Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Fiction ❯ A Magical Quest Trilogy Part 1 ❯ A New Beginning ( Prologue )

[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]

Not a Mary-Sue fic!!! Sorry if it seems any of the characters are, I'm trying my best on this story! ;___; It's a sad attempt to a YGO! Story-fic that I will one day make into a doujinshi! No, its not an intended character x OC fic either. So there! It may seem like it at some parts, yes, but they're nothing more than… well, perks. Heheh… ok, I'm gonna shut up now. Comment please! ^__^ Sorry if I do make something in my story other then what it is!

Yosei Yume Shiai brushed out her long, waist length hair, shining a nice light purple in the golden sunlight that leaked through her window. She was getting ready for school as usual. She didn't really like wearing a pretty cotton candy pink uniform, complete with a navy blue bow, but if she wanted to go to this High School, Yosei had no choice. Pity.

She looked into the mirror again, seeing her light green eyes glow luminously, as the sun sparkled on her face, making her skin appear golden with glee.

"Hurry up twerp, or we'll be late!"

This came from her sister, Shinishojo Minto Shiai. Older by two years, but in the same grade. Long story. Let's just say she was too smart for seventh grade, and she went to eighth ahead of time. And so, she caught up with Shini eventually. Yosei's nickname for her. Actually, other people called her that. But she didn't like it. She didn't like it from Yosei either. She's a very finicky person at times. And very stubborn; like the Taurus she is. If you care to know, Yosei's a Leo, born August 10. You could say she's stubborn too. Just not nearly as bad as her sister.

Yosei grabbed her backpack, which was a nice easy to carry black bag, handled like a briefcase even though that's not what it was. It was filled with all her heavy and overwhelmingly large textbooks, which she'd gotten a month before school had started. She'd been only at school for a week, and yet she was still a loner with no friends. Surprisingly, that hadn't been bothered her yet. Maybe she blended in with the woodwork all too well, or maybe girls weren't picked on as much as short, weak guys were. Maybe.

Shinishojo, her sister, was 15 years old, at a height of 5'4" and weighing only 90 pounds. What's wrong with that picture? Dangerously underweight for her size and age. It made her drastically petite and it became an issue over the summer. The doctors proclaimed her anorexic. That would explain the almost hollowed out stomach. But Yosei had to promise not to tell anyone or she was dead meat. And Shinishojo meant it; when mom wasn't around. Shinishojo was heartless, even cruel, but she knows when to shut-up when mom was around. Smart girl. Yeah, right. And on her face were loads of white mask, and then a layer of black lipstick on her lips, and eyeliner around her dark piercing red eyes. Her eyes were the most unusual things on her face, because although you could plainly see the blood red, if you looked really closely, you could see a light layer of natural green film that made a green ring around the red. Creepy.

No one can say all bad things about Shinishojo. She wasn't always bad. On a good day, she wouldn't threaten her little sister. In fact, they'd sit in the same room, Yosei unharmed. Of course, she'd hug her a little too tight, to the point of choking, but that isn't the point.

"I'm ready!" Yosei shouted, going down the stairs. She went into the medium sized, blue painted kitchen, grabbing a piece of toast and a couple of dollars for lunch. She zoomed out the door after Shinishojo without time to acknowledge a good-bye from mom. She knows she understood, but Yosei felt a little bad for her motherly concern. Moms; you gotta love them.

Yosei stood four whole inches shorter than her sister, but she never felt intimidated by her height. She was proud to be short sometimes. It was sad, but true. She finished her toast quickly, catching up to Shinishojo. Something was wrong.

"What are you so happy about this morning?" Yosei asked calmly as Shinishojo sort of pranced in her strides of step.

"Absolutely nothing," she grinned. That was a bad sign.

"Nothing?"

"Nothing at all."

That was a really bad sign.

As they walked, they came to an abandoned looking apartment building. On the steps unfortunately, were Shinishojo's best friends. But someone new was with them. All Yosei recognized was Joey Wheeler and Tristan Taylor, two bumbling idiots if you'd ever seen them. For some reason, they reminded Yosei that stupidity does make the world go around these days. The other boy that was with them looked remotely intelligent; but then again, you can never judge a book by its cover.

Joey Wheeler is someone you really can't predict. Behind that sniveling smile of his was nothing but hot air. You could also say he's a pretty boy wannabe, standing at 5'8" blonde hair, brown eyes that looked like a puppy dog's. No wonder he was often teased with doggie remarks. Yosei really didn't know much about him, all except that recently he was in some deep trouble. Didn't surprise her.

Tristan Taylor is another pretty boy wannabe, but Yosei could admit he isn't half as decent looking as Joey. He had tall brown hair, with black on top, and it was very spiky. He stood at 5'9", and had a scar under his left eye. His eyes were a deep brown, almost black. Another thing about Tristan was that he gave himself a nickname that he used formally at nighttime, because his attire was Raver fashion trendy. The nickname was Rave obviously.

The other guy had black, spiked up unnaturally hair. And his spiky bangs were very goldish blonde looking. His eyes were reddish purple, and they were HUGE. Cute huge. And Yosei likes cute things. Did I mention she like bunnies a lot? She has a closet full of stuffed rabbit toys. But she can't help it that she likes rabbits. And speaking of which, this guy strangely reminded her of them... maybe behind the naïve and innocent looking exterior revealed that of an also sweet and caring interior. Don't ask. Please.

"I knew you'd help him out after that incident..." Shinishojo spoke.

"Yeah, he helped me though, and dat's all that matters."

Joey said 'dat'. Don't mind him. He's got a Boston-like accent.

"Why, what happened?" Yosei piped up.

"Long story kid..." Tristan said. Yosei wasn't sure if she wanted to know. She knew Tristan well enough for that, even though she doesn't think he liked her anymore than Joey did.

Yosei looked at the guy again, and realized how short he was. In fact, they were the same height! She didn't know it was possible. He must've not eaten his veggies or drank his milk when he was younger. That would also explain what happened too Yosei guessed, having to do with height. Well, whatever it was, she was sure Joey and Tristan must have owed him if they were going to befriend him like that. Yosei guessed making friends wasn't that hard.

"Well, let's get going," the boy said. They all agreed with a silent nod and went down the sidewalk to school.

Yosei caught herself looking at everybody and what they were wearing. Shini was wearing a black uniform, specially dyed herself. She even got a gray bow. The school was not at all happy with her individuality in making an alternative. Of course, mom pleaded the school and insisted on allowing Shinishojo to wear the uniform because for some reason it made her look less sickly, as the black was pretty much the only color she wore. Unusually enough, the school agreed. It took time for the school to allow her, and since mom was smitten with the PTA Board, they considered Shinishojo a 'special case' because of that reason. Yosei wished she were that lucky. Actually, no, not really. She didn't want to be that different. It was bad enough not having any friends.

Joey and Tristan were wearing the same blue uniform most boys wore everyday. Others wear substitutes I guess, or what looked similar to the school policy. Like the new kid with them. He was wearing remotely the same thing. But his suit screamed leather with the way it shined.

He must have caught her looking at him while she was thinking about it, because he turned to her saying, "Oh, I'm Yugi Mutou."

"Oh, and I'm-"

"Yosei Shiai. I know. Shinishojo has told me a lot about you."

"Huh?"

Was that good or bad? I mean, a guy knowing a lot about her. She wouldn't mind if she was just mentioned, but perhaps many conversations about her? Maybe she was paranoid? Or not, considering she was now finding herself blushing.

Luckily, he didn't notice as he went back to concentrating on walking and talking.

"Well, I mean she's told me about how you're her younger sister, and that you are really smart, and you're thirteen and ya know, basic stuff."

This guy had to have read her mind. She felt the little voice in her head say something like 'idiot.'

"Oh, well, I really don't know who you are, but..."

"That's ok. You'll get to know him really soon. He's pretty tough for a little guy when you give him a chance," Tristan said. Yosei guessed there is more than what meets the eye. But with some people you never know.

A good example is a guy named Kaze Yoru. He seemed like your typical nice and sweet kind of guy. He stood at 5'10", and was a junior in High School. He had dark blue hair that was cut short with no part. He, like Tristan had a scar under his left eye, but it started from below his cheek, rather from under his eye. His eyes were an orange color.

What was so bad about this guy? Well, for starter's, his secret life is that of being a gangster-selling drugs, beating up people, blackmail, so on so forth. What's worse, he's Shinishojo's boyfriend. Um, was her boyfriend…

"Come on kid, you owe us!"

Kaze kicked the helpless Yugi into the corner of the dark alley.

"Stop Kaze…" Shinishojo walked up behind him, and laid a hand on his shoulder. He instantly turned around and grabbed her wrist, pulling her close to him in an embrace. He leaned in for a kiss and suddenly stopped.

"But Shini, I'm doing this for you…" he cooed.

"I may like torture, but not this kind of torture…" she replied.

"That's just too bad, cause he's gonna pay up anyway!" he let Shinishojo go and went over to Yugi, picking him up by his hair.

"He doesn't owe anyone anything Kaze. Let's just go. I feel sorry for this kid."

"Why? Just because he's weak? Hmph. You think I care what he goes through? Not like he cares what I go through."

"He doesn't even know you."

"So?" he threw Yugi down to the ground violently, making Yugi shudder in a great deal of pain.

"Stop Kaze."

"What're you going to do about it?" he turned to Shinishojo, taking her wrists together and pulling them down below her waist.

"Let go Kaze," Shinishojo said sharply.

"Or what?" he sneered.

"Or this!" she flipped her hands out of his grasp, thrusting all her weight into her arms and flinging Kaze over like he was nothing.

"Damn wench, what the hell was that for?!" he shouted, landing fiercely on his back.

"Never touch me when I don't ask you to," she said.

"Well, touch this!" he threw a cigarette from his front pocket at Shinishojo's face. A good distraction, while he rolled over to her and pulled her to the ground. He easily overpowered her and jumped on top of her, pulling a knife out and holding the sharp blade to her cheek.

"Get the fuck off me Kaze!" she shouted.

"You like that don't you? Remember Shini, I'm the dominant one… you like submission… remember that…" he said, pulling her shirt down.

Kaze stared at her as she groaned, him sliding the knife down her cheek, down to her neck, and stopping below her right breast. Shinishojo had fallen victim to Kaze's seducing gaze easily. She tried to get away, but it was futile. She sadly enjoyed how he made her writhe beneath him as he threatened to even kill her.

Yugi looked up to see Shinishojo struggling from Kaze's hold on her. He knew he had to do something. The first thing he could think of was run and scream for help, but that never works. It seemed hopeless, but he charged at Kaze, knocking him off of Shinishojo, and the knife flew out of his hand, hitting the wall and breaking.

"Dammit! You broke one of my favorite knives!" Kaze yelled at Yugi, who was helping up Shinishojo.

"Thanks Yugi. I owe you," she exclaimed as she pulled her shirt back in place.

"What're friends for?"

"Friends, I don't think so-"

"Shini, what are you doing? Why are you going against me all of a sudden? Just because you feel sorry for him?"

"Sort of. When I saw you throw Yugi against the wall, it reminded me of me when I was mad at my sister for no reason. I beat up my sister when I'm depressed… and it always made me feel better afterwards. Because I was angry at myself. And seeing you do that to Yugi made me realize what a monster you and I both are. So why don't we stop and leave now?"

"I'd rather not."

"Why are you so damn stubborn?"

That came from Yugi. Ooh, he said a potty word.

"If you really thought about it, we don't know each other. Yet you want to take your anger out on me. And now your own girlfriend. What kind of person are you?" Yugi asked.

"How about you shut the fuck up?!" Kaze punched Yugi in his stomach. He spit up some blood, gagging violently.

"Ya know, I really don't like the `F-word', but I'd like to say how `bout YOU shut the fuck up Kaze?"

Joey showed up, just in the knick of time, Tristan, er, Rave, tagging along as well. Convenient.

"Joey my old friend? Who invited you to the party? Would you talk some sense into Shinishojo? She seems to think that beating people up is a bad reminder or something. I wasn't paying attention cause I really don't care…"

"Kaze you asshole!" Shinishojo smacked him. He merely smirked.

"Listen, I don't date you to talk. I date you to have at it with your nice, small body!"

That really angered Shinishojo. Even Joey and Rave didn't like that.

"Man, what's with you Kaze? You're not yourself. It's not like you to talk like that to Shini. Even I wouldn't say that to a girl. Especially Shinishojo," Rave said.

"I've never had a girlfriend, and that's probably the most insensitive thing any guy could do to a girl!" Yugi said.

"Yeah, you should respect girls, not treat `em like sex toys!" Joey remarked.

"I've had enough of your talking Joey. I've never liked listening to you. And I never will." Kaze whipped out a butterfly knife. It unfolded in mere seconds, giving Kaze enough time to push Joey to the wall and hold it to his neck. Rave and Shinishojo rushed Kaze, who instantly dropped Joey. They ended up running into him.

Shinishojo ricocheted off the wall quickly after getting up, and tackled Kaze; the knife fell to the ground. She was on top, punching his face as hard as she could.

"You fucking faggot asshole! I can't believe I ever dated you! All you wanted me for was for fucking, right? Right?! Well fuck this!"

She tried shoving her fist into his jaw as hard as she could, when he stopped her with his free hand, and twisted it, the way a wrist shouldn't bend. Crack! Her fragile bones were easily dismantled.

"Shini!" Joey shouted, hearing her bones crack into an echo amongst the dark and suddenly silent alleyway.

"You jerk. You're going to pay for hurting one of my only best friends." Joey said so calmly, it was scary.

Kaze pushed her to the wall, pulling her skirt up slowly.

"What the hell are you doing?" Rave asked.

"Don't make me do this… either you leave now and let me finish my business here with Yugi and Shinishojo… or you deal with me… after I have a little fun with my girlfriend…" Kaze sneered.

"Put her skirt down!" Yugi demanded.

"Shut up shrimp! You're not part of this!"

Kaze lifted it up all the way, exposing silk black panties that were quite small… he laid his hand on her ass, ready to feel her up, when Joey charged at him in a complete rage. She landed on the ground, curling up into a fetal position while the two boys went wild and began battling fiercely. Yugi and Rave went over to her, Rave cradling her in his arms, and Yugi telling her softly she'll be okay.

"If you wanna fight over her, then fine, how about we share her?" Kaze suggested. Joey replied with a punch that sent Kaze flying to the ground.

"Okay, have it your way…" Kaze hesitated, eyeing the butterfly knife.

"Joey, the knife!" Yugi cried, realizing what Kaze was looking at. In a split second, Kaze grabbed the knife and lunged at Joey, who two seconds too late just confirmed in his mind what Yugi just said. The knife pierced his the area just below his collarbone, blood spraying from the venial wound.

"Argh! Damn that fucking hurts!" Joey screamed out, at the same time kicking Kaze where the sun does shine-and I mean the `ballpark'. The two continued fighting, throwing blows and kicks back and forth at each other, hurting worse every time.

Moments later, after much bloodshed, the battle was over, and Kaze was thoroughly hurt. His arm was twisted badly, and his nose was no longer seemingly functional. Joey too was hurt, but his spirit was not. His eye was bleeding, and he had many cuts all over, not to mention a venial cut that was only getting worse.

"Okay Joey, you've won this time… Yugi you got lucky… but I'll be back-and Shinishojo-you better teach yourself how to sleep with your eyes open…" he limped away into the darkness, and back into the street, scampering away like a chicken running around without its head.

Joey collapsed to the ground with a sigh. Shinishojo jumped up and ran to him, leaping into his arms.

"Oh Joey! I'm so sorry! So sorry! I didn't mean to involve you in all this!" she sobbed into his chest. Her eyeliner and mascara ran down her face like she was crying black and solemnly empty tears, as his blood simmered into a fine slow flow that seeped into Shinishojo's shirt. But for the first time in her life, she didn't care, because she actually felt like she was crying for a good reason.

(Authoress Note: This is still the same flashback, and will end when I tell you. So there.)

XOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOX

The four helped each other out to the hospital nearest to them, which was still quite aways from their location. Rave, the strongest of the four currently picked up Yugi while Joey held Shinishojo. He flatly refused any help, and grabbed Shinishojo without warning. If the situation weren't so dire, she'd have accused him of doing it on purpose. But she was tired, hurt, and not in the mood for `let's-slap-Joey-because-he's-a-pervert" game.

Joey eventually leaned against Rave for support though, not trusting himself to be able to carry her all the way without something to hold onto. He wasn't going to risk falling on her while he was concentrating on walking. Minutes later, Rave then moved on ahead, Joey saying he was sure enough he could hold up on his own. Plus he figured it'd be a little suspicious with four people coming into the hospital at once with injuries.

Shinishojo cuddled up close, huddling against Joey's chest, her head tucked slightly under his chin. She had never been so close to him before, and yet for some reason she felt comforted, holding on to him like he was the only thing that kept her alive.

It was because Kaze's words would haunt her like the evil fiendish ghost he was. They would always eat at her like oxygen and rain does to rust. So slow that she wouldn't know what he was doing until the last second. She shuddered violently thinking about it. Joey noticed.

"How're ya holding up Shini?" Joey asked in a whisper. Yugi fell asleep in Rave's arms, too tired to even move. He seemed to be sleeping like a rock. And after all that excitement for a little guy, anyone would want to fall asleep and forget that horrible experience.

"I… I'm scared… I'm afraid of what he'll do to me when he finds me…"

"Don't worry, me and Tristan-I mean, Rave will protect you… we always will…"

"And Yugi?"

"What? That kid? What's up with him anyway?"

"I protected him…"

"Is that why this started? Over him?"

"No… I mean… sorta. I couldn't bear to see Kaze beat him up. It made me think of me when I beat up my sister for no reason…"

"Shini-you could have been raped-or worse! Dead! If Rave and me weren't there, you'd have been dead! The kid too probably! So what's so important about him?"

"You can't say it wasn't worth it, because it was! I knew Kaze was a jerk, but I never knew he was using me… if I hadn't found out tonight, I could have been in worse trouble tomorrow… maybe even pregnant… I don't know if I could live with myself if that happened…"

"Shini…"

"What I'm saying Joey, is that tonight made me realize that if I hadn't done what I did, my future would have been a lot worse than what I've experienced tonight. Kaze may have been able to pleasure me… but I'd never let him give me pain. I never will… and I couldn't have realized that without Yugi… if I saw him dead tonight because of my selfish, careless, and stupid emotions, I'd see my sister. I'd see her, not him, dead. Why? Because in a certain sense, they're a lot alike. Innocent pawns in the cruel dark world that everyone lives in."

"I can't believe I'm saying this, but I agree with you Shini… I agree…"

Joey pulled Shinishojo closer to him, and took one of her hands. They intertwined their fingers together like lovers would. She stared deep into his eyes and smiled. He smiled back. He leaned in closer for a kiss on her cheek. His lips were warm, like his entire body. Shinishojo responded by pulling his face to hers, and kissing him back in a more passionate way. It was her way of saying thanks.

Rave made it to the hospital, still holding on to Yugi like a baby doll.

"Hey, I need some help here! I found this kid beat up in an alley!"

Joey rushed in after him, cradling Shinishojo tenderly.

"Hey! Is dare a doctor in da house! I could use one especially since my I just found my friend in a creepy alley, abused by her boyfriend! Not to mention the fact that he attacked me too!!!"

And so, all ended well, with everyone recovering in time, just before the day everyone has to go to school and retrieve their textbooks early. Shinishojo's wrist healed quicker than expected, but she was glad it was okay. Yugi was very bruised and was bandaged up. Also Joey had a large gauze pad to cover his collarbone. Healing in a week seemed like a miracle, but the memories they had to endure were not. Tristan too was haunted, but his scars were more temporary than the other three.

It would seem they all became friends easily, convincing Joey and Tristan (Rave in case you forgot) that Yugi could be a tough customer if he wanted to be. Yosei, completely unaware of what happened to her own sister, carelessly prepares herself for High School. All the while Shinishojo conceals her new attitude until the end of another gloriously short, yet adventurous, summer.

As for Kaze, he disappeared; rumor has it he had too much fun at a brawl and got himself killed in the process. Others say he's in jail. Wherever he is, Shinishojo hopes she never has to see him again, as well as hopes to never have to tell her sister.

(Authoress note: We now return to your regularly scheduled programs. Or, uh, end of the flashback of doom.)

XOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOX

The wind blew harshly, Joey holding down his blonde hair in place-it was early, yet many of their classmates were out, and he probably didn't really feel like being questioned by any of them right now, especially just to hear, "Oh, you should go see the nurse..." just because they had noticed the bandages on his cheek and temple. The nurse didn't know jack in his eyes with the way his attitude is.

It was because he had run into a few gangs recently that felt Joey was an ingrate and a poor excuse for a fighter to `own' a turf on Domino High School. So he took care of them, at the cost of a few bruises and cuts, most of which were not visible, except the few on his face.

As they walked quietly, there was not one exchange of words. That is until a black, and very shiny familiar limo showed up. The limo splashed a bit of mud on Joey. Tristan barely avoided the wave. Shini, Yugi, and Yosei were surprisingly missed entirely. Luck.

"Damn that Kaiba and his fancy ride to school!" Joey complained out loud, unwillingly causing it to stop. Tristan clamped a hand over Joey's mouth, seeing as the window was going down, thinking Seto Kaiba was going to do something about Joey's big mouth. Instead, a girl with long blondish brown hair and blue streaks, with bright eyes that were an odd color of bluish green, appeared from behind the window as it went down fully. She smiled sheepishly. Shinishojo and Yosei just stared, and Yugi seemingly had no clue what was going on either.

"I'm so sorry! My driver is so reckless sometimes!" her voice squeaked.

"Ah-uh-um..." Joey stuttered, overwhelmed by the girl's fascinating beauty in his eyes. Joey was sort of a hopeless romantic according to Shinishojo when it came to pretty new girls he didn't know. And also according to her, he had no luck either.

"You must think I'm a big jerk like my brother!" she exclaimed, startling Joey and Tristan both.

"Huh?" Tristan asked dumbly.

"You big dope!" Joey wrapped his arm around Tristan, yanking him down low to the ground, "Don't you know anything?"

"What?" Tristan hissed.

"Didn't you know Seto Kaiba has a twin sister?" Shinishojo bent down to whisper sharply, and barely audible. She had joined in the conversation temporarily.

"I knew that!" Tristan hissed again.

The girl in the limo blinked, very confused.

"Sorry for the wait!" Tristan said as an auto response to Joey's painful nudge in the side with his elbow.

"It's ok," she smiled, causing Joey to form blush lines on his face. The window started to go up, as the girl vaguely introduced herself.

"My name is Seyamchi Kaiba!" she said, not knowing if he knew or not.

"And I'm-"

The window shut just as Joey was about to announce himself.

"Come on lover boy," Shinishojo took his ear as waterfall tears sprang from Joey's eyes.

"But... I..." Joey wept.

Another limo drove by afterwards, this time faster, splashing a bigger wave of mud, flying on Joey and Tristan. Shini ducked out of the way just in time.

"DAMN YOU KAIBA!!!" they both cried, covered now in gobs of mud. It would seem those two are disliked by cars. Yugi and Yosei couldn't help but snigger. Shinishojo held a large sweatdrop over her head as the two wiped themselves clean of the mud.

"Aw man, I hafta go to school like dis?" Joey complained.

"I'll just blame you..." Tristan said.

"Gee danks..."

"Let's just go guys, school will be starting soon," Yosei decided to say.

"Yeah, she's right," Yugi agreed.

So off they went again, off to go to school. And they eventually arrived; at an enormous building that was about four stories high. Talk about your large high schools. Outside were hundreds of students, girls dressed like Yosei, boys dressed like Joey and Tristan. Few alternate uniforms like Shinishojo's were seen, but they had to have reasons. Otherwise they wouldn't be wearing them. This was a school with a strict uniform and disciplinary policy. Uniform Yosei believed, but they weren't so uptight on their discipline. Every corner you'd swear a kid was being picked on cruelly, or sexual harassment, or kids getting into vicious brawls. Yosei tended to avoid the rough crowd.

Anyway, they headed inside, passing a few groups of students watching two guys beat the stuffing out of each other. Yosei didn't care to watch. Joey sighed, not wanting to get involved either Yosei guessed. He was pretty famous for his fighting too from what Yosei heard. They got to the classroom, practically empty.

They all had the same classes pretty much. Yosei didn't see any differences on any of their class periods, as she later found out that they were stuck with each other all day. Suddenly, as they went to sit down, Seyamchi walked in, followed by her brother, as they all know, Seto Kaiba, the millionaire extraordinaire. The girl was wearing a mod uniform, ones that only rich people bothered getting. It was similar to the girls uniform at domino, but more taut, and the color of emeralds. Seto was wearing, as most boys wore, a blue top, with matching blue pants. His perfectly straight upright brown hair with a mullet fit with the suit. His bangs were scattered though, instead of plastered to his head in a professional way. It made him look very wild in a way. There was something about it that seemed... right. But still, most people preferred to see him in his `business clothes' or as we like to call a 'trench coat'.

Yosei watched as Joey decided to hide his face in a textbook, like he was reading.

"Hi guys!" she waved. Tristan and Yugi said hello back, but Joey pretended he didn't hear her. Seyamchi leaned onto his desk right behind her, trying her best to see his partially hidden face. She brought his chin up with her hand, smiling sweetly.

"Aww, you don't have to be shy around me! I'm easy to get along with, and I don't like when people are sad or shy around me, because then I'm sad too. So no more sad face ok?"

Joey blushed and nodded slowly. He muttered a hello as well, and she took her hand off his chin.

"Well, that's a start. Anyway, I better turn around now," she said, receiving a glare from her brother.

"Why are you talking to these losers?" he scowled.

"If anyone's the loser around here, its you meanie!" she stuck her tongue out at him. He just ignored her comment, and pulled out a novel to read. Seyamchi pulled out a video game magazine to amuse herself, giving him a mean look.

"Man do I hate 'im... but Seyamchi sure is pretty..." Joey said dreamily, but in a low voice, and Yosei could almost imagine the Sakura Petals in the background. Tristan stepped in, burning the petals with fires of truth.

"Yeah, too bad they're brother and sister..."

Yosei could tell Joey's heart split in half. "Danks for pointin' out da obvious Einstein..."

"No prob, bro!" Tristan said cheerfully. Yugi laughed.

"I see you have a crush on Kaiba's sister," Yugi pointed out, "But that's ok. I see why you like her. I've talked to her once over the summer, and she was very nice."

"You talked to her before and you never told me?!?!?!" he took Yugi by the neck shaking him.

Shinishojo and Yosei just watched, as the conversation was going nowhere.

"They're just idiots. Ignore them," she said, probably noticing the look of confusion on her face.

"Aren't we nice today, sis?" Yosei asked sarcastically.

"I'll show you nice," she raised her fist playfully.

"Yeah, right..." Yosei pulled out a textbook on math, their 1st period class. Of course, they were just going over stuff Yosei learned on her own in 8th grade; algebra. It was 5 until 8:00, and class started 10 minutes after that. As they waited, a few more students came in. Everyone always came in at the last minute. In fact, the teacher was late himself sometimes. But what can you do?

Yugi was looking at something Yosei couldn't quite see. Yosei and Shinishojo both leaned over to see what was up. He was shuffling through his Duel Monsters cards, and his first hand after shuffling a while was a Dark Magician, a rare card with 7 stars and 2500 attack/2100 defense power, the strongest of his kind on its own. His second was a Kuriboh, a cute little fuzz ball who came in handy when the right combo came to hand. Then a Magical Hats card, a trap that hid any monster on the field with big black hats. Fourth was his Multiply card, the card that came in handy when Kuriboh was on the field, creating a shield of millions, literally, of the fuzz balls. And last was Mirror Force, a card that negates the attack of the opponent and sends the wave back at them and destroys all of their face up monsters. Yosei was glad she was learning this new card game so quickly. She also knew it was a very good hand too.

"Wow, you play too?" Yosei asked stupidly. He nodded, putting the cards back in and shuffling again.

"Shini does. And I do too. It's just that I do more than her," Yosei remarked.

"Which is why you always beat me royally..." Shinishojo shrugged.

"I play too ya know!" Joey exclaimed, pulling out his cards, which were miraculously not muddy. Talent.

Tristan said nothing, pulling out cards too. He didn't look like a hard-core player. Yosei was betting he wasn't.

"I barely play, but I do have cards."

Bingo. She wins a prize.

Yosei had her cards, but she debated on getting them out. Her cards were brand new, but she thought they weren't that great. She felt she couldn't compare to a Dark Magician... of course, she had something similar to it... and that was her special card. She never showed it to anyone. Only her and Shinishojo knew about it. Her father sent it to her in the mail a long time ago, before the accident. He was a very kind man, and he died in a grave and sickening feat, too painful to even mention. It was a card she'd never let go of. But she guessed she could show it to her new friends; well, she considered them friends since they weren't shooing her away yet. There's always a first time.

She pulled out her deck quickly, shuffling through and finding her favorite card.

"I have a card sorta like the Dark Magician in a weird way..." Yosei said shyly, handing it to Yugi.

"Wow. I've never even seen or heard of a card like this. It must be one of a kind..." he said in awe.

The beautiful being on the card was wearing a suit that was a beautiful silvery white silk robe with red ribbons attached to the six-pointed star decorated gem on her chest. A pink sash flows gracefully around her. She had very light lavender hair, and her eyes were a Scarlet Red. After all, her father made it to look similar to his wife, whom Yosei ended up looking more like than Shinishojo.

"Where'd ya get it? Dat don't look so powerful to me..." Joey took the card, looking at it in disinterest.

"What do you mean? My dad gave me that! It's called the Dark Magician Spirit. My dad used to work for Pegasus, and he created that card especially for me. And he had a card for Shinishojo as well, but he never finished it in time..."

Shinishojo glowered at her, and slunk away from our group. She never did like conversations with dad mentioned in it. Yosei always wondered why.

"Why, what happened?" Yugi asked innocently. Of course he wouldn't know. She only talked to him today for the first time. But she wasn't sure if she trusted telling him... eh, well, what could be the harm, she figured.

"Our dad died a long time ago... that's more than enough to let you know why..." Shinishojo answered before Yosei could say anything. Yugi frowned, looking really depressed all of a sudden.

"Oh... I'm really sorry..." he apologized. Yosei let it go.

"It's ok, it was a really long time ago, and it can't be helped," Yosei said comfortingly as possible.

"What's the card's effect and attack and such?" Tristan changed the subject before the gloom set in. Thank God.

"Well, her ATK is 2000, and her DEF is 2500. She's a 6-star monster, and she can only be summoned by removing a Dark Magician and a Dark Magician Girl from the Graveyard. Also, she gains an additional 500 ATK points for every Dark Magician type being on both sides of the field, in the graveyard, or removed from play, including herself and the Dark Magician and Dark Magician Girl that were removed from play in the first place. And her other effect is that she cannot be destroyed by anything higher than her ATK, including the boosts she gets from herself and the Dark Magician's," Yosei explained slowly and thoroughly.

"Um, I dink I get it," Joey said, utterly confused.

"I get it," Yugi smiled. Tristan shrugged, and Yosei knew Shinishojo knew it of course. A minute later, the teacher walked in, and she saw the clock read 8:07, and as she also saw, the room was more filled, and more students were coming in the fill the seats in. She put away her cards and awaited the teacher's instructions. It had been an interesting day so far, but she hardly thought that was the only thing going to happen today, what with making new friends, and her sister being nice, and it was the second Monday of Freshmen year for her. So, until the end of class, nothing worth mentioning happened.

"How da Hell am I supposed to solve these problems?" a Boston accent rang with fury.

"Well, I guess he thinks we're Einstein or something... gravity sucks!" another voice declared.

The two boys were sitting in their chairs, where they usually sat together in their seminar hour. Joey threw down his pencil and notebook in major ferocity. Tristan bit his nail, trying to think hard, but found no information to be useful.

Students passed by occasionally, running up and down stairs in the hall, sitting in different seats, and so on. Yugi sat at a desk nearby watching them, not doing his homework but rather admiring his cards.

Yosei sat quietly, reading a copy of her new literature, upon which she had received as an assignment last period. She peered over the edge of her book, glancing around the room to see people bustle about, whether they were talking, or studying, or both. Seminar was quite a boring period before lunch, as it was already 5A as they called it. They had 25 minutes to do homework, lounge, or even sleep. Then they had 5B, which was another 25 minutes for lunch. Short, but that was the way school worked there. Yosei was already used to it. Not surprising.

And finally, last period had come and gone, and the day seemed to have been dragging since the morning.

XOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOX

"Hey! Yosei!" she heard an unrecognizable voice say.

A girl was standing there behind her. She was a girl with icy blue hair and violet eyes. Her eyes looked dazed, as if looking at something that was invisible to anyone else. She waved to Yosei, her skirt being twirled beautifully in the wind. A boy walked by, whistling at her. She ignored him, although even Yosei could admit in the sunlight she looked beautiful.

"My name is Ayami Fubukiori!" she called out.

"Oh, er, um... hi!" Yosei said stupidly. Ayami turned around, walking away and mumbling something she could barely make out.

"I'll see you... soon..." Ayami said vaguely, the last word sounding a bit possessed, as if forced to say it.

"That was... odd..." Yosei told herself aloud. Others passed her by, as she watched the Ayami girl walk away and disappear into the distance. Yosei had never seen her before.

`Does she go to our school? She had on a slightly different looking uniform, and I've never even saw her in the halls.' Yosei thought.

It was unusual, and she was about to shout, "I'm Yosei", but Ayami obviously already knew that.

But then again, mostly everyone knew her thanks to Shinishojo. She didn't think this was the case though.

"Oy! Yosei!" Seyamchi was leaning out the window of a limo, waving good-bye as the limo drove off down the street. Yosei had talked to her briefly during lunch, chatting about stuff girls usually do; boys, ambitions, and gossip. She had never done that before, but it felt good to finally be noticed by someone with common interests as her. Maybe things were looking up for her.

"See ya!" she heard herself shout as the limo disappeared out of sight, going down the street. She decided to get going.

Yosei came to school for the next week in a happy mood, hoping each day would be a good day like the day before. She was finally meeting new people and making friends. Maybe High School wouldn't be so bad after all.

"Hey Yosei!" Seyamchi got out of the limo at the gates of the High School. It drove off after she shooed away the driver, insisting she had everything.

"Hello Seyamchi!" Yosei greeted.

"Wow, it's already been a week, and I already consider you a best friend!"

"Huh? Why?"

"Cause you're sooooo cute!" Seyamchi hugged Yosei in a glomp. (Authoress note: A glomp is a tight death grip-killing choke up type of hug…)

"Oh, and because we seem to have a lot in common," Seyamchi added, dropping Yosei to let her breathe.

"In fact, I think I can trust you with this secret I've had for about a week, and I haven't told anyone! It's killing me!!!"

"Really? No one's ever trusted me with a secret before!"

"That's weird, you seem like a quiet person who'd NEVER tell!" Seyamchi stated.

"Really?" Yosei's eyes went sparkly.

"Uh-huh!" Seyamchi gave her a peace sign.

The two walked over to a tree that no one else was near so Seyamchi could reveal the big secret. What they didn't know was that someone was behind it reading a dark poetry book.

"So what's the secret?" Yosei asked eagerly.

The person behind the tree was none other than Shinishojo, reading poetry that no one else seemed to enjoy (maybe because her idea of humor was that of a morbid-er sense than even the great Edgar Allan Poe…). Her ears perked up, hearing Yosei and Seyamchi's voice. She peered around the corner, seeing them.

`A secret eh?' Shinishojo smiled sinisterly.

"Well you see I like this guy, and I noticed you and the others were hanging out with him last week. I think his name is… Joey… Wheeler?" Seyamchi blushed.

"You like HIM?" Yosei asked in disbelief.

"Why? Is there something I should know about him? Is he mean? Is he perverted? Is he both?!" Seyamchi was going crazy.

"No, no… it's just that he's well, I dunno. He's sometimes nice. He used to be a big jerk. But for the past couple weeks he's been okay in my opinion. As for perverted, aren't all guys?"

"Yeah, I guess that's true… but still… oh well, I really like him because he looks nice, and he's cute too…" she sighed dreamily.

"I guess even I can admit that…" Yosei grinned.

Shinishojo snickered to herself, whipping out a piece of paper. `Oh, this is gonna be great!'

She devised a plan in which Joey would receive a note from Seyamchi confessing her love to him. It would embarrass the hell out of both of them! But how to give it to him inconspicuously? Easy. Slip it in his pants pocket and he'll probably check it after gym.

She wrote the not in her best cursive, say: "Dear Joey, I've been wondering if you'd like to go out with me, Seyamchi Kaiba? I've liked you for a week now, and I think it'd be fun to get together and do `something'. Love, Seyamchi Kaiba."

"This way, Joey'll think she's either desperate, or maybe even a slut looking for some… what's the term used these days… `nookie' heheh…" Shinishojo folded the note up and sprayed it with some perfume she had in her backpack. She peered around the tree again to see that Yosei and Seyamchi left the area, and decided to commence the first part of phase 1, operation embarrass Seyamchi.

Shinishojo went over to Yugi, Tristan, and Joey, who were leaning against the wall waiting for the first bell to ring.

"Hey guys! I'm feeling mighty generous today, and I think I want to give you a hug!"

They all looked at her strangely, not expecting that coming from her mouth.

Then she added, "Because I'll never do it again!"

They shrugged as she went over to hug each of them quickly. She hugged Joey last and most carefully, placing the note in his back pocket.

"Well then, I'm gonna go on to class now, ha ha ha!" and she left right away.

"Okay, that was the scariest thing I've ever seen," Tristan said.

"You can say that again," Joey replied.

"Ditto," was Yugi's statement.

(Authoress Note: Gym class is now about to be in session!)

It was gym, 4th period class. It was coed, but obviously the boys and girls had their own spare locker rooms. It would seem by now Shinishojo was ready to reveal her master plan, considering Seyamchi couldn't stop it.

"So Seyamchi, how ya doing?" Shinishojo asked politely, taking off her uniform quickly, considering everyone had seven minutes to get ready for gym, which lasted for fifty minutes.

"Um, good?" Seyamchi was confused. She had never spoken to her before, and with her dark appearance, she was expecting Shinishojo to be more devious with her questions.

"That's nice. Because you won't be after gym…"

"Huh? Why?"

"I know your `secret'…"

"M-my secret?! But I only told Yosei!"

Shinishojo thought about that for a minute. `Hmm, should I ruin my sister's friendship with this twit because I hate her enough already, or should I leave my poor deluded little sister out of this? Choices, choices…'

"Yeah, well, I was by the tree you were talking oh so quietly near. And I just happen to have very good hearing…"

"W-what did you do? Did you tell him?!" she demanded.

"Nah, no fun in that. Rather, I planted a note in his back pocket, and I'm pretty sure he'll check it after gym. And when he reads it, he'll know. And that means you'll be ruined…"

"Ahhh!!!!" Seyamchi cried.

"But… I think I have a way you can prevent that…"

`If I could get her to sneak into the boys locker room and retrieve it, and her get caught, that would be pure bliss to see such a sweet young girl get in trouble for peeking…' Shinishojo thought.

"Tell me! I'll do anything, anything!"

"Well, if you think you can manage, you could sneak into the boy's locker room and snatch it from his locker…" Shinishojo said, pulling out her gym uniform, a black and bulky sweatshirt (she's anorexic, remember?) and a pair of black capris.

"But what if he has a lock?"

"The code is 696. Trust me. I'm his pal, and all of his locks have that code. Besides, his locker number is 69, so it's easy to remember…"

"Ah…" Seyamchi sweatdropped, "but what if I get caught?"

"All the more thrilling…"

"Why did you do that? Do you think it's funny to mess with other people's emotions?"

"Actually, it's funny to mess with your emotions, because you're a rich twit. Therefore, I don't like you. You're lucky I gave you that idea in the first place. But you're going to have to figure out when to pull it off. After all, skipping gym could go on your record… but fake getting hurt to go inside and get it would be a better idea. Oh my, I've said too much. I'm just giving you my brilliant ideas. Well, I must be going, ta-ta!"

Shinishojo doubled back a moment, to say one last thing. "And if I were you, I'd get someone to go with me…"

And so, Shinishojo left the dumbfounded Seyamchi to try and figure out a way into the boy's locker room without getting caught.

XOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOX

"Yosei, you've got to help me!!!" Seyamchi cried, running over to the other side of the girl's locker room while pulling up her shorts.

"Huh, what?" Yosei pulled on her tang top, a bit startled at Seyamchi's appearance.

"I'm in dire need of help!!!"

"Uh, well, I can see that, because your shorts are backwards…" Yosei commented.

Seyamchi looked down and blushed, then automatically fixed them.

"No, I mean your evil sister knows my secret!"

"What, how?!"

"She was near that tree that I thought no one was by!"

"Oh. That's not good."

"Exactly! And she put a note in Joey's pants for him to find out!"

"Oh no! We got to get it back! But how…?"

"We have to sneak in there when the guys are outside!"

"What, but we'll have to be outside too!"

"Don't worry, I have a plan…"

***~~~***~~~***~~~***~~~***~~~***~~~***~~~***~~~***~~~***~~~***~ ~~***

The two girls went out to join the others, as they were about to start a game of soccer. The boys were all out too, stretching and getting ready with the girls. Some of the boys weren't actually stretching, but they were more focused on the girl's points of flexibility.

Joey was one of those boys.

"Hey Yugi, Tristan, check them girls out…" he pointed at Yosei and Seyamchi, who were going leg stretches. Yugi blushed a bit, and Tristan merely smiled in agreement.

"What are you two looking at?" Shinishojo yanked both of their ears.

"Ah, nothing!" Tristan cried.

"Oh really? Well that's dandy. I'm going to go back and do my stretches now. And if either one of you sacks of bladder look at me, I'll be making sure that your ears are getting some exercise too; after I rip them off!"

She stomped off in a flurry.

"Well, she's back to normal!" Yugi grinned nervously.

Joey and Tristan held their ears and sighed.

The coaches came out, blowing their whistles to make everyone assemble into their teams. Boys vs. Girls today. A half hour into the game, Seyamchi kicked the ball as hard as she could and made it look very convincing that she hurt her ankle badly in the process.

"Ow-ow-ow-ow-ow!!!" she cried.

"Seyamchi, your ankle! It looks like it's been sprained!" Yosei said, as everyone else crowded around her.

"Yeah, it looks really bad coach…" Shinishojo smiled.

"Alright, let's have a look here… hmm, it looks like it might swell. You two-" the female coach pointed at Shinishojo and Yosei, "-take her to the nurse."

`Seyamchi, I hope ya get better,' Joey thought shyly, not able to say it aloud, as Shinishojo and Yosei helped Seyamchi to her feet. They walked slowly to the door that was nearest the locker rooms.

"Success!" Seyamchi said as they closed the doors.

"Now to go into the forbidden zone…" Yosei looked up at the boy's door.

"I don't know about you girls, but I'm not going in there. In fact, in a moment I'll be taking off back outside," Shinishojo sneered.

"Shini this is all your fault! We should make you go in there and get it!" Yosei said.

"What're you going to do about it?" Shinishojo towered over Yosei. For once, it was intimidating.

"Forget her Yosei, we can do it."

"What are you saying?! We're going into a forbidden area! A place where the boys get dressed! A place where they leave their clothes! A place where it doesn't smell so pleasant, and probably messier too!"

"And your point is? It's not like we'll be long. We have approximately twenty minutes, which is plenty of time for us to just walk right in and… wait! We can't just waltz right in there!"

"Duh, isn't that like, what Yosei's been saying?" Shinishojo remarked sarcastically.

"No, I mean, what if someone is in there? We need to get in an alternate way…" Seyamchi looked up.

"Bingo."

"What?" Yosei asked.

"The vents! We can go in through the vents, then we find the row that has 69, and we drop in, open the locker quietly, take the note, and we go back and say my sprained ankle was a false alarm!"

"Brilliant," Shinishojo rolled her eyes, "I think I'll stick around long enough to see you get caught…"

"We won't get caught. Actually, with the way Seyamchi executes it orally, we should be able to do that in less than fifteen minutes!"

"Good. Let's go then. Yosei, I'll give you a boost, and Shinishojo, you can help me get up there while Yosei grabs me!"

"Whatever…"

Seyamchi and Shinishojo managed to get Yosei up to vent by standing on them. Then Shinishojo gave Seyamchi a boost to get her up there, Yosei pulling Seyamchi up. It wasn't easy and it took about five minutes.

"Damn, time isn't on our side."

"Don't worry, we have fifteen minutes left," Yosei said optimistically.

"I guess I'll be lookout… actually, I'm just staying to see if this'll work," Shinishojo admitted.

"Thanks a lot…" Seyamchi rolled her eyes.

The two girls ventured through the vents as slow as they could go without wasting too much time. They didn't have time, but they had to be as quiet as possible. Finally, they got out through a vent about the row that had the forties in it.

"Close, but not close enough…" Seyamchi muttered.

"Seyamchi… I'm scared…" Yosei whispered.

"Me too… duck!"

The two darted to the ground, seeing that one of the other coaches was in the office, chatting on the phone.

"Crap, that was too close… Come on, let's go find his locker," Seyamchi and Yosei crawled over the next two rows; stopping when they suspected the guy was looking.

Finally they made it, with five minutes to spare.

"Okay, this is it…"

Seyamchi opened it, finding his pants sloppily thrown in. She searched the back pockets, but no avail.

"It's not here! Do you think he read it… and then threw it out?" Seyamchi nearly cried.

"No, look, it's right here! It must've fallen out, because it hasn't been opened yet!"

The paper was folded up tightly, lying on the floor.

"Get it!"

Yosei picked it up and gave it to Seyamchi, who immediately ripped it in half, and then into confetti pieces. She threw them into the conveniently placed nearby garbage can.

"Now come on, we have two minutes to get out of here!"

They ran back to the vent on tiptoe, and sprinted into the vent, just as the first set of guys came in, sweaty and tired.

"Hold on Yosei…"

"What, are you nuts? We'll get busted if we don't get out of here now! The guys always go in before the girls, so we have a few more minutes!"

"But aren't you curious?"

"About what?!"

Seyamchi smirked, and crawled further down to the vent nearest to Joey's locker. Yosei reluctantly followed.

"Seyamchi…"

"Just a peek…"

Yosei blushed as Joey, Yugi, and Tristan came in tired and sweaty, pulling off their shirts and taking off their shorts.

"Oh my gosh…" Seyamchi's jaw dropped.

Yosei covered her virgin eyes. She peeked for a spilt second and wanted to go.

"Can we go now?" Yosei whispered.

"…Yes…" Seyamchi and Yosei scooted out of there in a moment, but as the two went to turn around, the floor beneath them shook, and deliberately crumbled and fell. All the guys looked at them as the two girls as they tried to regain consciousness. A few seconds later Yosei and Seyamchi came to, with a whole bunch of the guys laughing (Tristan), others covering themselves up (Yugi), and others doing both (Joey).

And all Yosei could say was, "I'm blaming you…"

XOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOX

(Authoress note: / and \ is otherworldly beings talking in a voice that only one person can hear at a time… like a creepy voice by something not human calling out, and is not seen.)

After a long discussion of how Yosei and Seyamchi got up there in the first place and why (not to mention the bribing with money), the two got off lucky with a warning, rather than the next two weeks of Saturday's in detention. Yosei and Seyamchi were relieved and decided never to do that again. As for Shinishojo, who got in trouble for `ditching' while being lookout, got detention next week on Saturday.

Yosei believed she deserved a whole lot more than that, but she made Shinishojo promise not to reveal Seyamchi's secret and to never do anything like that ever again. So for now, Seyamchi's secret was safe. Although Yosei was trying to convince Seyamchi to tell him herself rather than wait. It was hopeless.

So the next week came and went, the group getting closer. Yosei even got to talk more with the girl she knew as Ayami, who went to Domino High School only sometimes. This was because, Yosei learned, that Ayami was a very sick girl and oftentimes was too weak to go to school. So on days she couldn't go, she had home tutoring.

But other than that, on days Yosei could see her, her and Ayami went to the mall to hang out. Seyamchi joined in the fun sometimes. It was wonderful having friends now, Yosei felt, and hoped that nothing would ever come between either of them. She also hoped that they'd all live happily as best friends forever, safe and sound. Too good to be true, which is why fate and destiny are always there to ruin that…

It was already close to October, and Yosei had grown accustomed to the people around her. She was happy as she could ever be in her life. Even Shinishojo was becoming nicer to her. She still didn't like Seyamchi for whatever reason, but seemed okay with Ayami.

Anyway, it was the beginning of another day, a cold, crisp autumn day. The orange leaves swirled in the air, passing Yosei as she walked alone to school. Sometimes she'd walk with her sister. Sometimes Ayami would catch up. And other times, Joey, Yugi, and Tristan would drop by to see Shinishojo, and Yosei'd tag along with them when they walked.

Today was different, and by the change in weather so suddenly, dropping from seventy degrees to forty in a flash was unusual for late September. Yosei shivered, pausing to pull up her floppy long socks.

"Geez, it got could fast… brrrrr," she shivered, walking again.

/Yosei...\

She stopped dead in her tracks. Looking around frantically, she thought she had heard a small and raspy voice. Paranoid? Her? Never.

/Yosei...\

"Who's there?" she whispered, asking in a hushed voice. Definitely paranoid.

/Yosei...\

The voice was coming from a nearby alley she figured, turning around to glance at the empty passage. The tone of voice sounded ghostly... almost inhuman...

`Okay, maybe I'm paranoid, but I'm not crazy. I'm just imagining it... it's all in my head...' she thought.

She kept telling herself this, but the voice announced otherwise.

/Come into the nearby alley... you will see me there...\

The voice was a bit clearer this time. It sounded like a man to her, although she wasn't sure. So off to the dark alley she went, curiosity getting the best of her. Stepping into it slowly, she walked deeper into the depths of the passageway, seeing nothing yet.

"Show yourself!" Yosei broke into the silence.

A huge gust of wind aroused from the dead end of the alley, where she could barely see a shape rustle about in the shadows. She could hear light footsteps coming toward her; she was in the middle of the alley, and it was a further walk from the end to the place where she stood than she thought.

Finally, the moment had come where Yosei could see the one who was calling out to her.

"W-who's there?" Yosei demanded, her voice stuttering.

She could make out the form of a person... but this person did not look ordinary. In fact, as he stepped into sight, she could plainly see that the being was not human. But Yosei remained motionless, not showing any signs of running. Never said she was a coward mind you; She's just shy sometimes.

"My name is Doma, dear Yosei..." he said with an even clearer voice than before, but it still had a raspy deep tone to it.

'Doma...? Where have I heard that name before?' she pondered to herself a bit before looking up at him.

"Do you not know who I am?" he thundered at her, making her look up at him immediately.

She remained silent, but fearless, observing the creature. He held the upright posture of a human, but rather than standing, he was now hovering a couple inches above the ground. His feet, or better yet, his bird-like feet, complete with talons, were very sturdy in appearance, looking as if they'd make a clean kill in a death grip. He had two sets of wings; two demon wings above two dark angelic wings. His eyes were gleaming blood red, darker than the red on his suit, which was a deep red itself.

"Well?" he hissed impatiently.

"No..." she lied in an attempt to answer him quickly.

`Wait. He's... a... a... monster? A Duel Monster? That can't be... maybe I'm wrong. I hope I'm wrong. I hope I'm not crazy...' she told herself.

"Tell me young one... what if I were to tell you, that I'm here on a mission?" he asked suddenly, looking into her eyes and smirking slightly.

"Well, I'd be sort of... curious as to what it was..." she answered in a hushed voice.

"Would you now?" he questioned vilely, his smirk turning into a toothy grin. His teeth, as she could see, were razor sharp. Yosei shuddered a bit, as it felt suddenly even more chilly.

"Um... yeah..." she replied, this apparently being the wrong answer, as she saw Doma raise his hand, and unfurled it from the fist he held; a glowing, grayish colored orb lay in his hand. It re-shaped into a pointy object, sharp pieces of dangerously sharp metal protruding from the sides. It took on the shape of a spear, she thought to herself, recognizing the weapon as the glowing turned into a radiant, yet dull gleam.

"Wha-what's your mission?" Yosei finally gathered a bit of courage to ask. Her throat went dry, and it was getting hard to breathe with all the tension.

But Doma laughed to himself, thinking this was a stupid question. It was.

"Do you know what they call me, in the lands where no living being can exist, and only spirits roam the lands, scouring for a taste of energy?" he inquired her, his eyes darkening to an even more evil gleam.

"You're..." she paused, remembering his full name, "...Doma, the Angel of Silence..." she finished, looking slightly perplexed.

"Yes... and do you know why they call me that...?" he asked darkly, raising his weapon, pointing it at the very scared girl.

"N-no..." she answered stupidly. Yosei knew why; but it hadn't dawned upon her to answer him correctly at that moment.

"Then you're about to find out!" he shouted, jumping into the air, lunging for her, a shrill war cry escaped from his lips. Yosei prepared to run, falling to the ground, ready to meet her doom as she dropped her backpack and curled into a ball, but she could hear he was stopped by the sudden lack of his scream. She was on the ground still, hands over her head, awaiting death, but then the war cry was replaced rather with a choke, a hard sounding smack and then a loud thud to the ground.

Yosei trembled a bit, standing up to look over at Doma, whose assault had failed; he had been knocked to the ground with full force. Above him, from what she could see in the darkness, there sat a cat-like creature. It purred a bit, let out a small meow, and then stood up on it's hind legs, fluttering it's two small fairy wings on it's back to help retain balance.

It was a fascinating creature, human, but a cattish creature. It wore barely any clothing, only covering her crotch and her breasts. As slutty as it appeared, it was still a beautiful sight to see to those who admired cats and its sleek body, in colors of silver fur, and few purple clothing...

"I see Nekogal was right," a voice penetrated through the darkness. Yosei looked up to see where the voice was coming from. On the small store building roof, whose back faced the alley, stood a mysterious looking girl. Her spiky, yet floppy, violet hair flowed gracefully in the wind. Her dark, yet calm looking light blue eyes shone through the shadows.

"What's going on?!" Yosei demanded, her voice shaky, yet somehow controlled. She was angry, but she wanted answers.

"That's what I'd like to know..." replied the girl, shrugging her shoulders.

"What do you mean? I've just been attacked by some demonic like creature, and then that thing-" Yosei pointed at the cat creature, which was busy playing with the razor blade on its tail, "-saved me!"

"On your order!" she added quickly.

"My order? Oh no, Nekogal acts on her own accord; I may be her master, but she acts on her own when there's danger..." the girl explained vaguely.

"Nekogal?" Yosei asked myself aloud.

She knew that was a Duel Monster, but she couldn't believe it. Living, talking, breathing, actual real monsters. Crazy.

The girl jumped from the roof to the railing near the back door, making a small clatter of noise. Yosei looked at her startled. She was covered from neck down in a cloak that hid everything but her head. The cloak was a silvery color.

`Is she messing with me?'

"Well..." the girl continued from her last sentence, ignoring her unheard question, "...you should at the very least be thankful that she has such an amazing sense of smell..." the mysterious girl said, jumping off the short railing and onto the cold ground. She walked silently over to the place where the so-called Nekogal was sitting. The girl extended her arm out and the Nekogal meowed happily, rubbing her head upon the girl's arm.

`Am I going nuts? No one will believe this! I'm not believing this! But of course, who would?'

The girl's eyes were familiar; as if they belonged to someone Yosei met before... She wasn't sure though...

"You're time is soon, to save your world as well as ours..." the girl said.

"Wait! Are you... Ayami?" Yosei wasn't sure if this was a bright question, as the girl only looked somewhat like her. Her hair was violet like her eyes, and spiked up rather unnaturally. Her eyes glittered with a light blue brilliance like Ayami's hair. She said nothing.

"Who-or what are you?" Yosei asked, as she began to walk towards her.

"I'm neither friend nor foe, and my name is frozen snow... I'll just tell you this much; you must be precautious from here on out. From what I can see, Doma was here on a mission to annihilate you, so you're going to need all the protection you can get..." the girl paused, then began to hover in the air, energy emanating from her body. An incantation came from her lips, uttering it in a ghostly matter. The words to Yosei were foreign and ancient; she had never heard this language before.

Yosei could see an aura of energy swivel around the girl, transporting a portion of it into her body; she could feel a rush of heat as the energy entered her. She closed her eyes, awaiting the next thing that would happen. But nothing did. What she didn't realize was that the surge of energy made her pass out. And soon enough, she was now lying on the cold alley ground, staring up into the eyes of three curious boys.

"Ahhh!" she screamed, sitting up immediately.

"What happened to ya?"

Her eyes focused onto who was asking the question. It was Joey. How ironic. Tristan and Yugi were with him too.

"We heard you screaming down the block a few minutes ago and saw you passed out on the floor. You've been out like a light bulb for like, five minutes!" Tristan exclaimed.

"And if you didn't wake up soon, we were going to take you to the nearest hospital," Yugi explained.

"Oh... did you guys see anything unusual around here before you found me?" Yosei asked, hoping they would have. But they shook their heads.

"We saw nothing. Just you. Why? What happened?" Tristan asked. Not worriedly, but more curiously. Maybe he was itching for a fight.

But Yosei didn't understand it.

'They saw nothing? Didn't they even hear anything? I wasn't out that long, and there must be a trace of that girl and the Nekogal and that freaky guy somewhere. But his body is gone...'

"Um, well, I thought I saw something, and then I felt this hit on my head," she quickly lied, "and I think I just passed out." They looked at her strange, but they bought it. She wouldn't have believed it if she were them. She almost thought of herself as just a suspicious person. Better suspicious than dead.

"Well, your bag is over here-is anything missing?" Yugi asked.

Yosei took the bag, looking through it. But nothing was taken surprisingly. She shook her head no.

"Well, I guess we better get going to school then, huh?"

"Yeah, sure…" Joey said. The two boys nodded, helping her up, and they continued on their way.

"Hey, where's Shini?" Yosei inquired.

"She wasn't home when we went to get her. Neither were you. We figured we'd catch up. Still no sign of Shinishojo though…" Yugi explained.

"Dat makes me worry…" Joey said.

But they eventually found her, Joey relieved. They then continued on to school, and made it just in time. The day went by fast, and Yosei walked home with no one again, but was even more careful to not run into that Doma guy again. All day he was on her mind, and why he wanted to kill her. She should have told someone about him, but she felt no one would believe her, as trustworthy as she was. You can never win when it comes to complete trust.

And so, the day ended with nothing more worth mentioning.

(Authoress note: The next day…)

The next day came, light from the rising sun poured itself into Yosei's room, awakening her almost immediately. The sun was her alarm clock, even in the deepest, darkest, and coldest of winter months, light still found its way into her room, dancing upon her fragile face, waking her from slumber. She had felt yesterday to be a dream, and maybe if she forgot about it, she thought in high hopes, then maybe no one would have to know.

"Besides, it probably was a guy in a wacked up, but cool looking suit, to look like Doma's. But what about that girl? She looked oddly like Ayami. But her hair was spiked, and different colors so they couldn't have been the same..." Yosei said aloud.

She shrugged.

'Whatever...' she decided.

"Good morning daddy!" she beamed to a small picture frame on her dresser with the image of a tall handsome man with black hair and neon green eyes. Every morning, it was like a tradition to say 'Good morning' to him, as if he were still here with the Shiai family. He had disappeared shortly after Yosei was born, never to be seen again, so she had obviously barely knew him. But from what her mother had told her, he was a very responsible, smart, and loving man.

Shinishojo never spoke of him, so Yosei never knew her aspect on him. But whenever he was mentioned at holidays or other special occasions, Shinishojo seemed to sneer at his name. That is what it seemed like to Yosei.

'There's always the chance I'll meet him someday-if he comes back!' she kept telling herself in younger years, but those chances were unfortunately slim to none now. So she dressed quickly, always ready before the sun rose completely. Today, little did she know, that today was bound to be an adventure she'd never forget...

Yosei walked downstairs, and went outside to check the mail. Yosei nearly stumbled over the box sitting on the top step. Correction: boxes. They were addressed to Shinishojo and Yosei, two separate boxes with a blank unknown address in the 'from' category box. Were they safe to open? Yosei took her box and shook it carefully. She was uncertain, but being curious, she opened it. Foolish, but oh well. Naiveté and curiosity gets the best of a girl of thirteen sometimes.

Cards. Lots and lots of cards was what Yosei found.

They all spilled out in packs, all Duel Monsters. They were unopened for Yosei to tear apart. She screamed with delight and brought her box and Shinishojo's inside. She placed Shinishojo's box on the kitchen table and vigorously began opening her packs.

She held one up, a light blue one with a Dark Magician on the cover of it. Pulling off the wrapper, slowly the nine cards in the pack were as follows:

Fairy's Gift [1400/1000] (Normal monster card)

Witch's Apprentice [550/500] (Effect monster card)

Dancing Fairy [1700/1000] (Effect monster card)

Spirit of the Breeze [0/1800] (Effect monster card)

The Forgiving Maiden [850/2000] (Effect monster card)

Malevolent Nuzzler [Magic] (Magic card)

Change of Heart [Magic] (Magic card)

Enchanted Javelin [Trap] (Trap card)

Gift of the Mystical Elf [Trap] (Trap card)

The card that caught her most interest though was Change of Heart. The picture was that of a female, half-angel, half-demon, and it was so very (no other word for it) cool. And its effect was very appealing to her as well: 'Select and control one opposing monster (regardless of position) on the field until the end of your turn.'

'Whoa... so I could control someone else's creature temporarily, and put it on my side? That's just too awesome!' she thought.

The other cards were cool as well, and she began to open even more of her packs. When they were all opened, she constructed a deck to her liking in a jiffy. Luckily, she had her actual deck with her, and decided to modify them both gradually into one. Yosei was satisfied and even more curious as to who would send her this many packs of cards. Surely, all these packs must have cost over a hundred dollars altogether. Or maybe more.

Now Yosei was curious as to what was in Shinishojo's box. She'd kill her even if all she did were peek in it. But it was still very early, and she didn't wake up for another twenty minutes. `Darn her late sleeping habits,' Yosei shrugged. She was itching for the box, but stopped herself by going over her cards and reading their effects. She must have modified her deck twenty hundred times before Shinishojo came downstairs hungry and grumpy. Not a good combo. Shinishojo was still in her pajamas even.

She walked down the stairs in a lazy slither, and came over to the table. Seeing Yosei with a chock load of cards, she finally asked in a grouchy, irritated voice, "What the Hell-where'd you get all those?!"

"I dunno. When I went to check the mail, I found these boxes addressed to us-" Yosei held up her box, "-and I got a whole lot of cards!"

"Gimme that!" she snatched it. No surprise. She tore it open, and a whole load of cards spilled onto the ground.

"Geez, someone must have been very rich to have supplied us with these-but I'm not complaining!"

She opened her packs quicker than Yosei did, and found satisfaction in her cards. She whipped together a deck in two minutes.

"Do you even know what your cards do?"

"Nope. I think they're just neat looking..."

Yosei sighed. Well, that was Shinishojo for you-do before you think.

"Hey, what's this?" she picked up her box and two more items fell out. One of them looked like a large stone square unevenly cut in half with an unusual design on it. The other item looked like a key, with two vines wrapped and curled into the holes of it. At the bottom of the vines had little crescent moons and black roses. The long part of the key had writing on it they couldn't decipher.

"What the heck is this stuff?"

"Looks like a key right there," Yosei said.

"No kidding," Shinishojo rolled her eyes. She went over to Yosei's box and shook it. Another shard came out, looking equal to the one in Shinishojo's box. Another key as well. Yosei's was the exactly the same as Shinishojo's, except her designs were suns instead of moons, and the roses were white.

"Coincidence?" Yosei asked.

"I think not," Shinishojo replied. They looked at each other and laughed nervously.

"What do YOU think?" Yosei asked her.

"I dunno. What do YOU think?" she asked Yosei. She shrugged, and put the pieces next to each other. They glowed in response.

"Did ya see that?" she asked.

"Yeah..." Yosei muttered, putting them together completely. The pieces melded together, creating a fully united shard. The designs on there weren't designs; they were lines depicting a map, which was what it was. But of a land Yosei didn't know. And Shinishojo didn't have a clue either. The land looked like it was a land with the shapes of a sun, a moon, and a star. On the shard Yosei also noticed, had two places for their keys, and called to Yosei to put them in there. Yosei had a bad feeling about it, but the urge was almost tempting. She stopped herself, hearing Shinishojo.

"Wait. Don't do anything yet. Maybe we shouldn't touch it anymore. I don't know about you, but I get a bad vibe from it," Shinishojo said in a whisper. Yosei had to sadly agree. This map was calling out to her, and most likely Shinishojo, but they both knew it was probably a bad thing. Suddenly, a knock on the door startled Shinishojo and Yosei into nearly dropping it. Joey, Tristan, and Yugi all barged in through the kitchen backdoor. That door was always unlocked, as every other morning Joey, Yugi, and Tristan helped themselves inside.

End of the prologue!!! Woot! Long isn't it? Yeah well it is… and this is only a prologue? OMG! Are you asking me, "do you mean there's more?" Well yes there is! And I will post it up if anyone likes the idea so far. It hasn't got the entire plot going yet, this is just setting up for the good stuff.
