A/n: yes I am in a kind of updating type of mood sort of speak. I have a slight idea of where this is going but nothing more. I can tell you though that the end is near.

Chapter 11freedom from the pain

Joey stopped yami just before they had reached the hospital room that held Kayla. "Are you sure your ready for this yug- I mean yami?" he asked correcting him self before he mistook Yami for his best friend yugi again, not sure if the puzzle spiret was was ready to deal with what he might see.

"I have to Joey, I just have to..." Yami said not truely sure himself if he was ready for this.

Joey nodded, "I will be right with you buddy you can always count on me." He stated giving his friend a squeeze on the shoulder before slowly opening the door.

The room was dark save for the light that filitered in the window and the glow of the digital numbers on the machines. Joey covered his mouth at the sight before him, while yami on the other hand stood frozen in place. He rushed over to the bedside where the love of his life lie half sitting up her eyes open in small slits. She wore a simple white hospital gown, the chest open enough for whires to be placed on her chest. thease connected to the many machines all around the room. A tube ran from a bag hanging on a moving pole, and dripped life giving blood down into the other end which was inserted into a vain located in the back of her hand. Her wounds were cleaned and wrapped and she just lay there on her back staring off into space.

"Kayla can you hear me?" Yami asked as he took her bandaged hand in his own stroking the back of it with his thumb.

When Kayla heard this, she turned to him her half open eyes blinking at him. "yes I can, is it you yami?" Kayla asked her own voice week and tired.

"yes it is my ove, please don't speak...everything is going to be alright now." he reassured his love with a smile, even though she couldn't see it, she wouldn't also know that the smile was forced. Joey however could see the pain in his friend, but chose to keep it from kayla, knowing Yami would have to be the one to tell her, but Joey did hope Yami wouldn't make a huge mistake and risk losing her.

Joey watched as Kayla turned to her lover's touch and watched as tears formed in yami's eyes, one escaping him, and landing on kayla. "Why are you crying?" the young girl asked.

"I am just so happy your alive, I was afraid I lost you." yami replied, part of that being true, but part of it not really. Yes he was glad his love was alive, but the thought of not being able to touch her or hold her without using another person to do it bothered him still, and he knew that one day he would have to tell her.

"The drs say I will be fine, and I came out preaty lucky..." She continued each word a strain to get out.

"Don't speak, just injoy the moment. Get your voice back." Yami urged her as his tears continued to poor out like tiny rivers.

"Don't cry please, you won't lose me I asure you." Kayla promised as she stroked his tears away with her free hand.

Yami looked at her with his tear stained face. "I am afraid, I already have...because.." he started but was unable to finish.

Joey looked at his friend with a deep concern knowing what he was thinking and feeling. He then glanced up at Kayla and saw the confusion clearly written on her face.

"no, you don't understand, I am right here...and I always will be. I know what must have happened to you, for you to be here with me now." Kayla started and yami gaped, wondering how she knew. Then again, could this be that ovious? Did she know it all...? were just a few questions that sprang up.

Kayla smiled slightly and took both of her hands and added them to the hands holding her own. Just then, a golden light came from the puzzle, covering them both up in its warm light. Yami stayed frozen as Joey closed his eyes to the brightness as it elumiated the small hospital room. Yami then felt changes to himself, as if he were really human, instead of a supernatural being like he was almost becoming whole, not like simi-normal like he had feltbefore, this was more complete. To make things worse, and more instering kind of sort of, his counter-part, yugi, who was almost like a mirior image of him, except smaller and a lighter tone to his eyes, was now sitting on the empty hospital chair provided for guests to sit by their love one's sides.

When the light died down, Kayla fainted and a strange voice filled the room before anyone could speak. A silver light appeared this time, as a soft female voice spoke. "You did it, the power of your love for this girl has freed you from the puzzle, now, you don't have to go through anyone to show your love." she explained to a stuned Yami before dissappearing the room becoming dark and slighent once more.

Yami closed his eyes as Yugi blinked beside him in confusion watching Yami stroke the hair of the sleeping form in the bed. "Who is she?" Yugi asked after a few minutes, unable to keep quiet any longer.

"Her name is kayla, someone I loved a long time ago, who has come back to me at last. " yami whispered as he kissed her forehead.

Yugi took a moment to take in what Yami had been saying before nodding. "So, she could or rather was your past lover reborn?" he asked trying to clear up his jumbled mind.

"Yes, and no, in a since your right yug, but at the same time not. I have reason to believe from some unknown form of magic, she was able to travel through time, and give me what I needed just in time..and then return here, knowing I needed her or she needed me once again, though I am not to sure on that. You had best go get Jenna, her best friend." Yami started to explain but before his emotions got out of control once more, he changed the subject.

Yugi just blinked as he was led out of the room and Jenna and seto were seen running twards him.. Jenna had been gasping for breath frantic when she heard that only two people could come in at a time.. "how.. how.. bad is it Joey" she asked her eyes showing a deep feer.

"its not as bad as you think, she made it out of it with major blood loss from what I can see at the moment,however, the drs reassure us she will be fine. Yami is in there with her now, but as her best friend, she would love to see you." Joey stated with a smile, trying to keep the subject about yugi and yami quiet at least for now, his mind trying to comperhind all that was going on.

"here take this and dry your tears." seto offered taking a tissue and offering it to the shaking girl in his arms. He had to hold her due to the tremoundous amount of shaking she had done out of fear for her best friend, yet all of this seemed so famiular to him. His mind kept flashing back, but he forced himself to concentrate to keep jenna under control, because now he had no doubt in his mind she was in fact his long lost love.

Jenna nodded thankfully taking the offered tissue in her hand and dabbing her eyes with it. She smiled faintly as she slipped into the room. She walked over to her friend, who was still sleeping before she gasped covering her mouth in order to cover it. "is she?" she forced herself to ask.

"She is just asleep." Yami stated as he lookedup at jenna before adding, "you must be Jenna."

"Yes I am....but how did..." She started to ask unable to think clearly.

Yami smiled, "its no secerate really. I had heard about you, when I saw your name on Kayla's list of phone numbers. I was the one that placed the call. I figured you would be down as fast as you could due to how close you two appear to be." he explained the reason being true for he was the one to make the call. "I just didn't know if you were family or something."

"Well Kayla and I are quite close, she is like a sister to me." Jenna admitted.

"Thats great.." yami stated smiling. Just as he had said that, he turned to look over at the bed. Kayla had started to awaken once more.

"Jenna ..I thought I heard your voice." she said in a hushed whispered.

"Kayla your alive!" Jenna shouted wanting so bad to run over and hug her friend, but at the same time, didn't want to upset her injories.

"Its ok if you want to hug me.." Kayla reasured wanting to feel the hug that her friend gave her.

Jenna nodded knowing how her friend felt. A smile came to her lips as he gave the bron haired girl in the bed a hug, before her own depressing thoughts bean to over take her mind.

Seto slipped into the room when dhe drs and nurses weren't even looking. He saw jenna hug Kayla and smiled, then when the girl had moved, he saw the pain in her friend's eyes. He walked over to her and hugged her from behind with a bright smile. "if your worried about a place to stay, or your current living arangments, I will be more then happy to help." he offered suddenly.

Jenna gapped at the man in front of her and gave him a small smile, her shock in her eyes, but the good news was Kayla was going to make it, and it looked like both of them at last could be happy.
