Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Fiction ❯ Altered Destinies ❯ Chapter 12 ( Chapter 12 )
This is my first attempt at a Yu-Gi-Oh fanfiction so please be kind in your reviews, if you review. I might not have many of the characters in character. On another note I do not own Yu-Gi-Oh and never will. I don't know whom it is that owns Yu-Gi-Oh and besides giving these unknown parties credit for making such a kickass manga/anime, I don't really care. Also, I don't have any money right now so, no one can benefit at all when it comes to suing me.
I came up with this idea when I read a couple of stories that I have read on fanfiction.net. One was recently taken off for some reason but it had been a good story. The other focused on the series if Yugi had been born a girl. I decided to take my shot at this kind of story but using Seto Kaiba. I will only mention this once so pay attention:
/Backslash/ - a conversation between a person and their spirit. i.e.: Yugi to Yami and vice versa.
//Double Backslash// - the person is thinking.
-Altered Destinies, Chapter 12-
"This is Ishikawa Seta of FujiTv news," a mid-sized female with black hair said sitting in a dark room with a tall brunette in jean shorts and a white T-Shirt of Aoshi. "Kaiba Seto, a person well respected for his gaming skills throughout all of Japan. Master of all forms of games and was once the number one gamer of all of Japan and was on the verge of becoming the King of Games." The brunette scowled at being reminded that she was no longer no. 1 in the country. "That was until a little over three months ago when not only did he lose, at his own game, to an unknown upstart gamer, but we discovered that there were many hidden secrets about this man of mystery. One was that he wasn't even a man. I believe the first question should be is when did you have a se-."
"Let me remind you that the only reason that I am even doing this interview is because Mokuba had it scheduled a week after I woke up from that coma and that he has me taking a break from work," Seto threatened the reporter knowing what the question was going to be. "I could walk out anytime. Now I never had a sex-change operation in the first place. I am a naturally born female. If you want proof, you can take a sample of my DNA to a DNA analyst, but I am almost certain that has happened."
"Okay," the reporter said. "Sorry if I had hit a personal note on that, but the suddenness that kind of news at the time makes it hard to believe. Now, how did this all start and why?"
"I'll answer the why part first," Seto said. "It all eventually came down to a situation of trust. As for the how, it should be more of a when instead. When my mom was about to have me, the gender scans had me at such a bad angel as to have the umbilical cord mixed up with something else. My parents were so excited about having a boy only to have their hopes dashed when they found out about the error. It took them about five years before they could have me and they were both raised in highly traditional families. You know, 'the proper heir is a boy' kind of view. They had problems with their reproductive systems, that it took them such a long time to have me, so the chances of having a second child were slim to none. So they did the next best thing in their minds and."
"Tried to pass you off as a boy. I didn't think Mr. Kaiba would do something like that."
"I should walk out right now for interrupting me and claiming that Gozaburo or his wife are my biological parents in the first place," the blue-eyed girl snarled. "You were right about my parents trying to pass me off as a boy, dress me up like one even. Early and often on I fought against their wishes, but by the time they had Mokuba, they already enrolled me in school as a male student and I had friends. So I couldn't have a normal life like I wanted. I kept on arguing with them for a couple more years, but then I was so popular at school, that revealing my true gender then would cause a lot of problems and many of my friends to turn against me. So I went with my parents plans, and they had promised me a chance to live a normal life as a girl if some one couldn't be fooled by the disguise."
"I am going to guess that Yugi somehow knew," the reporter asked. "I'm surprised that you would even admit to it in public."
"So am I on that," Kaiba said. "I asked him what clued him in on that and what he said to Mokuba was that I gave it away with the high scores at the arcade and one of the challenges at Death-T. When I inquired further after waking up, Mokuba reminded me that the only game in Japan I didn't have high score on was the Dancer Game. Stereotyping a male gamer as one in which he wouldn't bother with those type of games, yet one of the challenges, the one with the blocks dropping on them, followed a musical rhythm of one of the hardest challenges in that game. That meant I had played that game before in private and was an expert. It took their dance expert to find out that it was a dance challenge in the first place." The brunette stopped her speech to get a drink. "Also, Mokuba had kept on referring to me as his older sibling and not brother."
"I see," the black-haired reporter said. "Now you said that Mr. Kaiba isn't your real father. Then how did you become the heir to KaibaCorp?"
"Well around the time I was ten, Tousan and Kaasan were killed in an auto accident," the CEO said. "Witnesses claimed it was their fault and the survivors sued for what would be my inheritance and win. As a result, we were sent to an orphanage here because the one near our home was full. I've tried to keep in contact with my 'friends' and found out that since my family was no longer in charge of the manga/anime/game shop and that I could no longer get them a discount their, they pretended that I never even existed. That proved my parents right this whole time that my friends would turn their backs on me for the most trivial things. I decided to keep this secret hidden until someone could prove that they could see through this disguise. I kept the corsets that my parents got for me when I got older. I've always hated those, but let's get back on track. A few months at the orphanage I found out that Mr. Kaiba was going to visit the orphanage looking for some to take over in place of his late son. He discovered that I looked just like his son and wanted to adopt me." Seto took another sip of water and continued. "But like all the other couples, I refused to go without my otoutosan. He said that he could get the police to drag me out without him and I replied that not even the U.N. Military will be enough. I decided on a gamble. If he could beat me in chess, then he would get just me. If I win, he would have to adopt Mokuba as well."
"I don't believe you," Seta said. "You beat the six time World Chess Champion. No one can beat him."
"Well since Seto was a name that my parents gave me to pass me off as a boy and that I don't have a real name," Kaiba responded. "You can call me no one. It wasn't easy as it should have been. Three times I had him one move from checkmate only for him to sneak his way out with an illegal move that only I caught. He was determined not to adopt Mokuba, so I fought dirty as well, despite my aversion to cheating unless it was an anything goes game, too bad that Mokuba only caught my dirty moves and not Gozaburo's. I have every move of that chess match memorized as well. Gozaburo kept to his word after losing, but he made sure that I was about to pay the price for beating him. Turns out that he never even liked chess, just used it as a means to improve his public image and that he'd much rather use the money he donated to orphanages to make bombs to destroy them and if it hadn't been for his son's death, he would've. He had me go through an accelerated education process. From 5 in the morning to 3 the next morning with one-hour breaks between lessons, he had me studying. I always managed to keep up with my work but the long hours would exhaust me to where I would fall asleep. Few days after adopting me, I found out that to keep up with that fast pace was to him falling behind, so he had me study just as ruthlessly during the weekends which were initially my time off. At thirteen, I achieved a full master's degree and it was time for lessons in the real world. I found out then that he had stolen a couple of inventions of mine and that he claimed them as his own and sold them as weapons. They were the original prototypes for my dueling arenas."
"At the age of 14, you took over KaibaCorp and changed it into a gaming company," Ms. Ishikawa said. "Your stepfather died right after you took over. Do you know more the circumstances about that?"
"Yes," Seto answered calmly. "Growing tired of seeing my gaming inventions being turned into weapons to destroy. I planned with the board of directors to take over. I started buying out the company stock until I could get 51% of the total stock. Mr. Kaiba found out about my plans somehow and when I check for evidence of the snitch, it all pointed to Mokuba. My anger sent him straight to Gozaburo for comfort during the next six months until I turned 14. Gozaburo was certain that Mokuba would give him his two percent, but to prove his innocence, he gave it to me at the deadline. With the Board of Directors on my side and majority ownership of the company, KaibaCorp was now mine to control. What Gozaburo did then was shocking in a ways. He said that he had one more lesson for me now that I beat him in the game of business and that this is the fate a loser deserves. He threw himself out of the window to his death. Ever since that lost a little over three months, I haven't had a day where I haven't thought about what he made me into. I haven't had a night in these couple of weeks since being out of that coma where I haven't had a nightmares about the things that he has done." The tall brunette paused before continuing in a low voice. "I don't know what Yugi did to me exactly to have me re-experience, but he is on notice that I will finish what he started. He may have defeated Pegasus and saved my brother and company from a few traitors planning on selling my company to Pegasus, but that changes nothing. To think that beating me in one type of game awarded him the best gamer in Japan is foolish. I'll prove that Death-T was a just fluke eventually. As for now," the businesswoman stood up. "This interview is over."
A few days have passed since the interview and Kaiba has taken her first step in many months in the local arcade. She had found out the hard way that when she had fallen into that coma at Death-
T, her high scores had mysteriously disappeared. //I just don't get.// She thought. //How is it possible that all of the second place scores have moved up to being high scores. My records vanished without a trace. No evidence of a hacker erasing them, no proof of the people running the online score deleting them either. It is like my high scores never even existed in the first place. Yugi must know something about this but how can I prove it.// Seto noticed a new game. //So they've got a competitive version of the Tetris sphere game.// The girl went to that game and noticed that a high score was accomplished on the game a half an hour ago. "To bad it won't last for long Mr. BLE." Seto inserted the coin and started her mission of reclaiming all of her old high scores. The game mistress was making quick work of the new game. "That high score is a good as mine." In a few short seconds NEW CHALLENGER appeared. "Must be BLE and he saw that I was about to demolish his or her high score. These scores are too low any ways." Seto won in one minute. //Case in point.// She got another New Challenger message and she beat him even faster. She was challenged eight more times and she won each one just as fast. When she noticed the challenging has stopped she went back to her task of raising her new high score to impossible heights. She took notice of a Japanese man with black hair and a yellow jumpsuit in the reflection of the screen. //It is Bruce Lee wanabe. He's been trying for my mark at the fighting games for a long time. Must've thought about taking advantage of the new game. The default high scores are certainly low enough.//
"Hey bi-owwww," the man's threatening tone turned into a Michael Jackson holler during one of his songs and Seto interrupted him with a kick to his groin. The guy fell down on his stomach in tremendous pain and the brunette put a foot on his back to pin him into the ground. All the other kids saw the sight of the arcade bully on ground and laughed at the sight. Seto went back to her game with the guy unable to get back up because of her foot. In half an hour, she had finished all the possible levels and put a huge gap in the high score.
"I don't think that my usual initials of KAI will do for this mark," Seto muttered loud enough for the guy to hear. "How does SKA sound to you sir?"
"Peeeerrrrrrfeeeeeecccccctttttt," the brute said with his eyes widened at the revelation and as Seto inputs her initials. The other kids were shocked to see the CEO back on her feet after news said that she would never reawaken. "I should've known it was you. I've heard the rumors but never believed them."
"Get out of my sight," Seto walked over to a motorcycle racing game that she had beaten a long time ago. "This shall be a good start now that I've got the new game done with." Seto proceeded with starting the game. She chose the settings for her bike and went off. Her sense of balance allowed her to treat the toy-like motorcycle she was straddling like a real one. Finishing off three levels and setting new records for each, the kids watched as they all remember the stories of Kaiba Seto and the high scores that she had set that were erased somehow.
"Hey," one kid said as Seto started on the fourth track. "You would even have crushed your own high score by ten seconds." Seto took heed of the kid's words.
"So you've noticed," Kaiba said. //He's right. It seems as if I could actually see the proper timing of the turns. Hell, the games seem even more fun now. Could Yugi have had some intention of shattering my heart and free me from Gozaburo's dark influence. Only time will tell.// Seto finished of the track in record time once again. //A new record for each track and each one better than my old ones of KAI. I thought I did the best that I could back then and nothing could improve upon that.//
"It's been a long time Seto," a strange voice said as Kaiba was on the second lap of the final track.
"I don't think that I know you," Kaiba replied.
"I was there at Death-T," the guy said. "It was quite a match, but it could be better. I think that is the start." //Or restart.// "Of a good rivalry, possibly friendship."
"Don't expect the rivalry to last for much longer," Seto growled. //Just what does this guy think he is doing. I can't afford having a rival and a friendship with him as well. Rivals can't be friends. They have too much dislike for each other and friends hold their best back when taking on each other.//
"I was thinking about challenging you to Magic and Wizards," the guy said.
"Really," Seto laughed at the challenge as she beat the course. "There's only one person in Japan that can defeat me and you're not him."
"Then I guess it is a good thing that I am not from Japan to begin with."
Seto finished with putting her name to the high score list and turned around to meet the guy. Tanned-color skin, a turban and weird blue eyes wearing robes. "You're right. You definitely don't seem Japanese. I would say Arabic origin."
"Close, but Egyptian is the correct guess," the guy said. "I would give you my name but I have some people hunting for me and they can be anywhere."
//He does seem familiar, but where did I see him. It couldn't be Death-T. He'd stick out.// Images of when she walked down the hall at Pegasus' castle to challenge him flashed in her memory. Two paintings stuck out in the vision. //This guy knows Pegasus, how? Could he be as good of a duelist as the creator and yet no one knows about him.// "Okay, let's go to a nearby dueling arena."
"Actually," the stranger said. "I was thinking about a private duel that no one has to know about at midnight. Like I've said, I have some trouble makers trying to hunt me down and I don't want attract too much attention from them."
Seto looked around while giving her reply. "Alright, I'll meet you at KaibaLand at the arranged time. See you-," Seto turned to face the stranger to find him gone, "-there!?" She looked all over the arcade and couldn't find him. She had a feeling that she would meet with the strange guy as she said. Something on a television monitor, so Kaiba walked over to hear what was being said.
"This just in," the reporter said. "A fire has broken out at the Black Clown Game Shop thirty minutes ago. So far there are no serious injuries but one Motou Yugi was hospitalized from passing out. Ryouji Otogi said that his father, in a plot for revenge against Soguroku, tried to frame Yugi for shoplifting to force Yugi to face Otogi at Dice Monsters for something Otogi's father believes is Otogi's. Yugi won the match against the creator of the game and for some reason, Otogi's father became crazier with revenge and accidentally set the store on fire. Details at eleven."
Midnight arrived and Seto was now at KaibaLand heading towards a building. After entering a pass code to unlock the door, the brunette entered and turned the lights on to reveal a bunch of dueling arenas. "I see that you are ready," the man's voice said. Seto turned to see the guy right behind her. "Sorry if I startled you. You don't have to have to worry about me."
"I don't exactly trust a guy behind me for obvious reasons," Seto motioned to her body. The two went to an dueling arena and sat down shuffling their decks. They exchange decks and shuffle them before handing the decks back to each other.
"How about we play with the most basic of the advanced rules," the blue-eyed guy asked. "8000 Life Points, sacrifice for high powered monsters."
"Wow," Seto whistled. "Not many people play by that rule these days. They play the straight from the hand style that centers around the strongest normal summons rather than magic and trap cards." The two drew the first five cards of the game.
"I'll play first," the Egyptian said as he drew a card. "I summon Gravekeeper Infiltrator in defense mode. This card allows me to summon another Gravekeeper with 1500 or less attack points from my deck and I choose Gravekeeper Gunner in defense." Two monsters appeared on the field (3/1200/2000) and (4/1400/1200.)
//Gravekeeper cards, he has one of the newest released packs. This could be trouble.//
"I use my Gunner's ability to sacrifice a Gravekeeper on the field and do 700 life points to my opponent," Seto felt the blast hit her chest (RM: 8000 K: 7300.) "This is just the beginning of the terrors my deck can do." //Will you be able to overcome your weakness against cards you've never seen and prove to me that you can handle what fate has in store.//
-To Be Continued-
So, Seto Kaiba's third duel has finally arrived. As to who the stranger is, he is not so much a stranger. I know this duel doesn't happen in the Manga but I had to have something to set up Kaiba's meeting with Isis, which might be in the next chapter depending on how long this duel takes.
