Long Journey
Robbie limped quickly towards his home. He reached into his pocket and pulled out the cell phone. He pressed speed dial to
Aten's studio and held it to his ear.
The phone rang…..
……..
Rang…..
………
Rang….
“Aten, pick up the phone! I know you're there.”
Rang…..
Robbie bit his lip. “Maybe Aten's taking a nap…..”
The phone continued to ring.
“Hello…”
“Hello, Aten?! Are you okay?”
“I cannot come to the phone right now,” Aten's answering machine responded. “But if you leave your name and number,
along with a -----.”
Robbie closed his cell phone. `Aten's not responding. Maybe he's helping mom around the house.'
Robbie rushed down the block, breathing heavily as his cane clicked against the pavement quickly.
The teen rushed down the block and limped towards his back yard to Aten's art studio.
He broke through the door with his shoulder and saw Kadin on top of Aten tearing Aten's shirt open.
“KADIN! MOM! DAD!” Robbie screamed in alarm as he rushed to his fallen husband's side.
Kadin stood up and grinned. “Robbie! What a surprise!”
Robbie raised his cane and slammed it against Kadin's arms. “Get off of him! Leave him alone!”
Kadin stepped back and narrowed his eyes. “Step away from him….now.”
Robbie leaned over and pressed his ear against Aten's chest where a faint beating sound was heard. Robbie looked at Aten's
blue lips and began to shake. “Aten? Aten, can you hear me?”
Kadin grabbed Robbie by the back of the collar and pulled him off of Aten. “I SAID GET BACK!”
Robbie growled and whacked his cane against his attacker's head. “MOM! DAD!”
His assailant picked him up and wrapped his arm around Robbie's neck from behind, choking him.
“You're…..not……Kadin.. You are….an…imposter!”
Kadin slid his arm up underneath Robbie's jaw and held a sharp object against the base of Robbie's neck. “What makes you
think that?”
Robbie narrowed his eyes. “Because the real Kadin is dead! He was murdered!”
“You're too smart for your own good. Now you will have to die.”
Robbie slammed his good foot against Kadin's foot, making his assailant let out a scream. He thrust his head back, hitting
Kadin in the forehead with the back of his skull.
His assailant staggered back and Robbie elbowed the other teen in the jaw.
Kadin and Robbie growled at each other. Robbie positioned himself in front of Aten.
“What were you going to do with Aten?”
“Nothing different than what I did to him before.”
“What do you mean?”
The teen laughed. “Use him as my own personal fuck toy. You got in my way. Care to join me?”
“I would never use Aten like that!”
“I doubt that, Robert.”
Robbie raised an eyebrow. “You never called me by my name before!”
“There's no reason for me to hide my identity anymore. You know who I am…..”
Robbie watched Kadin's skin fall away in strips until Yami was standing before him. “YAMI!”
“Good job, Robert. I didn't think you would discover my true identity.”
“Tell me what you did to my husband!”
Yami grinned. “Everything I could possibly do to destroy his spirit.”
“Why?”
“Because Aten will not dare fight against me if I break his spirit.”
Robbie narrowed his eyes. “Aten is not a toy that you can use for your amusement! He is a real person with real feelings and
I love him!”
Yami grinned. “Did Aten tell you that he slept with me?”
“He what?!”
“I slept with him. Oh, but he didn't know it was me. He still thinks that I am Kadin.”
Robbie narrowed his eyes and gripped his cane tightly. “You killed that kid…..didn't you?”
“I needed an identity. There was no other way. Besides, I'm certain his horrible death earned him entry into the Afterlife.”
“You killed him for your own pleasure! You hurt Aten to satisfy your own pleasure!”
Yami advanced towards Robbie. “He liked it. I had him bent over the couch…..fucking his brains out.”
“Stop it!”
“I stuck it in him, Robbie.”
Robbie's face grew red in fury. “Stop it! Get out of my house!”
Yami grinned. “I'm afraid I can't do that. I will finish you and Aten off at once.”
Robbie swallowed hard. “I won't let you hurt Aten.”
Aten blinked his eyes and turned them towards Robbie. Robbie was standing in front of him and gripping his cane in his hand.
“What are you going to do to stop me? You think you are stronger than me?”
Robbie looked around him and saw a purple haze fill the studio. Robbie swallowed hard when he saw an army of monsters
appear behind Yami, holding their weapons high.
Robbie looked behind him.
No monsters were behind him.
“You stand alone, Robbie.”
“Your monsters follow you? Do you know that you are no better than them?”
“What are you talking about?”
Robbie growled. “You are a monster, too! You hurt Aten and you hurt that innocent kid! You are the monster here, Yami! Not
those mindless drones behind you! They're following you because they have to!”
“SILENCE!” Yami snapped. “Time to meet your deaths, both of you!”
Robbie looked down to Aten on the ground and saw his husband slightly more responsive. His eyes stared at Yami in fear.
Yami raised his hand slowly and Robbie saw Yami's monsters ready their weapons. The teen dropped to his knees and took
Aten in his arms.
“Don't look,” Robbie trembled and closed his eyes as he held Aten close to his body.
Aten saw Yami's hand begin to drop and he clutched onto Robbie. “Robbie….”
Robbie and Aten held each other tightly.
Both boys shuddered when they heard a heard a loud bang. Robbie looked up and saw The Decayed Commander and the
Machine King standing in front of him.
“You will not harm our master,” the zombie threatened as he pulled out his sword.
Yami laughed. “My monsters against two of yours? I'm game! ATTACK!”
A loud roar and a series of blasts from above made Yami's monsters scatter. Robbie winced as a nearby blast nearly touched his arm. The flesh turned red from the heat.
Yami looked up and saw the Nightmare Dragon flying down. Aria screeched. “ROBBIE, ATEN, GET OUT OF THE WAY!”
Robbie grabbed his cane and pulled Aten out of the way. A series of blasts hit the ground where Aten and Robbie were laying.
When the smoke cleared, Aria and the Dragon landed. The dragon helped Aria down to the ground.
Yami was no where to be found.
Aria ran to Aten. “Brother, are you okay?”
Aten gasped for breath and held his chest. “Can't….breathe.”
Aria watched the purple haze disappear and the art studio came back into view.
Robbie winced at his arm. “Aria, can you help me get Aten upstairs?”
Aria nodded and helped Aten to his feet. She threw Aten's left arm around her shoulders and Robbie took his right arm.
Aria opened the door and saw Miranda and Daniel sitting on the couch as if nothing was happening. “Did you hear what was
going on in there?” she asked him.
Miranda shook her head. “No, we didn't hear anything that was going on.”
“Son, what happened to your arm?” Daniel asked.
“Long story, tell you later,” Robbie said as they approached the stairs.
Robbie and Aten climbed the stairs with the help of Aria. They put Aten on Robbie's bed and he held his chest.
“Medicine…..”
Aria ran from the room and down the steps.
“Aten….” Robbie whispered as he stroked Aten's white and blond hair gently.
Aten breathed heavily, struggling and wheezing.
“It's okay, Aten. Deep breath.”
Aten clutched onto Robbie's hand tightly as Aria returned with a pill and a glass of water. “Here, Aten.”
Aten took the pill into his mouth and sipped the water.
“How did you get here so fast?”
Aria rubbed Aten's arm. “I could feel something covering my mouth and I knew something was wrong. Aten came to me
when I needed him. I'm repaying the favor.”
Aten coughed and dropped the glass on the carpet. “Sorry….”
Robbie rubbed Aten's hair. “Don't worry about it.”
Aria watched as her brother buried his face in Robbie's chest. “I'll give you two a moment alone. But I'm sticking around to
make sure that everything is okay.”
“Thank you, Aria.”
Aria nodded and closed the door behind her as she left.
Aten breathed heavily and quivered. “Robbie…”
Robbie held Aten against him and buried his face in Aten's hair. “I'm not angry, Aten…..”
“Angry? About what?”
“Yami….he told me everything.”
“About? What was he doing here?”
Robbie pulled back and stroked Aten's cheek. “Aten……Yami was Kadin.”
Aten blinked, as if he couldn't understand what Robbie had said. “Wh—What?”
“Kadin was Yami, Aten.”
Aten's face grew pale. “Oh gods….no…tell me you're lying.”
Robbie shook his head. “No, Aten. I'm not lying.”
Aten bit his lip and covered his eyes with his hand. “This can't be happening!”
Robbie nodded. “It's true, Aten.”
The Egyptian looked up at his husband with teary eyes. “Does that mean….?”
“Yami told me everything that you….supposedly…did with Kadin.”
Aten covered his eyes and let out a sob. “That means….”
The Egyptian turned over on his side and faced away from Robbie. “I guess that means……that you…you know what he did.”
Robbie sat on the bed behind Aten. “Yes….Yami told me that you slept with him.”
Aten covered his eyes and sobbed. “I'm sorry….you probably hate me now.”
Robbie shook his head. “I don't hate you. But….why did you do it?”
Aten sat up and wrapped his arms around himself. “I……He reached out to me. I thought he was concerned about me. I was
so upset while you were in KaibaCorp! I was afraid I was never going to see you again.”
The teen looked over his shoulder and saw Aten's back to him. Aten was slow to trust anyone with his feelings. It seemed
odd that he would have trusted Kadin or Yami or whoever.
Robbie stood up and walked around to face Aten. He tipped Aten's face up to look at him. “We've been friends for a long
time, Aten. This does make me angry, but…..I promised to be faithful to you….and I won't go back on my promise. I forgive
you, though.”
Aten lowered his head. “How can you? I betrayed you.”
Robbie wrapped his arms around Aten. “I'm more worried that he betrayed your trust.”
“I was weak, Robbie. I'm sorry.”
Robbie hugged Aten tightly. “I'm sorry he hurt you.”
The Egyptian hugged back tightly. `Does he really forgive me? How can he?'
Aten whimpered into the hug and kissed Robbie's neck. “Robbie….he….I didn't sleep with Yami…willingly.”
Robbie pulled back from Aten, but kept a hand on his husband's shoulders. “What?”
“I didn't sleep with him willingly. He forced me to do it. He made me touch him, even when I pulled back. He touched me,
even though I tried to fight him.” Aten sobbed. “I couldn't fight him back either time.”
“Why did you go back to him, even if he made you do what he wanted? Why did you go back even after he forced himself
upon you?”
Aten sniffled. “I don't know why.”
Robbie sat beside Aten and held him. “Anyone who forces you to do anything you don't want to, is not your friend, Aten.
Friends don't force themselves on their other friends. Have you ever seen me force you into sex or anything else since
you've known me?”
“No….”
“What about those times you freeze? Do I ever harass you because of it?”
“No, Robbie.”
Robbie took a deep breath and kissed Aten's cheek. “I just wish I would have known earlier.”
The Egyptian clung to his husband and trembled.
Aria knocked on the door and peeked her head in shyly. “Are you okay, Aten?”
Aten pulled back from Robbie and rubbed his eyes. “Yes. Aria….thank you for coming…to help me.”
Aria walked up to her brother and kissed him on the cheek. “You know what, Aten…I do need you….to watch my back. I'm
there to watch yours….Baby Brother.”
“I'm only your baby brother by only a few minutes.”
The girl hugged her brother. “I'm just glad you're safe.”
Aten smiled back. “Thank you….Aria.”
“No problem. Oh. I wanted to let you guys know. Uncle Seto called me. He said Hayden's funeral is this Saturday.”
Robbie nodded. “Okay. We'll let mom and dad know. Was it at the same church where Alex's funeral was?”
Aria nodded. “Yeah…..and then we're going to the Kaiba Crypt. Seto said he's not having a reception afterwards. He just
wants to go home.”
“I don't blame him,”
Robbie nodded. “It's gonna be hard on everyone. Tell Seto that we will be there, Aria.”
Aria nodded. “I will. I have to go. I'll see you guys later.”
Aten hugged Aria tightly. “Thank you, Aria….”
“Anytime! Bye, guys!”
Aten looked at Robbie's arm. “We better take care of that.”
“It won't take much,” Robbie said hugging his husband. “I'll be right back.”
Robbie left the room and Aten buried his face in his hands.
`How could I have been so blind?'
**********************************
Malik shook the empty cereal box. He threw it away in the trash. He grabbed another cereal box and shook it.
Nothing.
He opened the next cabinet and raised an eyebrow. “All we have left is pickled beets? GROSS! Did you find anything,
Bakura?”
Bakura pulled a can out from the cabinet under the sink. “Anchovies? Who bought these?”
Malik wrinkled his nose. “Nobody here likes Anchovies or Pickled Beets. Who the hell bought these?”
“Maybe Ryou did. Maybe he bought these under Yami's control. Sick bastard. Buying pickled beets and anchovies.”
Malik opened up the refrigerator.
“Anything edible?”
Malik removed a pack of carrots. “These look dead.”
“Throw them out then. I can't believe we don't have any food in here!”
Marik entered the kitchen. “I'm starving and am about to go cannibal on all of your asses. What do we have?”
“Pickled beets and anchovies.”
Marik blinked. “……………..”
“That's all we got, yami. Sorry.”
“You can make something out of that.”
Malik shook his head. “I'm not a miracle worker. Nothing I can do can make these two taste good together.”
Marik sat at the kitchen table and ran his fingers through his hair. “We're running out of food…..Ryou needs his heart
medication. He has to see Dr. Zira next week….”
Bakura sat beside the other yami. “Do you want me to go reason with your boss?”
“There's no reasoning with him, Itemri.”
“Do you want my thugs to reason with him?”
Marik laughed. “Why send your thugs when my Mafia can make my old boss wear cement shoes at the bottom of the Domino
River?”
Bakura snickered. “That depends. Do you want him dead or just shaken up a bit?”
Marik shook his head. “No. He's a decent guy. He's been pretty decent to me. He let me go to the hospital when Aten had
his heart attack.”
“That doesn't make him a saint, you know.”
“No, but none of my previous employers would have done that. None of my previous employers would have let me leave and see my boy in the hospital.”
Ryou walked into the kitchen with a towel wrapped around his naked body. “Do we still have water?”
Malik tried the faucet.
No water.
“Doesn't appear so.” Malik opened the door to the refrigerator. “We still have electricity, though. That's a good thing.”
“You can always whore yourself out, Ishtar,” Bakura said, patting the other yami on the back.
Marik sighed. “I need to find another job, but I can't find anything that I'm qualified to do. I can't work as a doctor or a male
nurse….I know nothing about money and modern investments.” The yami raised his head. “Money…..THAT'S IT!”
Marik bolted from his chair and grabbed his coat and keys. “I'm bringing home a pizza!”
Malik, Ryou, and Bakura stood in the doorway to the kitchen.
“With what? Your looks? You need money for that!” Malik called to him.
Marik turned to his husband. “I'll take care of everything!”
The yami bolted out of the room. A moment later, the sound of screeching tires backed out of the driveway.
Bakura grabbed his coat. “If we're having pizza, we'll need soda.”
Ryou wrapped the towel around himself tighter. “Yami, we have no money for soda.”
Bakura grinned at his husband. “Having no money for food never stopped me before, Ryou.”
Before Ryou could protest, Bakura bolted from the house.
Ryou sighed. “Well…..I guess I should go upstairs and get dressed, seeing as we have no water.”
Malik giggled and pressed himself against Ryou's back. “What's the rush? Our yamis are gone.”
Malik wrapped his arms around Ryou from behind and held the albino man against him. A series of kisses to the side of
Ryou's neck made the other man moan and lean against him.
Ryou turned his head and licked Malik's earlobe.
The Egyptian slid his hands up and slowly pulled down the towel wrapped around Ryou's body.
“Beautiful,” Malik moaned as his hands explored Ryou's chest and stomach.
“While the yamis are away, the hikaris will play,” Ryou giggled as he allowed Malik to drift his hand further down…….
******************************
Marik drove up to the tall building and looked up. “I may not know about money…but here's a man who can teach me.”
Marik turned off the ignition, jumped out of the car, slammed the door, and ran up the steps.
People were working on repairing the shattered glass from the siege on KaibaCorp. Inside, people were scrubbing the floors
free of debris and blood.
Mokuba saw the yami enter. “Marik? What are you doing here?”
“I came to see your brother. Is he in?”
Mokuba nodded. “He's upstairs……but he's not in the best of moods right now.”
“I can handle moneybags. Thanks, Chibi Seto.”
Marik ran for the elevator and Mokuba called after him.
“Marik! Come here!”
“What?”
Mokuba ran up to Marik and handed him a piece of paper. “Here's your new access code. We had to change everyone's
codes.”
“Thanks, Mokuba,” he said as he looked at the paper.
“Don't forget your code and destroy that paper.”
“I will. Thanks,” He punched his access code into the elevator and rode it to the top.
When he stepped out of the elevator, Jeanie was holding Cassie in her arms. “Hi, Marik.”
“How's the chibi girl?”
Jeanie sighed. “Nightmares. I'm having a hard time getting any of my girls to sleep.”
Marik walked up to Jeanie and took Cassie in his arms. “Your mother will protect you, little one. There is no need to fear.”
Marik kissed Cassie and handed her back to Jeanie. “I have to see Seto.”
The yami rushed to Seto's office. “Seto?” he asked as he knocked on the door.
“Come in.”
Marik entered the office and found Seto at his desk, his fingers running through his brown hair. “You look like shit.”
“Nice to see you, too.”
“I came for some advice.”
“I need some advice, too.”
“You? Need advice?”
Seto nodded. “What am I going to do? I lost so many employees…it's going to cost a lot of money to rebuild this place and replenish my staff.”
Marik sat in front of Seto's desk. “So you need staff?”
Seto nodded. “I do.”
“I need a job.”
Seto looked up. “You're hired.”
Marik grinned. “See? That wasn't that hard.”
“I need someone to help me hire more people….and you can double in the Public Relations Department.”
Marik grinned. “I can dig deep into people's backgrounds. I'm good at research….and I'll be a big advantage to you.”
Seto nodded. “I trust you to pick the right people.”
“See? I solved both of our problems.”
Seto sat back. “There's more problems I have to face….Hayden's funeral is Saturday….at the same church where I married
Joey.”
“Is he awake?”
Seto stood up and walked toward the wall of glass. “Yes….he's coming to the funeral…even if he has to be in a wheelchair.
Joey should be there.”
“Have you told him?”
“I don't know how.”
Marik sighed. “I know you can…it's going to be tough.”
Seto sighed. “It's going to be hard on all of us. Joey's going to need some physical therapy before he can leave the
hospital….he will be able to come home the night of the funeral. We have a long road ahead of us.”
Marik nodded. “We'll get through it together as a family, moneybags.”
Seto lowered his head. “Family……..”
The yami stepped beside Seto and put his arm around Seto's shoulders. “Family. In speaking of family, Can you lend me
twenty bucks, dad?”
Seto raised an eyebrow. “Good job at ruining a tender moment.”
“Once again…..that's my specialty.”
Seto handed Marik a twenty dollar bill. “Here. Consider that your `sign-on bonus.'”
Marik grinned and pat Seto's back. “Thanks, Kaiba!”
The yami bolted from Seto's office.
The CEO kept his eye on the street below. “Family……….” The CEO watched Marik speed off in his car. “How am I going to tell
Joey about Hayden's death?”
