It was a dark and stormy night. The wind blew violently as the rain poured from the pitch black sky. A little girl of five sat up in her bed, tears pouring down her cheek. Her eyes were wide with fright as she hugged the sheets tightly to her. "Mommy," she cried.
The sound of the girl's crying woke up six year old Tristan Taylor, who had been sleeping right next to her. He slowly opened his eyes and blinked a couple of times before sitting up and yawning. "Charity?" he said as he turned his tired gaze over to his cousin, "You should be alseep. It's very late."
Charity wiped at her tears. "I had a bad dream," she said, trembling slightly from fear, "The dark angels..."
Tristan blinked in confusion. "What are you talking about?" he asked while rubbing his eyes, "What dark angels?"
Charity took a deep breath. "They came in the middle of the night for me," she whispered, her eyes wide with fear, "They came and took me away from mommy and daddy."
Tristan hugged Charity and smiled softly. "Don't worry," he said gently, "There are no such thing as dark angels. My mommy and daddy told me that all angels are good."
Charity looked into Tristan's brown eyes and then allowed a small smile to grace her features. "Promise?" she asked.
Tristan giggled a bit before nodding. He then stood and headed for the door. "I'll be back in a sec," he said, "I have to go to the bathroom."
Charity noddded and laid back down. She closed her eyes and let a small sigh escape her parted lips.
Tristan smiled and then quietly opened the bedroom door. He gulped slightly when he saw the pitch black hallway. ~Calm down,~ he told himself, ~There's nothing to be scared of. It's just the dark.~ He slowly walked out into the hallway and headed to the bathroom.

It had been ten minutes since Tristan had left to go to the bathroom. Charity was starting to get worried about her cousin. ~Tristan should have been back by now,~ she thought to herself, ~I sure hope he's alright.~
The wind started to pick up again and the rain started to pour down faster. Lightning streaked the sky, causing the bedroom to light up.
Charity whimpered and then stood. "I've got to go find Tristan," she said to herself quietly. She ran to the door and quickly opened it, but her energy soon died down once she was greeted by darkness. "Tristan?" she whispered, feeling tears come to her eyes once more.
Thunder boomed in the sky, causing Charity to shriek and run out into the hall. "TRISTAN!"she screamed and went running in the direstion of the stairs.
"Charity?!" came a voice from behind the frightened girl, "What are you doing out here? I thought you were asleep."
Charity turned around and saw that Tristan was standing right behind her. "Tristan, are you alright?" she asked as she grabbed her cousin's shoulders in a death grip.
Tristan blinked in confusion. "Of course I am," he said, detatching himself from Charity's grasp, "Why wouldn't I be?"
Charity looked down at the ground. "You were gone for too long," she said in a soft and quiet voice, "I just thought that..." She trailed off, not wanting to be scolded.
But she couldn't fool Tristan. He crossed his arms and sighed. "Look," he began, "I was just fine. I promise you, there's no such things as dark angels, or any other type of monster that you thought may have gotten me. We should go back to bed. Your mommy and daddy will be very mad if we..." He was cut off by a loud banging sound.
"What was that?" Charity asked, her eyes looking up at Tristan, "Did you make that sound?"
Tristan shook his head. "I thought it was you," he said as he pointed to her."
Charity's scared look suddenly turned to a glare. "You can stop playing around now," she said, "I'm not scared, you know."
"I promise that I didn't do that!" he said sharply, "I would never do something just to scare you. You know that!"
Charity gulped. She knew that her cousin was telling the truth. He had never once tried to purposely scare her. "But," she paused, her eyes widdening, "If it wasn't you and it wasn't me...then who was it?"
The banging sound became louder. It was coming from outside the front door. Something, or someone was trying to get in.
Tristan suddenly felt very brave. "Wait right here," he whispered to Charity, "I'm going to find out who or what is doing this!" He took off down the stairs.
Charity shivered slightly, an eerie feeling going up her spine. She couldn't just wait for Tristan to come back. "Tristan!" she cried, "Wait for me!" She quickly took off down the stairs as well.

The cold and bitter wind stung Tristan as he opened the door and walked outside. He shivered as her wrapped his arms around himself and looked around.
The rain was pouring down heavily, so it made it difficult to see. The fact that it was foggy out didn't help much either.
Charity walked up beside Tristan. "Did you see anything?" she asked as she snuggled up next to him to keep warm.
"No," answered Tristan as he shook his head, stepping out onto the porch, "I thought you were going to wait for me at the top of the stairs."
Charity shook her head. "I'm not scared," she said, not sure of who she was trying to assure more, "Why don't we split up? You can look in the front yard and I'll look in the back yard."
Tristan looked in confusion at Charity. "Are you sure?" he asked, "The back yard is pretty scary. I can go back there and you can look in the front..." He was cut off.
"I'll be alright," Charity said, smiling slightly, "If I need you, I'll scream, ok?" She didn't know why, but she felt like everything was going to alright.
Tristan looked hesitant, but nodded. "Ok," he said, "Be careful."
Charity nodded and headed for the back without saying another word. "I wonder why mommy and daddy haven't woken up yet," she said to herself, "They always wake up when I start crying..." She looked up at her parent's bedroom window, noticing that the light was still off. "They must be really tired," she said as she began to look around.
Tristan hadn't been joking when he said that the back yard was scarier than the front yard. At least there was some light to see in the front. Charity was starting to wish that she had taken Tristan up on his offer, but she was already back there, so there was no point in chickening out now.
She rounded the corner, not looking where she was going. "I miss my..." she was cut off when she bumped into something. "Tristan," she said as she turned to glare at her cousin, "What are you doing back here? I thought you were-" She gasped and backed up a bit, realizing that the person she'd bumped into was not Tristan.
A man stood before Charity, he features hidden by the pitch black darkness. He looked down at Charity and reached out a hand to her, taking a few steps forward.
Charity lost all sence of reasoning. She tried to run away, but slipped because of the slick, wet mud. "Trist-!" She was cut off by a hand going over her mouth. She struggled in an effort to get free, but it was in vain. She had been caught.

Tristan was done searching the front yard and was now waiting for Charity to return on the porch. "I hope Charity's ok," he said to himself, "She should have been back by now."
The wind was starting to die down a bit, but it was still very cold outside. Tristan's teeth were starting to chatter. "That's it!" he said as he stood, "I'll wait inside. Charity can come in when she's done searching." He tried turning the doorknob, but the door wouldn't open. ~The door wasn't locked!~ he thought to himself. "I guess I'll have to go to the back to find her myself," he grumbled to himself.
A flutter of cool breeze caused the hairs on Tristan's neck to stand up. He was very much scared now. "Charity," he trembled, "If that's you, please cut it out." He got no response. He suddenly became very angry and quickly whirled around, hoping to give his cousin the fright of her life. "QUIT-!" his eyes widdened when he realized that it wasn't Charity standing behind him.
The man shifted Charity in his arms and smirked. "Hello, Tristan," he said in a low and steady voice.
Tristan freaked. "AAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!" he cried as he ran back to the front door and began banging desperately, "Aunt Leigha, uncle Thomas, please let me in!"
The man made no move to go towards Tristan and instead began to walk off towards the woods. Something huge and black suddenly appeared from his back...wings! He jumped up into the sky, flying off into the pitch black night.
The front door opened a few seconds later. Charity's parents stood in the doorway with paniced looks on their faces. "Tristan?" said Leigha as she bent down and picked Tristan up, "What are you doing out here? Where's Charity?"
Tristan was trembling violently. "He...he got her," he whispered before breaking into a fit of sobs. He burried his head into her neck.
Leigha looked at Thomas and then back at Tristan. "Tristan," she said, trying to control herself, "Who got her?"
"Dark angel," Tristan responded between sobs.
"Oh my god," Leigha said as she felt tears sting her eyes.
Thomas growled slightly and looked up at the sky. "Leigha," he said, "Take Tristan back inside and get him changed. Well call the police after."
Leigha could barely keep her tears from falling, but she nodded and headed back inside.
Thomas remained outside for a few more minutes. "Charity...," he whispered, "I can't believe it. After all these years, he came back. Why?" He clenched his fists. "Don't worry, Charity," he said, "I promise that I will find you. Even if it costs me my life." He looked back one more time before walking back inside the house and closing the slamming the door behind him.
