Almost Paradise

(Author's Notes: Hey, everyone! DJ Rodriguez here, with another songfic that pairs Yugi with a lucky fangirl! Who is it? You have to read it to find out!

I do not own Yu-Gi-Oh, or the song Almost Paradise by Mike Reno & Ann Wilson from the movie/soundtrack Footloose.)

I thought that dreams belonged to other men

It was April 25th, 2003. It was a lovely night at Domino City, around 8:30 p.m. However, something was up at Domino High School. Lights were lit up in the gymnasium, and couples were going in there in droves. Yes, it was Prom Night at the school, and nearly every senior was there! The ladies were dressed up in their best, while most of the guys sported sharp tuxedos.

Sweet music filled the air, and that's when the couples decided to go out on the floor. Joey and Mai danced together, moving greatly to the music. Tea and Tristen were also present, holding each other close as they slow danced. Ishizu and Seto were there too, hitting it off quite well. Even Yami, Ryou, Bakura, Malik, and Marik were there with dates too!

I feel my heart would beat in secrecy

I face the nights alone

That all my life I only needed you

However, there was some people that came with no dates. One of them was Yugi Moto, and he was looking very sad and lonely. He was with a few others, those that didn't come with dates. There were a few girls with him and the other boys, not having dates and too shy to ask any of them for a dance.

One of them, a beautiful girl, looked over at the young man. "Wow! He's totally cute!", she said to herself. She turned a girl beside her and asked, "Hey, Karen, I wonder who he is and why he's here without a date?", she asked her friend beside her. This other girl turned to see on what her friend was looking at, and after a quick glance, replied, "Oh, that's Yugi Moto, K.C.".

{Whoa-oa, almost paradise

We're knocking on heaven's door

The girl, known as K.C Whitestar, almost felt her jaw drop to the ground. "That's THE Yugi Moto?! The one who won the Battle City Tournament a year ago?!", she exclaimed. She always wanted to meet the King of Games, and daydreamed on what he looked like. She checked on what his personality was like, and was very pleased to hear that he was more of a caring, loving gentleman rather then an overconfident, arrogant snob.

She wasn't disappointed at all on what she saw. She saw that he was kinda short, but it didn't matter. He was very cute, and also handsome in his black tux. "Does he have a girlfriend?", she asked Karen. Karen shook her head sadly and answered, "Nope. Sad to say, no girl wants to go out with him because of his height.".

How could we ask for more?

K.C was taken aback by this answer. "What?! That's crazy! What girl in their right mind think like that about Yugi?!", she exclaimed. She took a good look again at the boy, and saw that he was looking quite wistfully at the crowd, his violet eyes showing sadness.

K.C stood up and said, "Well, I'm going to go talk to him! Who knows? Maybe I could get a dance with him!". Karen wished her luck, as she saw K.C walk over to the King of Games. "I hope she'll be able to cheer him up. Its sad to see a handsome boy like that without a date.", she told herself.

Yugi was looking at the couples, listening to the music. It moved him, and then it stopped. The couples were clapping, and leaving the floor so they could rest before the next one could come up. He was about to go to the snack bar when a soft voice called out, "Excuse me.". He looked up to his right, and saw the most beautiful girl he had ever seen standing before him.

"Oh, hi.", he said. K.C smiled warmly at him and replied, "Hi.". She sat down next to him, both slightly blushing. She asked, "Are you Yugi Moto, winner of the Battle City Tournament?". He nodded and answered, "Yes, I am.". He was used to people asking him if he was really the one to win the tournament.

It seems like perfect love so hard to find

You must have read my mind

Both of them started to talk about stuff, on any kind of subject they wanted. It seemed both had a lot in common, K.C also being a duelist and also liking Duel Monsters as much as Yugi. "So, do you have a girlfriend, Yugi?", she asked. She knew the answer, but wanted to hear it straight from him.

His smile, which nearly melted her heart, soon turned into a sad one. "No.", he answered. He explained, "I have had crushes, but nothing serious. They all had other loves, so I let them be and wished them luck.". He was talking mostly about Tea, on when she told him that she was in love with Tristen. So, they remained friends, but nothing more.

And all these dreams I saved for a rainy day

They're finally coming true

I'll share them all with you

Now we hold the future in our hands

K.C was still surprised on how girls could just say no to Yugi. "Well, if I had the chance, I never turn you down.", she said unknowingly. She quickly realized on what she said, and covered her mouth fast. 'I didn't mean for it to slip out like that!', she thought. 'He must think I'm a total nerd now!', she also thought.

She looked at Yugi, and saw that his face showed surprise at her declaration. She quickly apologized, got up, and tried to leave. She didn't want to embarrass him more. However, she felt a strong, yet gentle hand grip on to her left hand. She slowly turned around, and saw Yugi looking directly into her eyes.

Yugi asked hopefully, "Do you really mean it?". His feelings had been toyed by other ladies, but he was always willing to take a chance. K.C saw the hope in his eyes, and she smiled warmly at him. She answered, "Y-Yes, I really do mean it.". And she did, with all of her heart.

Just then, a beautiful song came one. It was Almost Paradise, a very popular romance song from a movie Yugi once saw called Footloose. Yugi looked at K.C, smiled and asked, "Care to dance with me, K.C?". K.C answered while making a small curtsy, "Yugi, I would consider it an honor.".

We're getting closer, closer everyday

When they got onto the floor, all of the couples got off and they now had the entire thing now! The lights dimmed down, and the white spotlight was on them. However, they barely noticed it as their entire attention was on each other, and not anything else.

K.C and Yugi both felt like they were in paradise. 'It may take awhile, but I know we'll be a good couple eventually.', both thought at the same time. Yugi pulled K.C closer, and she relished the warmth from being so close to him. 'This song is perfect for us.', she thought as she continued to dance away with Yugi Moto. Their future was clear; they were going to be together.
