Dreizhen: I really don't know how this fic is going to turn out. I mean, it's been a LONG time since I started it. And I don't think it's good…judging by the number of people who reviewed.

But I do think Kistune of Darkness for the review. I'm continuing this for you!

On with the story (which I hope continues to stay good)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“You're doing good Yugi. Just keep it up.”
“Jou, please…stop.”
“Ooh…so good.”
“Please Jou, stop. Stop! STOP!”
“Yugi, Yugi!” Yugi sat straight up in his bed, sweating as if he'd been in an oven. He looked over to his side and Yami was there, staring at him in shock, “Yami…I had another nightmare. It was about…Jou.” Yugi collapsed in Yami's arms, crying harshly into his shirt.
Yami clung to him and comforted him, “There, there Yugi. It's all right. It's all over now. You're safe now.”
“I was so…scared. Why didn't he stop, Yami? Why didn't he?” Yugi cried, the tears streaking his cheeks and darkening his night shirt.
“Because he was a jerk, that's why. But now he's gone, and you're here, with me. Everything will be okay now, Yugi. I promise.” Yami replied, hugging him tightly, trying to soothe his worries.
“Why Yami? Why?” Yugi continued to cry. “Why….?”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

*Knock-knock* “I'm coming.” Yami walked to the stairway. He turned back to look at Yugi. He was sitting there, at the table, just stirring his cereal. He didn't say a word, and small tear streaks were still on his face. *Knock-knock* He walked down the stairs and to the door. In the windows, he could see Marik and Malik standing there, obviously not in the greatest of moods, “Hey you two. What are you doing here?”

“We were on our way back from taking Ryou home. We thought you should know some stuff.” Malik said, making his way to the stairs. Yami blocked his way though.

“If you're going to tell me about it, then tell me here. I don't want Yugi to hear.” Yami said sternly.

“Why? He has a right to know as much as you do.” Marik said.

“Not right now. He had nightmares last night about Jou. He doesn't need to hear about it right now. I'll tell him later.” Yami replied.

“Marik, will you tell him? I want to go and see Yugi.” Malik asked. Marik nodded and Yami opened the stairway path so Malik could walk up. Then he turned and leaned on the wall, facing Marik.

“So what happened?” Yami asked.

“Well, we took him back this morning. When we got there, we found the door unlocked and ajar, and when we walked in, we found Bakura on the couch…with a woman. Both of them were asleep and you could smell that alcohol. There were bottles everywhere. And poor Ryou…he just said `good-bye' in his usual happy tone and then began to pick the place up. It was just miserable.” Marik replied, sighing, “The damn tomb robber's going too far.”

“You can say that again. Poor Ryou. It reminds me so much of Yugi. A terrible thing…we have to stop it, now.” Yami said harshly, hitting his fist on the wall.

“I agree, but I don't know how. I mean, I don't want to put Ryou or us in danger.” Marik replied, rubbing his forehead.

“I think we should get Ryou away from there and soon. Before Bakura decides to give him a death beating.” Yami said, looking up the stairway. He could hear Yugi and Malik's happy voices talking about some new video game.

“Don't worry. We won't let anything like that happen again.” Marik said, putting his hand on Yami's shoulder.

Yami turned to him, a sympathetic look in his eyes. “I can't see it happen again. No one deserves that. No one.”

“Yeah, you're right. Now,” Marik said, walking a bit up the stairs and turning back, “Let's get up there before your hikari gets suspicious.”

“Yeah, good idea.” Yami replied and followed him up the stairs.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Hey, why don't we take a trip to the park today, as a group?” Malik asked. The four of them were sitting around the table, just talking. The others looked at him.
“Yes, I think that would be a good idea. What do you think, Yugi?” Yami asked, looking at him. He looked up at Yami and smiled.
“Then, it's settled. Let's go to the park!” Malik said, getting up and walking over to Yugi, “I'll race you to the door.”
“Okay!” Yugi jumped up, running to get his shoes, jacket, and scarf. Once he bundled himself up, he met Malik at the top of the stairs, “Ready, set…”
“Go!” Malik said, running down the steps. Yugi followed him close behind. Yami and Marik got up and walked to the edge of the stairway, watching them. Of course, because of size, Malik got there first. “I win, I win!”
“No fair. You got a head start.” Yugi pouted, pushing him playfully.
“Then how about this? We have a race in the park, and Yami can call when to start. That way, we'll be both have an even chance.” Malik said.
“Okay then!” Yugi replied, smiling. Then he looked up the stairs at Yami, “Well, are you two coming or not?”
“Of course we are.” Yami smiled. Marik walked down the steps behind him, and then the four of them went out the door and on towards the park.
When they got there, Malik looked around, “Where could we race? Hmm…how about there?” He pointed over to the fountain. “How about we race from the entrance to the fountain?”
“Wouldn't we run into people?” Yugi asked.
“Of course not. As long as you watch where you're going.” Malik winked.
“Well….okay then.” Yugi said, sort of nervous and scared. Yami patted his head.
“Don't worry. You'll be all right.” he said. Yugi looked at him and smiled, nodding his head.
“Well, come on, Yami. Start the race!” Malik smiled, standing ready to run. Yugi stood there, too, also ready.
“Okay then. On your mark, get set, GO!” Yami said. The two shot off, and Yugi slowly got in front of Malik. Then, when he got to the fountain, he almost fell in because he didn't stop soon enough. Luckily, Malik was close enough to catch him arm and pull him back before falling in.
“I won!” Yugi said happily.
“Yea, you won, fair and square.” Malik said, “And here's your prize!” He got Yugi into a headlock and starting give him a noogie.
“No…Malik…stop!” Yugi said, laughing.
“I'm glad he's smiling, finally. This morning, I thought he was going to depressed all day. Because of his nightmares.” Yami said, looking at Yugi and Malik playing.
Marik nodded his head, “Well, I think it's good that he's smiling. He needs to learn to move on from that event.”
“How can anyone move on from something like that?” Yami asked, looking at him icily.
“People need to learn to move on. Malik did. He learned to get over killing his father and being marked for the rest of his life.”
“For one, he didn't kill his father. YOU did.” Yami said, “And second, how do you know he did? Besides, that's nothing compared to the abuse Yugi went through.”
“No, it isn't. But it does scar a person mentally. But still…Yugi has to be strong enough to accept what happened and move on. And you have to move on from it, too.”
“What do you mean `I have to move on'?” Yami asked angrily.
“For Yugi to be able to completely move on, you have to be able to move on, too. Malik and I worked together to accept our problems in the past. He needs you to be strong, so he can be stronger, too. Babying him will get you nowhere.” Marik replied.
“You know, when you speak like that, you sound like a cold, heartless bastard. Like Jou really,” Yami said icily.
“I'm sorry you don't agree with me, but you don't need to insult me.” Marik said, clutching the Rod.
“Hey you two!” Malik said, running up with Yugi behind him, “Why don't we go for a bite? Yugi and I are hungry. Right Yugi?” Malik asked, turning to him. He nodded.
“Okay. There's a place nearby where we can eat.” Marik said, taking Malik's hand.
“Come on, Yugi. Let's get a bite to eat.” Yami smiled at Yugi. Yugi looked at him and nodded. Then, as they started walking behind Marik and Malik, Yugi looked up at him, a bit of worry in his eyes and face.
“Did Marik and you have a fight?” he mumbled. Yami looked down at him.
“Don't worry about it. It was just a…a creative discussion.” Yami replied, trying to soothe his worries.
“Well…okay. If you say so.” Yugi replied, looking away. Yami sighed and turned away from him. They walked in silence the rest of the way to the restaurant.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Hmm…what shall I eat? Yugi what do you think?” Malik said, leaning over to him. Yugi looked at him and glanced at the menu.

“Well…how about…the spaghetti and meatballs?” Yugi suggested.

“Yea, that's a great idea! Hey! How about we share it?” Malik smiled. Yugi nodded in reply. “Okay then, we'll share it and have some bread sticks, too!”

“Yami, what are you going to have?” Yugi asked, smiling at him.

He smiled back, “Oh, just some soup. I need something warm to cool me up. It's been so cold lately.” He chuckled.

“Yea, it has. Maybe we should have hot cocoa, too! What do you think, Yugi?” Malik asked, excitedly. Yugi nodded happily.

“Malik, one thing at a time, okay?” Marik asked, sighing. Malik giggled in reply. Yugi did, too.

Yami smiled at Yugi, `I'm so glad he's happy. Maybe he can finally begin to move on, like Marik said. Though, only a bit at a time.' he thought.

“Hello there. Welcome to Picasso's. Can I take your order.” Their waiter said.

Yugi, smiling, looked up, “Yes, we're going to have the….” Then, his mouth opened in shock and fear.

“Yugi, what is it?” Malik asked, looking at him. Then, he looked up and there, stood Jou, looking at Yugi with a pained face.

“You…” Yami said, darkening. “You asshole!” He shot up to punch Jou in the face, but Marik restrained him, holding back his arms. “Dammit, let me go!”

“No way, you fool. I won't let you get in trouble for something so stupid. Malik, get Yugi out of here.” Marik replied, looking at his hikari.

He nodded and took Yugi's hand, “Come on Yugi. Let's go.” He helped Yugi up and the two ran out the door.

“Yugi!” Jou was about to go after the two when he felt a kick in his leg. He hit the ground, clutching his leg. He looked up and Yami was glaring at him, ready to kill him.

“Don't you dare…get near Yugi. You hear me? Don't you dare get anywhere near him or I will kill you!” Yami raged, trying to get free from Marik's strong grasp.

“Come on, Yami. Let's get out of here. He doesn't deserve the beating. Not here. Come on,” Marik said, glaring at Jou before dragging Yami out of the restaurant.

Outside, Yugi was clinging to Malik, fearing for his life. When he saw Yami, he let go and ran over to Yami, jumping into his arms and holding close on him. Yami hugged him back, “It's okay now, Yugi. That bastard isn't going to get anywhere near you. Not as long as I'm here.”

“We're sorry about that. We should've gone somewhere else.” Malik said regretfully, leaning on Marik.

“It's okay. You didn't know. Now, I think we're going to go home.” Yami said, putting Yugi down and taking his hand, “Come on, Yugi.”

He didn't reply, but walked with Yami as the two left towards home. Marik and Malik watched them go until they turned the corner. Malik sighed and looked at Marik, “Well so much for trying to cheer Yugi up.”

“You did your best, love. We didn't know he would be there.” Marik replied, putting his arm around Malik's shoulders and walking with him.

“I know, but still…he was doing so well. And then that…that jerk had to show up.” Malik said, clenching his fist.

“I know. Maybe we can try again sometime.” Marik said. “But for now, let's just get home.”

“Okay. Maybe I'll call Yugi later and see if he's doing better.” Malik mumbled.

“I'm sure he would appreciate it.” Marik said, smiling at him. Then he kissed Malik on the forehead. Malik kissed him on the cheek gently. “I love you, Malik.”
“I love you, too, Marik.” Malik replied, leaning his head on Marik's shoulder as they walked along towards home.

When the two got home, Yugi ran up the stairs while Yami locked the door. He had done it ever since the incident when Jou had kidnapped Yugi. He shuddered at the memory, then climbed the stairs. When he got up there, he could see that Yugi's door was closed. He walked up to the door and knocked on it, “Yugi….Yugi answer me.”

“He was there. He was going to….hurt me again.” Yugi mumbled from inside.

“No he wasn't. I wouldn't let him. Please, let me come in.” Yami said desperately. Yugi didn't answer and he slowly opened the door. Inside, Yugi was under the covers, curled in a ball. “Yugi…”

“Stop Jou…stop.” Yugi stifled.

Yami sighed sadly and sat down on the bed. Without taking the covers off, he slowly stroked Yugi's curled up figure. “It's okay, Yugi. It's okay. Everything's going to be okay now, I promise. I promise.”
