Kaiba sauntered down the dark hallway of his mansion. There was no hurry, for there is really no where to go tonight. He smoothly turned a corner and continued down the path towards his bother’s room. Stopping in front of the door, he raised an eyebrow when he heard some sort of noises coming out of the bedroom. Sounded like a television, which concerned him because at this time of night Mokuba should be sleeping. Shaking his head he opened the door and marched right in.
“Mokuba?” he closed the door behind him. Mokuba was sitting on his little beanie bag with his eyes glued to the TV. “Shouldn’t you be asleep by now?” Kaiba glanced at his wrist watch, “It’s almost 1:00 A.M.”
“What are you watching anyway?“ he asked ambling closer to the television. He stared at the screen and saw some very young couple sitting in the snow embracing one another, kissing, and whispering words like I love you to each other. The guy looked so happy as he held her in his arm and stroked her long black hair. This made him feel edgy, but at the same time it soothed him.
‘Wait! What am I doing?’ he thought and darted towards the table, grabbed the remote and turned off the plasma TV.
Mokuba head shot up, he glared at his brother, “Seto!” he whined. Kaiba glared back, “Why are you crying?” he asked as he saw his brother’s puffy eyes.
“Seto, that’s the soap opera I’ve been watching this month,” he sighed, “It’s about this one guy who was once a cold hearted man. He thought he would never fall in love-”
Kaiba closed his eyes as he listened to his brother rambled on about some rich guy, in the soap opera, that swore he’d never fall in love with anyone because he believed that love was a waste of time. Instead, he dictated his time to improve a company he owned and- ‘Wait a minute, this sounds familiar.’ Kaiba’s eyes shot up.
“-and a girl came into his life and changed everything. Sadly, something horrible happened to-” Mokuba’s word were abruptly cut off.
“Enough!” he hissed, “how long have you been watching this soap opera anyway?”
“I told you,” he stood up to put the beanie bag away in a nearby closet, “like about a month.”
Kaiba thought for a moment, “Why are you watching romantic soap opera? Especially in the middle of the night. Do you even know what kind of “stuff” they have in the middle of the night? What if those sick couple does something disgusting and blind you to death!” Kaiba smirked as he remembered last week when he turned on the TV some undressed girl popped up and advertised Club Desire. Feeling a bit horny he drove down to that specific club and had a hell of a night there. Then again, that was last week. ‘Advertisement these days.’ he thought.
Mokuba shook his head, “It’s rated PG-13 and I am 13!” he staggered to his bed and tucked himself in. Kaiba stood motionless in the middle of the room, “I don’t want you staying up this late to watch some soap opera.” he demanded.
“But-” looking into Kaiba’s cold blue eyes were enough to tell him that arguing would solve nothing. Instead, he sank lower into the blanket and reached his hand up to the light switch. “Good-night.” he sighed as the light went off.
The room was completely dark. “Good-night.” he whispered back. Kaiba stood there for a moment. Finally, he fumbled through the room to find the door. Kaiba stretched his arms out to make sure he wouldn’t bump into anything.
He quietly closed the door behind him and walked down the hallway to his own room.

After sitting on the edge of his cold empty bed and having flashback about Mokuba’s soap opera. He laid down and stared up at the ceiling picturing what it would be like to have someone laying here with him again. Not just some damn prostitute or his sectary or his everyday maid or- Gosh, so many-, but someone he could love and trust.
“NO! Love is a misuse of time. It causes feebleness to the heart.” he closed his eyes. ‘Not good for the health or for the soul.’
He growled as he remembered the last girl he fell in love with has left him for that dim-witted Joey. It blemished his heart. After the incident, Kaiba vowed he’d never fall in love again. Turning to his side he forced the old memory away from his mind and fell asleep.
