BANG!

That's all he had heard before he died.

And all Mokuba heard before he lost his big brother.

Now, at the funeral, Mokuba was crying. The loss of his brother hit him hard, broken his heart. Seto had always thought himself alone, and perhaps, if Mokuba had died, he would have been. Totally alone. Although he himself felt alone in the world, he had good friends to help him through his hard times.

Seto had no-one.

Right now, he was clutching onto a sobbing Yugi's black jacket. Yugi was a good guy, an angel amongst devils, and one of the only ones to ever open show any sort of affection for his older brother. Yugi had actually thought of his rival as a friend, and the loss of any friend is hard.

In turn, Yugi and Mokuba were being held by the dark sprit that resided in the puzzle. Mokuba had come to look up to Yami, who was the strongest person he knew, other than his late elder brother. He needed that kind of dark strength in his life, and he knew that despite his words, Seto had always respected Yami as a true opponent.

And so it seemed, Yami regretted Seto's death more than he let on. The only one who ever actually challenged him without cheating or using magic. Seto relied on true skills to get him through duels, and Yami appreciated that. Never again would he be able to feel that strange rush that he did when he fought someone of his own calibre.

Dressed in black, the three of them were in a corner of the room being used for people to pay their respects to the lost Kaiba. Mokuba didn't know most of them, although, being the sharp kid he was, he figured they were only here to earn brownie points with the new owner of KaibaCorp. Him.

Perhaps the only ones there who cared were Mokuba, Yugi, Yami, their friends, and a few of their closer servants.

Not that it mattered, Seto was dead now.

Jou had been sad ever since Kaiba's untimely death. He couldn't even go to the funeral. He didn't think he'd be able to stop crying long enough to give the other `mourners' a bit of peace and quiet. Instead he had stayed home, and started reading the newspaper, hoping that it would take his mind off dead people.

And in other news, we are sad to announce the tragic death of Mr. Seto Kaiba. Mr. Kaiba was the seventeen-year-old CEO of the world renowned KaibaCorp. Famous for it's advanced hologram and virtual reality technologies, KaibaCorp made Mr Kaiba more money in a day than many of us hope to gain in a month.

And, it is rumoured, Seto Kaiba personally designed 5/6ths of his company's merchandise. He paid well, although apparently had a habit of firing, as he called them, `incompetent staff who don't know enough to turn on a goddamned computer!'.

Despite his company, Mr. Kaiba remained at Domino High Public school, where he achieved top grades. "A genius! Pure genius! Kaiba is smarter than most of the teachers here, myself included. He makes us feel as if we are no more than kindergarten children finger-painting. Surely he should have completed university years ago!" says a teacher (quote), who prefers to remain anonymous to the public. Domino High Principal has refused to comment

Not only this, but the remarkable teenager also managed to raise his younger brother Mokuba Kaiba, and become the former Champion of the world at `Duel Monsters.'. We managed to contact a very upset Mokuba Kaiba, who reported to us (quote) that "Seto was the best big brother anyone could ever hope to have!"

However, since Mr. Kaiba's death, KaibaCorp. stocks have plummeted, and caused great changes in the country's economy. In fact, KaibaCorp. provided many of the city of Domino's vital pieces of equipment, ranging from high-tech hospital equipment to a theme park designed for younger members of our community. How the city will suffer can only -

He couldn't read any more, and so collapsed onto his bed, crying his heart out. Jou couldn't for the life of him, figure out what was so wrong with him. He hated Seto Kaiba, right?

He squirmed and wriggled as though trying to get away from an invisible force holding him down, and even when he fell on the floor, he didn't care. Just kept crying.

Jou didn't know how long he was in there, just lost in his emotions.

When he looked into the mirror, he felt awful. His eyes were red and puffy from crying, his golden-blonde hair messy and falling into his face. Jou was paler than usual, too, and his eyes held a slight dull tint to them.

"You look awful, puppy."

A soft voice, from right behind him. Jou almost jumped straight out of his skin. One, he locked his bedroom door, and two, there was no-one reflected in his mirror, and three, Kaiba was the only one who called him puppy, and he was dead.

"You're imagining things, Jou." He told himself. "No-one's there, it's just your over-active imagination."

"Well, now I'm just a trick of the dog's mind. How can life - I mean, death, get any better at all?"

There it was again. Jou slowly turned around from his spot on the floor, and nearly died from shock right there.

A translucent form of Seto Kaiba was sitting on his bed, looking rather upset. "No…way!" breathed Jou. This wasn't happening! SETO KAIBA WAS DEAD!

"Oh, well, if I'm just a figment of some-one's imagination, a trick of the light, maybe I'll just leave. Perhaps I'll be more welcomed in hell."

Jou rubbed his eyes as Kaiba started to walk towards his door. "No wait, Kaiba!"

Kaiba stopped and turned his head around, silently contemplating Jou with his deep blue eyes. Jou noticed that they were the same as before he died, Icy, Bottomless, Beautiful. He had once come up with a way of describing Kaiba's eyes. They're like a bottomless pool of water. The water's crystal clear, but you can't see the end. It goes on forever.

"Oh, great. Once I'm dead, the only person who can see me is the mutt. Not Mokuba, not even Yugi. The DOG!"

Jou was puzzled for a second, and in that time, he really did resemble a puzzled puppy dog. "I - I'm the only one who can see you?"

"And the only one who can hear me." Kaiba muttered, turning around to sit back on the bed. He looked fairly depressed, but that was reasonable, considering he was dead.

"Why? Why can I see you and no-one else?"

"To be honest, I have no clue whatsoever."

"Alright, this is getting a bit much to deal with. I MUST be dreaming. Or I'm going completely nuts and seeing odd hallucinations." Jou pinched himself, and gave a yelp of pain when he found out that it hurt.

Kaiba's expression changed to an almost…hurt expression? Then his face slid back into the frozen mask. "Well, personally, I have always thought you are completely loopy."

Jou hit his head with his hand, before running out of the room. He had spent WAY too much time alone. Now he was starting to imagine dead people sitting on his bed. A nice long walk would probably help soothe his nerves. Maybe he would visit Yugi and then he could try telling Yami about his recent… `encounter' with the brunette.

Yes, that would be great.

He set off along the pavement, inhaling the sweet spring air, a fresh breeze playing with the strands of Jou's golden hair, flipping them in and out of his eyes.

But before long, he had the odd feeling that someone was following. He stopped, and then, sure enough, faint footsteps coming from behind him.

He whirled around to find himself face-to-face with one very persistent ghost.

"Abandoning me already?"

`And he calls me the puppy!' thought Jou, but he turned around and continued walking to Yugi's shop. Kaiba was still following him, but he didn't want to say anything to him, now being in a more populated part of town. People might think he was totally crazy talking to thin air.

Yeah, he already thought himself crazy. Didn't want to have more opinions on that.

Kaiba, however, was starting to feel annoyed with the stupid blonde. After all, he was ignoring him completely. After a normal-ish conversation, this stupid mutt was thinking he was crazy and trying to get rid of a ghost who just wanted someone to talk to. It got pretty boring when no-one could hear, or see you.

Jou kept walking, and after 15 minutes, 3 traffic lights, 9 crossings-of-roads, and about 300 people-in-the-way later, he finally reached the game shop. Breathing a sigh of relief, he looked around him to see if `Kaiba' was still there.

Nope.

The walk had been just the thing.

Now, to talk to Yami and Yugi. He pushed open the door, jingling the tiny bell lodged there. Yugi's Grandfather was watching the shop, he grinned at Jou, and stated "They're in the living room. Go right on back!"

Jou flashed a grin back at the old man and headed to where he knew Yugi was.

In fact, Yugi was in the living room, curled up on the sofa, apparently fast asleep. Yami and Mokuba were watching T.V. on the same couch, looking rather squashed. The T.V. was turned down quiet, and Jou could tell neither of them were really watching. Yami was watching his sleeping light, and Mokuba was staring off into space.

Jou cleared his throat fairly loudly, and Yami's head immediately jerked round, a finger going up to his lips to indicate to be quiet. Mokuba didn't react at all.

Yami got up from the couch, being careful not to knock either of the young boys on the couch on either side of him. Wordlessly, he made his way over to Jou, and then escorted him out of the room and into the kitchen.

"Hello Jounouchi."

"How many times do I have to tell you? Call me Jou!"

"Right. Jou. How can I help you?"

"Well, I just had a very disturbing event happen to me."

"Oh?"

"I saw Kaiba's ghost."

Yami's eyebrows shot up in astonishment. Then, with a glance behind him, as if to check if anyone had been listening, he led Jou over to the table in the connecting dining room. "Please don't mention Kaiba around Mokuba. He just bursts into tears."

"Why, I do believe I've found you, Jou."

Jou jerked around so fast he thought his head would come spinning off. Oh gods, it was Kaiba. "Why are you following me?"

Kaiba's lips twitched upwards into a smirk. "It's not like I have much else to do."

"Can't you just go bug someone else?"

"Nope. No-one else to bug. Sad, isn't it?"

"I'll say it's sad."

"Puppy, your friend is looking strangely at you."

Yami was indeed looking at Jou oddly. Of course, he only heard Jou's one-sided conversation. `Why are you following me?'… `Can't you just go bug someone else?'… `I'll say it's sad.'

"Jounouchi, are you feeling alright?" he ventured. Yugi wouldn't be happy if Jou was carted of to the `loony bin', as he called it.

"Yes, I'm fine. Can't you see Kaiba?" he snapped.

"No. But, if you insist, I'll search for another spirit?"

"Yeah, go ahead."

Yami concentrated. Now that he thought about it, he could see an odd flicker in the air behind Jou, and hear a faint whisper. As he stared at the spot, he could gradually se the outline of another spirit's body. Clearer…clearer…

It WAS Kaiba! And if he was right, he should be able to talk to him.

Author Notes:

Right, I've read some of these types of stories, and found a couple of them creepy beyond words. Kept seeing movements out of the corner of my eyes. *shudders* This WILL NOT BE THAT SCARY. In fact, it might be slightly humorous later.

Alright, the reason Jounouchi is seeing Kaiba will be disclosed later on. Keep in mind that Jou is a very accepting guy, after all, he accepted two evil spirits in magical items, and dealt very well with his mind being controlled. That's why he accepted Kaiba's ghost so quickly.

Kaiba's death will also be erm… `relived' later on, so no worries about that.

If people seem a bit OOC, the main reasons are:

Kaiba just DIED!

Accident.

Tell me if this happens. (This is my first fic here, so be nice.)

Oh and btw, Yami, Yugi and Yugi's grandfather are looking after Mokuba while Kaiba is…dead. This'll also be explained.

Please review for me. Also appreciated is votes on whether or not to have Seto/Jou Jou/Seto or what? ^^ Come on, y'know you want to! ^_~
