Chapter Seven

Surprise

Kari opened her eyes slowly. Her body hurt all over as if someone had whipped her with a nine-tailed cat. (It's a type of whip, for those of you who don't know) Kari felt the cold wind play with her long hair. Why did she feel so weak? She groaned as she tugged at her arm to brush the hair in her eyes away. Why couldn't she move her arm? Kari snapped awake and looked around. Where was she? What happened? Kari looked up to see her hand cuffed to a long chain hanging in the ceiling. What was Pegasus's game? Kari tugged at the chain violently when she heard a door open. Quickly, she pretended to still be unconscious. She knew two of the voices, Emily and Pegasus, but the third one.

"So," Pegasus replied in a casual way. "Are you sure you can take on Yugi Mutou, if he even comes,"

"Yugi has… feelings for her," The third person said in a disgusted way. "I would be surprised if he didn't,"

"Do I know that voice?" Kari wrenched her mind, trying hard to match the voice with someone, anyone.

"Are you sure he'll find that dream book of yours?" Emily asked annoyed. They were coming closer.

"Yugi and Seto know Kari well enough to know she would never go here on free will or stay for the matter," the voice said coldly. "The phone call will defiantly bring them,"

"Ah! Let's see how the captive is doing," Pegasus called out, almost getting Kari to jump. She could hear him breathing in her face.

"Oh gross! Dog breath! Or is it onion? Being Pegasus, properly both!"

"That's a rather rude thought!" Pegasus growled as he stroke her on the side of the head. Kari leaded back, releasing her leg to kick him. A strong blow in the stomach sent him backwards, gasping for air.

"Daddy!" Emily cried.

"Rather stupid move don't you think?" A voice replied in the shadows. "I mean, you know you're making things even more worse then they already are!"

"Who are you?" Kari demanded.

"Then again," The person continued ignoring Kari's questions. "You have always done the most dumbest things possible. Running away from two homes now, going to the school when you should have been in bed sleeping. Heck, you even kept secrets from your friends,"

"How do you…" Kari asked again, a little fear trembled in her voice.

"Oh! I shouldn't forget about your crush on Yugi… or is it Yami? Who cares!" That voice started to sound more and more known to Kari, like she had heard it all her life. "He probably hates your guts now, being related to Pegasus. Now what else can be on that list…? Oh yeah! Getting Daisy and Daddy killed!"

Kari gasped. She had to ask, but she derided the answer. "Who the hell are you?"

"Who knows you better then anyone else?" The person laughed evilly.

"No! IT CAN'T Be MHPHM…!" Kari screamed when someone gagged her. Pegasus stood behind her, tying the cloth before striking her hard in the back of the neck.

"Come on!" The girl replied annoyed. "We have a puzzle and vengeance to claim,"

They left her there. In the cold, dark dungeon, bleeding from newly cut wounds. In the few moments before the pain and exhaustion over came her, Kari started to cry.

"It's my fault! It's my entire fault! He set the trap and I fell for it. My monster has won and so has the demon in me!"

"I don't like this Yugi," Tea replied as she looked at the tall building. "This place gives me the creeps!"

"BOO!" Yami Bukura cried making Tea scream and jump into Seto's strong-arms. "MUHAHAHA!"

"You are so immature!" Bukura snarled at dark half.

"Are not!"

"Are too!"

"Are not!"

"Are too!"

"Are not!"

"Are too!"

"Are not!"

"Are too!"

"Normally! I would find this weird," Seto muttered to himself as he set Tea down.

"Sorry!" Tea replied as she started to blush. She had a huge crash on him.

"So," Joey asked as Bukura argued with himself in the background. "How do we get in?"

"I think if we climb the wall," Yami started out with his plane. "And are really quiet…"

"Hey guys!" Yugi called. "I think if we…"

"Not now Yugi!" Yami scowled. "As I was saying, then if we run across the lawn and they don't have dogs, we brake in the window…"

"Or we could just ring the doorbell!" Yugi cried out, pointing at a buzzed near the gates. "I mean it could save us some time,"

Yami blushed in embarrassment. "Well, it isn't as James Bond like, but… sure,"

"You stink at lying Yami!" Yugi whispered under his breath.

"Shut up!" Yami growled.

"Come in Yugi," Pegasus replied over the intercom. "We have been waiting for you and your… friends!"

Yugi and the others looked nervous. If he had been expecting them, could he also be planning to capture them? They all entered the huge hall of the mansion. Pegasus stood waiting for them in the center, Emily by his side.

"What can I do for you?" He asked in a kind way, but none of them were going for his act. Joey was the one to answer.

"You can let Kari go you piece of…" He screamed.

"Joey Wheeler!" A voice yelled angrily. "That is no way to speak to anyone,"

The group looked up to see a girl standing on the staircase. She had long silky legs, but they were hidden by the silk Japanese Pajamas set. The red, and black fabric classed with the fire red hair that had been braided. Dark circles were under the dragon green eyes, that seemed lifeless. Kari looked disgusted by her friends. She seemed to float over the floor as she stood between Seto and Pegasus.

"Alright Kari!" Seto growled. Yugi felt it sounded quiet father like as he watched Kiaba grab a hold on the girl's arm. "We are going home!"

"I am home!" Kari hissed like a snake, ripping her arm from Seto's grasp. He backed away. "I told you to let me be,"

"Hey Seto!" Yugi whispered, tugging on his sleeve. "I smell something fishy. I don't think this is Kari,"

"Humph," Seto muttered under his breath.

"I don't believe this is Kari!" Yugi protested, making everyone jump. "Got any proof!"

"Will this do," The girl smirked as she held up the golden necklace of Naffinni. Yugi felt the pit of his stomach hit.

"That does not prove anything!" Yami yelled, feeling that lack of hope in Yugi. "You could have stolen it!"

"Then test me!" Kari screeched. "Or are you afraid that you will drain little innocent Yugi of his strength, Yami!"

"You don't sound like the Kari we know," Bukura replied. "She was kind, and loving. You are hateful and as cold as a snake's blood,"

"People change Bukura," she answered in a tune that made everyone's neck hair stand at an end. "Maybe, that Kari has left this world, and entered the next,"

"Kari was the best duelist I know!" Yugi yelled angrily, he eyes started to water a little. "I challenge you!"

"So be it!" The girl laughed coldly. "Seal your own fait Yugi,"

With this they left for the battle area. All, but two who had gone missing when no one had been looking, but one is on a search for good, the other for evil.
