He remembered seeing the blood that coated his hands, he remembered his vision going black, and then there was nothing. Moaning he peeked his eyes open only to shut them tightly with a heavy groan, the light was blinding, he was obviously no longer in the room he had originally been placed in. Forcing them open again he allowed his eyes to adjust before he opened them all the way, but he could not focus on anything. For a few moments he stared wide eyed into the blinding white that surrounded him, patiently waiting for his vision to sharpen and explain to him why the room was so luminous.
Slowly he began to be able to make out shapes, then solid lines without the overwhelming fog, and then everything sharpened and he glanced around in panic. He was in a hospital room, the sounds were now reaching his ears, the constant beeping of a heart monitor, and the mindless chatter of a doctor. Focusing he realized that the doctor that was speaking was just outside of the door to his room, but he could not see her, he could only make out the knob or the wooden door.
“The ribs are now set and ready to heal, and we stitched up his lung, he was lucky it was only a small puncture or he may have died before you reached the hospital. He needs to rest, I want to keep him here overnight before I allow him to go home and recover there. When he does go home though I don't want him moving around for at least two to three days, he can move to go to the bathroom, but otherwise someone will have to carry him, or wheel him about in a wheelchair,” she expounded.
Nick's voice broke through the door to his ear, “how long until you'll allow him to move about freely and run his everyday life,” he asked.
“About a week, he should be fine after that with the pain medications that I am giving him. Otherwise you may go sit with him now, he should be waking up soon, the anaesthetics have warn off,” she said before her footsteps reached his ears then faded off as she strode away.
The metal knob was turned and the door was slowly pushed open, it reminded him greatly of when Yugi would sneak into their shared bedroom after watching his favourite show at one in the morning once Grandpa was asleep. Sure enough his hikari was the first to enter the room, wide violet eyes glanced at him and brightened immediately, “you're awake,” he said quietly as Seto and Nick followed him into the room.
He tried to speak but found that he could not, something was in his throat, glancing down he groaned and closed his eyes, they had shoved a tubee down his throat. Now that he was coherent the pain from the surgery that he had obviously just had struck him full force. Moaning he clenched his hands in the crisp white sheets around him, why was the damn morphine not working yet?
Yugi heard the thought and sighed, “You just got out of surgery Yami, the morphine won't kick in for about five more minutes or so”.
Forcing his eyes open Yami stared into Yugi's eyes as the smaller teenager sat on the edge of his bed and reaching out grabbed his hand that was not filled with IV's. Yugi smiled at him and ran his digits over his brow, “you scared us for a minute there you know”.
/What happened?/
Sighing Yugi glanced back at Seto and Nick before he turned his eyes back upon his darker half, “after you passed out you stopped breathing, so we drove you to the hospital”.
/Oh/ Blinking he averted his gaze to Seto and Nick, heaving a sharp breath he felt the pain in his torso and decided against doing that ever again /Thank them for me please/.
Smiling Yugi nodded before turning to the two, “he say's thank you”.
Seto smiled as well and moved forward to the side of Yami's bed and ran his hand up and down his arm, “anytime Yami, now take it easy, the only thing that is holding you together at the moment are stitches”.
/I guess I shouldn't move then huh/
(No Yami, you move and you'll be right back in surgery, only they would have to repair more than just your lungs)
/I have confirmed it now, I hate surgery, and I hate being sick/
(Don't we all) Yugi smiled at Yami, the spirits pale eyes closed then opened again overwhelming tears of pain now evident within them. Furrowing his brow Yugi leaned over on the bed gently caressed Yami's face, “shh, the morphine will kick in soon”.
/It hurts though/ he then shivered and closed his eyes, a single rebel tear trailing down his cheek /Aibou, I'm cold/
Heaving a deep breath Yugi laid down upon the bed and snuggled into Yami as best as he could, the spirit continued to shiver. Nick shook his head then move to one of the nightstands, pulling open a drawer he rummaged through it, once he was finished he stood up with his findings in his arms, two thick blankets.
Yami's eyes glowed with gratefulness as Nick covered him with the two blankets; Nick smiled at him and placed a comforting kiss on his brow, like a brother would. Slowly the heat of the blankets and Yugi's body began to rock him to sleep, shifting his eyes he found that Seto was staring at him with those gorgeous blue eyes. He confirmed it in that moment before he fell asleep, Seto was the person from his dreams and from his past, no one else could have those perfect blue eyes.

With a deep moan Yami forced his eyes open, thankful this time to find that the lights in his room were off. A nurse was in the room, checking his vitals and heart rate, at the moment she was reading the dial on the blood pressure instrument. Realizing that Yugi was no longer with him along with the others he felt a surge of panic go through him, where were they, he needed them here.
The nurse felt his jolt with panic and glanced at him, realizing that he was awake she smiled at him, “your brother was the only one allowed to stay. He went to the cafeteria to get some tea for the two of you. I am just checking to make sure that everything is alright”.
Blinking groggily he gave a small nod before watching her turn to her clipboard and record her findings, “well here's some good news, your breathing is much better, you may be able to have that tubee removed tomorrow,” she said and continued to scribble on the paper. She gave him a final smile before leaving the room, closing the door behind her and switching on a small lamp to give him a bit of comfort.
At the moment he did not want to be alone and vulnerable, and her absence began to dwell on him and he shivered shifting onto his side with a heavy wince and curling into as much of a ball as he could muster with the bandages on his torso and the pain that ripped through him.
Hearing the click of the knob turning and the door being pushed open Yami glanced at the door, Yugi was carefully carrying two mugs of tea into the room while trying to manage the door. Out of instinct he tried to sit up to help his hikari only to be reminded of his torso by the unwanted sensation of white hot pain ripping through him.
Yugi lifted his eyes at hearing Yami's pained moan, seeing that the spirit had tried to sit up he arched a brow and scowled slightly, “I thought we agreed on not moving for a while”.
/Instinct Hikari, I'm used to being able to move and help you, not vice versa/
Smiling warmly Yugi placed the two cups of tea on the nightstand, “Dr. Kenbridge will be coming in a few minutes to remove the tube, he said that I was no longer necessary, your breathing has become normal enough”.
/Per say, it hurts a great deal you know just to take a simple breath. It's rather annoying/ Yami moaned out through their link as he rested his head upon the plush pillow /I just want to go back home, its so sterile here, its unnerving. Besides, I can't help but feel vulnerable here, this is one of the most open places that they could grab me. And in my condition, I would not be able to fight them back. I don't like it Aibou, I just want to go home/
“You will be tomorrow,” he assured running his fingers through silky ebony, crimson, and golden hair, “just have patience. And don't worry, I'm right here with you, and the puzzle and rod are safe in the nightstand. Now rest, Dr. Kenbridge will be here any moment now to remove that tubee and then I can give you something real to nourish you other than IV's”. Yami's eyes glowed with gratefulness, and it warmed Yugi's heart to see that, heaving a sigh he gently caressed Yami's face while they waited, his darker half purring at the sensation.
/Yugi, I have something to tell you, something that I only realized recently/
“What's that,” he asked.
/I've been having dreams since I received my own body, dreams of someone I obviously loved and was loved by in ancient Egypt. It never hit me until now, I have known his reincarnation the entire time I have been here. And by the seems of things, by the way that the reincarnation has been acting towards me lately, he is beginning to regain the same feelings as his former self/
“Who is it, who's the reincarnation,” Yugi asked.
/Seto, its Seto. I only realized it before I started coughing when I was in his lap. His eyes are the same blue shade, and it hold the same burning love within them, and his touch feels exactly like the touch from the man in my dream. It's him, I know it is, my heart is telling my that/
“Have you ever looked at Seto like that,” said Yugi staring into crimson eyes.
/I have, to some extent, but we have been through all of those battles that I barely had time to actually think about how I feel about him. It's been in the last few months that I have actually started to notice anything. And recent events have increased those feelings towards him. He has saved me a few times already, and protected me. I think that I am beginning to fall for him, but honestly, I'm not sure/
Just then the door opened and Dr. Kenbridge, a beautiful blonde haired woman strode into the room, a male nurse behind her. She glanced down at the clipboard briefly and then smiled in remembrance, “how are you feeling Yami, use your hand please if you can understand me,” she asked placing the clipboard on the nightstand.
Lifting a shaky and pale hand Yami shifted it from side to side, -okay-.
She nodded and then flicked on the room light, Yami grimaced at it for a moment but his eyes adjusted swiftly. Dr. Kenbridge leaned over him and began to speak in her sweet voice, “my assistant will be helping me remove that tube. I'll need you to sit up for this, and I will tell you what we are doing as we go, alright, thumbs up”. Seeing the signal she nodded and signalled for her assistant to go to the other side of the bed, “I'll need you to stand back for this Yugi, please and thank you”.
Gently the assistant Craig and Dr. Kenbridge slowly eased him into a sitting position, he moaned and closed his eyes, they were understanding with him and stopped for a moment before Craig held him, holding his hand for comfort.
“Now, I need you to inhale through your nose and exhale through your mouth, I will be pulling the tube out at the same time. It will hurt, and I'm apologizing for that right now, but I need to remove it. Now on the count of three, one….two…three”.
Yami exhaled at that moment and the tube was pulled from his throat, causing him to cough from both the pain and the tickling sensation from it being rapidly tugged out. Gentle widespread hands rubbed his back in slow circles as Dr. Kenbridge placed the tube in a bag, pulled out her stethoscope from her pocket, and began to run its cool tip over the exposed regions of Yami's shoulders and then over the bandaged sections of his lower back and torso, checking the heart beat and the clarity of the lungs.
Moving back and draping the stethoscope over her shoulders, “your lungs have cleared up, that's good. All you need to do is rest now, I'll come check up on you in the morning, if you're alright then you can go home. Sound good,” she asked before handing him one of the mugs of tea.
Taking the mug in unsteady hands he gingerly sipped at the hot liquid, feeling it run down his throat and remove the dryness, but the pain only increased from it. Gulping he glanced at her, “it sounds wonderful,” he croaked, “no offence, but hospitals make me uneasy”.
She smiled and rubbed his shoulder, “none taken, now rest and I will check on you tomorrow,” she said before leaving the room. Craig laid him down upon the bed and waved a small good bye before following her out and shutting off the light. Yami heaved a sigh and began to devour his tea, desperately trying to soothe his throat.
“Go to sleep Yami,” Yugi instructed taking the now finished mug away, “We can talk about your dream in the morning”.

He woke to the feeling of unfamiliar hands upon him, he had remembered Yugi telling him through their link that he went to grab something for them to eat, so who was it that was handling him. Forcing his eyes open he screamed as he felt the IV's in his arm being brutally ripped out, a stream of thick red blood following it. Frantic hands wrapped it with gauze, staunching the flow.
Glancing back that the man that was holding him from behind he gasped, no this could not be happening.
Kosey was holding him from behind tightly, while three other's busied themselves with quickly gathering the blankets from his hospital bed and the pillows. Beside him rummaging through the nightstand was Toran, he cried out happily when he found the puzzle and rod, with a smile he shoved them into a pillow and then turned his attention to him.
“It's good to see that you're awake Pharaoh, but I'm afraid it will only ruin our plan of capturing you. This time Yami, no one is here to protect you, you are all alone,” he mocked.
Fearful crimson eyes glanced frantically around the room, praying that his enemies were lying, but they were not, no one was here save his men. He was about to call out for help but a cloth was placed over him mouth, he recognized the overwhelming and strong scent of chloroform on the cloth and he tried to struggle even though his body screamed from pain.
He was loosing, his eyes rolling into the back of his head and his mind going black, he sent out one final warning to Yugi, it was the best he could do.
/Aibou, I'm sorry, I broke our promise, they have me/
