Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Fiction ❯ Absence of Color ❯ White Lie ( Chapter 6 )
[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]
Finally a day without hw. Let’s see what ideas pop onto my head this time. I’ve also decided that there isn’t going to be romance in this thing. There is going to be a lot plot developments though. I’m just going to brace myself and see what I come up with. Thx to everyone who has been reviewing. On with the story.
The ride from the airport into the city took about two hours. There was heavy traffic in the city, which startled Yami. He had never seen such congestion. He went to the nearest park and sat under a tree. There, he got the worst attack of homesickness.
“What the hell have I done? I’m...a stranger in this place away from home...What am I gonna do?”
He looked at his backpack and remembered the things that he had brought with him. They where the only links to home.
Funny how life is only what me make it out to be. He could have just stayed home and not given a shit about what anyone said. But he couldn’t. He couldn’t, because of what he and Yugi had shared. Besides, a body, they had Battle City, and Duelist Kingdom. Not to mention dealing with Doom. After all that, it did hurt.
He put his legs up to his chest and rested his head in his arms. He wanted to cry, to scream, to let it all out. He wanted to cut himself again, but he couldn’t. He had promised Grandpa. He reveled in his own thoughts until something snapped him out.
“Hey today’s the last day of the duel monsters tournament!”
“YEA! Let’s go!”
Just a little kid who hears that they are going to get a new toy, Yami’s ears perked up.
“Duel monsters...why don’t we take a look?”
Leaving his tormented thoughts behind, Yami picked up his things and inconspicuously followed
the two boys to the tournament area,
Yugi’s guilt was immense. He had single-handedly chased Yami away. Yami, the only person he loved like a brother. How could he have been so stupid?! Not surprisingly, he wasn’t the only one who felt that way. Yugi talked to the whole group about what they had done and what Sogoroku told him. They were all in Yugi’s house talking about the matter.
“Some friends we where,” uttered Ryou.
“Why did you guys follow Yugi?” remarked Marik sternly from his corner.
“I mean, none of you even tried to...help Yami and knock some sense into Yugi?”
No one said anything. He was right. Why didn’t they say anything?
“I guess we’ll never know. Maybe...hell I don’t know some things just happen.” Jounouchi’s voice sounded stressed and hurt.
“I swear I have never seen him so violent.” He remembered his little rumble with Yam.
“You should never try to fight a suicidal person”
Everyone looked at Kaiba. He had also received some of Yami’s blows. Everyone knew that he felt worse than he let on. He needed help getting every where and had to sleep sitting up. Kaiba tried to cool his anger but inside he was inching at a chance to kick Yami’s ass. That was, if he ever saw him again.
Yugi, on the other hand was trying to find s
“We have to find him and apologize. All of us.”
“He was the one who broke my fucking nose!” Jounouchi was mad. So was Kaiba only he didn’t say anything. They both wanted payback.
“How are we gonna find him Tea, he’s in New York right now.”
“We’ve gotta try Yugi. at least try.”
Everyone thought of a way to reach him, they couldn’t just follow him or call him. Or could they?
“I think...he took his cell with him.”
“Are you sure Yugi?” Jounouchi asked.
“He always had it with him.”
“So...who wants to make the first call?”
After five minutes of walking, Yami finally reached the stadium, where the tournament was being held. There was a crowd outside looking at duels on a tv screen on the outside. Yami had never seen it before. It could transmit several different duels at the same time with life point status. From the look of people going in there was no fee to enter the stadium. He thought if he should go in or not. He didn’t feel like dueling but just watching all those different duelists going at it made him excited. He went in.
Inside, there where many different tables and booths. You could buy individual cards, packs, boxes, duel disks, strategy guides, and medals. There were tables where people who didn’t have a duel disk or didn’t want one could duel. The people at those tables were mostly little kids who were barely beginners and trying to earn their stripes to be good enough to wield a duel disk. The duels weren’t being judged as part of the tournament and seemed to be just for fun and gaining experience. (A.N the “earn their stripes thing is a metaphor for those who are wondering) Yami stopped to look at the duels and started to remember when he was back home with Jounouchi who was learning to duel. He lost himself in his thoughts but quickly shook himself out of them.
“That’s my old life”
He looked around and noticed that there weren’t any hologram projected duels anywhere. He then noticed a sign on top of a doorway that said “to outdoor duels”. He followed it outside and found what he was looking for. Outside there was one duel going on. To his luck, he came out just in time to watch the final duel. It was between a guy labeled as Samano and another named Jared.
“Berfomet, attack!”
“Activate Mirror Force!”
“I counter with Seven Tools of the Bandit!”
The attack went through and Jared lost. He fell to his knees in defeat and stared at the ground. The referee went to Samano and announced his victory. Yami looked at Samano. For some reason, he reminded him of Kaiba. Smug, confident, sure that no one could beat him. His statement as he got off the platform confirmed Yami’s theory.
“What a loser did he really think I wouldn’t counter that card?”
He had stopped right in front of Yami and was talking to his friends when he noticed Yami. Yami ont the other hand had turned around and was about to leave.
“Hey! You with the spiky hair!”
Yami turned around slowly. He had a face that said ‘get away;’ and everyone stepped back a bit when they saw him.
“Yes?”
“Hey, aren’t you that guy from Japan...uh...Yugi? You won Duelist Kingdom and Battle City didn’t you?”
Yami thought about what to say. Should he say that he was Yugi? Naw, that was stupid. If he wanted to make a name for himself he had to make it by him own name. So, he told the truth.
“No.”
“Really? Wow you look just like him.”
“Crap they noticed. Well, what’s the good old-fashioned white lie? Oh yea...”
“That’s because he’s...he was my brother.”
“Brother?”
“Yea, but I guided him through every duel. You could say I taught him everything he knows.”
“Well, I’ve always wanted to meet the infamous Yugi Mouto, but I got something better.
Yami crossed his arms and braced himself for the upcoming blow.
“I’ve always wanted to duel Yugi, to prove that indeed I am the best duelist out there.”
“Damn this guy is like Kaiba’s clone”
“But since you’re here and you say you taught Yugi everything...then duel me.”
“Duel you?” Yami said in an annoyed tone.
“Why not? You’re not scared are you? Come on man, the teacher has to be better than the student. Prove yourself. Duel me, and maybe you’ll have my respect.”
Yami sighed deeply. Having Samano respect him wasn’t really on his wish list. Sure it would be great if he could get him to shut up just like he did to Kaiba.
“Tell me one reason why I should duel you.”
“Why? Good question. You see, I am a greedy man.”
“I noticed”
“When I see that someone has the potential to rise above me, I find them and crush them. That way I make sure that they never challenge me again and take my title. That’s how I came to be the champion today; by crushing the weaklings. Now, I see you. Yugi Mouto’s brother, the man who claims he taught the Battle City champion everything he knows! Now, if you say you ‘taught’ Yugi everything he knows, then that means, you’re better than him. And, if you’re better then Yugi, then there’s the possibility you are better than me. And I won’t let that happen.”
So that was it, Yami thought. This guy can’t take a little competition; he wants to get rid of it before it can come get him. He continued to stare at Samano, holding his ground. He didn’t want to duel. But from the look of it, he was going to have to.
“I’ll make you a deal Yami. I just won $25,000 in prize money. Beat me, and you can have it.”
Almost everyone around Samano gasped and told him not be an idiot. He ignored them.
“And if I lose”
“If you lose...you have to give me your deck and never duel again.”
“And if I refuse?”
“You cant.”
Yami was chucking on the inside. This guy wanted a duel. He was going to get one.”
“Fine”
“Good, let this be an official duel.”
Yami took out his duel disk and deck and walked to the dueling platform while the announcer explained to everyone what was going on. He looked around him. The stadium was filled to the max. Everyone was cheering for Samano who looked like Alexander who just came from conquering Egypt. All the fans reminded him of Battle City and his ex-friends who would always cheer for him. Again, he shook the thoughts out of him and prepared for duel. If he was going to make a name for himself it had to start here.
“Bring it on Samano”
