INTRODUCTION

"Finally, there he is..." A sitting teenage brunette muttered to her blue haired companion as a young boy with long black hair jogged up to them, a hasty apology on his lips "Konnichi wa, Hagino-kun! Did you forget that we were supposed to meet an hour ago?"
Hagino Mokuba breathlessly sat next to Takudo Shizuka on the low brick wall, "Kon... Konnichi wa, minna-san" He wheezed, trying to catch his breath, "Iie, I didn't forget, your 'niisan just pretty much kidnapped me and interrogated me about what my 'niisan likes to do on his birthday" Mokuba stood again, only to straighten out his costume.
The bluehead on the other side of Shizuka, with the appearance of a rather beautiful, if slutty, girl spoke up, the rough masculine kansai accent shattered the illusion of femininity "That's not a very good costume" he sneered bitchily in his deep voice "Shizu-chan and I dressed up, like we ALL promised, and you just turn up in what? A school uniform? I thought you were rich enough to buy out a chainstore of costume shops or something"
Mokuba sat again, and stuck out his tongue in a rather childish manner at the older boy, "I'll have you know that I'm in the 'Battle Royale' uniform!" He pointed to the silver collar around his neck, then the small gold hoop in his left ear "Mimura Shinji to be exact, he was my favourite..." He trailed off as Ichiro Touga rolled his kohl-lined eyes, and Shizuka knew the word 'favourite' in the sentence was really just code for 'my crush' The young Utena costume-clad Takudo knew that at this point she could only sit between the two, adjust her skirt and attempt to put on the scratchy pink wig as the older and younger boy sniped at each other, and wonder if the two had even realized they had crushes on each other yet.
"Anyway, Ichiro-sempaaaaaai, what are you supposed to be dressed as? Superslut?"
"How dare you!! I'm dressed as Toshiya-kun from Dir en grey!"
"So I was right, superslut!"
"Shut up baka!! at least I combed my hair!"
"At least I don't need ass implants to make my costume sexy!"
"Why you little-"
"Matte, minna-san!" Shizuka wisely jumped in before the boys actually came to blows, which had happened more than once before "Lets arrange our time at the the con first, then you two can claw each other to death, is that okay??"
Mokuba looked annoyed but nodded a little, while Touga pouted and primped his new-dyed hair.
The seventeen year old girl dug around in her overfull bag for a bit before bringing an already creased brochure, the words "AniCon '03" proudly emblazoned on the front, as she opened it and looked at the schedule "Mou...the showing of the new animes are at 10:00...cosplay competitions are at 13:00, and the TRIO live is at 15:00-"
"Hey that reminds me," Touga interrupted, learning towards the two eagerly, "Your brothers have the same managers as TRIO, so you would know if the rumors at school about TRIO are true" He stated, curiosity sparkling in his midnight eyes.
Shizuka feigned ignorance "What rumors?" she murmured, keeping her eyes on his brochure.
"Don't play dumb, the rumors about Ryou-kun of course!" He persisted
"Yeah they're true" Mokuba confirmed sadly, folding his long legs beneath him "It's kinda sad really, all these years and no real success, it makes sense to move on"
The older boy's eyes widened "You sure?? Wow, I'm glad I bought that 'Mottomo yoku no TRIO' album, it'll probably become a real collectors item" He whistled softly "But that's pretty cold of Ryou-kun, I mean at a nothing-venue like this?"
"I don't think he had a choice about it" Shizuka had put away the brochure by now and was adjusting the wig on her head "But then, 'niisan is in Papillion and not TRIO, so I could be wrong"
Touga finally just shrugged and crossed his legs "Ah well, life goes on I guess...and for kami's sake, Shizu-chan, take that damn wig off, it's making you look as ugly as Mokuba!!"

At 15:45 backstage at the TRIO live, the costume assistant was having a heart attack.
"Kami help me! Samir Malik, how in the Seven Hells did you get these new dungarees frayed so quickly!?" She wailed, then she (a former drama student) continued in the same tone, mostly to herself "I mean, once these arrived from the h.naoto warehouse last week you only wore these at the costume fitting and the dress rehearsal!"
"Ah Kuso! Can't you fix it it quickly Aiko-san?? Mai-san will skin me alive and then make me pay for it if she sees the damage!" 'Plus I fucking hate dungarees' The dark skinned blonde added silently, lest he incur the wrath of older woman inspecting the damaged pocket, Aiko usually was a sweet woman, but mess with her when she was wound up and you would wish you had never met her.
"It can't be that hard to sew up can it?" He said aloud, his lips going into the famous pout that earned him the title of being the 'eye candy' of the group.
"Hai, that's true" She said, unfurling a black spool of thread and pulling out a needle from her wrist -pincushion "But hold still-I'll be sewing you up all the way to the stage"

A while away near the curtains on the stage area, Ashida Yami, TRIO's manager and the boyfriend of Miwa Yugi, the 'energy' of TRIO, was angrily chain-smoking while on the phone to a sponsor. Yugi was nearby stretching his muscles, his usual way of calming down and releasing tension in his small but lithe muscles. Senior manager Ryusaki Mai (Maris only to lawyers and telemarketers) was actually on a rare day off, but had come to the live for the occasion, and was currently flicking through the latest Vogue, admiring what looked to be a ridiculously overpriced sparkly purple thong on a wafer-thin model.
The third manager from the 'ZERO1' management and representation company was Hyata Anzu, currently in tears on her keitai (mobile phone) to her notorious boyfriend, Eichi "The Shit" Kitoaji, a vain and pretentious model from Sapporo that broke up with poor Anzu every six months or so whenever he felt the relationship got too "Serious" Anzu was quite away from the rest, but Mai had very good hearing; and had no qualms over listening to an employees' private conversations, especially if they were interesting and teary. The gradual hum of the audience beyond the curtains grew louder, and played as a type of soundtrack to this brief scene was going on.
Meanwhile, in the quiet and (thankfully) clean toilets was Covington Ryou, thankful for this brief solitude. Ryou was the third and final member of TRIO, and his beautiful smooth singing voice and attractive pale features had earned his status as the most popular member of the group, the 'Voice' (Just about, Malik was always flooded by fanmail telling him he was the 'sex god' and Yugi's fans insisted his voice was the most natural and passionate)
He learned against the cold white tiles with his eyes closed, refusing to think, breathing deeply. A minute or two later he heard Anzu knocking, her teary voice telling him it was time, though he did not move until a full minute later. Ryou looked in the mirror while straightening his black h.naoto dungarees, identical to Malik and Yugi's complete with matching white T-shirt, while pasting in his "Pop Star" smile. The words, 'The Beginning of the End...' couldn't help but play over his mind.
As Ryou quickly approached the center stage to take his place, microphone in hand, he saw nearly all except Yugi and Malik had long gone, but Aiko was just hurrying off the stage. Now it was just them, TRIO, and their fans.
They only had time to exchange smiles and a few whispered encouragement's before the announcer started, firstly apologizing for the delays, as they channeled their breathing and pushed back their nervousness, and all three teenagers mentally prepared themselves, before they ran out to to the light...

A DEEPER SHADE OF BLUE
By Saffron

At around 19:00 in Tokyo, there is a overcrowded overground train going from Shinjuku station to terminate at Tokyo station in the Ginza district, on this train there is a young man of about nineteen. Covington Ryou. Due to the pleasant early summer weather he was wearing a pale green vest shirt with a faded print of an angel, with a pair of extremely old and worn Jean shorts, and a black baseball cap covered his unusual snowy white hair that was pulled back in a ponytail. He occupied the side carriage door with his back to the rest of the commuters, and he nodded his head and moved his hand subconsciously to a silent beat, dark brown eyes deep in thought.
-
Ryou practically bounced all the way to the front of the stage platform, adrenaline already starting to pump through his veins as he yelled his greetings to the crowd of loyal fans in the mini-arena, and took his cue when the drums started, giving as much passion to the lyrics as was humanly possible, not noticing the tall security guard near the corner with the disturbing pale face, that only had eyes for the short boy.

Ryou;
[Kimi] (anata) no egaku yume o mite mitai
[Kimi] (anata) ni egaku yume ni ikitsudzuketai Ima

Kodoku na yoru ni Me o tojite kokoro no Tobira o sotto hiraite
Kowagari na [noizu] Tameiki de fukikeshi Kotae o...

'Ryou....My love' Was the most prominate thought on his mind as he watched the figure. Along with others, this was what he considered to be pure, mental words of praise for the pop idol. His exquisite lithe figure, the body of a dancer, moved gracefully with every timed move as his pure voice practically drowned the man in a sea of passion, made real by his love. Of course Ryou was a virgin, there was no way he could carry off such a flawless body and voice, and of course, when the time for he and his love to come together and make love, that would be pure too, and Ryou could carry on...just the same as before.
Ordinarily he hated gaijins (foreigners) or any Japanese with tainted blood, but Ryou, his Love, His Beauty, was his tenshi (angel), so of course he could not fault him for being half-western. He scowled openly as the other gaijin took his cue to sing 'How dare that filth overshadow my tenshi!' was his mental outcry. But that anger was short-lived when he saw Ryou tug his unsullied white hair out of those perfect bronze eyes, which where currently closed, as that small mouth opened slightly to lick dry pink lips. 'Oh...my' Ryou was certainly getting quite carnal, the little minx, taunting him like that in public!

Malik

Ryou was so graceful and natural on stage, the guard mused as Ryou started to finish his duet with that other gaijin, stretching out his arm to give his stylized wave to the other fans, and quickly dodging the drinks can aimed at him and carrying on as if it hadn't...hang on. Someone. Threw. A can. At his tenshi?
The looked up from his crouching position to see a small crowd of drunk teenagers were indeed causing a disturbance, throwing things and yelling abuse, he would make sure they paid dearly for trying to hurt his Ryou...

Yugi
Tooi kako Tooi mirai Anata ga Dokoka ni ita nara Kitto
Hitori demo Kogoete mo Yasashisa Tokimeki Afurete

Yami noted with some pride that the band carried on as if nothing happened, as his eyes followed the general direction where the cans were being thrown, and let out an inward groan when he saw who it was. He nudged Anzu, "It's those guys again, do you think they'll start causing trouble again?" He said in his usual low voice. She shook her head "I don't think so. I mean there's alot less of them than last time, and the ones that are here don't look too dangerous" After a thought, Yami added "Besides, if things get out of hand Security can sort them out"
Anzu nodded in agreement, and the two managers watched the show from the sidelines for a few moments more.

All
[Kimi] (anata) ni egaku yume o mite itai
Kitto meguriaeru Sono toki made Kitto

A slim figure of medium height sat in the crowd, his face hidden by a green baseball cap, who's main attention also was riveted on the pale singer obviously noticed the cans, as well as the growing general unrest in the crowd due to the loud teenagers, but he paid no heed to it and focused on the concert.

All (mainly Yugi and Ryou)
Setsunasugiru Setsunasugiru Omoitsutaetara
Ai shisugita Ai shisugita Boku ga wakaru hazu

Ai shisugita Ai shisugita Boku ga wakaru hazu
Mabushisugiru Mabushisugiru Toki ni

Yami sighed heavily, raking a hand through his tri-coloured hair before pulling out another cigarette "Take care of him Anzu-chan," He murmured to the younger girl as he lit up "He didn't start like us, he's been with me and the boys since he practically took his first step in Tokyo, and I'm not sure if he can he can handle being on his own" Anzu stared at the usually stoic manager for a moment, before a small smile flitted on to her previously grey and saddened face "Don't worry Yami-kun" She reassured, "I promised I'll keep an eye out for him, but I think in the end he'll do fine by himself"

Kono omoi Tsutaetai Kono AI o Wasurenai
I THINK I BELIEVE

"Arigato, Minna-san!" Yugi cried energetically o the crowd, and most of them cried back their appreciation to the singer. After the crowd had calmed down slightly, the teen spoke again, "Unfortunately, due to the many delays we're afraid we only have time for one more song" He paused again at the ripple of discontent from the loyal fans, and he couldn't help but feel the same. Yugi loved singing, more than anything in this world, and if he could, he would sing forever for his fans. But he pressed on, his young, usually amiable face turning more serious "But firstly Ryou-kun has an important announcement to make"
Somewhere near the back, Mokuba nudged Touga.
Yugi stepped back slightly behind the taller Ryou, and clasped his free hand, while Malik placed a calming hand on Ryou's shoulder. The pale singer lifted his hand and hesitantly began to speak;
"..I, Covington Ryou, h-have really en....enjoyed the past three years in TRIO with everyone, however I-"
"Get away from me, freak!!"
Everyone's attention was suddenly torn away to the back of the stalls, where one of the security team was, apparently saying something to the small gang of teens. A tall pale boy with red hair seemed to take offense to whatever the guard had said, and by now had grabbed the man in a drunken rage; "Who the fuck are you tell us what we can't do!?" He bellowed before punching the guard squarely in the nose and throwing him down the stairs. The rest of the boys started to follow before someone threw something at them, screaming at them to fuck off, and soon most of the crowd joined in, yelling harsh words and throwing whatever they could get their hands on at the teenagers. The rest of the security team seemed at a loss for a moment before they rushed to the scene, determined to stop the incident before it turned into an ugly riot-
"Please stop it now!!!"
Again, everyone froze, including the security and the gang. Only the figure, who had not moved since the start of Ryou's announcement, raised his head slightly in surprise of the loud shout coming from the usually calm singer, and the formally fallen guard stood up, ignoring the slight pain in his ribs and the blood dripping down his chin. He only smiled at his tenshi. He was still safe and pure
.
Ryou continued in a quieter-though slightly-saddened tone "I was hoping that we could all just get along and have a good time today, and I thought..I thought..." He faltered and stopped, suddenly finding the floor fascinating, it was clear that whatever confidence he gained seemed to suddenly abandon him at the last minute. Malik saw he wasn't going to finish, and so said the words for his friend; "This will be Ryou's last concert with TRIO"
Amid the surprised sounds of the upset fans Ryou raised his microphone "I am sorry for the sudden announcement," He said "I will miss being in TRIO and entertaining you as a singer, but I hope to do the same as an actor, so if you will, this will be my last song to the fans, this isn't a TRIO song, but I hope you will appreciate it all the same"
He took a moment to lick his suddenly-dry lips, then took a song shuddering breath;

At 19:20 Ryou checks both sides of the street at the traffic crossing, then runs across the road.

AH... WILL YOU STAY WITH ME

At the busy supermarket Ryou glances at his neatly-written shopping list, and goes to the dairy section. He picks up a bottle of cow-brand milk and a tub of vanilla ice cream and places them in his basket. He then goes to the pet-food section and picks up the 'Nibbles' brand of fish food. After double checking his list he walks towards the cashiers section.

Ryou walks to his apartment door on the 7th floor, easily pulling out his keys. He could never afford to buy in bulk so he never had to be juggling with his bags while looking for his keys. He unlocked and opened the metal door while stifling a tired yawn, and quietly closed the door behind him as he stepped in.
FOREVER LOVE...

Ryou sighed. No matter how quietly he shut the door the metal clanging sound always echoed around his tiny apaato (apartment) He quietly removed his shoes, put on his slippers, and stepped into the small kitchen to unpack his purchases.

A few minutes later he collapsed on his futon in the main room, which doubled as the bedroom and living room, and he closed his eyes with an exhausted sigh, it had been an emotionally draining day after all.
Ryou's place was pretty much the same as the usual inner-Tokyo apaatos, which was one room plus bathroom and kitchen, and was almost crammed to the ceiling with his personal items, and a small balcony which held Ryou's washing machine, and in the summer a small folding chair and drinks table. It was small but Ryou was pretty happy with his room. Slowly he got up and turned on the TV to the news, then pulled out his fanmail letters from his jeans pocket. He let his baseball cap slide off his head as he sat up, using a pillow to support his arms as he opened the letters and started to read with a small smile on his face, as he always loved his fanmail.
Soon enough he came across his last one, a pink letter, which started out pretty standard;

Ryou,
Please sing for us forever Ryou, and remember I love you! I'll always watch you, I've put up a link to 'Ryou's Place'

"What the heck?" He mused aloud. A 'heck' and a 'darn' was the closest he ever got to a swear word.
He glanced out his balcony doors, but saw nothing. Of course he wouldn't, he berated himself, as if anyone would always be watching me! 'It must be some kind of code' He thought as he got up and neatly put away the letters in a cupboard, with his older fanmail. However, he left the pink letter on his side table, reminding himself to show it to Anzu later. He still felt uneasy and quickly closed the windows, then took a look around his room, he saw the large TRIO cloth wall hanging over his bed. He silently rolled up the hanging, collected up his other TRIO memorabilia, and put them in a shopping bag. "Thanks for the memories, guys" He smiled, then whispered a small prayer of luck to his friends. For a few moments he stared at the bag, wondering why he just threw away his stuff, then as he remembered he slowly walked away to the bathroom to start a bath.

About half a year ago Ryou had participated in a small TV film as a young student who managed to come through his sudden disabilities by a kind young teacher. Ryou had never taken an acting lesson in his life, and yet the director, producer, scriptwriter and most of the film crew had agreed the young boy was a natural, and, according to Mai, acting parts had flooded in from companies, and eventually Mai called a meeting to discuss Ryou's future. After an hour or so of Yami insisting he couldn't lose his most popular boy, especially after all of those expensive singing lessons, Anzu saying he should do acting part time, but still be marketed as a pop idol, and Mai's frustrated words of that Ryou should not only drop TRIO, but to lose his 'pure pop teen' image in favour for a more adult look, Ryou saw he had no real choice. In the end Mai was the boss, and had been in the marketing and financial side of the entertainment industry for years, and although Yami and Anzu, formally singers themselves, would have some experience of the industry, Mai would know best. Right?
Ryou sighed as he tested the running water with his hand. That sounded weak, even in his head, but it was far too late. He had agreed to it, and it had now been announced officially, there was no turning back.
His reverie was broken by the sound of the phone ringing, and he jogged to the phone so the person wouldn't hang up. He picked up the phone, which was sandwiched between his portable stereo and his numerous photos of friends "Moshi Moshi? ...Konban wa, oji (uncle)-Kazuma!" He sat on the tatami-mat floor cross-legged "Hai, I'm fine, how are you?...That's good, and-huh? My otosan? Father) Iie, I haven't heard from him in a while, but for a while he'll be flying back and forth between Iran and England, so I imagine it's a bad time to contact him...well, when he has time he always calls me first, so do you want me to pass on a message? Okay, uh huh..." He picked up a small notepad and pencil he always kept on his table, and started to jot down some kanji.
"Okay I'll make sure he gets it, alright? You're welcome...okay, ja" He hung up and put the phone back on it's cradle. No doubt his absent-minded uncle Kazuma would call back in a few minutes about something he had forgotten to ask.
True enough, a minute or two, later when Ryou was turning off the taps for his bath, the phone rang. The teenager rolled his eyes jokingly as he padded towards his room, but it stopped after two rings, and the fax machine started whirring. Probably Mai sending him a Memo, Ryou thought, as he approached the fax printing out the paper. Then he froze about a foot away from the machine, his eyes practically glued to the in-tray as he gasped in shock.
The fax was scrawled with kanji all over the page randomly, some written, others printed, but the grouped characters all said the same thing.

'Traitor'
