Bottle of Rum, Pills and Fate

Chapter 7: Just One More Fight, She's awake, stupidity and apologies, going home

 

~InuYasha's P.o.V....someone had to take the place of me, Maxine, right?~

The florescent lights of the ICU lobby waiting room were blinding. Everyone else had drifted to sleep. Kim was curled up with Kaiba's arms around her tightly, Meg was sprawled across two chairs somehow, her head in Jack's lap and Sarah and Will were in one chair together, Sarah curled up slightly in Will's lap. I shivered a bit and glanced up at the wall clock. 11:59 PM. A laughter reel played on the T.V. overhead. I sighed and closed my eyes, my ears listening for anything. I fell asleep I guess because a bit later someone tapped me lightly. I groaned and tried to roll over, ending up on the floor out of the chair. I opened my eyes and looked up at Kim. "Were you poking me?" I asked. She nodded a bit,"You...you were screaming...shouting stuff..." she said, sitting down as I got up to my feet. I glanced up at the clock. "2:30..." Kim mumbled. I nodded and sat down, putting my head in my hands. "InuYasha...I know it's not like we're best friends anymore or anything...and me and you...aren't really friends but...do...do you know if Max said anything...like...clued you in...if she was going to do something like this?" she asked. I glanced up at her,"Don't you think if she said something I would react, Kim? Don't you think I would've realized if my wife was an addict or an alcoholic?!" my voice raised a bit. She yelled back,"You were the one who said you DIDN'T realize it until you found her fuckin' passed out on the goddamn kitchen floor!" I lowered my gaze to the floor, my eyes close,"Shut up Kim..." I whispered. "No InuYasha, tell me!" she said. I stood up and threw my chair across the lobby floor,"I DON'T KNOW! I DIDN'T KNOW! I DIDN'T PAY ATTENTION!" I screamed at her. Everyone jumped awake and looked at us. Kim stood up,"...and you wonder why she's in a coma in there?!" she yelled. "SHUT THE FUCK UP!" I screamed, clenching my fists. She glared and yelled,"DON'T FUCKING TALK TO ME LIKE THAT MUTT, WHY DIDN'T YOU FUCKING PAY ATTENTION?!" I started towards her, yelling,"SHUT UP!" Kaiba stepped in my way, pushing me away. I pushed him back, making him fall. "STOP IT!" Meg yelled as Kaiba tripped me and punched me in the face. Sarah let out a scream as my nose started bleeding. I pushed him off and punched him in the stomach, knocking the wind out of him. "STOP IT BOTH OF YOU!" Kim yelled loudly. She was helping Kaiba up while Jack, Meg, Will and Sarah looked at me and Kaiba in shock. "Maxine is fucking lying, passed out in a coma! And we're fighting like this...for God's sake, we're acting like shit to each other, we're fucking punching each other in school and hospitals?! What the fuck?!" Meg yelled. I swallowed and sat down, tilting my head back to stop the blood flow from my nose. Kaiba's breathing was heavy. Sarah was crying again. I closed my eyes and stood up, walking out of the lobby. "Where are you going?!" Kim snapped. I turned to look at her. She backed up a bit and cleared her throat,"I meant...are...are you leaving now..?" I sighed and shook my head,"I...would never leave my wife...NEVER...I love her to death...no matter what...I...will never get distracted from her life because her life is mine..." I said. I started walking out and bumped into the nurse,"She's half awake and her breathing is stronger, Mr. InuYasha..." she said quickly. "Can we see her?" Kim asked hurriedly, stepping in front of me. The nurse looked at me,"No, only relatives, ma'am," she replied curtly. "BUT WE ARE FUCKING RELATIVES!" Kim shouted. I pulled her back a bit,"I'll tell you everything..." I said, walking down the hall with the nurse. "Visiting hours will be in the morning at 9 AM, ma'am..." the nurse said as she shut the lobby doors. Curses and loud swears echoed down the halls and then more yelling. I sighed, sticking my hands in my pockets as we walked.

"Here's her room...she'll be a bit groggy and she did do a lot of physical damage as you said, her ankle is twisted and her wrist broken along with some scars on her arms and wrists ...most of which we suspect are from falling..." she said, leading me into the room. She smiled a bit and I turned away from the bed to look at the nurse,"Can those kinds of damages be done from falling in a one story apartment..?" I asked, in a whisper. She smiled in a sad kind of way,"..no sir...not as serious as hers...we don't know what she fell down, but she's pretty messed up, I must say for lack of better words..." she replied,"I'll leave you two alone..." and she left the room, shutting the door. I stayed still, listening to the beeping of the machines and the now steady breathing of my wife. I walked towards her bed and kissed her forehead, sitting down on a chair and holding her hand. She opened her eyes a bit and I stroked her hair,"Hey babe..." I whispered. She looked into my eyes,"W-where am I InuYasha..." she asked. I forced a smile,"You're in the hospital, Maxine...you had a pretty bad spill I guess..." I didn't say anything about the alcohol or drugs. "...I remember..." she said, softly. I stroked her hair and kissed her forehead,"Don't worry, babe...don't worry..." I whispered. I talked to her softly, she just sat there and listened. I told her how everyone had come to see her. Tears streaked down her face and she drifted back to sleep after awhile. I stayed up with her small hand in mine. Her face was so pale, she looked so beautiful it was haunting...like an angel. She had an i.v. in her arm and was hooked up to a bunch of different monitors. I fell asleep again, the image of her lying in the bed, helpless stuck in my mind.

My eyes were still closed but I could hear voices as I struggled to wake up. "..she looks so sick..." It sounded like Sarah, her voice was shaky with fear. "Well, of course Sarah...I mean she o/d'd and passed out drunk and apparently fell down a flight of stairs or something..." Meg said in a loud whisper. "If you three start fucking arguing again..." I muttered, opening my eyes as Sarah and Kim opened their mouths to argue back to Meg. They closed their mouths and looked at me, as if amazed. I looked back to Maxine. She was awake with her eyes closed. "Open your eyes..." I whispered, kissing her forehead. She smiled lightly and opened them, speaking up,"Meg, how'd you know then?" she asked, looking at Meaghan. Meg blinked,"What..?" she asked. "You said I fell down a flight of stairs...how'd you know, did I fall by myself or did you witness it or did you push me?" Max replied, a bit of a tired smirk on her face. "..no.." Meg muttered. "So, you fell down a flight of stairs?" Kim asked, walking to Max's bedside. I leaned back, my hand still holding onto Maxine's. She shrugged in reply to Kim's question. "Damn, lass...tha's quite..." Jack muttered. "Awful?" Will and Kaiba finished for him. Sarah nodded,"That...that is awful Max..." she said. "Yea...explain anyway, hun...what the fuck were you thinking?!" Kim spoke up, her voice raising. I glared at her,"Shut up Kim..." I muttered, clenching my fist. Kaiba walked over to Kim and put his hand on her shoulder. Anger rose in me and I held Max's hand tighter. "You're squeezing my hand..." she whispered. I looked at her and released her hand,"Sorry..." I whispered back. "Yea apoligize for not paying attention, InuYasha..." Kim said. I opened my mouth but Maxine held her hand up to me and spoke to Kim instead. I leaned back and listened, my arms crossed. If anyone said anything about me again...

~Maxine's P.o.V....yay no longer gone!~

"So...what the fuck were you thinking, Maxine Lisa when you took perc and codeine with...what was it? Rum, vodka, daiquiri? Beer? Whiskey? Hmm? What the fuck were you fucking thinking?" Kim asked, in a mocking voice. I closed my eyes,"I...don't have to answer that..." I whispered. "Yes, you do, Max..." Meg said. "Meaghan...okay do you have to answer this? What the fuck were you thinking when you were such a bitch? Sarah, what were you thinking when you believed the dumbest shit on earth when I was fucking drunk? Kim, what were you thinking the whole entire time, trying to get us back together?" I replied, tears were stinging my eyes again,"What the fuck was I thinking? I was lost at that time because apparently, I wasn't fucking thinking at all..." Everyone but InuYasha looked shocked. InuYasha wasn't looking at me, but his brow was furrowed as if he were thinking. "You did it because..." he said softly,"...because no one cares..." I finished with him. "Exactly..." I whispered, looking at him. "I care..." he said. "So do we, Maxine...I mean, what the fuck, seriously...Do NOT ask us those questions...we didn't fall down a flight of stairs and end up in a coma, found passed out on a kitchen floor...do not tell us we don't care when all of us are standing here, and for what now, to listen to you ask us questions about ourselves...you want to know what I was thinking?!" Kim shouted at me. I smirked,"Exactly..." I said again. Meg spoke up,"You're fucked, Maxine...you are so fucked because you are obviously so full of yourself...you did this to make us get back together now...what if all of us are happy alone?!" she shouted too. I looked straight at her,"...I'm full of myself if I got high and drunk and fell down a flight of stairs for you...and I'm the one who's fucked...I'm fucked because I couldn't stand it, all of it, being alone...because it's just like I said, no one cares..." I said. Sarah was crying. Then again, so was I, Meg and Kim. Kim collapsed in a chair, shaking a bit. Meg was leaning against the wall, her black eyeliner running a bit down her face. Sarah silently cried, Will hugging her. "I did it because...I didn't care...I did it because my life was hurt and...no one payed attention...so I was hurt..." I whispered. "You could've called, sweety...you know I would've listened...I would've helped..." Kim said. "I couldn't...because if I didn't care I sure as hell didn't think you would..." I replied. "Well you didn't think for sure then, Max..." Meg said, wiping her eyes,"Because I did care...and I was a bitch...sorry..." Kim spoke up,"Sorry I didn't think either..." Sarah wiped her eyes,"Sorry I believed everything I heard..." she said. I smiled a bit, tears running down my cheeks,"Sorry I was such an idiot...and, bleh, so...much love in here...group hug, might as well eh?" I said. We laughed and we all somehow hugged with me in the middle on the bed. InuYasha smirked,"So...do I get any love?" he asked. I leaned over a bit and kissed him. Kaiba picked up Kim and said,"Let's leave them alone and see when she can get out..." Meg jumped on Jack's back,"To the vending machines!" she said. Sarah hugged me again and Will whispered something to her about food or whatnot and they left the room to wander off to the vending machines as well. I smiled and InuYasha took my hand,"...and I'm sorry for not paying attention..." he whispered. I nodded, blinking back tears,"Tis okay...I love you..." I whispered back. He kissed me on the lips,"Love you too..." I sighed and sat there in silence with him. He drifted off to sleep in the chair again. "Ma'am?" a voice said from the door. I turned my head, it was the nurse. "Morning visiting hours are over but you are free to go this afternoon...your tests should be developed by then..." she said kindly. I nodded slightly,"What are the tests supposed to show?" I asked. InuYasha muttered sleepily and moved a bit. She smiled,"Just to see if your blood stream is clear of the alcohol and drug poison...your doctor should be in shortly and also is scheduling some rehabilitation classes for you," she replied professionally. I turned to look out the window,"Alright..." I said. She left the room and InuYasha stirred a bit. "Hey..." he said, kissing me. I smiled, kissing back. "I'm free to go...this afternoon anyway, and the doctor's going to put me through rehab I guess..." I said. He smiled a bit,"I'm going to tell the others that you can get out...and then I'll come back after the doctor is done with whatever he needs to tell you?" he asked. I nodded and he stood up, walking out the door. A bit later the doctor came in,"Alright, ma'am...we're going to put you through rehabilitation so something like this doesn't happen again...your tests did show an excessive amount of drugs and alchohol and the rehabilitation course is for teenagers just like you..." he said, a mock, completely fake smile on his face. I nodded,"Am I free to go then?" I asked. "Yes, you are by three this afternoon, three more hours just to make sure you're running fine and everything," he replied. So it was three hours later when I was completely unhooked from any fucking equipment, dressed in jeans and my smartass t-shirt that said,'I'm a smart ass...and if you believe that you're a dumbass'...off to home it was.

The drive was normal. InuYasha drove and I just turned up the radio, staring out the window. Kim and Kaiba were following us while Meg, Jack, Sarah and Will ran to get some take-out for all of us. They apparently thought it was a celebration that I was back home and that we were friends again. "So, I was thinking, we could take a trip somewhere, like Florida or down to the Carribean, modern times this time eh?" InuYasha asked, turning down the stereo. I shrugged,"Can we afford to take off work that long?" I asked. "Don't worry about that...don't stress about anything...we'll make time to spend together, how about that?" he said. I nodded a bit and we drove on, to our apartment. He parked the car with Kim and Kaiba parking beside us. "Looks the same as the other one...all the same, right Max?" Kim asked, smiling lightly. I smiled back,"Of course..." so we walked in, joined a bit later by Meg, Sarah, Jack and Will. Everything was the same again...right?

~Hah, we're back together...and I'm back for good. And...since I never said this before, this is entirely fictional I would never drink THAT MUCH alcohol and pop a bunch of pills at the same time. So yea, I'm not that stupid...o.O; even though it was me in the story...meh, I wouldn't do it though. But...am I right? All the same? til' next time...~
