Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Fiction ❯ Altered Destinies ❯ Chapter 1: Let's Duel ( Chapter 1 )

[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]

This is my first attempt at a Yu-Gi-Oh fanfiction so please be kind in your reviews, if you review. I might not have many of the characters in character. On another note I do not own Yu-Gi-Oh and never will. I don't know whom it is that owns Yu-Gi-Oh and besides giving these unknown parties credit for making such a kickass manga/anime, I don't really care. Also, I don't have any money right now so, no one can benefit at all when it comes to suing me.

I came up with this idea when I read a couple of stories that I have read on fanfiction.net. One was recently taken off for some reason but it had been a good story. The other focused on the series if Yugi had been born a girl. I decided to take my shot at this kind of story but using Seto Kaiba. I will only mention this once so pay attention:

/Backslash/ - a conversation between a person and their spirit. i.e.: Yugi to Yami and vice versa.

//Double Backslash// - the person is thinking.

-Altered Destinies, Chapter 1-

"Kaiba, Kaiba, Kaiba, Kaiba." The crowd cheered as the two figures stared at each other on the arena floor. The intensity of both duelists could easily be seen as neither one backed down from each other.

Kaiba was the first to break the silence, "Well Yugi, I say it is time to get this show on the road." Kaiba reached into the pocket of his suit pants. "Play time is over."

"Yes play time is over and it is time to duel," Yugi said calmly. "But first, I promised to reveal a secret of yours when I got here and you promised to confirm this if I do get it right."

"I don't have the time for this so what ever it is that you think you know, say it," Kaiba said frustrated. "Then be ready to lose."

"It must've been very hard circumstances to cause you to be the way you are," Yugi said. "You say that you a true gamer. You do have what it takes skill wise, but being a true game master is about being yourself than anything else and that takes heart. You lost your way because you haven't been yourself, but then you've probably never have had the chance to be you true self."

"Just get to the point so I can crush you in this duel," Kaiba yelled. "Your mind games wont work on me, so all this is just a big waste of my time and I am certain it is a waste of this crowd's time. They came here to see a duel, not to see two teenage boys arguing."

"I personally would like to know the details of this eventually," the shorter teen said. "But why don't you just drop this facade of you being a male. You are no longer fooling me and I am surprised that most of the people here haven't seen the signs as well."

"BOO, BEET THIS PSYCHO KAIBA, HOW DARE HE SAY THAT YOU ARE NOT A MAN." The crowd got rowdy after Yugi mad the announcement of the secret. Seto just stood there staring at Yugi. If he was surprised, he certainly didn't show it at all. He was just studying the boy with three different hair colors. Yugi just looked back at him with conviction of what he just said. Anzu and Jounouchi watched their friend with concern for his sanity. There is no way that could be his secret.

"I just have one question for you Motou," Kaiba said in a deadly calm voice.

"WHAT KIND OF CRACK ARE YOU SMOKING?" A voice yelled out much to the crowd's humor.

"Actually," Kaiba said, "What clued you in?" The crowd gasped, Seto Kaiba, Japan's number 1 gamer and a champion in Magic and Wizards: Duel Monsters, a girl after all this time. Even Joey and Anzu were surprised and unbeknownst to everyone there, so too was Isis.

"This can't be right," Isis said though no one could hear her or so she thought. "How could Kaiba be the High Priest's reincarnation if Kaiba was a girl?"

"Actually," a voice said behind her. "Priest Seto always preferred to be called the Oracle. She was an extremely powerful medium for the gods and her father had forced her to conceal her gender for so long. I see fate dealt this incarnation the same kind of hand as well."

Isis turned to a person that she met a little while. "Shadi, how did you get-"

"I'm just full of surprises," Shadi said. "I can travel through the Shadow World. As for how I knew about this, you'll just have to find that out on your own." With that said, Shadi just disappeared into the floor. Isis turned her attention back to the two people who were about to start the duel.

"Alright," the brown haired businesswoman started by placing a card on the table. The sounds of a machine humming followed. A green humanoid figure with one eye appeared above her head. "Cyclops, sign of attack." (4/1200/1000)

"Whoa," Jounouchi stepped back. "Those holograms are bigger from here than on screen." Anzu could only nod.

"A monster with 1200 attack points," Yugi commented. "I'll counter with this card. Wall Guardian Dragon." (4/1400/1200) "Attack." The blue dragon fired a fireball out of his mouth and destroyed Kaiba's Cyclops. (K: 1800 Y: 2000)

"Good," the brunette added. "Now it's time to kick this up a notch. I'll play this in sign of attack." A vile worm like beast appears on the field (3/1400/700.) "Wicked Worm Beast attack with poison stream."

"My dragon has the power of flight," Yugi countered. "Giving it a 35% chance to evade and counter." The Wall Guardian Dragon flew above the attack and struck with Kaiba's monster done.

"No big deal since they had equal attack strengths," Kaiba shrugged. "Since first edition rules allow me to set a monster a barrier if I have no monsters on my field, I'll chose this." A monster appeared on the field but it's identity was unknown. Yugi drew one card that looked like person's leg and placed a monster in defense. "Now I'll switch this to attack mode." A demonic look clown revealed itself on the field. (3/600/1500.) The crowd was confused as to Kaiba's move.

Yugi was one of the confused one to, "Dark Clown Master: Saggi. Why play such a weak monster?"

"Did I say end turn yet?" Kaiba questioned. "I'm not done for I add Darkness Generator to triple my monster's attack (1800.) Now attack his pathetic dragon Saggi." The clown created a ball of energy and threw it at Yugi's monster.

"My dragon, NO!" The small dragon was destroyed in the blast. (K: 1800 Y: 1600)

"This is not good," Jounouchi commented. "Because of that magic card, that jerk's clown is stronger than most of the monsters I've encountered in Yugi's deck."

"Yes, but this is Yugi's Grandfather's deck," Anzu said. "Surely that would have something that could beat Kaiba's monster? Come on Yugi, you can do it."

Yugi looked at the card that he just drew. He notices that it looked similar to a card in his hand and set it next to that one. //That's no good now. Maybe for defense against his Blue Eyes.// "I'll just put this in sign of defense."

"Attack Saggi," Kaiba's Saggi destroyed Yugi's defense monster. Many turns go by as Kaiba's clown lays waste to Yugi's monsters. It was once again Yugi's turn. "Why don't you just give it up Yugi? You haven't gotten past my clown yet and this is his weakest combo. So much for the card's heart. Look where that obscure belief got your Grandfather, and now, you're in the same position. Losing, like all the others that came before me."

"My grandfather's heart is in that deck and I will believe that his cards will guide me to victory," Yugi said, "and I have faith in my friend's support in me. I doubt you have such faith in your deck, or if you did, then you have lost that faith." Yugi drew a third card just like the other two and set it next to them in his hand and selected a card with a warrior on horseback.

"You tell him, I mean her Yugi," Jounouchi shouted. "There's no way she can beat you. No one has yet and no one will with us by your side."

"What nonsense," Kaiba said. "You think support from a couple of teens will win you this. No duel has ever been won because some people cheer you. It has always been won by the duelist whose deck has the most powerful cards in it. I've dueled over 1,000 times against virtually all kinds of opponents, including a virtual reality copy of my deck and myself and I've never lost. Faith has never won me a duel and it never will. Strong cards, the skill to use them properly, and a little bit of luck to draw them are all a duelist needs."

"Then you are more of a fool than I thought," the multicolor hair boy said. "Believe in your cards and they'll always come through for you in the end. I've been saving this card for an emergency so here I go. Dark Knight Gaia, sign of attack." A dark knight with twin lances and riding a horse appeared. (7/2300/2100) Gaia charged Saggi and ran through him. (K: 1300 Y: 1600)

"Dark Knight Gaia huh," the blue eyed boy said. "The strongest Warrior monster to date. So your grandfather's deck does have rare cards in it. I guess it is time to get really serious." Yugi's eyes widened and Kaiba took a card from the far right of his hand threw it down. "Blue Eyes White Dragon, sign of attack and destroy his knight." A large white dragon formed above the duelist and shot a ball of white energy at Yugi's knight, incinerating it (8/3000/2500) (K: 1300 Yugi: 900.) "Why so surprised Yugi? You knew they were in my deck, waiting to greet you." Yugi drew and placed a card in defense and Kaiba countered by drawing and playing a second Blue Eyes White Dragon.

"This is really bad," Anzu said. "Kaiba has two of those dragons that Grandpa has on the field. Who knows what else is in store?"

"The fact that Kaiba has three of them and tore up the fourth makes it hard to overcome," Jounouchi said. "Yugi doesn't have any monsters that can stand up to that kind of firepower so I don't know what Yugi can do to win but he will."

"You're right," the shorter brunette said. "Hang in their Yugi."

"How naive people can be," the taller brunette commented. "You know there is no card that can match up to what is in store for you."

//Or is there.// The purple-eyed boy thought. //There is something about these three cards in my hand, but I can't figure out what.// After a slight moment of thought, it hit Yugi. //Of course, Grandpa said something about them.//

-Flashback-

"Yugi," an old man with a gray beard said to the boy. "It's true that in Magic and Wizards, the monster with the highest attack strength wins. Which is why you need an assortment of magic cards and the up and coming set of trap cards to get rid of monsters that can beat down even your best. However there is one monster in the game that is truly undefeatable once summoned to the field. It is done through a collection of 5 cards known as the sealed cards. It is Exodia and you must have the five pieces in your hand in order to summon it."

-End Flashback-

"Well, are you going to make your next move?" Kaiba asked impatiently.

"Sure will," Yugi drew a card, and it was one of the cards he needed. "Good, I'll playing Sealing Swords of Light." A bunch of swords rained down onto Kaiba's two dragons. "Now your Dragons can't attack for three full turns. See where my trust in my cards got me."

"No matter," Kaiba said. "You're only delaying the inevitable Yugi? I won't make a move this turn." Yugi drew a fourth sealed card and played a defense monster. Kaiba drew and played, "Judge Man, sign of attack and destroy his defense monster." A big guy in a purple cape appeared and moved in front of the dragons that were pinned in place (6/2200/1500.)

Kaiba said, "I have defeated what is probably the best card in your Grandfather's deck so I know you don't have the Demon Summon on you."

"Which is why I play Black Magician, sign of attack and destroy your Judge," A tall man in wizard robes and a hat appeared and pointed his staff at the Judge Man (7/2500/2100.) "Dark Magic." The bearded monster was destroyed (K: 1000 Y: 900.) "It is quite a shame now. I can now see it all."

"What are you talking about," the tall blue-eyed girl said.

"How you lost your gamer's heart," Yugi answered calmly. " You sealed it away like a fool. The only thing that was giving this company any credibility was you being the best gamer in Japan which isn't even true cause you don't play with heart. It's kind of sad how you put yourself in this situation. With each victory, a piece of your heart hardens and you lose yourself. You play only for power and greed now and have forgotten the true spirit of games. That will be your downfall in this duel."

"Enough," Kaiba shouted and drew the next card in her deck. After seeing what it was, she smirked. "It's time to end this Yugi, my dragons may be frozen right now, but those swords have no effect on my third Blue Eyes." The third of Seto's Blue Eyes appeared and destroyed the Black Magician on the field (K: 1000 Y: 400.) "I'll end my turn and the effects of your swords. Next turn will be your last as my dragons prepare for an attack and reduce you down to negation 8600 life points."

//She's right. The chance of getting the Sealed Exodia card is slim and I haven't been getting many magic cards lately.// Yugi thought as he reached for the top card of his deck but it felt like it was out of his reach. //Oh no. The deck is sensing my fears and doubt. Focus on the match and believe in the cards.// In is mind, three hands appeared next to his. He saw his three friends, Honda, Jounouchi, and Anzu smiling at him. The images disappeared and he was brought back to the match. Noticing the card in his right hand, he couldn't help but smile. "It looks like my belief has rewarded me this match Kaiba."

"Oh really," Kaiba said. "Need I remind you that there is not a single monster in Magic and Wizards that can stand up to this onslaught. So whatever pathetic you got, play it so I can end this."

"If you had the same faith in your cards, then you'd realize that there is no such thing as a pathetic card," Yugi said. "As for the next card I play, it's my entire hand as I play Exodia."

"NO WAY," Kaiba shouted. //He had pieces to Exodia this whole time.// The crowd watched in stunned silence as they saw the first successful summoning of Exodia. A circled pentagram formed over the battlefield as a huge figure dressed in gold and chain appeared from the symbol of power. Kaiba could only stare in fearful awe of the mighty beast before his dragons as it gathered a large amount of energy in its hands and threw it at direction of her and her dragons. The Blue Eyes were incinerated instantly on contact and Kaiba threw her arms up in a futile attempt to block the blast. The light washed over her body and she could feel something burning off her (K: 0 Y: 400.) The light disappeared and she saw Yugi point a finger at her with a glowing eye on his forehead. "Y-, Y-, You, You," Kaiba was shaking saying. //How could this have happened? My three Blue Eyes were blown away as if they were nothing.//

As if reading Kaiba's thoughts, Yugi said, "True, your dragons were indeed powerful. Then again, even the weakest of monsters can join force and together they form an infinite or near infinite power that can defeat any foe. I win."

//He had Exodia. He even summoned Exodia.// Kaiba thought. "To think, after 1,000 matches, I would be defeated by a mere miracle."

"Kaiba," Yugi accused. "As long as you believe in the heart of the cards, miracles can happen. I win, and for the loser, a penalty game. It's time for you to pay for your crimes."

"W- wait, I-," Kaiba whispered. //Why hasn't my Death Simulation Chamber claimed me yet? It was set to activate around the loser as soon as the duel was done.//

"Penalty Game: Mind Crush." Yugi opened his palm up. Kaiba could only stare as another bright light washed over her senses. She felt a great weight removed before blackness swallow her. She fell back in her seat with a blank look on her face and her eyes becoming a dull grayish-blue. //I've destroyed the part of you heart that was filled with evil. You will be trapped in you own body and in that coma until you can piece your shattered heart back together again. This is my gift to you for not seeing the hardship you put on yourself and for not freeing you from this evil influence earlier.//

-Elsewhere-

"My Sennen Rod has been acting up along with Ra and Osiris," a young male with gold blonde hair said noticing a gold rod in his hand and two cards glowing. The most noticeable feature of the boy is what looks to be the stone tablet from the prologue tattooed on his back. Another man, dressed in black and only has a ponytail for hair with a tattoo of hieroglyphics on his face walked up. "Rishid, you better have good reason for disturbing my meditations."

"News just came in from Pandora in Domino City Japan a few hours ago," Rishid said. "Kaiba Seto, Japan's national champion duelist just lost to a duelist name Motou Yugi and was landed into a mysterious coma. What is interesting is that Yugi was wearing what reporters claim is a golden pendent of Egyptian origin. Seeing the pictures myself, it is indeed the Sennen Puzzle." A loud clank could be heard as the blonde dropped his rod. "Malik?"

"So, the Pharaoh has returned," Malik said. "Perfect. Now I can have my revenge for the death of my father. It also seems that the Oracle was reincarnated as well."

"How could that be," Rishid said. "The Priest of the past was a male and before the duel started, the Pharaoh said he would reveal a secret of Seto's. That secret was that Seto was actually female. When the doctors were trying to figure out the cause, they found that Yugi was actually right. Seto was hiding her true gender her entire life."

"Which is why I said Oracle instead of Priest," Malik explained. "It is a genderless assignment and I've found that the Hieratic for Priest and Oracle are so similar that it is easy to mix up. We must plan for our revenge Rishid have the Ghouls ready." Rishid left the room as Malik laughter could be heard throughout the complex.

-To Be Continued-

In the Japanese version of Yu-Gi-Oh, each piece of Exodia is named Sealed and the body part that is depicted in the card while Exodia's head is Sealed Exodia. In the next chapter, Kaiba is trapped in the dark recesses of her soul gathering the pieces to her shattered heart. While doing so, she takes a trip through her memories and what made her like this.
