TWO
Shivering heavily he sat upon the curve on the sidewalk. Sirens flashed around him furiously, while the sound of constant chatter and the heavy footsteps of the police as they paced about checking and repairing the damage to the house from the shoot out. His friends stood off to the side, two police officers interviewing them on what had transpired. Bakura and Ryou had recently come by after Yugi had called them telling them about what had happened. So far no one had come to say anything to him except to make sure that he was alright. Event he police had spoken very little to him, this startled him because he was the victim in this case.
Heaving a sigh he closed his eyes and wrapped the blanket that had been given to him tighter around his shoulders, he was freezing cold and desperate to go back inside and curl up on the couch with a cup of hot tea. But he was allowed no such comfort. The police had wanted him to remain in their sight while they tried to find out as much as they could. Shivering he glanced back over his shoulder, the police officer that had helped him away was standing nearby, glancing at him constantly confirming that he was alright before he continued talking to Anzu who was doing more flirting than anything.
Opening his eyes he glanced down at the rod in his hands, the cool metal not helping the numbness that was slowly spreading through him. He could have used this, along with the puzzle. It had been so long since he had actually used his powers that he had nearly forgotten about them. Now as he stared at the cold golden millennium items he growled deeply and pressed his brow against the flat of the rod, the situation would never have turned out like this if he had only used these damned items.
“Are you alright,” asked a familiar deep voice from behind. Straightening himself out Yami nodded as Bakura sat down beside him, the former thief had lightened up per say over the past while and like many others in the group had shown their friendlier side. Heaving a sigh Bakura wrapped an arm around Yami's shoulders, “you've forgotten about them too huh”.
Yami glanced up at him and nodded once he realized what Bakura was referring to, “it has been so long since I have used them that I have become so accustomed to fighting with my bare hands, it is an immense difference. You are the only one that would really understand that. In Egypt even though we do not remember everything, we remember the basic everyday living styles that we both ran. Our weapons were swords; daggers, arrows and the like, those now a days are useless against guns. As well the fighting styles are different, in our time it was about skill and agility, here it is about being able to form a large group and then attack a single person when they are on their own.
“Society has become almost cowardly over the past few thousand years, so much so that it is almost overwhelming, I have to admit some of the things that go on in this day and age frighten me,” Yami expounded rubbing his thumb absently over the rod's smooth surface.
Grunting Bakura nodded, “I agree, even I'm sceptical about going outside alone; I refuse to let Ryu go out alone, it's too dangerous”.
“Besides,” Yami said shaking his head, “those men were twice my size, each holding a gun in their hands. I did not stand a chance with hand to hand combat, none of us did really. No matter what I did they would have shot the others, they know what it looks like when we try and use our powers, they would simply shoot”.
“I hear you,” said Bakura kneeling down in front of the pharaoh on the street, “maybe we should try and freshen up our skills, what do you say we train together or something”.
Crimson eyes brightened at the idea, “that's the smartest thing I have heard come out of your mouth in a long time,” Yami teased.
“So, is that a yes,” persisted Bakura.
“Indubitably,” Yami answered, “once I recover from this we can begin. I have way too many broken ribs to be starting any type of physical training”.
“True enough,” chuckled the former tomb robber as he rose to his feet, “I'll be checking up on you and Yugi, take care alright and watch out, I think that this may be the worst fight we have ever been in”.
Yami watched as Bakura strode off, pushing his way through the police offices to where Ryu stood speaking to Yugi and Anzu. Insistently Bakura ushered Ryu away from the two friends and off down the street towards their home. Crimson eyes blinked tiredly before a yawn escaped his lips, exhaustion was finally fully creeping over him. Scowling slightly he turned to stare over at Seto whom was speaking gently to Mokuba, reassuring him by the seams of things. The younger Kaiba had not taken the recent incident well, and him being tired was not making his emotions any less dramatic. Seto appeared to be exhausted, his eyes were clouded with sleep, and his shoulders were slouched deeply.
Heaving a sigh Yami forced himself to his feet and clutching the rod to his torso strode over to the two brothers, “Mokuba,” he said in a gentle voice, the younger Kaiba glanced up at him with deep grey eyes puffy and red from tears, “let's get you to bed, it's been a long night”.
“But Yami what if they come back,” insisted Mokuba.
“They won't,” Yami assured, “they have caused too much commotion to even consider returning for a few days or weeks. It would be too dangerous for them to return tonight, so come along and allow your brother to breathe”. With that Mokuba glanced at his brother who nodded at him as if confirming that it was alright, with a deep breath he allowed Yami to lead him back into the house. After tucking the thirteen-year-old in Yami retrieved himself and Seto a glass of hot tea before returning to the bitter cold outside.
Shivering he found Seto sitting down on the curb where he had been moments before, biting lip while trying to subside his shivers he strode over to him and sitting down pressed one of the steaming cups into the CEO's hands. Blue eyes glanced up at him briefly before their owner smiled at him and took a sip of the tea, satisfied Yami pulled his blanket tighter around him before almost frantically gulping down the tea. The hot liquid poured down his throat, pooled in his stomach and heated his body. Purring at the sensation he closed his eyes enjoying the moments that he was actually able to relax.
Feeling a strong arm wrap around his shoulders he glanced up at Seto and smiled warmly at him before willingly snuggling into his side, the cold quickly leaving him entirely. The base of the rod in its halter at his side dug into his thigh aggravating him to the point where he had to shift it while trying to stay against the heat that Seto was giving to him. Hearing a soft chuckle he glanced up at the CEO, “what,” he questioned.
“I take it that you are cold,” he teased before holding the former Pharaoh tighter, Yami glared at him briefly before heaving a sigh and nodding. Silence enveloped them again and they stared out at the street in front of them, the odd car passed by them the passengers peeking out the windows at the scene.
Finally the Police officers announced that they would be leaving to allow them to sleep, they would be back during the day in the afternoon to continue the clean up and the investigation. Watching the car pull away Seto realized that Yami had yet to move throughout the entire commotion. Glancing down at his friend as Yugi and Grandpa came towards them he smiled; Yami had fallen asleep curled up against him, his mouth slightly open and his breath gently playing with a loose bang that had dropped into his face. Gently Seto lifted Yami into his arms and turned towards the two, they shook their heads before smiling warmly.
Carrying Yami into the house he felt his heart beating madly in his chest, the feeling of Yami this close against him was wonderful. Yugi pulled back the covers on Yami's bed before Seto laid him down on the mattress with loving care, placing a small kiss to Yami's brow he pulled the covers up over his petite body. Yugi winked at him knowingly, him being the only one that knew about how he really felt towards the Pharaoh.
Whispering a good night Seto vacated the room and returned to the blanket and pillow that he had been using originally in the living room. Joey and the others had left to head back home since the power had come back on, and well, the Motou residence was slightly maimed. Making sure that Mokuba was firmly covered with the blankets he curled up on the couch, with one final glanced at the open doorway that led into Yami and Yugi's room Seto smile before allowing his body to drift off to sleep.

After a long discussion with the police officers and the detective that had arrived early in the afternoon it was agreed upon that Yami, Yugi, and Grandpa had to live somewhere while the police finished repairing their home. Yami had been sleeping through the entire conversation s when Yugi went upstairs to pack he was a little startled with the idea of the two of them staying with Seto and Mokuba, while Grandpa was with Arthur.
Changing into a pair of jeans and a tee-shirt Yami stretched his arms into the air, yawning he glanced over at Yugi who was whistling as he packed his bag, “someone seems to be in a cheery mood considering what just transpired”.
Yugi glanced at him and shrugged, “unlike you I'm trying not to think about it,” he said throwing a jacket at his darker half, “now hurry up and get packed, Seto will be picking us up soon”. Crocking a brow Yami pulled on the jacket before pulling a duffle bag out of the closet and beginning to neatly placing clothing into it. After finishing packing is clothing and person hygiene products he quickly made sure that his backpack was packed with a few books and all of his school supplies along with CDs and his walkman.
As he followed Yugi down the stairs he felt the pounding in his head and torso return, he had been so busy to notice it before. Giving out a small groan he stopped in the middle of the stairs and placed his hand over his brow, “I hate concussions,” he growled out feeling Yugi place a hand upon his shoulder.
“I've never had one so I would not know,” Yugi said gently, “come on lets go slow so that you don't get dizzy”. Nodding Yami took the rest of the stairs one step at a time, once he stepped into the game shop he found Seto and Grandpa talking leisurely out in front of the shattered windows. Seeing the wreckage and the men that were slowly cleaning it up he bit his lip, all of this was his fault.
Feeling the guilt run through their link Yugi wrapped his arms around his friend, “It's not your fault,” he whispered, “It's alright trust me, they won't get you, we'll make sure of that”.
“No its not, they are ten times worse than anyone we have ever faced,” Yami murmured into Yugi's jacket.
Sighing Yugi pulled back, “don't worry, we'll beat them just like we have everyone else”.
“I'm not so sure,” Yami said with uncertainty, “these people are different, they use weapons before they use magic. As well, instead of targeting our friends, they are going straight after me. I do not think that this fight will be easy, nor in anyway similar to all the other battles that we have been in. Yugi, this is the first group that has actually made me feel afraid”.
“They frighten me too Yami,” Yugi said gently, “but just remember we are not in this alone, everyone else is there to help us”.
Yami turned his head away suppressing a moan from the pounding in his head, “that's what I am afraid of, I do not wish to see someone hurt or killed because of me. But what else concerns me is Bakura; they are after the ring as well. Both him and I are in the most danger at the moment”.
Heaving a sigh Yugi nodded in agreement before shifting the straps of his backpack and duffle bag, “I know, and that scares me right now, I don't want to loose either of you. But you especially, you're like an older brother to me Yami, I don't know what I would do without you now that we are so close”.
Gently Yami rubbed Yugi's shoulder comfortingly, “you will not loose us,” he assured.
“Promise,” Yugi asked.
“I cannot make promises that I may not be able to keep,” he reminded before pulling Yugi against him again, “but I will fight my hardest to make sure that they never take me away from you, that I can promise you”.
Yugi smiled, “I'll fight along side you all the way, no lets get going before Grandpa gets impatient,” the two of them chuckled, Yami winced and smiled at Yugi before the two of them left the house.
Turning to the two of them Grandpa smiled, “I was wondering when the two of you would be ready,” he teased before slipping into the limo, “hurry along now, I”. Seto chuckled at him before leading the two of them to the trunk of the limo; placing their luggage carefully in there they closed it up and clambered into the limo.
“Thank you for doing this Seto, it means a lot,” said Yugi with a bright smile.
Seto winked at him, “no problem, it would be better anyway to have someone else at the house, it gets kind of lonely with just Mokuba and I sometimes”.
Chuckling brightly Grandpa leaned back in his seat, “well with all four of you youngsters in the same home it will never be boring”.
“True enough,” agreed Seto.
“Is Rebecca going to be there,” questioned Yugi.
Shaking his head Grandpa stared at Yami whom was staring out the window beside him, “she's at university until July, the house will be free save for the two of us gold geezers,” seeing Yami rub his temple Grandpa shook his head, “lay down when you arrive Yami, have a cold cloth with you, it's the only way to deal with that concussion of yours”. With that Yami glanced up briefly at him trying not to move too fast, he nodded before closing his eyes and continuing to rub his brow.
Shifting over Seto pulled Yami's hands away before placing his own digits there, Yami glanced up at him in surprise before closing his eyes in bliss, Seto was much better at that then he was. Moaning he leaned forward and rested his head lightly on Seto's broad shoulder, “thank you”.
“You're welcome,” murmured Seto after receiving a small wink from Yugi, “now relax, it's about a half hour drive to my place from here through rush hour traffic”. Yami moaned out a response before full relaxing against Seto. Grandpa smiled warmly before exchanging glances with Yugi, his grandson smiled at him before turning his attention back to the two friends. This was going to be an interesting two weeks.

After receiving an ice pack from Mokuba Yami retired upstairs with Seto while Yugi and Mokuba took over the game cube. Plopping down onto the small couch in the study Yami unfolded a blanket at his feet and draped it over his body while Seto sat down at the desk, the CEO smiled at him as Yami place the pack over his brow, “supper will be in about two hours, do you want me to wake you up then”.
“That would be nice Seto, I need some sleep,” Yami murmured melting to the sensation that the ice pack was giving his pounding head, “I'll need to change the bandages on my torso before I actually go to what ever room I am staying in and retire for the night”.
Crocking a brow Seto finally noticed the tensor bandages that could be seen through the semi loose white tee-shirt, “no broken ribs right,” he inquired rising to his feet and gently running his hands over Yami's torso.
Wincing Yami shook his head, “not that I know of, maybe I should get some x-rays tomorrow to confirm that”.
“You can get them here,” said Seto, “there is a small infirmary downstairs with high classed doctors, they'll be able to treat you”.
Yami smiled at him, “thank you,” he yawned, “wake me when suppers ready please”.
“I will, have a good nap,” murmured Seto before sitting down at the desk, “I'll be right here if you need me”.
“I know, night”.
“Sleep tight”.
A/N: Hey hey, I'm back, sorry to keep you all waiting; those that are on Pharaoh's Palace 2 know why this was delayed. And I am sorry that this is such a boring chapter to read, but I kinda don't want to rush the story like I do all of my other ones, except LIVING DEAD seems to be taking longer than I had originally thought. Anyway, getting off track here, the next chapter will be more exciting, and here are some answers to questions about the first chapter, comments as well.
Kawaii Chibi Yami: I will admit, Yami is a little bit out of character, but I like him better like this sometimes. I didn't make him use his powers because I want it in this story for him not to be dependant upon them, I have never really had him like that. I prefer it when Yami tries to fend for himself without his powers, but he does use them every once in a while, as you will have to wait and see for. LOL, thanks for reviewing though.
Will's Girl: Glade that you like it, I this story so much, I think I like it more than LIVING DEAD. Meh, thanks for reviewing.
Kameeko: glade you like it, and thank you for reviewing.
Dragon nDesidera: I'm really happy that you liked the beginning, I thought that the ending was a little rushed but, at least you like it, lol, and damn straight Seto is protective of Yami, lol, I like it that way.
(Hugs you all) Thank you for reviewing, I hope that you like this chapter. Oh, and the book in the last chapter, I highly recommend it, damn that is one amazing book, along with Wilbur Smith's River God, Warlock, and The Seventh Scroll.
