Across The Stars

Chapter 10: The only one who understands my guilt. The...semi-final explanation, and how'd you get so smart?

 

~Maxine's P.o.V.~

I'd let go of Jake for the time being so he could go and get something to eat with all of us. Kim and Jon had decided to go with him. Sarah and Mayank had gone for a drive or a walk to go look for Meg. The other Kim and Seto Kaiba had gone and left a few hours ago, to a hotel. The other Meg and Sarah were asleep on both of the couches with Jack Sparrow and Will Turner looking through mine and Kim's collection of college kid foods. That left me, curled up on my bed, feeling alone and violated with InuYasha and the other me, just sitting on a chair and watching me. And watching.

And watching.

Until, me being me, I snapped.

"What the fuck are you staring at?!" I yelled at them, sitting up abruptly and glaring at them viciously. InuYasha perked a brow, muttering,"I save your ass and this is how you repay me?" with a roll of the eyes. "You didn't 'save my ass'," I replied cockily. "He switched us back when we were desperate and confused," the other me said sternly, glaring. "You shut up, you broke my boyfriend's heart, so I'd shut the fuck up," I said viciously. I then realized I was just arguing with myself and calling myself a bitch. "You realize you're just arguing with yourself and calling yourself a bitch," the other me said bluntly. I blinked. She blinked back. I sighed and shook my head. InuYasha shrugged and began pacing the room, leaving the other me alone in silence. "Listen...we're in this together...this happened to all of us..." the other me said softly,"We're as confused as everyone else..." She was so...calm...so mellow and unscathed, it seemed. "How can you act like that?" I asked. "Like what?" she asked calmly. "Like...that. You act so calm...like you're in control of situations so..." I tried to find the right thing to say. "So unlike you?" she asked. "But you are me..." I whispered. "I broke free before you..." she said softly,"...you put up with the abuse longer without like...killing yourself or something...like we always said we'd do, if we never got out of there..." she whispered, looking at me in the eyes,"In ways, more than we can both understand...you're stronger than I'll ever be." I was stunned...she may be the only person who'd ever understand me...she broke free before me, but I was stronger somehow? Seemed impossible... "How long has it been...since you talked to our family?" I asked quietly. Her gaze lowered and her face hardened,"...I still feel guilty...for walking away from them...it'd been two years, I think..." she said, barely audible. "That guilt never seems to die, no matter how hard it was for us..." I whispered. She nodded slightly, a tear flowing down her face,"I fucking hate that feeling of guilt...at times, I feel like I shouldn't have left them, because I was supposed to put up with it..." she said, anger ringing in her voice. She looked back up to me,"It's fucked up, I even feel guilt when I talk to you about it," she whispered. "...It shouldn't even be spoken of...it hurts too much..." I said. She nodded again, shaking her head.

Kim, Jon, Sarah, Mayank, Meg, Jake and...another dude all walked in just then. Jake smiled over at me, holding up a bag of take-out food,"Hungry?" he asked. I nodded lightly and got out of my bed, walking to him and hugging him around the waist, resting my head on his chest. "Who are you?" I asked the dude who was ...about to kiss Meg. He blinked,"Cat...or Maxine?" he asked. I returned the blink, and then glanced from Meg to this dude,"...no...way...Online Jack?!" I asked. He laughed,"Yea...online Jack, that's the name..." he said, hugging Meg. She looked...stunned and happy all at once. "So...where were you guys?" I asked curiously.

Meg blushed then said,"You and Jake have snuck off together before..." Jake gave me a light squeeze and I looked up at him. His face was red as he smiled at me, brushing my cheek lightly,"You're blushing..." he whispered, kissing my cheek as well. I brushed my lips along his neck softly, below his ear before whispering back,"So are you..." He hugged me close to him as we all sat around the smallish dorm room eating the take-out. Jake and me ate some pizza, snuggled up on my bed, me sitting half on top of him. Kim and Jon were throwing the take-out Chinese at each other. Meg and Jack were...digging through the mini fridge. Sarah and Mayank were sitting cross legged on the floor in front of the couch, holding hands. The other Sarah and the Will Turner were sitting on the couch, next to the other Meg and the Jack Sparrow. The other me was pelting InuYasha with leftover pizza crusts, a smile on her face. It seemed...normal-ish. It was odd, but we'd actually became...comfortable a bit? Even though...we were kinda with ourselves?

Jake nudged me in the back, tickling my foot with his,"So...you haven't quite explained..." he said softly in my ear, trying to be heard over the talking voices and the Cradle of Filth that both Meg's had decided to put on. I leaned over to talk near his ear,"It's...confusing. I don't know what happened anymore...I think I screwed up though, Jake...one of me, did...something like a time split...a...the InuYasha called it a realm split..." I said. He nodded, as if actually understanding. It was confusing though. "So...it...definately wasn't you...when you hung up on me...or she did?" he asked, gesturing over to the other me, who was laughing with InuYasha and the other Meg, then leaning over and kissing InuYasha. He looked at the other me as she kissed him then looked at me and smiled lightly. I smiled back, whispering,"I'd never do anything to hurt you, Jake...I love you, okay?" He nodded, kissing me,"Love you too..." he whispered, nudging my foot again.

~Dun dun dun...ready to be ultimately confused and such? The OTHER Max's P.o.V.~

I broke mine and InuYasha's kiss, smiling. I barely glanced over towards the...other me, sitting with her boyfriend, Jake. Her face was still a bit tear streaked. I realized...she still had that pain that I'd just let go of. I was happy where I was now and she was still a bit trapped. It was...weird how different we actually were. InuYasha poked me lightly, smirking,"What're you looking at?" he asked. I glanced back at him, smiling,"Nothing...just...thinking," I replied,"So...explain everything to me again?" I asked over the loud music. The door opened and in walked my Kim and Kaiba. She walked straight for me and InuYasha,"Hey, dog-boy, we really have to get back to...our realm, whatever..." she said instantly, looking worried. Kaiba sat down next to her, nodding. "What's wrong?" I asked. "Kim had...a..." Kaiba started hesitantly. "I had a dream, with Reika and Aerylis..." she snapped,"So, InuYasha, explain now." I stood up,"Meg!" I yelled over the music. Both of them turned,"Yea?" they asked. "Uh...turn...off the music?" I asked. "Cradle of Filth owns my..." they both started and laughed lightly, turning off their music. "So...what's going on..?" the...other me asked softly as everyone just sat in silence for a moment. I nudged InuYasha and he coughed,"Uh...we...obviously can't stay around here. Basically...you guys want an explanation..." he said. "And a fucking way to get back," my Kim said.

"And a way to get back..." InuYasha agreed, nodding,"So...in short terms...we, as in me and my Maxine and our...versions of friends, are a...fake realm. One that shouldn't have existed. A dream realm, I guess. You guys..." he said this, gesturing to our doubles,"...are the real realm. You live in actual time and reality. You live with what actually happened. The two Maxine's switched because there was a time skip again. The first time skip happened when me, Jack, Will and Kaiba came to the real realm. It split the realms and made two. So even though we first came to the real Kim, Max, Meg and Sarah...it split to create another realm of time. We turned out to be in that realm. And the real Kim, Max, Meg and Sarah stayed in real time, as if nothing happened. The second time skip happened when...when Naraku...kidnapped my Max...along with Meg and Jack. The time skip though, had to catch up with itself, I guess.So basically...things were...frozen. Until Naraku showed up at the frat party, Kim and Max...it switched the Maxine's around when time caught up to meet up where it'd frozen...so now, we're stuck. Time is frozen in our realm, back to where we're just about to go to the frat party. The only way to fix it is go to that same frat party in this realm and...basically, so to speak, kill Naraku," he finished breathlessly.

Everyone was silent. My mind was reeling...then the other Kim, not mine, spoke up,"Um...okay...I watch the show and such...when the fuck did you get so smart, mutt?" she asked. I laughed lightly, it was very Kim of her to do that. My Kim cracked a small smile and muttered,"So...we get to crash a frat party in a frozen time realm..." she said. I smirked back at her,"Hell yes, buddy," I said, chuckling. Jack, as in Jack Sparrow coughed,"I...understood some of that, mate...and I think we're all a bit...crazy. And we need to fix it, so I'm in on this frat party and however it'll work," he said. My Meg nodded,"Aye, I am too," she said. "Aye," the other Meg agreed, nudging her Jack who mumbled,"Aye aye..."

"Aye..." the Kim's chorused. Kaiba barely mumbled it. "Eh...aye?" Jon said. The other me looked at me as Jake shrugged as well, in agreement as he said,"I do whatever and go whereever my Maxine goes..." She smiled slightly, still looking at me as she spoke up,"Aye on our behalf then...I'm in on whatever it takes." I turned to InuYasha,"So...my smart dog...aye?" I asked. "Aye," he replied

We were all in...

"So...InuYasha, I love you, but how DID you get so smart with all of that?" I asked.

 

~Baha...yea...you know you love the confusion I created. Smart InuYasha...fear his dog brain. And...stuff.

Meh, I'm writing this at a bad time and such...but...hopefully it shall cheer people up? Including me, meh...
