Hi all! *Phantomness waves* Disclaimer: Yu-gi-Oh! Belongs to Kazuki Takashi. I own this fic. That’s all that matters, right? Oh, and I’m a broke college student who is not making any money whatsoever off this writing so please don’t sue me!
Chapter 11               ; Now that five had been assigned… what left two? Gluttony…. And Wrath.             Akunadin may have made a decent Wrath, but he was now dead and Bakura possessed the Eye.             There were the Scales and the Ankh left...             But was it wise to change Shadah and Karim? Perhaps not, perhaps yes, but the choices was upon them soon, and in any case, they would just have to wait and see…           &nbs p; Personally, Mahaado thought Karim might be unfit for this position, but… they were testing in secret.             Well, whoever did not fall prey to the red water would live… and become more…            &n bsp;  “Well, it was to be expected.” Yami said dryly as a strange ‘plague’ struck the palace not days later. Shadah was perfectly well, if a bit dazed.             His eyes took on their odd bluish hue after he became Wrath… why Wrath? Perhaps it was his dedication to the throne, but without Set around he was really the most warlike of all. He would go to war for Egypt.             The others wouldn’t quite do that. Subterfuge and assassinations… but yes, different strengths, different specialties made an excellent court.             All in all, Pharaoh’s court had to be somewhat balanced after all, to endure into the future. Mere power was never enough. One also needed strategy and luck.             Luck…           &nb sp; Would Gluttony bring them luck, then?             &n bsp; “Who has luck?”           &n bsp; Mahaado gave Yami a strange look. “Luck?”          & nbsp;  “Yes, luck, Mahaado. It’s not just skill and strategy that we need to rule our kingdom. Luck wouldn’t hurt.”           &n bsp; “No, I suppose it wouldn’t….” The mage purred as the Pharaoh took him in his arms. “But now I wonder…”              “You can wonder later.” Yami whispered, drawing Mahaado down into another kiss. The priest laughed inwardly. To think that it was so simple….              So convenient that our desires coincide, is it not, Pharaoh…?            ;  Oh, make no mistake of my intentions. I shall be loyal to you for eternity. It is simply so much more fun this way…            &nb sp;  Djou was nervous. After all, he was but a mere guard in the palace, and when things like assassinations and dark magic happened on a near daily basis, it made the mere mortals feel uncomfortable and rather incompetent. Cannon fodder, really…           & nbsp; He hadn’t done anything wrong, had he?             Why did the Pharaoh want to summon him for an audience then?             &n bsp; Djou was no fool. He knew that the Prince, er, Pharaoh now, was not wise to cross, but he didn’t think he’d made any large blunders…            ;  So why was he being summoned to the throne room?             Or maybe it was… maybe they had found out about the small Ka he harbored inside his heart. But he was no criminal, truly he wasn’t!           & nbsp; It wasn’t an evil spirit…           & nbsp;             He watched as the doors to the throne room slid open. No, what was he thinking? It wasn’t the throne room. It was the middle of the night and he was… gulp, being summoned to the Pharaoh’s private chambers. Djou began to sweat nervously. It couldn’t be… could it? He had heard a rumor that the Pharaoh preferred men – um, well, not a rumor ever since he had taken High Priest Mahaado as his consort, but…           &nbs p; Surely the Pharaoh didn’t want him to…?           &nbs p; He wiped moist palms on his kilt as he stepped inside. There, he saw several familiar faces. High Priest Shadah, High Priestess Aishizu, High Priestess Mana, High Priest Mahaado, the Pharaoh himself…              What was going on? Why was he… they weren’t going to assassinate him, were they?             Djou took deep breaths not to panic, sank to his needs, and muttered the proper greetings.            &nb sp;  “Rise.” Yami said, watching Djou intently. <So he is the one? >             Aishizu gave a brief inclination of her head, barely perceptible. < He is the one my necklace had led us to. >             < Well, far be it form us to question the powers of the Sennen Tauk. > Mahaado rejoined. Shadah nodded. The Tauk had never led them wrong… always showed the future clearly…              Aishizu had no reason to betray them.             She looked at Shadah a bit nervously, and he found himself smiling back. Karim had fallen, so perhaps… she might have feelings for him?             They were still human in one way – they could still feel.            & nbsp;  Yami nodded. “Mahaado, shall we?” The High Priest rose from his seat and held out his hand. There was something glowing in it, like rubies…           & nbsp; Before Djou quite knew what was happening he had gotten out of his respectful crouching bow and grabbed whatever it was. Then, he’d started eating it. By the time his brain caught up with him, he had already consumed everything…          &nb sp;  Yami smirked. “Well, that was easy enough to determine, wasn’t it?”           &nbs p; Shadah nodded as they continued to scrutinize him.             Djou’s stomach rumbled, a strange thing…  of course, he was perpetually hungry, but now of all times...!             ; Djou colored and immediately began apologizing, only to find that no one seemed interested in reprimanding him.             What on earth…?                < It is completed. >             < This will be interesting…. I suppose he should have the Scales then? >             < No. > Yami said. < Shadah… >             < Yes? >             < You have always been more at home with the Scales than with the Ankh, have you not? >             < My Pharaoh is ever observant and wise. >             < Then you shall have the Sennen Scales, and Djou shall hold the Ankh in his possession. >             Djou looked up as he was helped to his feet. “H-High Priestess Mana?”           &n bsp; The girl, more girl than woman, smiled at him, but it wasn’t a cheerful smile. “Welcome, Djou, new Priest of the Sennen Ankh.”           &n bsp; “Huh? What? Wait! Doesn’t Shadah have the Ankh?”           &n bsp; He watched as the turbaned priest removed the Ankh from its cord, taking up the Scales instead. Talk about odd…           &nbs p; Well, whatever. He didn’t know why the Pharaoh was suddenly making him a High Priest, but he was Pharaoh…              “I look forwards to seeing your Red-Eyes in battle… Djou.”           &n bsp; Huh? How had the Pharaoh known about the Red-Eyes Black dragon he carried? High Priestess Aishizu smiled fondly at him and tapped her Tauk with one hand.             Oh…             ; Well, since High Priest Karim was dead, they were finding someone with a strong Ka to become the new High Priest? That made sense…           &n bsp; But he had no learning…  but as he picked up the Ankh and felt it nestle against his chest, there was a strange sensation of… belonging…          &nbs p;  Interesting.   End Chapter Completed 10/12/05 Djou = Joey, kk? I can’t remember his Japanese name… Jounichi Katsuya…            &nbs p;               ;             & nbsp;            &nb sp;             &nbs p;               ;                             & nbsp;
