Yami woke to someone shaking him. His head was pounding with great force. He looked up and smiled slightly when his eyes met that of golden ray.
"Zai." He whispered.
Zaire was taken back by the name. Yami had only called her slave, but now not only did he not call her slave, he called her by a nickname she didn't know he knew.
She shook her head to clear herself of all thoughts, "Are you alright, Pharaoh?" she asked a bit concerned but just a twinge.
Yami looked at her questionably, "Why do you give me a title, Love?" he asked her.
Zaire's mouth opened in shock. Love? Did he just call her love? Zaire bit her bottom lip, "Pharaoh Yami, I-"
Yami cut her off as he kissed her passionately, "I had a horrible dream that I'd forgotten about you and you feel in love with another." He told her when they parted.
Zaire looked at him as though he were mad, "But Pharaoh…I…"
"Zaire." said a voice from behind.
Zaire turned and smiled at Devin.
"That's him, that's the guy you feel in love with." Yami said as he studied the boy in front of him.
Zaire nodded her head as she stood and walked over to him, "Yes. I know. That is because it is true." She told him as Devin wrapped his arms around her waist.
Yami shook his head as he went up to her, "But you are mine. We are in love."
Zaire shook her head.
The ground beneath their feet began to shake uncontrollably. They each looked down as the floor began to crack from beneath them, then stop suddenly.
"What was that?" Zaire asked.
"PHARAOH YAMI!" cried a guard that ran quickly to the king.
Yami looked at him worriedly, "What? What is it?"
The guard tried desperately to catch his breath as he spoke, "The monsters…milord…they have…they have…THEY HAVE ESCAPED THE REALM, MILORD." He said breathlessly.
"What?" Yami growled.
The guard pointed toward the wall, "They are in the city…many are being killed, Pharaoh."
Yami's eyes widened with terror. He looked to Zaire who looked at him expectantly. He turned back to the guard, "Round up all the guards. Fight them. I'll do what I must."
The guard bowed and ran off to round up troops.
"Zaire," Devin said to her, "We must go. Come on. We'll only get in the way."
Zaire nodded as she ran off with Devin taking a look back at Yami.
Yami sighed, closing his eyes. He turned and ran toward his room. He opened his doors and immediately took hold of his deck.
"Dark Magician." He summoned.
The magician appeared before him, "Master, I know of what's happening."
"Good, then I don't have to explain. You know what to do." Yami said to him as he took his sword and proceeded to the throne room.
The magician watched his master go and immediately called forth the other monsters of the deck to aid him in the battle.
~~
Yami ran through the halls slicing at anything in his path. The monsters were in a range. Yami new someone was behind this, but whom?
Yami opened the door to his throne room and stopped cold. Upon his throne was Pegasus guarded by the two thieves. Pegasus held his puzzle within his hands swinging it back and forth.
Yami growled as he watched Pegasus play with his millennium item. `Damn,' Yami thought to himself, `If I'd known he would betray me.'
"Tisk, tisk, Yami, didn't you know that leaving this lying around was unsafe?" Pegasus asked him as he placed it around his neck.
"Damn you, Pegasus." Yami growled.
"Watch it, Yami. You're in my power." He said before sending a power wave toward Yami sending him flying back into a corner.
Yami growled again moving his hand to push himself up. His eyes widened as he felt something wet. He looked behind him and went pale when two pairs of lifeless eyes met him.
He backed up slowly and looked to Bakura and Malik who were smirking devilishly. He looked back to the two girls feeling his stomach lurch. He staggered back and looked to them again.
"You did that to your lovers?" He yelled to them.
Their eyes began to glow a dark purple as they pulled out knives and started to walk toward Yami.
"Down, boys." Said a feminine voice from behind.
Yami turned and his eyes widened with fear, "Nephtys." He whispered.
The dark goddess laughed, "Yes, but you may remember me more as Quetesh."
Yami looked to her curiously, "What?"
The goddess sighed, "Don't you remember?" she said as she changed herself, her dark purple hair changing to a bright red and her tanned skin turning to a soft pale.
Yami's eyes widened as he recognized the goddess as Quetesh.
She smiled as she changed back to her original form, "Now you remember?"
Yami felt range building up in the pit of his stomach, "You…You put me through all THIS?" he yelled as he launched for her, but was pulled back by Bakura who flung him into the wall.
Malik jumped in front of him and drew the knife across his arm.
Yami cried out in pain as he pushed Malik from him drawing his sword.
Both thieves stood next to each smiling wickedly. They both jumped for him put their attack was block by Yami's sword.
Yami pushed them back and charged for them as they landed on the ground. He brought his sword down but they moved out the way quickly.
They both ran for opposite sides of him and stopped looking at him with glowing eyes.
Yami breathed heavily, watching them both, "What's wrong, Nephtys, can't fight your own battle?" Yami said as he prepared himself again seeing both thieves running toward him.
Nephtys laughed, "Actually, I much rather prefer to watch your demise than cause it." She said.
Yami frowned as the thieves ran closer to him with a battle cry. He moved away just as they were about to embed the daggers into his side causing them to stab each other.
Yami smirked triumphantly as the two fell to the ground.
Nephtys frowned.
Pegasus clapped, "Good job, Yami-boy. Now for your next test."
"What?" Yami said but immediately cried out as a sting erupted from his shoulder. He grabbed the wound as blood poured from it. He turned to see Devin smirking at him with a long sword that curved at the end.
Yami snarled, "You, I knew you were no good."
The boy smirked more his eyes were cold and lifeless. Yami shivered at the emptiness he felt in the boy. He jumped back as the boy swung at him. He moved expertly avoiding every blow.
Yami brought his sword up in defense as a blow came from above. The boy swooped down and kicked Yami's feet knocking him off balance. He then brought the sword down onto Yami's rib.
Yami cried out his eyes opening more in agony. He grabbed the sword and pulled it out of his side, yelling more at the coursing pain. Yami grabbed his side as he turned over and tried to help himself up.
"Ahhhh." He yelled as the boy stepped on his wounded shoulder keeping him down. "Ahhhhhhhh." The boy began to rub his foot into the wound there after kicking Yami in his injured rib.
Nephtys put her hand up, "That's enough Devin. Help him up."
Devin looked to his master and nodded. He took Yami's arm and helped him up. He took the sword and placed it Yami's hand. He smirked as he took his sword and rammed it through his own heart.
Yami's eyes widened at the action. The boy drew the sword out his heart and threw it to the other side and feel to the floor.
Yami was confused by the action. Why had the boy just let him win? Why did he kill himself? Was this the work of the dark goddess?
"Devin!" Yami heard a cry from the doorway. He turned and saw Zaire staring angrily at him and tears.
Yami growled. So that was their plan.
Zaire ran to the fallen boy taking him into her arms, "Why, Yami, why?"
Yami shook his head, bending down to the girl, "But it wasn't me, he killed himself, Love…I did-"
"DON'T YOU EVER CALL ME LOVE!" Zaire yelled to him cutting him off. She looked back down to her fallen lover, "I am not your love, and I will never be your love again. I hate you, Yami. If you hadn't realized it before then realize it now. I…HATE…YOU!" She yelled the last part to him louder than before. She put her head to Devin's hair and began to cry.
Yami stood up feeling his heart break into a thousand pieces. He stood and stepped back slowly. He felt his body go numb at her words.
Pegasus and Nephtys smiled at Yami, as he stood in the middle of the room unmoving.
Pegasus looked up at Nephtys, "May I have some fun with him please?" he questioned.
She nodded, "Of course, and I will get the remainder of the power we need." She said as she began to walk over to Zaire.
Pegasus sat back getting comfortable. He pointed his finger at Yami as the puzzle began to glow.
Yami felt the power of the puzzle wrap around him.
Pegasus moved his finger up which caused Yami to float off the ground, "Hmm, now where should you go first?" he asked looking around the room, "How about over here," he said pointing to a wall causing Yami to fly toward it and slam into it, "Naw, I think over here," he said pointing to another wall which Yami slammed into again, "No? Well how about here or here or maybe here." He continued to move his finger from place to place, Yami crashing into the walls, floors, and ceiling.
Zaire looked at Yami with tears and fear in her eyes. She should help him, but he murdered her lover. She couldn't. She turned her eyes from him looking back down upon the body in her arms.
"I'm so sorry, my dear." Said a dark voice from above her.
Zaire looked up and felt the fear take control of her entire body.
The dark goddess smiled an evil smile at her, "Why, my dear, do you look so frighten." She grabbed Zaire by her neck bringing her closer to her, "Is it because I could kill you in a snap."
Zaire trembled with terror, "Please leave me alone." She cried.
"First, you have something I need." The goddess said before the hand on Zaire's neck began to glow.
Zaire felt something with her began to be sucked from her body. What was this? She felt her whole body going limp as the goddess pulled away dropping her to the ground.
Nephtys laughed maliciously, "So much power, you possessed." She said as she stared at the glowing ball of energy that she'd pulled from the girl's body. She brought the energy closer to her body feeling as it drew into her becoming one with her.
She looked over to Pegasus and frowned, "There is really no use for him any longer. My power is restored. Ra thought he could take it away from me and birth it within this child? Ha, he was wrong if he thought I'd let him when that easily."
Pegasus continued to toy with Yami flinging his body every which way.
"Stop." He heard the dark goddess say to him. He did so and turned to her questionably. She smirked at him, "You have done wonderfully, Pegasus, but unfortunately, I no longer have any need for you." she said before she stuck her hand out and sent a power wave toward Pegasus killing him instantly.
Yami looked up to Nephtys tiredly. There were open wounds all over his body and he was unable to move much. Pain coursed through him as blood flowed endlessly from him. He had the power, but not the will to fight. What was the point? What would he need to live for, anyway?
"Nothing." Nephtys said to him, reading his mind, "So you may as well…die." She whispered in a deadly voice.
Yami laid his head back down and closed his eyes; death seemed like the best option right about now.
Zaire looked to him tiredly. Whatever Nephtys took out, she needed it for her strength. "Yami." She whispered weakly as she watched the dark goddess take aim and her hand begin to glow.
Zaire pushed herself up. She couldn't let Yami die. She loved him. She couldn't stand by and just let him give up his life so easily.
Nephtys' eyes began to glow as the beam became brighter. She smirked, "Die."
Zaire shot up with what little energy she had left, "Yami." She yelled as she jumped in front of the blast.
Yami looked up and his eyes widened when he saw his love take his blow and fall to the ground.
"Zaire?" he said quietly and unbelieving of what he just saw, "ZAIRE?" he cried as he crawled over to her lifeless body. He pulled her up to him, her head falling back. He cried into her neck shaking his head, telling himself that this wasn't happening.
The dark goddess shrugged, "Oh well, now that she's out of the way."
Yami looked up to her and she stepped back. His eyes were glowing red and the millennium symbol shown brightly on his head as his body radiated with a bright golden glow.
Nephtys growled as she took her post, "You want to test my powers, Pharaoh? Very well then." She yelled as she brought forth her powers and released it as a great wave upon Yami.
Yami boosted his powers, his golden aura rising to block the dark wave.
The dark goddess continued to push her power, "You can't win, Yami."
Yami eyes glowed more as his aura raised to overpower hers.
Nephtys growled, "I WON'T LET YOU WIN. I AM MORE POWERFUL THAN YOU!" She yelled to him as she brought all her power out and released it.
The wave was only a couple inches away from Yami. It burned at his clothes disintegrating them.
Yami looked down at his clothes and back up at a smirking Nephtys. He looked over at the lifeless body of his love. As much as he wished to join her, he couldn't let Nephtys get away with this. There were still people to protect.
Yami's eyes landed on that of his puzzle. He smirked, "Nephtys," he yelled to her, "you won't win."
The goddess smirked, "You can't stop me." She said deadly.
Yami closed his eyes and drew from the power of the puzzle. He opened his eyes, "It's time to die, Nephtys," he whispered, "AND NEVER RETURN!" he shouted to her as he sent a huge power wave toward her.
The goddess screamed as the wave ripped at her body burning her from the outside in.
Yami fell to his knees exhaustedly. He turned to the door as he heard footsteps coming behind him.
The guard bowed to him, "My Pharaoh," he spoke softly, "the monsters have vanquished mysteriously. However I'm afraid that many were killed."
Yami fell onto the ground bringing his legs out in front of him. He looked to the ceiling, "Leave me." He whispered.
The guard bowed and left.
Yami looked over to Zaire and gathered her into his arms. He looked into her face bringing her hair out of her eyes. He sighed as he stood with her in his arms and walked over to his throne retrieving his puzzle.
He walked through the hall that was littered with bodies. His eyes widened when he saw the body of his best friend.
"Seto!" he cried as he ran over to his body. He looked into the lifeless face of his friend. He looked over and saw the body of Satire though it was covered in blood.
Yami felt something get caught in his throat as he placed his head down and began to cry. Everyone he cared about was gone. He looked at his puzzle and placed it down taking Zaire to the room that was closes and laid her upon the bed. He then returned and did the same to Satire and Seto.
Yami took his puzzle into the room with him as he sat upon the bed. He took a dagger that was always with him and examined it.
He held the puzzle close to him as he made a wish, "Please, reunite us again so that we may live happily with our loves and friends." He said with tears coursing down his cheeks before he took his dagger and stabbed it into his heart.
He fell unto the bed lifeless surrounded by his friends and love.
Unknown to them the puzzle began to glow as it made plans for them to meet again in another life.
