Jounouchi worked himself up from the basement of KaibaCorp. He was originally hired to be a janitor. But that quickly changed. Mokuba saw Jounouchi playing one of KaibaCorp's newest games that was set to be released with in the next month and asked him how he liked it. Jou complained about a glitch that happened every time you fell into a fire pit. Nobody else had found this problem in the games because they were too focused on beating the game rather than fully testing all avenues of death in the game. Mokuba promoted him to a game tester on a trail basis. Jou was grateful.
When Kaiba herd the news that one of his games was being held back for release because there was a glitch he was furious that the game testers hadn't caught it sooner.
“The game testers weren't the ones who found the glitch,” Mokuba explained, “It was Jounouchi, Katsuya, the janitor you have cleaning the toilets. I took the liberty to promote him. He is only going to be there on a two week trial period to find out if he is good for the position but I think he is going to be a great addition to the team.”
“How could you give that nobody a respectable position here at KaibaCorp?” Kaiba glared.
“I am vice president and co-owner of this company and it is well with in my powers to hire people I see fit,” Mokuba stated maturely. Mokuba had come in to his own in the company responsibilities. “Look, I know you have never really liked the guy but what is the harm in giving him a chance to prove himself? If he screws up, we can just fire him.”
“You mean, you will fire him.” Mokuba rolled his eyes and left Kaiba's office.
But Jounouchi wasn't fired. Jounouchi didn't screw up. He went on to find more glitches and errors than any other game tester in a single year, even more than Seto Kaiba himself. This was in large part to Jounouchi's unique gaming strategy: he would lose, a lot. Jounouchi was winning department awards left and right.
By the end of that first year, Kaiba requested to receive all of Jounouchi's glitch reports directly. Seto would scower his reports, searching for a mistake or some trivial reason to fire him. His anger softened even at the fact that Jou was finding errors in his games. Secretly, he started to love to read those reports. These are actually decent and he is lowering my work load. Maybe…
Kaiba had a yearly dinner for all the employees who had won employee of the year. There was an award given to each department. Jounouchi was attending as one of the guests. Kaiba wasn't actually at the dinner of course. He was too busy with developing a new Duel Disk to sell to be bothered with something as trivial as eating dinner.
The dinner was nice but Jounouchi asked to be excused. He walked though many halls and passed many doors `till he reached Kaiba's home office door. He knocked, then entered without waiting for a reply.
“You know it is polite to wait for a response,” Kaiba said still working. “What do you want mutt? You had to have a reason to leave perfectly good food.”
Jounouchi stepped forward and put a letter on Kaiba's desk. “It's my letter of resignation.” Jou turned around and started walking back towards the door.
Jou suddenly felt wind hit his face as the door just barely missed his nose as it was slammed shut in front of him. Seto Kaiba's hot dragon breath was heating up Jounouchi's neck. “I demand an explanation.” Jounouchi reached for the door once more but Kaiba grabbed him by the sholder and turned him around to face him.
Jounouchi's eyes narrowed defiantly. Kaiba's eyes were so focused on Jounouchi's that his stare could have burned though any normal mortal. But instead of being fearful Jou's eyes softened and with one quick toe up, his lips met Kaiba's. Kaiba was left speachless as Jounouchi walked right out of his office.
