Elizabeth ran until the park was clear out of sight.

Panting she sat down next to a building. `No more people…' she thought, feeling tears fall down her face.

Wiping them away she stood up. She had to leave Domino Japan. Maybe she could find out a way to get to America. Her stomach growled. FOOD! How could she have forgotten to pack food? It wasn't so surprising actually. She would have had to leave her room and cross the kitchen, risking being caught.

Maybe I'll find some money on the street and then be able to buy more food, she thought hopefully as she walked.

Suddenly a hand from the dark alley way shot out and dragged her into the shadows, muffling her screams for help.

“Okay kid,” a cruel voice said in her ear, “Give me the bag and I MIGHT let ya go.”

She tired to scream and began to struggle but stopped immediately when she felt the knife at her throat.

She whimpered weakly as she tried to think of a way to escape.

Suddenly an idea struck her and she bit the hand covering her mouth.

Her captor yelped and let he go. She scrambled to the wall but he pinned her to the wall turning her so she looked into his cold eyes.

“What are ya doin?” A fist suddenly punched the man, knocking him unconscious.

She looked up at the one who helped her, he looked back, chocolate eyes warm and concerned, and blonde hair messy and everywhere. “Sorry `bout that,” his voiced had a heavy accent, she observed, “Are ya awight?”

Elizabeth nodded weakly.

“What are ya doin in this part of town alone?” he asked pulling her up to her feet.

“Joey! There you are!” a boy with tri-colored hair shaped in a star ran up, “Where did you run off to?”

“I had a feelin' someone was up to some nasty business,” Joey clapped Elizabeth on the back, “and I was right.”

“What happened?” the boy asked.

Elizabeth opened her mouth to speak but Joey cut her off, “Some punk was trying to hassle her, but I stopped him before he could do any damage.”

The boy looked at her, “Are you lost?” He asked, eyes looking comforting and warm.

Elizabeth shook her head, “Please don't make me go back…” she begged, eyes watering, “He'll kill me.” From what had just happened, she could believe Joey could handle himself. And hopefully her.

“What are you talking about?” The boy asked. But Elizabeth couldn't bear reliving the painful memory again and burst into tears.

“Poor kid…” Joey said, holding her soothingly, “Hey Yugi, do you think your gramps would mind if ya bring her to your home? I don't think my house would work…” he commented, thinking of his usually drunk father.

“Sure Joey,” Yugi, is that what his name is? Elizabeth wondered, nodded his head and lead her to a nearby game shop.
