~Joey's POV~
I could hear the buzzing on my alarm clock from underneath the sheets, waiting for me to press the shut off button on top of it. I growled. It was only Tuesday, and I had to go to school. I didn't want to! I usually couldn't wait to get there because all my friends were waiting for me, wanting to chat with me. I liked talking, it was my thing. However, I was up all night doing my essay, wanting it to be perfect so I could at least get a descent grade. My grades had been going down hill for some time now, and my father was getting disappointed in me. I didn't like disappointing my father. It left a sickening feeling in my gut that told me I needed to straighten up or ship out. So, why not at least try?
I lazily slid out of bed and headed to my father's bedroom. I knocked on the door and called. "Dad, get up. I'm making scrambled eggs and toast for breakfast." I heard a low grumble and the retort of squeaking springs. I chuckled and made my way into the kitchen. As I opened the frig door, I remembered that we didn't have any butter or cooking oil to put into the pan so I could fry the eggs. Oh well. I would just have to put it in a bowl and cook it in the microwave. (What? You've never done it before?) I grabbed the cartoon of eggs and cracked three of them into a bowl, place it into the microwave, and then cook it for two minutes. While it was doing that, I grabbed the bread and placed two slices into the toaster.
My father hollered something from down the hall, which indicated he was out of bed. "We have not butter."
I smirked. "I realize that dad. That's why I'm using the mic." I turned to face the old man, which wasn't the greatest of ideas. The old man was butt ass naked and scratching the back of his head, looking half-dazed. "Uh…I'm going to guess you had a man over here last night."
My dad grinned foolishly and nodded. "Yeah, and what a night it was."
"That's enough info, thank you!" I exclaimed while covering my ears. "I don't want to be scarred more than I already am, dad!"
He laughed as he sat down on a stole at the island in the middle of the kitchen. It was going to have to be disinfected after I got home from school. I shuddered mentally.
I almost jumped when the toast popped up at the same time the microwave went off with five beeps. Damn beeps! It gave me a freakin' heart attack. Of course, my dad saw this and laughed harder. He must have noticed that I didn't set a bowl out for me either and asked. "Aren't you going to eat something before you leave?"
I shook my head as I crushed his eggs with a fork. "I need to get going. I stayed in bed a little bit longer than I needed to," I responded. I reached for the cherry jam in the cabinet to spread on his toast. I placed the toast in the bowl and handed it to my father. "I'll just grab something on the way there. I have some change left to get a bagel."
I saw my father give an queasy face.
"Nasty," he commented.
I just laughed. "It's better than eating syrup with my eggs." I pointed out as he was reaching for the syrup bottle on the island.
He paused in his approach to the bottle and grinned up at me. "Don't mock the syrup and eggs boy," he joked.
I snickered as I grabbed my book bag and headed out the door. "I'll see ya later pop. I gotta get to school before I'm late."
"Be careful son, I love ya!" He hollered before I shut the door behind me.
I smiled to the statement. He was a goofy old fart, but I loved him too.

Of course, I wasn't able to get my bagel. By the time I got to the Donut Shop, I was running late, so I had to use the rest of my breakfast change on a bus. When I got to school, I was greeted happily by Yugi, Tristan, and Ryou. I noted that there was something up with Ryou, because of the distant look he had on his face. The same with Yugi, but he was more open about it.
"What's the matter?" I finally asked.
Yugi looked up at me with a weak smile and answered. "Yami says he feels another Millennium Item nearby. It's probably in town."
"Is that what's wrong with Ryou?" I stared at Ryou with concern. The white haired teen's skin was paler than usual and his eyes had gone tedious. "Yo, Bakura! Are ya in there?" I waved my hand in front of his face, but after getting no response I shrugged it off.
Tristan wrapped his arm around my shoulders and laughed merrily. "Guess who I saw in school today? I'll give you a hint. He works for Kaiba Corp." He sneered.
"Seto Kaiba is back?" That was unusual. It wasn't very often that you saw the stuck up CEO at school. "Do you think he'll be in study hall today?" I asked out of curiosity. I didn't know why I wanted to concern myself with his affairs. I guess I was just bored and Kaiba was the solution to my boredom…usually. Of course, I always risk my dignity when he comes back with a snappy remark. I sigh to myself and shake Tristan off my shoulders. "I don't think I want to mess with him today, Tristan. I just want to get by with my lessons because my dad is getting all kinds of disappointment from my bad grades."
Tristan nodded in understanding. At least, I hope that's what it was.
I practically jumped out of my skin when the school bell rang. Jeeze, I've been on edge all day. Maybe it's because I haven't eaten anything. Yeah, that's it. I nod, thinking that I solved that explanation. After I changed my shoes I immediately head to my first class, Yugi and Ryou at my heels. Tristan had Physical Education first hour, so we didn't have to wait for him.
As we approached our class, Yugi tugged on my uniform sleeve, trying to get my attention. I looked down at him with a grin. "What's up, Yug?" I asked.
He tugged harder on my sleeve, wanting me to lean down to his level. "We need to find that Millennium Item before Bakura does," he whispered. He glanced at Ryou from behind us. "You know what he'll do with it if he gets his hands on it."
I nodded. "Don't worry Yug. We'll go into town today and try to find it. With any luck, it'll be in one of the jewelry stores."
Yugi sighed in relief. "Good. Yami is getting way to tense for my liking."
I laughed. "Tell him to chill. We have it all under control."
Of course, to our dismay, Bakura was already plotting on getting the new item in his little collection. I swear that bandit had a one track mind. I wonder if it was driving Ryou crazy. It had to. It would drive anyone down a one way street into oncoming traffic.
When we reached our class, the tardy bell had just rung. I sighed in relief that we weren't late. I sat in my desk behind Yugi's and beside Ryou's. I was already exhausted and wanted to go home. However, I still needed to help Yami and Yugi to find that Millennium Item. I leaned over and tapped Yugi on the shoulder gently. "Hey, Yugi?" I whispered.
Yugi glanced at me over he shoulder. "Yeah?"
"I thought there were only seven items." I watched as Yugi spaced out for a moment. I guess he was talking it over with his yami. I waited for a second when Yugi turned back to me.
"Yami said he would discuss it after school."
I nodded in response.
Mr. Osaka, our science teacher looked up at us with a stern expression over his face. "Mr. Wheeler? Mr. Moto? Is there something you would like to discuss with the class?"
Yugi and I both perked up to the sound of his annoyed tone and the students staring at us with intense interest. We shook our heads no.
"Sorry Mr. Osaka! We won't do it again," I avowed.
The teacher nodded with a satisfied smirk and continued with whatever he was doing, which appeared to be writing formulas down on the black board. Yep! Science was definitely not on my to do list today. I sighed in aggravation and leaned back in my seat. I stared out the window at the sakura tree just outside, but I wasn't focused on that precisely. I was thinking about the new item. What would it look like? What was it's powers? I wonder what it would be like if I had a Millennium Item. I snickered mentally. I bet I would get a yami too; just like Yugi and Ryou. I doubt Yami would let me keep it though. Ha! Now I couldn't wait to search for it.
