Child of Light

Chapter Two: Hikari

By (Yami) White Rain

"Okay, I'm on a bed," she said standing up. "I'm in a bedroom. I'm probably in an apartment or house… but I just wonder where this apartment/house is."

She sat back down on her bed, "I wish Gatomon were here," she muttered. Her Digimon always was there for her and she could definitely use a familiar face.

She stood back up and noticed a notebook on the nightstand next to her bed. It had a blue cover and in bold black letters that said:

Yagami Hikari

"I suppose this is for me." She said and once again sat on her bed. She flipped open to the first page.

Yagami Hikari,

You have been chosen out of many to help this world. Your have faced part of your destiny in becoming a Digidestine. Now you have a new destiny to face.

You have all that you will need for the moment, but you will need to get a job at the Turtle Game Shop. This is very important. You will also attend school at Domino High School as a freshman. Follow the directions on the other side of this page to get to the school and game shop. Just go to the office and you will receive your schedule

Also in your backpack is a deck of cards, they are used to play Duel Monsters. When you have the time, read the directions on the third page and learn how to play. This is very important. Don't be afraid to get different cards or trade them. Only you can properly build your own deck.

Make sure to take the Millennium Tear with you everywhere. It should be next to where this notebook was.

Kari stopped reading for a moment and took a closer look at the Millennium Tear. It was about the size of her palm. It was shaped like a tear, of course, and it was made of gold. There was some sort of symbol in the center, an eye. She turned it over and in the middle was the symbol for the crest of light. Written on the bottom in Japanese: "only the child of light can hold this item"

The Millennium Tear was connected to a gold chain. She slipped it on around her neck.

She turned back to the notebook and continued to read.

This Item is one of eight items: The Puzzle, Ring, Key, Scales, Rod, Necklace, and Eye. The Tear is the only one not known. It was vanquished from this world to be given to the child of light, you. When certain people find out this exists, they will try and take it. You must not let it be taken or everything will fall into darkness.

You should already have been experiencing some of the tear's abilities. You will gain more and they will grow stronger. Be careful with them, the consequences not be what you expect.

You're school uniform should be in the closet with other clothes. You should be here on a Friday, so school will be in session. School starts at eight. This notebook will help you in the future, do not loose it.

Remember two things: Have faith in the heart of the cards. And choose your friends carefully, following what your instincts and abilities tell you.

Kari sighed and set the notebook down. The clock said seven; she could ponder on the facts she just received later. She was a Digidestine and she helped save the world twice. She could do this…

But last time you had your friends help… Kari reminded herself.

"I don't have a choice," She said firmly to herself, "and I will make the best of this situation."

She quickly changed into her uniform, making sure that the Millennium tear was hidden under her clothes grabbed the notebook, her backpack that was conventionally in her closet and walked out of the apartment door.

Kari walked up to her new school. If nothing else the notebook had given great directions on how to get to the school.

She walked into the school where. The office door was just around the corner, as she found out. She opened the door where a lady was talking on the phone.

When she saw Kari she held up her finger. "I've got to go, Fred. Someone needs my help."

"I'm Daphine, how may I help you?" She asked.

Kari pushed some hair behind her ear. She sort of wished she hadn't decided to grow it out… "I'm a new student, where should I go to get my schedule?"

"Just behind that door," Daphine said, pointing to a door to the far left.

"Thank you," Kari said and went to the door and knocked on it.

"Come in!" cried a cheerful voice.

Kari walked into the office. In the middle of the room was a desk with a computer. On the computer was painted: Erasa. Sitting in the chair was a blond woman with short blond hair and blue eyes. The office was a total mess and Kari wondered if the woman would be able to find anything.

"I'm Yagami Hikari, a new student. I was told I could get my schedule here."

The woman smiled and turned to her computer, "could you spell your last name for me?"

"Y-A-G-A-M-I," Kari replied.

The woman tapped a few keys. A moment later Kari's schedule was printing.

"Erasa scores!" The woman grinned giving Kari her schedule.

Kari bowed, "Thank you."

"No prob. Just doing my job."

Kari walked out of the office and looked down at the paper where her schedule was typed.

"Class A11," She muttered and looked up at the nearest door. It said C113.

Kari groaned she had no idea how big the school was. She sighed and began to wonder aimlessly through the school. To make matters worse kids by the dozen were coming into the school and blocking her way.

"You look lost, can I help?" Asked a voice.

The voice belonged to a girl a little taller then her with brown hair and blue eyes. Kari grinned, glad that someone could tell her where to go.

"I'm new here, and I have no idea where to go."

The girl smiled, "That can be tough. I'm Téa Gardner, let me see your schedule."

Kari handed it to the girl; "I'm Yagami Hikari, but just me Kari."

"What luck," Téa said, "We have the same first class, and one of my friends or I can show you to the rest of them." She handed Kari's schedule back to her.

"Thank you," Kari said gratefully. She paused for a moment as they walked down the hall. "Is all the staff as wacky as Erasa?"

"I'm afraid so, but we have quite a few great teachers." Téa said.

Within moments Kari and Téa were in their first class and Téa began to introduce her to her friends.

Téa pointed at a tall boy with sandy blond hair and brown eyes, "That's Joey Wheeler."

Then at another tall boy with dark brown hair and eyes, "That's Tristan Taylor."

Next she pointed out a small boy with purple eyes and the craziest hair she'd ever seen in her life, and her brother had one hack of a hair do. He had blond bangs, pointy black hair with a red outline. "That is Yugi Mutou."

But it wasn't the hair that drew Kari's attention it was something else. She could sense something about him. It was strange, she knew but she could often sense the very core of someone's spirit and this boy had two very different cores…

"And this is Hikari, but just call her Kari" Téa finished.

//Yugi// Yami said through their mind link, //doesn't Hikari mean light?//

//Yes// Yugi answered. //Why do you ask?//

//Just wondering// Yami said and cut of their mind link.

*"Hello, Téa, guys," said a soft voice. He was looking down.

"Hey, Ryou," Yugi said.

"Hey," said Joey.

"Is something wrong?" Kari asked softly.

"Nothing," Ryou said quickly, "I just forgot to do my homework and I need to finish it up." He looked at his friends and flashed a smile and went to his desk.

"Is he okay?" Kari asked.

"I don't know," Yugi said, "he's been like this for awhile."

"Do you play Duel Monsters?" Joey asked.

"I'm going to try and learn," Kari said.

"I'm sure you've heard of Yugi, right?" Tristan said, "Being the number one duelist and all."

That notebook wasn't kidding about Duel Monster. Kari thought. "I really just got into it."

"Just now? Have you been living under a rock or somethin'?" Joey asked.

Téa shot Joey a look.

Before Kari was forced to answer, the teacher came walked in and the rest of the students scrambled to their sets.

The teacher pushed up her glasses, "And who might you be?"

"I'm a new student," Kari said.

"Can you show me your schedule?" she asked.

Kari walked to the front of the room and handed it to her.

The teacher inspected it with her beady gray eyes and handed it back to her, "Very well. Please go sit by Ryou," she said pointing at the silver haired boy.

Kari bowed and did as the teacher asked.
