Prisoners

 

Joey's eyes widened as he felt the searing pain of hot metal shoot through him. His body gave a jerk as the pain spread through him. Joey looked down at his stomach, gushing blood.

“Hay….den…”

Joey collapsed and his body rolled down the steps, staining the concrete a crimson red.

The blond's vision became blurry as vans opened up and people ran out carrying weapons.

The people along the street panicked and screamed, running away from the armed men.

Hayden looked down at the bleeding blond. “Good riddance. Let's go, boys!”

The swarm of armed men stepped over Joey's twitching body.

Hayden and the group ran up the steps and burst through the front door. Mr. Barnes opened fire in the lobby.

Hayden walked up to Alex sitting at the desk by the elevator. Alex stood up and reached for his gun.

“Don't try it, old man!” Hayden growled as he cocked his weapon.

Alex looked down at the phone and the emergency button on the desk.

Hayden cocked his weapon. “Do it, old man, and I'll kill you.”

Alex looked Hayden in the eye. “What is the meaning of this, Hayden?”

Hayden chuckled. “I'm here to see Mr. Kaiba. Let me in the elevator.”

Alex took a deep breath. “No.”

Hayden narrowed his eyes. “Foolish old man. You die now.”

Hayden pointed his weapon at Alex and pulled the trigger twice. Alex fell behind the desk. Hayden walked around the side of the desk and saw Alex laying on the ground, his body twitching and gasping for breath. Hayden pointed his revolver at Alex and pulled the trigger, emptying the rest of the round into the old man on the ground.

Alex laid still.

Hayden grinned. “One down…..many left to go.”

Maxine and Kendall ran out of the room and saw a multitude of men pointing guns at them. “MAXIE! DOWN!”

Kendall grabbed Maxine and pulled her into the room. “What the hell is going on out there?”

Hayden grinned. “My group, come with me!”

Several people from the crowd followed Hayden to the elevator.

“Luckily, I still remember my code.”

Hayden typed in his code and a sign flashed: ACCESS DENIED.

“Fuck! Eric, grab Alex's security pass. All we need to do is wave it and we can go up.”

Eric ran out of the elevator and grabbed Alex's pass from his hip. “Fucking thing's covered in blood now. Damn it.”

Eric returned to the elevator. Hayden waved the bloody card in front of the detector. “I still remember Daddy's code. He won't be using it anymore anyway.”

Hayden entered Joey's code and the elevator rose. “Perfect…..” The teen reloaded his weapon.

Robbie sat in front of Seto's desk taking notes. “Is that all you need from the investors?”

Seto nodded. “Yeah, how about that new prototype you've been working on?”

Robbie unrolled the schematics he mad been working on. “This is what we have so far. I think we should change the polarity on this, though. I think it's causing a lot of interference.”

“Did you tell the team?”

“Yeah, I did, but I don't think they take my word for it.”

Seto leaned back. “Well, I think you're right about the polarity. I'll have to have a stern talk with---.”

The door was kicked open and Hayden walked into the room with his gun pointed at Seto.

Eric ran into the room and laughed when he saw Robbie standing there with his cane. “Well, well, well….if it isn't Limpy!”

Robbie looked at the gun and stepped back. “Eric, what are you doing?”

Eric cocked his weapon. “What does it look like, brainiac?”

Seto stood up and his eyes widened at the red-haired teen before him. “Hayden? Hayden? Is that you?”

“Yeah, it's me. Miss me, Mr. Kaiba?”

Seto walked around the desk. “Is it really you?”

Hayden grabbed Seto's arm and threw him against the window overlooking the city. An ambulance siren arrived outside KaibaCorp. “Oh, good….The medics are here to pick up Daddy and Alex.”

Seto gasped. “JOEY?! ALEX?!”

Robbie and Seto turned around and looked down to the street. The people looked like tiny ants, so they weren't able to see anything in detail.

“The medics can try all they want…they won't bring them back from the grave.”

Eric laughed. “Two fags bite the dust!”

Seto turned angrily. “Alex wasn't gay!”

“No, but he was in my way,” Hayden replied.

Eric grinned. “Which one should we kill first? I vote we shoot Limpy first.”

Eric cocked his weapon.

“Not yet, Eric. You will get your time.”

Seto watched as Mokuba, Jeanie, Cassie, and the twins were brought into the office. Mokuba held Cassie in her arms.

Ivy and Lily ran to Seto and trembled in his arms.

The CEO held the twin girls and narrowed his eyes at Hayden. “How could you subject these kids to all this violence?”

Hayden pointed his weapon at Seto. “You are not in a position to tell me what I should and should not do, Mr. Kaiba!”

The group pushed Mokuba and Jeanie against the window. “Sit!”

Mokuba sat beside Seto and looked up at the men training revolvers and pistols at him and Cassie.

“Shhh, Cassie, girl. It's okay.”

Hayden looked at the row of hostages. “We're missing people! Who are we missing?”

Seto grinned. “Jaimen and Ceres and Donny are out flying. So if you were planning on getting control of KaibaCorp, you missed your opportunity to get to the rightful heir of KaibaCorp and its fortune.”

Hayden kicked Seto's desk. “Fucking great!”

The girls screamed and trembled in Seto and Mokuba's arms.

“Here I come to get control of KaibaCorp and waste all of you fags and here I find out that the true heir isn't even here? That's just fucking great!”

Ivy and Lily ran to their mother and trembled in her arms.

Robbie swallowed hard as Hayden waved the gun wildly.

Jason ran into the room. “The downstairs has been secured.”

“Good job,” Hayden grinned. “I wonder if they'll have fun scraping Daddy off the concrete.”

Mokuba turned to Seto. “What is he talking about?”

Hayden smiled proudly. “I walked up to daddy and shot him in the gut. He fell and rolled down the steps.”

“Hayden, you bastard!” Seto growled. “Joey loved you!”

“No, he didn't! You didn't love me either!”

“We took you in and gave you everything you always wanted! We gave you affection, put a roof over your head, food in your belly. We never treated you the way your uncle did.” Seto stopped. “Hayden….this is about your uncle, isn't it? And what he did to you when he kidnapped you. Isn't it?”

Hayden narrowed his eyes. “I don't want to speak about him! He was just a fucking liar like you!”

“We never lied to you, Hayden,” Seto said. “We took you in and tried to give you the life that you never had.”

Hayden's hand trembled as he held the gun. “I never had a life! My life was serving my uncle and his clients!”

“That is why he tried to make your life here as normal as possible!”

Hayden laughed. “Normal? What do you know about normal, Seto Kaiba? You are anything but normal.”

Eric laughed and kicked Robbie's bad leg. “Like Limpy here!”

Robbie winced and rubbed his leg. “I am normal!”

Eric kicked Robbie's leg again. “Do you want to argue with a bullet, Robbie-boy?”

Robbie swallowed hard and shook his head.

“Just as I thought….see who has the upper hand now, Limpy? I can make Aten a widower in a split second.”

Jason stood by Eric. “Wow…we caught Limpy, too!”

Eric smiled. “This is our lucky fucking day, huh?”

Mokuba held Cassie in his arms and looked at his brother. “Seto?”

“Everything's going to be okay, Mokuba.”

Hayden smiled down at Seto. “I can't wait until I have the pleasure of killing you myself.”

Donny's face covered in sweat as the plane neared the building. “JAIMEN, PULL UP! UP! UP!”

Jaimen laughed and pulled up on the handle. The plane's nose lifted and they flew upwards.

Ceres clapped his hands and spread his arms out. “I'm a pwane!”

Jaimen smiled and turned the plane around the building. “This is so cool!”

Donny clutched onto the door. “Jaimen, be careful!”

“Oh, come on, Don! You flew like this, too!”

Donny swallowed hard. “Let's get back to KaibaCorp.”

Donny picked up the radio. “Donny to Kendall….do we have clearance to land?”

Static came over the speaker.

“Kendall?”

Nothing.

Jaimen looked below. “Hey, there's ambulances in front of KaibaCorp! And policemen!”

Ceres pointed out the window. “Heli-poppers!”

Jaimen cried out as his plane was close to colliding with a helicopter. Jaimen pulled the plane out of the way with a trembling hand. “What is going on at KaibaCorp?”

“Kendall, do you read me?”

[Yes, Donald, I hear you.] a monotone voice came over the speaker.

“Kendall, are you okay?”

[Don, those damn roaches are back. I thought we were supposed to get this place sprayed.]

Donny's eyes widened. “Jaimen, don't land!”

“Why not?”

“That's a warning that something isn't right at KaibaCorp….Kendall…are we cleared for landing?”

[Don, we have other people waiting….]

“Okay, Kendall. Thanks.”

Donny replaced the microphone to the dashboard. “Something is wrong at KaibaCorp. Jaimen, we have to land at the Domino Airport. Fly to the airport.”

Jaimen swallowed hard. “Do you think something is really wrong?”

Donny nodded. “There may be. I've never seen that many ambulances outside of KaibaCorp.”

Ceres looked out the window. “I hope my mommy and daddy are otay.”

Jaimen flew to the nearest airport where the teen landed the plane. Donny rented a car and he turned on the radio as he drove.

On the radio, the announcer gave the latest news.

[This just in….The group calling themselves The Crusaders for Moral Decency have attacked KaibaCorp and are now holding Seto Kaiba hostage. There are reports that dozens…maybe hundreds of employees are still inside the building. We have heard gunshots from within and casualties have been reported. The siege began this morning at 11:00 am when a teen shot and wounded thirty six year old Joey Wheeler, Life Partner to Seto Kaiba. Mr. Wheeler was found shot in the abdomen. Domino Hospital has not released any further information on his condition.]

Jaimen gasped. “Oh no!”

[There is no word if Mr. Kaiba himself has been injured and it is feared that his brother and his family has also been taken hostage. We will give you more details as they become available.]

Ceres sniffled. “Is my daddy otay?”

“Your dad will be fine. There's only two people off today. Jaimen, I'm going to take you to Ryou's home. Ceres, too. You both have to be in a safe and secured location.”

“But my dad needs me!”

Donny shook his head. “Jaimen, trust me. I'm going to swing around and pick up Jay and Karl. Then I'm going to drop you and Ceres off at the Ishtars.”

Karl secured the knot to the railing. He checked each knot to make sure it would hold his victim in place. Karl crawled up Jay's body.

“You look so sexy, tied up like this,” Karl grinned as he ran his hand down his naked lover's side.

Jay bit his lip and moaned as Karl attacked his neck with a savage kiss. Jay tugged at his arms and legs which were fastened to the bed in knots. “We have one day off and this is how you want to celebrate it?”

Karl raised his head. “Aren't you enjoying yourself?”

“Well, yes, I am…but…”

“Well, there we go, then.”

Karl grinded himself against Jay. “Ready for me, baby?”

Jay arched his back and tugged on his restraints. “Please, Karl….”

Karl positioned himself at Jay's entrance when a knock sounded on the door.

“KARL! JAY! OPEN UP!”

Karl fell forward and groaned. “It's Donny…..”

Jay groaned. “Better go see what he wants.”

“KARL! JAYDEN!”

Karl crawled off the bed and grabbed his bathrobe. He wrapped it around himself and called out to Donny. “Okay, one moment!”

Karl opened the door and saw Donny standing there. “Don, what is it?”

“There's some major shit going down at KaibaCorp.”

“Donny, I'm not sure if this is the right time--..”

“Karl!” Jay called from upstairs. “These ropes are getting a little tight and are cutting off the circulation to my arms and legs!”

Donny sighed and shook his head. “Look, go up there, untie Jay, and get dressed.”

“What's the rush?”

“I don't know too many details yet, but the Crusaders invaded KaibaCorp. They're holding Seto and the family hostage.”

“Holy shit!”

“And apparently, Joey was shot and is at Domino Hospital. I haven't heard anything about his condition. Is today Asher's day off, too?”

Karl shrugged. “I don't know. I think he's at work with Kendall, Maxine, and Alex. I'm not sure.”

“KARL!”

“Coming, Jay! Give us a few minutes to get dressed.” Karl ran up the steps and untied his lover from the bed. “Those crazy Crusaders raided KaibaCorp and now they have Seto and the family held in there.”

Jay gasped. “Oh god! Those bastards!”

“Kendall, Maxine, and Alex are in there! Do you know if Asher was off today?”

“I think he's still in there.”

Karl cursed under his breath and threw Jay his clothes. “Never a dull moment, Jay.”
Jay sighed. “I'm inclined to agree.”

Karl tied his tie around his neck and walked over to his lover to tie Jay's. Jay handed Karl his gun and he hid his own under his suit jacket. “Let's go.”

Yami stood by KaibaCorp, looking up at the building. Ambulances and police cars littered the street. SWAT teams had been called in and were planning their positions.

Pedestrians were standing behind police barricades.

`It looks like I'm going to have some trouble getting inside to give my ultimatum to Seto.'

Yami turned to a policewoman holding back the crowd. “What's going on here?”

“The Crusaders took over KaibaCorp and took the Kaiba Family hostage.”

Yami grinned as he looked up at the helicopters circling the building.

`If I can prolong Seto Kaiba's suffering…..the more desperate he will become. In order to save the kids' lives, he'll have to end this before tensions escalate out of control. I can come to Seto's aid….if I offer to help him….he'll have to agree to help me.'

Yami narrowed his eyes. `If Aten and Aria come running to help Seto, my plan will be ruined. I need to prevent them from entering. Then I will have total control of the situation.'

Yami grinned and murmured.

 

“Gods of Egypt, Build a wall…

Keep out Yami blood and their offspring all.

No Immortal but I shall pass this line

Only I may pass this wall of mine.

 

The pharaoh listened to the reporters talking.

“Seto Kaiba and his assistant are held hostage. We can't confirm those who were taken.”

Yami grinned. `The kids, Bakura, and Marik will come to try to rescue their friends and they won't be able to even go near the building. I know they will be coming here…..I better go…change my wardrobe.'

Aten turned over in bed and opened an eye. He stretched as he woke up from his afternoon nap. He groaned as he sat up. “Those pills knock the wind out of me, for certain.”

Aten threw the blankets off of him and yawned. He opened the door and the grandmother turned her nose up at him as she passed him.

“Heathen devil,” she murmured under her breath as she passed him.

The Egyptian shrugged and staggered to the bathroom, too tired to react.

Miranda's voice called up the stairs. “ATEN!”

Aten opened the bathroom door and yawned. “What is it, mom?”

Miranda ran up the stairs, her voice quivering. Daniel came out of the bedroom.

“Miranda?”

“Aten! It's Robbie!”

Aten rubbed his hair. “What about him?”
”It's all over the news!”

Daniel walked up to her and put his hand on her shoulder. “Miranda, what is it?”

Miranda wrapped her arms around Daniel and cried. “Daniel, it's Robbie! KaibaCorp….has been….attacked!”

Aten gasped. “ROBBIE!”

Aten ran downstairs and grabbed the remote control for the television.

“Hey, you bastard, I'm watching that!” the grandmother cursed.

“Robbie's in trouble!”

Aten turned the channel to the news. Cameras were focused on the building.

The reporter held a microphone. [I'm standing here in front of KaibaCorp where the Crusaders for Moral Decency have taken Seto Kaiba and his family hostage. Sources say there may be as many as three hundred people still inside.]

“Oh no! Robbie!” Aten screamed, falling to his knees.

[Several casualties have been reported within the building. Several injuries have also been reported, including Joseph Wheeler-Kaiba, Seto's Kaiba's life partner. Domino Hospital has not yet released any information regarding his condition.]

Miranda and Daniel ran down the steps and stood by Aten. “My poor Robbie!”

[The Crusaders have not yet made any attempts to contact the media or the police to make demands for the release.]

Aten wiped his eyes free of tears.

[The Crusaders have fired at paramedics who attempted to enter the building and removed the dead and injured. More details will be revealed as this story unfolds.]

Aten stood up and rushed up the stairs as fast as he could. He threw on his purple shirt and a pair of jeans. He grabbed the Scepter of Ra. As he ran out his door, he clutched his chest. His chest felt tight and his heart raced with concern for Robbie.

`I have to take my medicine…in case Yami Aten comes out.'

Aten ran downstairs. “Where are you going, Heathen?” the grandmother asked.

Aten grabbed his pills and swallowed them quickly. “I'm going after my husband….Mom, I probably won't be home for dinner.”

Daniel grabbed his keys. “Aten, I'll drive you. You can't walk all the way to KaibaCorp.”

“Thank you, Dad.”

Miranda grabbed her purse. “I'm coming too!”

Vera and the grandmother sat back on the couch. “You go, Miranda-darling.”

“Yeah, my stories are on,” the grandmother said, changing the channel.

“Fine,” Miranda said as she ran out the door. “Robbie…..please be okay, baby.”

Aria sat on the couch with Kai by her side. She leaned disinterested on her hand as she watched the puppets on the television laugh and sing. `Sweet Isis….is this what I subjected my father to when I watched `Happy Bear Jamboree'? My dad deserves a medal.'

The happy puppet on the screen said, “Hey, boys and girls, let's talk about….our feelings.”

Aria rolled her eyes and groaned.

Kai's hazel eyes lit up happily and clapped.

Umi ran inside. White paint was covering Umi's hands from him painting the outside of their new houseboat.

“Aria, come outside!”

“What's wrong?”

Aria stood up. “Kai, be good while I'm out with daddy.”

Kai smiled and bounced up and down. “Yes, mommy!”

Aria walked outside and Kai turned up the radio.

[No word yet as to the condition of Seto Kaiba and his family inside of KaibaCorp. At approximately 10am, the Crusaders for Moral Decency raided KaibaCorp and took hundreds of people hostage, including Seto Kaiba and his family.]

Aria gasped. “WHAT THE HELL?!”

[Joseph Wheeler-Kaiba, Seto Kaiba's Life Partner, was critically wounded and is now at Domino Hospital in critical condition.]

“Not Uncle Puppy!”

[Police are attempting to negotiate with the Crusaders to allow them to transport the wounded out of the building. We have confirmed that the Kaiba Children are also being held hostage within KaibaCorp.]

Aria darted for the door.

“Aria?! Aria, where are you going?”

Aria ran into her room and grabbed her Millennium Trident. “I have to save Uncle Seto! I can't allow those creeps to hurt him or those kids!”

“Aria, wait! What if you go yami when you're holding that thing like you did at the party?”

Aria looked at the trident in her hand. When she went yami, she felt a twinge of pain in her belly. She was afraid that she may hurt her unborn child when she felt it. “I'll try not to….but I can't promise anything.”

“How will you get there?”

Aria kissed him on the cheek and jumped off of the boat. “LOVE YOU, UMI!”

The girl ran down the dock with the Millennium Trident in her hand.

Aten ran out of the car when Miranda stopped. He ran through the crowd, pushing people aside. “ROBBIE!”

Aten pushed through the crowd and Kadin turned.

“Hey, Aten! This is something else,huh?”

“Robbie is in there!”

“Who?”

“My husband!” Aten ran up to the guard. “Please let me through! My husband is in there!”

“Sir, you can't cross the line!”

Aten growled and leapt over the barricade. “My husband needs me!”

Aten ran for the stairs and a barrier made him bounce back. “What the---? I can't go in!”

Aten watched the policemen walk down the steps. “Don't they feel it?”

Two policemen grabbed his arms. “Sir, get behind the barricade!”

Aten struggled with the men. “My husband is in there! Robbie!”

Aten saw Aria jump over the barrier and run for the steps. She, too, collided with the barrier and was thrown back.

“What the--?”

Two guards picked Aria up and pulled her towards the barricase.

“Uncle Seto is in there!”

Kadin followed Aten to Aria.

Aten helped Aria off the ground. “Aria, what's going on? Why can't we get near KaibaCorp?”

Aria shook her head. “I don't know.”

Glenn stood behind the cash register as Yugi grabbed his sweater and ran out the door.

 

Yugi's POV

Joey! Oh no! God, please be okay!

I ran to the car and turned the ignition with shaky hands.

All I could think of was Joey hurt.

He's my best friend! We've always hung out and have been close since High School.

Now he was dying!

Pulling away from the shop, I raced towards the hospital.

Joey….be okay. Hold on. I'm on my way.

I arrived at the hospital and ran past the security guard.

“Hey, you! Stop!”

There is no stopping!

Joey's dying!

I ran to the emergency department and to the desk.

“I'm here to see Joey Wheeler! Is he out yet? What is his condition? Is he alive? Is he breathing? Is he hurt bad? Please tell me!”

The woman at the counter blinked at the barrage of questions. “He's still in surgery.”

“Yeah, I know, but is he alive?”

“Mr. Wheeler is still in surgery. Have a seat..Mr.----.What's your name?”

“Yugi Motou.”

“Okay, Mr. Motou. We'll let you know Mr. Wheeler's condition when the time comes.”

I waited in the Emergency Room for hours.

I fell asleep in the chair when Zira woke me up.

Zira held out his hand and in his palm was Joey's ring…..covered in Joey's blood. “Yugi……”
