The hard pulsing sound of boots hitting grey stone echoed throughout the halls of the massive building. A young boy ran hard and fast, his chest heaving up and down in an attempt to provide his small body with more oxygen. Beads of sweat collected on his forehead as an unknown monster chased him.
After what seemed an eternity, the boy was forced to stop. His feet threatened to make his body tumble over the edge of the now non-existent floor and he flailed his arms wildly to maintain his balance. Once that had been accomplished, he allowed himself a few gulps of air before panic set in. The beast, the creature, was still chasing him, and he had nowhere to go; nowhere to run. His amethyst eyes dilated slightly in fear as his body began trembling with horror.
The soft fall of worn leather could be heard echoing through the dozen or more hallways, making the boy shrink into the shadows. An evil mechanical laughter reverberated throughout the entire building as the young one drew his knees up to his chest as he hugged them tightly. Silent tears began streaming down his face as the footsteps drew closer and closer.
Suddenly, as if magically transported, the figure appeared a few feet away, out of the dim shadows. The young man radiated confidence and superiority that few could match. His ensemble, consisting mostly of gently worn black leather, complemented his every curve of muscle, from his chest, to his legs, to his prominent hip bones. Wild hair seemed to flail about him as if by wind, even though he stood in an enclosed building. Stunning, silky black hair seemed to almost shimmer in the dim torch light as the occasional natural streak of red could be seen. Blonde bangs, almost too blonde to be natural, framed his angular face. Orbs of deep crimson shone beautifully, yet they were devoid of all emotion. The creature was empty, cold, and cared for no one; nothing. It was so painfully obvious that Yugi shrunk farther into himself, willing the figure's eyes away from his frail body.
But the young man's eyes stopped on the crouched boy; drank in his tangled hair much like his own and his torn clothing. He took in the light amethyst eyes that radiated innocence and the child-like face even though the boy was very much a teenager. But most of all, he took in the fear in the boy's eyes; the dilated pupils and the wide eyes that were even more so than usual. He took in the boy's trembling form and the way he willed himself to disappear. Smirking, the figure approached the frightened boy. He knelt in front of him and tilted his face up none too gently, making him tremble even more.
Yugi, however, was not ready for what happened next. He was not expecting the harsh slap across his face or the steady stream of curses that followed. He tried hard to ignore the pain as he was slapped again and again.
You're worthless!!” the pharaoh screamed. “You're not good for one damn thing; not even for a good fuck! I hate you; get out of my life, get out of my sight!” The slaps became harder and faster; soon drawing blood. “You are a worthless bitch that has never been anything to me, never! I want you gone; I want you to disappear. I want to make sure you pay again and again for what you have done to me! You make me weak, you make me kind; YOU MAKE ME PATHETIC!! Now get out!
With the last yell, Yugi was harshly thrown against the wall; the only sound reverberating through his ears was his bones breaking…and the hurtful words that threatened to haunt him for the rest of his life…before everything went black.

Yugi's eyes suddenly shot open; his hands clenching white bed sheets in his hands as he fought to catch his breath. Tears streamed freely down his face as fear from the dream washed over him in waves.
Yami, who had heard Yugi moaning in fear from the other side of the bed, was now running his fingers through the boy's silky soft hair; not wanting to startle him by wrapping him in a fierce hug. When Yugi finally awoke, fear in his eyes and tears down his cheeks, the brought the boy close to his bare chest, placing his chin on top of the spiky tri-color mop as he tried to calm his lover down.
“Yugi…love,” Yami said gently, “You are safe now don't worry.”
But upon hearing the voice that had haunted his dream, he tore himself from the warm embrace and ran; his bare feet padding frantically against the carpet.
Yami was momentarily stunned by the sudden movement, but quickly regained his composure. So as not to scare his light even further, he exited the bedroom; his silk pajama pants whispering against the floor quietly.
When Yugi reached the living room, he plopped on the couch and sobbed with abandon; his shoulders shaking and body convulsing. He could never stand it if Yami ever turned out that way…and he was afraid that his harsh actions had make his lover mad; and that was something he definitely did not want.
When Yami stepped into the living room and saw the young teen sobbing into the couch, he threw all caution to the wind. Instantly, he was at Yugi's side. He knelt in front of the couch and gently placed his hand over his hikari's, intertwining their fingers together while his thumb gently caressed the pale digits.
“Yugi,” Yami said softly, as gently as he could, “What's wrong; please tell me…”
Yugi couldn't stand it anymore; wrenching his hand from his yami's, he threw his arms around the spirits neck while he nuzzled his shoulder, seeking comfort.
Yami grabbed his little light by the waist and brought him down into his lap. He wrapped his arms around Yugi's trembling body; holding him as close as possible.
“Yami,” Yugi sobbed, “It was so horrible! I was running, running; someone was chasing me. I was so scared and when the creature finally caught up to me, they were cold, emotionless, and uncaring. The figure told me how worthless I was…how I wasn't good for anything…a-and t-the p-person w-was y-you, Y-Yami…” Yugi finally broke down and began sobbing again; pushing himself impossibly closer to the one he loved and trusted.
Yami's grip tightened even further upon hearing the details of his light's dream. “You're not worthless Yugi…don't ever say that. I would never say that to you, I love you, and anyone else who did would be getting a one-way ticket to the Shadow Realm. It's okay Yugi…just hush…”
Yami rubbed his hikari's back reassuringly until the boy's sobs became mere hiccups.
“Yami,” Yugi said softly, “Promise me you'll never leave me…”
Yami tilted Yugi's head up, so much like the dream, but gently this time and his eyes were full of love. Yugi instantly felt all traces of hesitation leave his body as Yami's lips descended on his own in a soft gentle kiss.
Yami gently broke the kiss, his lips hovering just over Yugi's. “Never…”
