Yami woke to an empty feeling plaguing his heart. But what was it? What was he missing? He slowly touched his chest closing his eyes and breathing slowly trying to calm down the raging beat of his heart.

He pulled the covers from his body and covered himself with a robe from his chair. He had to talk to Seto maybe he knew what do. The feeling was just too intense to ignore. He had to know what it was his heart sought for.

He opened the door to his room, stepping out, and closing it quickly. In his haste he accidentally bumped into a slave. He looked down to see Zaire upon the floor. He stared at her but quickly looked up upon hearing Seto's voice.

He walked over to him, "Seto, I am greatly troubled. Can you guide me with your wisdom?"

Seto looked back at Zaire and frowned, "I know of your predicament, Yami, but it wouldn't have killed you nor her if you had at least said a simple `sorry' to her."

Yami looked at him curiously and turned to the girl whom he had knocked down, "Why should I have to apologize to a slave?" he questioned.

Seto frowned more, "Yami, there is no need to act like that around me. I know you love her. I know of your feelings and your situation."

Yami shook his head, "I know not of which you speak nor of this love you accuse me of having for a girl I barely know. Now as I was saying before, I feel an emptiness in my heart and -"

"You say you have never met her nor felt a love for her?" Seto asked with widened eyes at Yami's statement.

Yami sighed in aggravation, "What is this sudden fancy you have for this girl? I am feeling nothing. Cold. Alone. Isolated. And all you can do is ask me why I do not claim the love of a slave that I don't know?"

Seto shook his head, "Yami, you do know her. Zaire. Yami, seriously, stop. Quetesh had played many tricks with your head, but you can't seriously say you have forgotten the girl of your dreams."

Yami closed his eyes, "Seto, I thought I could come to you, but it is obvious that you are elsewhere at the moment. I guess I must seek the guidance of another." With that said Yami turned from Seto and went on his way.

Seto stood in complete shock as he watched the retreating form of his best friend. He growled with anger, "Quetesh, what have you done?"

Zaire ran into Satire's chamber the minute she got a chance too, "Satire, Yami is acting in the strangest of ways."

Satire looked at Zaire as though she were crazy, "Do we have no recall of how mean he has been to you for about a month now?"

Zaire shook her head, "But there is always a look in his eyes. Almost like he doesn't want to hurt me but he must."

"Yeah, I'm sure." Satire rolled her eyes as she lay upon her bed, "What, did he not have that look this time?"

"Actually, no, he didn't. He looked confused and lost. He looked upon me as a stranger. Like he had never seen me before and I didn't matter to him. I was just another obstacle in his way. A slave for him." she said with sadden eyes as she recalled the moment.

Satire looked at her from the corner of her eyes, "That's what he's been calling you."

Zaire sat back against the head board, "But I know he didn't mean it, I could see it. But this new expression upon his face, what do you think it was?"

"Gas." Satire stated bluntly.

"Satire." Zaire laughed as she brought a pillow down upon the girl's face.

"What?" she asked innocently as she hit Zaire with a pillow thus beginning a pillow fight.

The clearing of a throat brought the girls' attention to the door where stood Pegasus. Zaire quickly scurried off the bed fixing her self the best she could.

"I hate to be a party pooper, but if you don't mind I would like to steal Zaire away from you for the moment." He directed the comment toward Satire who smiled politely and nodded.

Zaire waved to Satire as she followed her master out into the hall.

"Am I in trouble?" Zaire asked as she followed Pegasus through the halls.

Pegasus shook his head, "Are you ever in trouble?" he asked her smiling.

Zaire laughed, "Master Pegasus, I know this to be random, but in truth I must say I do miss him. When will Duke be returning from his trip?" She asked looking into Pegasus eyes.

Pegasus frowned at the question but answered it with as little anger as possible, "I'm not sure. He sent me a letter saying he enjoyed the Nigerian weather and might be staying there longer than originally."

Zaire nodded dropping the subject as she heard the uneasiness in her master's voice.

Once they came to the room, Pegasus opened the door putting out his hand as he allowed her entrance.

She smiled and nodded her head slightly in thanks as she entered the room.

"Please, sit." Pegasus ordered in a kind voice taking a seat in a nearby chair.

Zaire sat and looked down into her lap examining the ring upon her finger. She had discovered it when she had awakened and was unable to take it off. Not that she wanted too. It was a very beautiful and most likely expensive diamond ring. It was in the form of a rose and the band was gold with diamonds swirling around it. She loved it and was thankful for it, but she wished she had been able to know who gave it to her. She predicted it to be someone who knew her since it was in the form of a rose. From that she inquired that the person knew she liked flowers. She had expected Yami, but the way he had been treating her and after this morning she doubted it. She thought maybe Devin, but where would a slave get that kind of money. All in all it had already become a habit for her to stare at the ring and just admire its beauty.

Pegasus placed his hand upon the slave's lap as to draw her out of her thoughts.

Zaire looked up at him and smiled giving him her full attention.

Pegasus sighed, "You know I enjoy having you as a slave." Pegasus shook his head, "Excuse me, a friend."

Zaire smiled at the name, "I am honored to be called your friend, Master Pegasus."

Pegasus nodded, "Yes. Well, I just want you to know we will always be friends, but…well…to get to the point, I am giving you to Yami."

Zaire stared at Pegasus, slightly confused by his words. She shook her head, "I'm sorry, what?" she asked.

Pegasus closed his eyes `playing' the look of hurt and regret, "I'm sorry, but I have my orders. I'm sure you will enjoy having Yami as a master, right?" Pegasus asked wagging his eyebrows at his meaning.

Zaire shook her head, "Forgive me, Master Pegasus, but have you not noticed our sudden turning of ways, Yami and I?"

"I'm sure it will get better. This is a start, right?" Pegasus said as encouragement.

"I don't want to be Yami's slave." Zaire said as tears pricked at her eyes.

Seto came to the door tapping on it gently.

Pegasus looked up and nodded his head slightly, "You have no choice, I'm afraid." He said as he got up and left the room.

Seto walked over to Zaire getting on his knees to look into her eyes.

Zaire looked at him tears streaming down her face, "Is this your doing?" she asked her voice cracking with pain.

Seto shook his head, "No. I just got word that Pegasus was giving you to, Yami. He says it is the order of the gods." `More like goddess. Most likely Quetesh.' He said to himself.

Zaire sighed as she got up, "O.K. I guess…I have no choice." She said as she pushed all feelings away and followed Seto to Yami's room.

~~

Yami entered his room completely exhausted from emotional stress. He had yet to find anyone who could help him with his problem. Just giving up all hope, he retreated back to his bedroom to try and rest, maybe then the feeling would go away.

Yami fell upon his bed face first with his legs leaning off the side of the bed. He sighed loudly and turned over onto his back.

He quickly shot up once his eyes came in contact with those of golden ray, "Who are you?" he asked the girl upon his bed.

Zaire huffed as she crossed her arms, "Very funny, Yami. Excuse me, I mean, Pharaoh Yami." She said his name with mockery.

"Why are you here?" he asked looking at her curiously.

Zaire rolled her eyes, "Guess I'll just humor you then. I'm Zaire and unfortunately I have to be your slave. What is it you would have me to do, Master Yami?"

Yami looked at the girl studying every inch of her body, "Zaire, huh? Cute. So you're my slave?"

"That's what I've been told."

Yami looked at her until his eyes widened with a sudden realization, "You must be that pleasure slave I've been told about." He said advancing toward her.

Zaire's eyes widened, "I'm no ones pleasure slave, Yami. I'll be yours if you agree to apologize for your cruel and hurtful words." She said to him backing up against the wall.

Yami stopped, "Apologize? Cruel and hurtful words? What are you talking about? I couldn't have hurt you, well except this mourning. Is that what you're talking about? It has to be. That's the first time I've ever seen you. Listen, I'm sorry for knocking you down, O.K.?" he started toward her once again.

"What? No, those things you said to me. Calling me a slave and all. Yami what's wrong with you?" Zaire asked as she tried to push Yami off her who was currently sucking her neck.

"Well…you are…a slave." Yami reminded her in-between nips at her neck, "Besides I never said those things, to your face. This is the first time I've talked to you."

Zaire pushed Yami off, "Yami, you have. What is wrong with you? I was your love. First you treat me as though you don't want me and now you treat me like you've never met me."

"What is it with you and Seto saying I use to love you. Listen carefully, this moment right here is the first…I repeat…first… time I have spent any amount of time talking to you. This mourning is the first…once again…first… time I met you. O.K?" With that he pounced the girl and proceeded to rid her of her garments where after doing the same to him self.

As Yami thrust in and out of Zaire, she cried not understanding why he didn't remember her. She knew he wasn't playing. He really didn't know what she was talking about. She could see that. The look that he used to give her was no longer there. It was like all memory of her was erased from his mind.

"AH!" Zaire screamed out before she moaned as Yami found her sweet spot and continued to hit it repeatedly.

Yami had his face buried in Zaire's neck as he moved up and down, in and out, breathing heavily as he held her by her back.

Once they reached both their climax, Yami laid upon her for a while trying to catch his breath, "Damn, Zaire was it? That was good. I'm going to enjoy taking you every night." He wiped the tears from her eyes, "Don't cry," he said soothingly, "You need to save those tears for when it really starts to hurt." He smiled as he got out of the bed and headed for the bathing room.

Zaire laid upon the bed as silent tears rolled from her eyes. The way he had done it was not the way her Yami had treated her. It wasn't rough and uncaring, but she could tell it wasn't Yami. She could tell that something was wrong.

She turned over on the bed putting her self into a fatal position and began to weep once more, "Oh, Yami. Please come back to me." She whispered as sleep began to claim her although the sun was still high.

~Oh, Zaire. Poor Zaire. I'm afraid Yami won't be coming back. All memory of you is gone from his mind. A slight punishment for disobeying me. I couldn't kill you. I have my reasons. You will find them out soon. Until then, what will you do? Poor Zaire. So sad. So lost. Suffer, suffer, suffer~ the voice of Quetesh ran across her mind caressing it with depressing thoughts before the spirit vanished.

The necklace around Zaire's neck began to glow, brighter and brighter, until it stopped. Leaving a dull, worn, and rusting jewel in its wake.
