Alternate Kingdom

Disclaimer: I don't own Yu-gi-oh! Any chance I can buy it for three pennies and a nickel?

Marik <stares happily at gold watch> Ooh sparkily.

Yami <sulks at being wrong> Marik is an idiot. And I still don't like you.

Yugi <stares in wonder at wall> Sugar is fun!

WeirdtheNorn <sighs in boredom> Do something interesting! <finds big poking stick>

Yugi <falls asleep>

Marik <breaks watch>

Yami <laughs at Marik> Fool!

WeirdtheNorn <pokes Yugi> Come on! Do something! That's it. I'm finding new characters now. Maybe I'll go bother Bakura, see what he does when I steal the millennium ring from him. Hum…

Yami <smiles at author> Can I please borrow you stick? I really don't hate you. Please?

WeirdtheNorn <smiles back> Here take it. I'm so glad you're over your sulking mood. You were kinda dull earlier.

Yami <scowls at author> Pharaohs are not dull. And no one touches my hikari except me. Prepare to suffer a penalty game of endless poking torment, mortal author!

WeirdtheNorn <holds Yugi in front of her> No way, I have a shield. Now put the stick down and no one will get hurt. I promise not to give your aibou any sugar anymore. <sighs> Ok we'll work out the hostage situation later. Right now enjoy the chapter and tell me what you think afterwards.

Chapter Two

Yugi twirled around a couple more times in front of his bathroom mirror. 'Perfect.' He thought, looking at his black leather pants, white button down shirt, and black boots. He had put his duel deck in a belt around his waist and a black choker around his neck, with matching bracelets. Pegasus would kill him if he saw the outfit.

"Hum, I think it's time to go find Uncle Max." Yugi said with a smirk. He ran out of the bathroom and started to leave the room only to stop when his eyes caught a glimpse of gold. Turning back, he grabbed the newly completed puzzle his grandpa had given him and put it around his neck. He felt a weird buzz of electricity and he could have sworn the puzzle glowed but then the feeling disappeared, and he ran down the hallways. It was early morning and no one seemed to be around. Yugi then heard a small noise that sounded like a dog whimpering. Uncle Max had never allowed animals in the castle. What would a dog be doing there? Heading for the sound he found himself going up a stairwell into one of the older towers. There was a guard standing in front of a door to one of the rooms and suddenly Yugi wanted nothing more then to see what was in that room. He silently pondered what would make the man leave, but was saved when the guard spoke into his earpiece and turned around, heading for the stairs. Yugi ducked quickly into a nearby room until the coast was clear, then he raced for the door and pulled it open, finding the sight of the sniffling sound.

"Who are you?" a small boy with long raven black hair demanded from the room. Yugi smiled and bounced into the room.

"Hi, I'm Yugi Motou-Pegasus. What's your name? Are you here for the tournament? Want to duel me now?"

The black-haired boy merely stared at him for a moment before shaking his head. "You're lying. Pegasus doesn't have any kids, big brother told me. And I'm not here for any tournament. Pegasus kidnapped me."

Yugi gasped. "That can't be true. Pegasus adopted me when my grandpa died. He would never do anything like that."

"Well maybe you don't know him as well as you think you do." The boy said. "I'm Mokuba Kaiba and he took me to take over my big brother's company."

"But Uncle Max has a company. Why would he try to take yours?" Yugi asked.

"Because he's crazy. He told some of his goons to kill my brother. But I'm sure big brother escaped. He's way smarter than any hired muscle." Mokuba bragged.

"But Uncle Max, he may be a little odd at times but he wouldn't give orders to kill anyone! He's still brokenhearted about Cecelia's death. Are you absolutely sure you heard this Mokuba?" Yugi asked, distraught at the thought of a reality where his uncle was a killer.

"Yeah I'm sorry Yugi but I was right there with him when he made the orders. Luckily big brother was out of his office at the time. But he still needs help. We both do. Will you help us?" Mokuba pleaded, hanging onto his only path to freedom in this crazy situation. Yugi stared at the small boy for a moment. He couldn't believe what Mokuba had said. On the other hand, Mokuba seemed like such a nice boy that Yugi couldn't imagine him lying.

"What would I have to do?" he said slowly. Mokuba's face lit up and he beamed up at Yugi.

"Thanks Yugi. I knew you were a true friend. All you have to do is get a message to my brother. I'm sure he's managed to stay away from Pegasus's goons. So all we need to do is tell him where I am and he'll come save us." Mokuba announced simply.

"Us?" Yugi repeated, "I don't need saving." Mokuba ignored him as he continued to work out the brilliant escape plan.

"Of course I doubt you can just call and tell him- I don't even know where Seto would be right now. No, the only sure way is if the message was personally delivered. Maybe you could ask your uncle if you can go shopping or to the arcade or something. And then when you get to Domino some how sneak away and go to my house-" Yugi cut him off quickly, already knowing this plan wasn't going to work.

"I never go to the mainland. I've lived on this island for eight years. Anything I need, Pegasus brings to me." Yugi explained. Mokuba stared at him in shock.

"No wonder you were so eager to find someone to play with. Well don't worry, soon as big brother comes we'll get you out of here. Now if you can't leave maybe we can give the message to someone else. The tournament you were taking about- we could use one of the duelists to deliver the message when they return home." Mokuba said, screwing up his face in concentration. "Let's see, we need to pick a duelist who would listen to you, help us out, and also one who is really bad at dueling so their chances of leaving early and going home are good. Hum, my brother used to talk about a boy in his class who he called a mediocre duelist, Joey Wheeler. I don't know if he'll help us but we'll have to try. Can you go and find Joey Wheeler and tell him all about this?"

Yugi found he couldn't refuse the boy who looked at him with such trust in his eyes, the first person to call him a friend. "Yes I'll do it." He said softly, reaching down to touch his grandpa's puzzle for reassurance. The smooth metal was warm to the touch and oddly comforting.

Mokuba squealed at the announcement and hugged Yugi tightly. "Thank you so much Yugi. Now it would probably be best if you didn't tell people exactly who you were- why don't you tell the other duelists Joey's your brother and you're looking for him to watch him duel? Now you better go. I don't want you stuck here too." Mokuba enthused, releasing Yugi and shoving him towards the door. Yugi nodded and opened the door to peek out into the corridor, making sure it was still empty.

"Yugi one more thing." Mokuba whispered. "When we get out of here I'd like to duel you. Big brother says I need more practice. But I've only ever played him before." Yugi turned around with a large smile spread across his face.

"I've had the same problem. Consider it a date. I think you and I are more alike than we could have guessed." Yugi whispered back, before turning again and heading back into the unknown, which up until an hour ago had been his safe and secure home.

Tbc…

Next chapter- Yugi and Pegasus have a little chat before the beginning of the tournament and then as the tournament begins Yugi finally meets a fellow duelist- Miss Mai Valentine.
