don't let the general take a piss on ya," The agent said.

"What's his damage?" Jaden asked.

"Creed? He hates vampires with a passion," The agent said. "When Creed was ten years old, his parents were killed by vampires back in his hometown o' Norwich, Connecticut. How rude o' me, I'm Regulator Brock Venture. I was one o' the guys who got ya here."

"I'm Jaden. Jaden Yuki," Jaden greeted.

"Ya almost died when we got ya here, Jaden," Brock said. "Our doctors worked 'round the clock to save ya."

"Tell them I said thanks. Mind tellin' me more about this dhampir shit?" Jaden asked.

"As the general put it: ya are half human, half vampire," Brock said. "Ya possess all the strengths but none of the weaknesses of a vampire."

"What kind of strengths?" Jaden asked.

"Yer vampire abilities are superhuman strength, jump at great distances, heal from wounds real quick, see in the dark," Brock stated. "But like vampires, dhampirs do have to feed on human blood from time to time."

"At least bein' a half-vampire has its perks," Jaden said. "What are the vampires' weaknesses?"

"Well, the whole 'crosses and holy water' concept is just a load o' dragon crap," Brock said. "Vampires can only be killed by silver, garlic, or sunlight. Take that to heart, kid."

"Well, it won't be long until I become a vampire," Jaden said sadly.

"Don't worry, we'll figure out a way to keep your vampirism under control," Brock said. "Right now, ya gotta rest up. See ya tomorrow, cowboy."

Brock left the room as Jaden went to sleep. Around morning time, Jaden, now fully recovered, was escorted by Brock and another agent in the locker room. Most of the human agents looked at Jaden with disdain since he was half-vampire and shouted derogatory comments at him.

"Hey, boys! We got some fresh meat here!" One of the agents shouted.

"Another stray vampire in the Darkwatch!" Another agent added.

"Why don't you go back to the god damn streets, you fucking stray!" Another agent screamed.

"It's bad enough we got vampires in the Darkwatch and now we gotta have a dhampir in our midst!" Another agent shouted as he spat on Jaden's face.

That was the last draw. He turned toward the agent who spat on him and flashed his vampire fangs at him. Jaden punched the agent in the face. The agent slammed into a coffin-shaped locker but got pissed off. He put up his dukes as he shouted, "You wanna fight, halfbreed!? I'll fuck your ass up!"

Before the fight could commence, Brock intervened. "Back off, Sunao! He's one of us now!"

"You're defending this bastard, Venture!?" Sunao exclaimed. "The one thing I can't stand is a vampire sympathizer!"

"Fuck ya, Sunao," Brock said. "Fuck ya up yer ass."

"Whatever. Just keep that vampire away from me, dumbass," Sunao said.

"Come on, Jay. He ain't worth it," Brock said as he and Jaden left.

"Do vampires always gotta put up with this crap?" Jaden asked.

"Some of the humans and vampires here don't like workin' with each other," Brock said. "Believe me, ya're not the first dhampir to endure this kinda prejudice."

"Who was the first?" Jaden asked.

"A train robber named Jericho Cross," Brock said. "He was bitten by a vampire named Lazarus durin' a botched train robbery in the wild west back in the 1800s. General Cartwright and most of the Darkwatch agents didn't trust him too much because he was half vampire."

"Wow," Jaden said.

"Wow is right. He was feared and respected by everyone," Brock said. "Most people say Jericho was nothin' more than a myth but I believe he was truly the greatest Darkwatch agent of all time. He was the reason why vampires joined the Darkwatch."

"Good for Jericho," Jaden said.

"Yep. If it weren't for our vampire agents, this world would still be in chaos right now," Brock said then he and Jaden stopped at Jaden's new locker. "Here ya go, yer uniform's inside."

Jaden opened the locker door to see his new uniform inside. It consisted of leather gloves with claw-like metal tips, a black long sleeved shirt with matching vest, midnight blue leather pants, dark colored combat boots with grey trim, a leather overcoat, and a Darkwatch skull badge. Jaden donned his new Darkwatch uniform and walked up to a mirror. As Jaden looked at himself in the mirror, Brock said, "Yeah, ya're lookin' badass now. Go get your new weapons and head for the trainin' room."

Jaden was directed to the training room by his fellow agents. When they found the training room, a weapons master greeted, "Hey, rookie. Choose your weapons."

There were various weapons on the racks ranging from handguns to shotguns. It took Jaden some time to pick out the right weapon that suite him. He picked out two futuristic-looking handguns and a coach gun-style short double barreled shotgun. The weapons master gave them to Jaden and said, "Good luck, kid."

Jaden entered the training room; it was a huge grey room with green lines on the ceiling, floor, and walls. Jaden heard a familiar voice saying, "Well, well, well. If it isn't my favorite halfbreed."

"Creed," Jaden said coldly.

"Welcome to the training room," Gen. Creed stated. "This is where new recruits and agents prepare themselves for the most dangerous of all missions. I usually start things off easy for all new recruits but for you, my halfbreed friend, I'm gonna kick this up a notch. Not like your life's worth shit, anyway."

"Why don't you shut your fucking mouth, Creed!?" Jaden shouted. "I'm getting tired bein' called a halfbreed! Just because I'm half-vampire, it doesn't mean ya have the right to degrade and humiliate me like this!"

"You're starting to hate me, halfbreed?" Creed asked rhetorically. "Good because I need you to channel that rage and hate into your training. Let your vampire side consume you and use your powers against the undead, you fucking disease-ridden parasite. You'll become the best agent of the Darkwatch since Jericho Cross. Begin the sim-training!"

The training room morphed into the hologram of a spooky and fog-covered cemetary. Jaden noticed skeletons armed with sickles, cleavers, and pick axes emerging from grave sites. They surrounded him while aching to tear the young dhampir apart. Jaden smiled and hissed with anger.

"It's showtime, folks!" Jaden exclaimed as he pulled out his dual handguns.

Before the sim-Reapers could surround Jaden, he jumped high in the air and fired several rounds at them. Many of the sim-Reapers' heads were blown off. Jaden landed on the ground as one of the sim-Reapers ran at him. Jaden kicked the creature's head off while another tried to cut him with one of its sickles. Jaden used the blades of his dual guns and severed its arms. While Jaden continued blasting away the Reapers, General Creed watched from the control room of the training room.

"I had this simulation put on hard yet the halfbreed is dispatching the holo-Reapers with ease," Creed said. "Time to add some more creatures. Morley, put in a couple of Banshees and an Oozer. Let's see if the son of a bitch can handle that."

"Right, sir," the technician said as he pushed a couple of buttons.

As the last Reaper was gunned down by Jaden, he heard Creed's voice. "This ain't over, Jay. In fact, your training has really begun now! For next the creatures you're about to face, you may wanna use your shotgun."

Jaden holstered his dual handguns and whipped out his short double barreled shotgun that was strapped on his back. He heard fiendish female laughter. Two pale-skinned women with flaming red hair wore saloon dresses. They floated in the air as one of them said, "Ah, ah, ah."

"Oh, God dammit," Jaden said.

The Banshees swam toward Jaden as they raised their arms to attack him. Jaden quickly dodged them as they turned around and started screaming. They unleashed purplish energy balls at him. The energy balls homed in on Jaden and struck him. He crashed onto a tombstone as one of the Banshees float toward him. Jaden quickly grabbed his shotgun and aimed it at the incoming Banshee then shot her arm off.

"Ow! My arm!" The holo-Banshee screamed.

The holo-Banshee grabbed her stump of an arm while screaming in pain. Jaden got up to aim the shotgun at the Banshee's head and blew her head off. The Banshee disintegrated as another Banshee zoomed at Jaden with the intent to attack him. Jaden quickly dodged the second holo-Banshee and quickly killed her with a shotgun blast to the head. After the second holo-Banshee died, A huge creature with thinning long hair balding on the top. It was wearing a pale purple shirt with black jeans held up by suspenders. The monster didn't have any eyes but it had sharp fangs and it wield two machetes-like cleavers.

"Oh, great. An undead fat ass," Jaden remarked.

The holo-Oozer howled as it walked toward Jaden. The monster spat a sickly yellow loogie at Jaden but he quickly dodged it. Jaden reloaded his shotgun while the Oozer swung its cleavers at him. He run up a tree and did a Matrix-style flip. The Oozer turned around as Jaden aimed his weapon at the monster's fat gut and fired. The Oozer was struck in its belly as Jaden landed on his feet. The monster fell to the ground as the sim-cemetary reverted back to the training room.

"Nice job, halfbreed," Creed said. "You've done well on your training. Now get your vampire ass over to the briefing room and get ready for your first mission."

"Whatever," Jaden said as he left the training room.

(Duel Academy/Syrus' dorm room)

Syrus woke up around 8:15 in the am. He planned on seeing Alexis and Jaden in the nurse's office but he didn't know was his friend disappeared last night. Syrus showered, got dressed, and brushed his teeth. As he was cleaning his glassess, A tall masked man appeared behind him. Syrus was spooked as the masked man said, "Hey, little man."

"AAHH! Who the hell are you!?" Syrus screamed.

The masked man chuckled. "Wouldn't you like to know."

"What do you want with me?" Syrus asked.

"Oh, nothing. I thought I'd come here to tell you what happened to your party pal, Jaden," Nightshroud said.

"I know what happened to him!" Syrus screamed. "He was attacked by a animal or something!"

Nightshroud made a fake gameshow buzzer sound. "You're wrong but you were close. Your friend will soon become a creature of the night."

"What the fuck are you talking about?" Syrus asked.

"Let me put it into layman's terms for ya. Jaden is becoming a vampire," Nightshround said.

"Vampire!? There ain't no such thing!" Syrus screamed.

"Oh, vampires are real. You'll see one up close and personal when nightfall comes," Nightshroud said as he grabbed him. "And I know just the right bait."

"Let go!" Syrus screamed.

Nightshroud and Syrus teleported out of the dorm room. Soon enough, Jaden's first mission with the Darkwatch would become personal with his friend's life on the line.

To be continued...
