It was cold. It was always cold now that the adults were gone. Yugi sniffed then shook his head. No use crying now. Three months had passed since a virus had killed all the adults and all his tears were dried up. Or at least they should of been. Zoot knows Mokuba didn't cry anymore and even Ryou seemed to have lost all desire to mourn for what was lost.
"Yugi!"
Tri color hair shifted as the boy looked up to see the leader or his tribe. The Strays as they called themselves had no problem appointing the youngest Kaiba to position of tribal leader and all things considered he handled it well.
"We're out of food"Mokuba said sitting down beside his friend. "All the tins are gone and the water's running low too."
Yugi sighed. He knew what was coming next. They would be forced out of their safe hiding place in Section 9 and forced to try to scrounge something up all the while avoiding the other warring tribes. With the adults so went the rules. "Who all's going?"
"All of us. It's not safe here anymore. The Demon Dogs are moving in and if they show up the Locos won't be too far behind. I hate to admit it but I think Ryou was right. We need to get out of the city before all hell breaks loose."
"Fuck." One word. Lifeless despite the intensity behind it.
"I know." Mokuba tossed his head then straightened the bright blue feathers holding it back. "Maybe we'll find the others."
"Don't count on it baby. They got set to that safe camp. We don't even know where it is. What if it's in another country? What if this is the only place affected?"
"It's not. Remember the news reports? It was everywhere."
"What was everywhere?"
Yugi grinned as Ryou joined them on the roof. It had taken awhile but he had finally convinced his friend to forsake the sweater and change into clothes that Mokuba refered to as "tribe style". Namely the sweater was gone replaced my a aqua colored shirt that matched the now dyed tips of his hair and the waves painted across his cheeks.
Yugi fingered his own tribal marking carefully so not to smear the makeup. Ryou had held him down and drawn three claw like marks on his face with blue black eyeliner. He had almost washed them off the first few days but now he was used to it.
"What was everywhere" Ryou asked again sounding annoyed at being ignored.
"The Virus" Mokuba answered tugging at his shirt. "It's cold."
"It's always cold" Yugi mumbled to himself.
"Yeah well we better go tell Mai that we're moving again or they'll be hell to pay." Ryou stood up and took a red feather out of his hair pushing it into Mokuba's unruly dreadlocks.
"They'll be hell to pay anyway. She hates moving."
"Who doesn't?"
