Chapter Three
Unforgettable Memories
Yugi kept his distance from Seto for the rest of the day. The brown hared boy looked absolute piss, growling at anyone who came near. Tea sat across from Yugi looking at her lunch with confused eyes. Joey just stared into space as Bukura bit into a cheese sandwich. He stared at it for a wail when Emily came over to them. No one noticed.
"Mind if I sit with you?" She asked. Tristan nodded. "Why is everyone so surprised over Kari?"
"She never told anyone," Yugi replied as he looked at his cards.
"Sure you've heard about Daisy?" Emily replied and received odd looks from the group.
"Daisy?"
"She hasn't even said her name?" Emily asked shocked. "She really hasn't told you anything. Daisy was her older sister,"
Kari sat up on top of the school roof. She saw Emily talking to her friends, telling them her life story. She then looked at Seto. She could practically see the thunderstorm over his head. Once the bells rung for class to start, Kari headed home. People stared muttering things, but she didn't care. She thought of the past.
"Shouldn't you tell them? I mean Molly is their mother,"
"Dr. Lura, its Kari's birthday! I don't want to tell it to her right today,"
"She'll find out John. I know you don't believe me but stuff like this can have more damage of a child if they find out by themselves then if you tell them,"
"I know what I'm doing!"
"Who's there? John Kari's at the door,"
"Dear God,"
"I told you no swimming in the creek! Alligators are there. They would eat you alive!"
"But nothing happen!"
"DON'T TALK BACK TO ME KARI!"
Kari covered her cheek. The horrible memories of a two-year-old were still fresh in her mind. Her dad struggled to keep it together, but alcohol got the best of him in the end. Back then, Kari sot refuge in her uncle. He was always ready to hug and kiss her, to make all the bad things go away. Kari remembered the Sidney Police Station all too well. Daisy was a quiet girl and never broke the rules. She would talk back but that was pretty much it. As for herself, well, the teacher's at Sidney Elementary suspected child abuse. Stopping Kari looked around and closed her eyes.
"Remember Kari," She told herself. "Remember!"
`Smack!
`" Awa!"
"Let that be a lesson to yah! Go to your room!"
"I hate you!" Runs outside.
"Get back in here Kari or I swear I bet the living daylights out of you!"
"Kari!"
"Uncle Max!"
"Kari, what are you doing out here? Your father is worried about you? What happen to your cheek?"
"Daddy hit me. I hate him. He always favors Daisy. I wish they were dead!"
Kari's opened her eyes and gasped. She covered her mouth as she sat down and cried. An elder woman looked at her.
"What's wrong dear?"
It's all my fault," Kari whispered and the woman patted her on the back. "It's my fault Daisy and Mommy and Daddy are gone,"
"Don't be silly child," The woman said in a comforting voice. "Death takes anyone, no matter how young or how old. It's no one fault,"
"If only you knew miss," Kari thought as she continued home. "If only you knew,"
