Aurora of Atlantis

Chapter 1: The Return

All around the Mutou's farm a cheerful air seemed to fill the atmosphere. Flowers' blooms covered the lofty hills, the clouds were fluffier than they ever had been, and the fields were growing productively. A skinny boy laid in the shade of an oak tree. He wore a tan tunic and black trousers, along with thick leather boots on his feet. His hair was anything but normal, spiked black locks, with light blonde bangs that fell on his cheeks gently.

He bolted upright as he heard his mother call his name.

"Yugi, your friend is here!" his mother called in her soft voice.

Yugi stretched his arms and yawned. "I'm coming," he said heading towards the house. His height was of maybe '5"6 and he looked to be of maybe 15 winters old.

His mother was standing by the door, a cheerful air around her. Yugi had not once seen her angry. She smiled at him. "She's waiting for you in the kitchen," she said in a sweet motherly way.

Yugi nodded, walking inside. He made his way past the study and came to the kitchen. A young girl sat in a chair by the fireplace wearing a long emerald dress. Long red hair fell down her back. She turned around hearing Yugi come in. "Oh hi," she said. She had the finest pale skin and the pinkest cheeks. Her sea-green eyes were full of life, looking at Yugi with the highest of kindness.

Yugi smiled at her, sitting down in a nearby chair. "Hi Aurora, how-I though you said you had to return home-How come you're back?" he said curiously.

Aurora frowned. "My home isn't in such a great shape right now," she said quietly. "A war has gone out on Atlantis."
Yugi was saddened. "You mean to say that the Torrents have attacked again?" he said.

Aurora nodded slowly. "They are after my father's throne again," she said.

Yugi leaned over and gave her a hug. "I'm sure it will all be okay," he said gently.

"I hope," spoke Aurora, her voice shaking.

Yugi realized she was crying as he held her in his arms.

Aurora laid her head on his shoulder, trying to forget the horror that was overcoming her kingdom, but the grief would not pass.

Yugi rubbed her back gently and remembered when they first met.

***Flashback***

Yugi sat on a large rock, a fishing pole in his hand. He yawned absentmindly, his thoughts drifting to everything besides what he was doing at the point. His eyes flashed across the ocean, hearing a distinct splash. Yugi caught a glimpse of a green fin before it went back below the surface. That's odd he thought, shaking his head a little.

As soon as Yugi had reassured himself that he just needed to get more sleep, a head of red hair broke the surface of the water. Yugi's eyes widened. His fishing pole slid out of his hand.

The girl's mouth dropped. She froze in her place.

The two sat staring at each other for a few minutes.

The girl finally let out a small squeak. "I-got to go-goodbye-" she said quickly turning around to dive back under.

"No-wait!" said Yugi standing up.

She turned back around quietly; a look of horror was still on her face. "Yes?" she said shaking a little.

"How did you get here? Are you a-mermaid?" said Yugi walking towards the wave-break.

"I can't tell you-I have to go. Please let me go," she said.

Yugi crossed his arms. "You are a mermaid," he said. "Why are you so scared?"
The red head looked at him for a moment. "I'm not supposed to be here..."
Yugi smiled. "I'm not going to tell anyone about you," he said.

"You promise?" she asked.

"Promise."
The mermaid let out a sigh of relief, coming up closer to the shore. She pulled herself up on a rock. She had a long glittering green tail and had webbed fingers. She wore a seashell type-top thing.

Yugi watched with amazement as her fin disappeared and shifted into two legs. She was now wearing an emerald green dress. "Hello, my name is Aurora," she said looking back over at him with a smile.
