Ryou slowly rocked back and forth, his knees drawn up to his chest, on the couch, his novel forgotten on the plush gray carpet. The room itself was dimly lit; it contained a pull-out sofa, a mini fridge, a microwave, a small coffee table, which was situated in front of the sofa, and a small oak desk with a comfortable office chair.
Ryou sighed quietly as his eyes locked on the digital clock that hung from the pale wall opposite him. Two-thirty. In the morning. Ryou yawned, displaying small, perfectly chiseled white teeth and a soft pink tongue. He rubbed his chocolate eyes stubbornly as he willed himself not to fall asleep. He stared longingly at the adjoining door. He knew Seto expected him to have left Kaiba Corp. long ago; that the CEO had no idea he was waiting in his adjoining room.
It's not like the albino wanted to leave. It was just, he had college to attend, tests to study for…but none today. No, today was the start of winter break, a full six weeks off from his hectic study schedule…and he was determined to spend most of it with the lover he hardly ever saw.
Ryou pulled his pullover sweater closer around his body. The room was freezing; Seto always left the heater (or air conditioner, depending on the time of the year) off when no one was using it. On weekends when Seto knew Ryou would wait for him to finish work or on days that he had to stay the night, Seto would turn it on. Just another sign that Seto did not expect him to stay long.
And no, he wasn't going to ask him to turn the heater on…Seto had, had a grueling enough day as it was. He could tell by the way his lover's harsh blue eyes would harden further and his entire body would be tighter, like a spring just ready to release in a sudden surprise attack. And Ryou definitely did not want to be on the receiving end of such an attack. No, he could handle the cold…he would be fine….

------------------

Seto's ice-like eyes robotically swept over the glaring screen in front of him, checking the programming code for any sign of error or misjudgment. Seto sighed and glanced at the clock on his computer…three in the morning. Seto stopped scanning for a moment and tiredly rubbed his eyes. This would be another all-nighter; there was simply too much work to be done.
Knowing that he wouldn't be going home tonight, Seto got up from his computer and entered a number code on the keypad laying on the opposite wall, setting the temperature much warmer than it was now; Seto had no desire to sleep in a fifteen degree room. That having been done, he sat back down in front of the computer and hooked up his silver headset, which was hooked up to his cell phone. He dialed a familiar number to let Ryou know he wouldn't be home that night. The small albino, the first time he had stayed at the office, had been near furious with him that he didn't call his lover to let him know he wasn't dead, or worse.
Seto frowned when no one answered the phone; his albino koi always had the damned contraption on him, even while asleep. Frowning, he got up and grabbed his trench coat, intent on leaving, when a loud sneeze made him jump.
He turned around, draped the coat across his desk chair, and opened the door to the adjoining room. His eyes widened in shock as he saw a bundle of shivering white lying on the sofa. The shivering heap was covered in blankets and his face was buried in a pillow.
Once the shock of seeing his lover still there had died down, he noticed faint whimpers and moans coming from the boy. He slowly walked over and knelt beside the couch. He touched a hand to his lover's wool-covered shoulder and swept up to his neck, feeling the pale flesh there.
The CEO instantly flinched back on reflex as he felt the burning temperature of the boy's skin. Looking now, he noticed that the albino's soft face was flushed and blazing hot, wet tears streaming down his face.
Still not alerting Ryou of his presence, Seto walked over to the microwave and grabbed the bottle of aspirin off the top of the microwave. He dumped two pills out on his hand and grabbed a bottle of water out of the fridge, closing the door with his elbow.
Kneeling back beside his lover, he ran a hand through lightly damp strands of pure white; angelic. Ryou's eyes instantly shot open in surprise, which was quickly replaced by guilt.
“I'm sorry Seto; did I disturb you? I was just waiting up for you, I didn't mean-”
Seto shook his head and smiled slightly as he softly fingered the burning cheek. He had heard the faint pain in his voice, even though he tried to hide it, and had to keep from grimacing every time the raspy voice hit his ears.
“Here,” Seto said softly, picking up the two pills and the bottle of water off the coffee table. Ryou managed to sit up and held out a shaking hand so he could take the pills. Seto caringly closed the hand and lightly rubbed the cold knuckles. He tapped his fingers lightly on Ryou's lips, and the boy obeyed the unspoken command, opening his mouth. Seto slipped the pills on his burning tongue and brought the water bottle to his lips. He gently grasped his chin, tilting it upwards, and slowly poured the water down his smoldering throat.
Ryou eagerly drank the ice cold water, the contrast making him sigh slightly in pleasure. The albino's head lolled against the couch as his eyes drifted tiredly closed, his body too weak to resist the temptation of sleep as Seto placed the bottle back on the table.
Seto, not wanting to leave his lover here when he knew he was sick, went into his adjoining office and shut down his personal computer, grabbing his trench coat on the way by. He re-entered the side room and gingerly wrapped Ryou in the soft, warm material. He then gently lifted the boy, who never once woke through the whole ordeal. Instead, his head rolled and laid it against Seto's chest, a soft sigh escaping his lips as he found contentment in the one he loved.
Seto smiled softly, fondly, at the young albino and nuzzled his cheek lightly while he headed out into the parking lot to get to his car. He looked at the boy and smirked slightly. Now that he was sick, he doubted he would get very much work done for the next few weeks…but it was worth it, every second with Ryou was worth it, and he knew that even if he had to push back some meetings, he would. Anything was worth it, if only to see his young koi smile, or laugh, or pounce on him when he came home from work. Yes, anything was worth that one chance to see his lover happy…
