Chapter One
Face of an Angel
NOTE: /../ Seto's thoughts
~*~*~*~*~
Seto sat with his back against a tree, laptop open, and watched his little brother with his friends. They had come to the park to spend some time together only to run into Yugi and the others.
They were Mokuba's friends, not his. He still resented the fact that Yami had beaten him and he kept the others at a distance, spurning their attempts at friendship. He had his work and he had his brother. It was enough. Or it had been.
He looked to the couples scattered around the small, private clearing detached from the rest of the park by a stand of trees.
Yugi was sitting in Yami's lap, violet eyes shining as he talked excitedly to the spirit. Joey and Tristan were engaged in an argument that would no doubt turn in to a make out session. Bakura was sitting with his girlfriend, MJ, examining a rather wicked looking knife belonging to the girl.
Seto shivered involuntary. Those two really were the perfect couple. MJ was nice enough, but underneath she was pure evil. Seto often wondered if she was a yami who had managed to somehow get rid of her hikari. Her fascination with fire and sharp objects made her an excellent companion for the tomb robber.
Seto smiled inwardly as his gaze came to rest on his little brother. He was sitting at a picnic table with Ryou, staring down intently at the chessboard between them.
Mokuba had developed a special fondness for the quiet, withdrawn teen. They could often be found together over a chessboard or just hanging out together. Ryou seemed to understand the younger boy's loneliness and was always willing to listen.
Realizing the others were too involved to notice anything he was doing, Seto set down his computer and stared intently at Ryou.
He was attracted, he couldn't deny that. Long, snow white hair framed perfectly proportioned features and large dark brown eyes that you could drown in. Just thinking about it made Seto's temperature rise. He let his eyes skim over the lean body, taking in the flawless, creamy skin and smooth musculature.
His heart began to pound. It wasn't just, to Seto's mind, the incredible good looks, there was something more. Maybe it was the way he treated Mokuba. Then again, maybe not.
/I want him. Plain and simple. For whatever reason. Even if I have to make one up, lame as it is./
"Cheater!"
"I didn't cheat!"
"I saw you palm that rook Ryou!"
Seto snapped out of his daze. Mokuba was standing on the seat of the picnic table, mock-glaring at a smirking Ryou.
"Prove it." Ryou's grin widened as he shifted from his seat.
"Show me your hands."
Ryou lifted clenched hands. With a shout of laughter, he threw the hidden chess piece at the raven-haired boy and took off, heading straight for Seto.
Looking back over his shoulder at Mokuba's pursuit, he didn't even see the rock that tripped him. He flew through the air and landed in Seto's lap in an inelegant heap.
Seto grabbed the smaller boy by the shoulders as Ryou mumbled an apology.
Ryou lifted his head and blushed a deep crimson. Their lips were millimeters apart. Seto had the most overwhelming urge to ravage that mouth and plunder the sweetness within.
Suddenly, Ryou was pulled to his feet by MJ, whose glare matched that of the silver haired Yami at her side.
"What do you think you're doing?" Bakura demanded.
"Excuse me? Perhaps you didn't notice, but Ryou tripped over me." Seto responded coolly.
"MJ, you're hurting me." Ryou tried to shrug off her hands. "I'm fine Bakura, really."
Bakura turned to his hikari, pushing MJ off of him, slapping her. MJ hit him back and soon they were yelling at each other.
"Geeze!" Joey rolled his eyes. "Can't we get through the day without those to beating on each other?"
Tristan choked back a laugh.
Seto picked up his laptop and stood, straightening his shirt. "Come on Mokuba, it's time to go."
"But Seto!" Mokuba pouted.
"Don't give me that look. We have to get going." He looked pointedly at Bakura and MJ who had stopped fighting and were now lip locked, edging their way towards the bushes.
"I'm really sorry Seto." Ryou said quietly.
"Forget about it Ryou. Are you okay? You're not hurt?"
Ryou's face reddened again and he stared at his sneakers. "I'm fine."
"Glad to hear it." Seto smiled at him, to everyone's shock. "Let's go Mokuba."
"See you later guys! And Ryou, you owe me a rematch!"
~*~*~*~*~
Seto didn't remember driving home.
One minute he'd been telling Mokuba to buckle his seatbelt and the next he was home, sitting on the floor in front of a blazing fire, a half empty wine glass in his hand.
Sipping the blood red liquid, Seto stared into the flames.
He couldn't shake the memory of Ryou landing in his arms. His skin burned where their bodies had touched and he could still feel where the other's silken hair had brushed the backs of his hands.
The clock on the mantel struck one.
Seto drained his glass and stood. It was late and he had an important meeting tomorrow.
He slowly made his way to his room, knowing that any sleep he did get tonight would be inescapably tangled in masses of ivory colored hair.

Bakura: Oh no! No you don't!
YD: Back down Bakura, or I'll give you a one way ticket back to the Shadow Realm!
Ryou: Come on Bakura. I'm entitled to some fun too you know.
DD: Yeah! Leave him alone.
Yami: So the tomb robber's got a girlfriend.
Bakura: Okay, I'll give on that one. Where'd you come up with her?
DD: We based her on a friend of ours who was appalled that you were, well, you know..
YD: We think you'd be good together. That girl is pure yami.
Bakura: Hrmp! Whatever! *pulls Ryou into his lap*
Joey: This is getting fun! Think we can get more cookies out of this?
Tristan: I don't know. Ask Shadow-Fox.
Yugi: Please review. And we'll keep trying to answer them directly.
Ryou: No flames please.
