Chapter 11
Yugi woke up early in the morning, around 6:30 a.m. He was very groggy because he could not get to sleep, thanks to some… provocative dreams. "Ohh. My head is pounding like crazy.", the poor young man mumbled as he rose from his bed. He stretched some, and looked outside from his patio window. The sun was barely up, its red-yellow glow just peeking over the horizon. Yugi gazed downward and saw that Niki Beach was vacant and quiet. "Hmm. I think I'll go down and see the sunrise at the beach. I need to clear my head for a moment.", he told himself. He went to the shower for ten minutes, put on a pale white t-shirt and blue jean shorts, got some sandals on, and went out of his room. He made sure to stay quiet, as not to wake up the other girls. Going down the elevator, he reached the lobby and went outside after that. Although it was nighttime, it was fairly warm. Yugi went down to the beach, a beach towel in hand and his mind prepared to relax. Picking a comfortable spot near the shoreline, Yugi laid his blanket down and sat there enjoying the view. The sound of the gentle waves coming up to the shore and receding back was music to his ears, very pleasant and calm. "Ahhh. This is more like it.", he sighed out. He looked over the horizon and saw the sun slowly coming up in all of his glory. 'Only in dreams or movies can a beautiful scene like this appear.', he thought. The sun lighting the water, turning once placid waves into a shimmering crystal clear surface. The stars in the sky started to fade as the large morning star rose from its slumber. "Well, well. Fancy seeing you here.", a lovely voice chimed out.
Yugi looked behind him and saw that he was staring into the face of a very lovely and beautiful Helena. She was dressed in a pale white summer dress, her hair in the usual ponytail and her blue eyes sparkling like sapphires. Yugi slightly blushed and said, "Oh! Hello, Helena.". She giggled slightly and replied, "Good morning to you too, Yugi.". She motioned her head, asking Yugi in body language if she could sit with him and watch the sunrise. He moved over and nodded his head. Smiling, she sat down next to the young man. "So, you couldn't get any sleep too?", Yugi asked her. Since he was out there, he assumed that she did not sleep well either. She shook her head and replied, "No, it's not that. I just love to see the sunrise early in the morning. I used to do that a lot as a child.". A slight breeze came in and it sent a slight shiver up Helena's body. On instinct, Yugi quickly wrapped his arms around Helena to try and keep her warm. It did the trick, but it also brought a pink blush to both people. Yugi realized on where his arms where around, and he quickly pulled them back. "Sorry.", he apologized while the pink blush was becoming quite prominent. Helena smiled and replied, "Its okay. No harm done.". The two then continued to stare out at the horizon, very much enjoying the tranquil scene and also the company. In fifteen minutes, the sun was nearly all the way up. Well, half-up to be precise. In any case, it was enough to light up the entire island and cast a warm glow on all it touched. "Helena?", Yugi asked. She looked at her companion and inquired, "Yes?". He asked, "Want to go back inside and have some breakfast with me?". Her smile widened slightly as she rose up slowly and said, "Why yes, Mr. Moto. I'd consider it an honor.". Yugi heard the playfulness in her voice, smiled as well, rose up and replied, "You do me such great honor, my Lady.". Both laughing softly, Yugi gathered up his towel and escorted the French opera singer/fighter back to the hotel.
The two were now dining in the grand dining hall, eating declious and well-prepared food. Yugi had pancakes, strawberries, some orange juice, and a glass of milk. Helena had some croissants, coffee, couple of oranges, and some pancakes too. As they ate, they made some light conversations. "So, Helena. Mind if I ask you something?", Yugi asked before he wolfed down some pancakes with his fork. Helena smiled slightly and replied, "Sure. Go ahead.". After drinking some orange juice, Yugi wiped his mouth with a napkin and asked, "What is it you like to do? Do you have any hobbies?". Helena was very much intrigued by Yugi's question, but she answered nonetheless. "Well, I love to swim in the ocean. Since I was a child, I always loved sea animals like dolphins and whales. So, I sometimes sneaked out to swim and play with them.", she started to say. Yugi smiled a warm one, him smiling because hearing Helena's favorite hobbies and pastimes were good to him. "I also love opera, so I decided to become one like my mother.", she continued on. Yugi beamed because he liked opera as well. Little did anyone, even Yami, knew that Yugi adored anything dramatic. He liked to listen to all kinds of music, but opera and all-music symphony were his favorite. He even listened multiple times to music from Pokemon The First Movie and Pokemon the Movie 2000! The song The Legend Comes To Life from the second movie soothed his soul and moved him very much. He then asked, "That sounds very interesting. Do you and your mother perform concerts together?". Helena's bright eyes then darkened considerably. She replied, "Used to. We were singing together at a very elegant theater in France, but… something happened.". Yugi then realized that he had moved into a very sensitive area. He asked quietly, "What happened?". She turned her head away, tears threating to come forth. She replied brokenly, "My mother… was assassinated. R-Right before m-my very eyes, and during a c-concert.". Yugi was very much shocked at this, and he showed it. Helena started to cry, the painful memory flooding into her mind.
Yugi got up from his seat and gently embraced his friend. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have brought it up.", he whispered to her. He felt really bad for bringing up such a bad memory. Helena shook her head slowly and replied, "Its okay. You didn't know.". He held her for some time until she stopped crying. He then released her, and Helena looked at him with grateful eyes. "Thank you, Yugi.". He smiled bashfully and replied, "No problem. Anything to cheer up and comfort a friend.". She was very grateful and relieved that Yugi considered her to be a friend. She then asked, "Uh, Yugi. Mind if I ask you something?". He shook his head and she inquired, "Do you like listening to opera music?". Yugi grinned and answered, "Yes, I do. Very much, in fact!". He told her he found it powerful, yet soothing as well. It moved his soul, and he enjoyed it greatly. Helena also smiled as she said, "Its good to see that there are still people out there who like opera.". Just then, seven other women entered the dining room. It was Kasumi, Ayane, Christie, Lei Fang, Hitomi, Tina, and Lisa. "Hey, everyone! Good morning!", Yugi greeted. They returned the gesture, but Ayane's hard gaze was on Helena. "Yugi? How long have you been down here?", the ninja girl asked. Yugi answered, "Since 6:30 a.m. I went outside to see the sunrise on the beach, and Helena decided to keep me company.". Ayane glared at the opera singer, whom glared right back. Lisa tried to calm the situation down. "Well, Helena. Thanks for keeping Yugi company!". She was nervous that Helena and Ayane might duke it out. Helena nodded curtly and replied, "My pleasure.". After that, everyone decided to join them for some welcoming and hot food.
~Three hours later~
Helena was walking on Private Beach, listening to the gentle waves of the sea and walking barefoot in the sand. She was wearing a pale white two-piece swimsuit, which accented her quite well. She sighed, wishing that Yugi was here to keep her company. Alas, there was another volleyball game on Bass Island and Yugi had to be referee again. "It's been just twenty minutes now, and I miss him.", she mused to herself. She soon decided to take her mind off the young Duelist by listening to the sea via a seashell. She saw a small, nearly perfect white conch shell near her feet. She bent down, picked it up, and put it near her ear. 'I haven't done this since I was a small child.', she mused as the sounds of the sea flowed smoothly into her ear. After a few moments, she felt a presence behind her. She stood up and looked behind her, to find a beaming Yugi peeking out from some of the rock outcroppings. "What? What are you doing here? I thought you were…", Helena started to say when Yugi chuckled. He replied, "I was at the volleyball game, but it ended a lot earlier then expected. I was trying to find you, now I have!". She was amused by Yugi's childlike playfulness in his voice, but she liked it anyways. "I was wondering about something.", he started to say. Helena sauntered over to the young man and inquired in French, "And that would be?". To her surprise, Yugi replied, "Would you like to sing some opera right now?". Helena was very much shocked to hear Yugi speaking in her native tongue. She exclaimed, "You know how to speak French?!". Yugi chuckled and replied, "Yes. I took an advanced Foreign Language course at my high school. I learned French, Japanese, English, and Spanish.". Helena was very much impressed that Yugi had learned so many different languages. She then remembered on what Yugi asked earlier. She answered, "Thanks for the information. Now, to your earlier question, yes I would like to sing some opera right now.". She then inquired, "But, how?". Yugi walked towards the beach standing by the shoreline. He replied, "Well, I'll use some magic to let nature give us a hand.". He saw her confused expression and explained that he had some magical residue from his trips into the Shadow Realm and coming into contact with the Millennium Items. "Just trust me on this one.", he said as he closed his eyes in concentration. Helena was very puzzled by this, but saw no reason not to trust Yugi. So, she situated herself behind the young man and started to warm-up her voice.
Yugi was in concentration, trying to find the magical residue that resided inside his body and bring it out. Soon, he was glowing a faint blue and he lifted his hands slowly in the air. Then, he started to move them slowly around like a conductor at a symphony. Helena then felt the wind whistle around through the trees, hearing flute music from them! Helena saw that Yugi wasn't joking when he said that nature was going to help out. He was calling forth the forces of nature to be the orchestra, and he was the conductor! The sea then started to shimmer and shine like lights, giving off harp-like sounds. The music was an Italian secular cantata, the song Begli occhi (Beautiful Eyes) by Barbara Strozzi. Helena then started to sing in a high soprano note, her voice now like an angel to Yugi. The wonderful sounds of the music and Helena combined to form a unique, soothing melody. It went on for about eight to nine minutes, Yugi showing signs of fatigue because of the energy leaving him. A moment later, it was over. Helena felt refreshed and content, not having singing opera in some time. "Well, what do you think of it, Yugi?", she asked as she opened her eyes. To her dismay, Yugi was panting hard and his hands were on his knees trying to stand up. "It was very good, Helena. You have a wonderful voice.", he breathed out. Then, Helena heard something peculiar coming from the woods. With incredible speed, something whizzed by her! She was able to hear the faint zinging sound when the object passed her. Yugi soon fell down on one knee, his energy nearly spent. Helena went to him and asked if he was okay. He gave her a faint smile and assured her that he was okay. "It… just took a lot out of me, controlling the magic. That's all.", he told her. He was also sure that there was now a miniscule of the magic left within him. Helena was pleased to see that he was okay, but then she saw something on a palm tree trunk that was near Yugi. She saw that three little, microscopic darts were embedded in the trunk. 'These were right in the line of Yugi's neck!', Helena thought worriedly. If Yugi had not kneeled down, the darts would have it him. She took the three out and tucked them carefully in her hand. She later helped Yugi to his feet and they both walked back to the hotel.
When they had arrived, they found the others lounging about at the Poolside. "Yugi, how about you go rest in the lobby? You have had a tiring day.", Helena suggested her friend gently. Yugi smiled faintly and nodded, walking slowly back inside the hotel. When she was sure he was gone, she gathered everyone around a deck table. "What happened to Yugi, Helena?", Kasumi inquired. Helena told them everything, and they were quite surprised to hear that Yugi manipulated nature to become a full symphony. Helena then showed them the darts that barely sailed past her and almost hitting Yugi. "Christie, can you examine on what they are and contain?", she asked her friend. Christie, being an assassin and all, was an expert at these types of things. She took a look at one of the darts, examined it, and gave out her conclusion. She told them, "These darts are coated with a very rare, paralyzing toxin. One of these darts could have paralyzed Yugi for about five days. If they had all hit…". She paused for a moment before finishing, "It would have put him in a coma for four weeks.". Helena was now thankful that Yugi exhausted himself so she could finish the song. If he hadn't kneeled at the right time, he would be out-cold for a long while. "Helena, did you see anyone around when these things were fired off?", Kasumi asked steadily. Ayane wanted so much to find the person responsible, and kick his or her butt good! Helena sadly shook her head and answered, "No. I did not see anyone there. It must have been shot off from the jungle.". Tina punched her fists in her open palm and stated, "We watch Yugi like a hawk from now on! If we let him alone for one minute, that person hired by Zack could strike!". They all agreed with her on that. Quickly realizing that they had left Yugi alone, they all ran back inside the hotel to make sure he was okay. When they arrived in the lobby, they found the young man asleep on one of the plush chairs. Smiling down at the handsome, considerate man, they sat down with him and watched over him.
~In the jungle~
A young male dressed in Army-like camouflage took out a walkie-talkie and reported, "Sorry, sir. Yugi was not hit. He is still alive.". The other man on the line, Zack, exclaimed, " No excuses, man! Either you finish the job today, or you won't get paid! Understand?!". The man grunted and replied, "Understood, sir. Hawk out.". The man then put up the walkie-talkie and concentrated on how he was going to finish the job. 'Those girls probably know on what is on those darts right now. Man, this won't be easy.', the hitman mused.
~Back in Domino City~
Seto was at his company, making decisions and also testing new Dueling equipment. Just then, his Rolex watch beeped and he pushed a small gold button on the side of it. The clock face slid away, revealing a small monitor. He whispered, "Yes, Peorth and Laga?". Peorth's face showed on the screen and her voice stated, "Seto, another attempt on Yugi was made. Fortunately, it was thwarted. He is safe.". Laga's angry voice came up, "The attack was with paralyzing poison darts, which could have put Yugi in a coma! I already told Cas this, and she is really upset here!". Seto thanked them for the info, signed off, and put his watch back on normal mode. He thought, 'This is getting out of hand! First, Yami and the others have found a way to get to that island, and now this! Heh, Yugi. You and danger go together in a tight package.'. He then walked towards the Board Room, knowing the situation would have to wait for a while. Things were now heating up big time on the island!
(Author's Notes: So, how was this? Sorry if the language part fell short, but I had to make do somehow! If any of you can help Yugi with French, let me know.
Yugi: Yeah, I could use a little refresher course here. (Smiles sheepishly and scratches back of head)
Darien: Don't worry, Yugi. You did great for a first timer, and also good with the magic and music! Way to go!
R&R, no flames, and enjoy!)
