Prologue

"Seto! I'm home!" A child's voice rang through the large house followed by the sounds of a book bag being dropped to the floor and small feet scurrying across tile grounding, the child's shoes where he flung them off in a closet. He raced toward the stairs in his socks, skidding a little as ran down a hall and around a corner. "Big brother!" He called again, his violet eyes filled with his youthful laugh and smile.

As the child rounded a second corner, a tall, lithe figure stepped out of the door he was headed for. "Mokuba, not so loud…" The figure then gasped as the boy tried to put the internal breaks on his feet, skidding once more. He reached out and grabbed onto the raven haired child before he fell to the tile only to trip over his own two feet and break the boy's fall.

Mokuba Kaiba laughed as he fell half onto his older brother and half off. "Miss me?" He asked, his child like eyes sparkling

Seto Kaiba shook his head and chuckled, rubbing the top of his baby brother's head. "You need to stay off of the sugar…" He said, standing up and going back into the study of the Kaiba mansion where he had been doing his homework, his little brother in tow. He ran a hand through his unruly brown locks, sweat making them stick to his skin as he sat down at a computer table, his tired and hard looking blue eyes looking at the screen again. "So… why all of the excitement, little brother?"

"You know how you were sayin' that this large house gets lonely sometimes? That really, it's too large for just the two of us and a few maids and the like?" Mokuba asked, sitting on a ladder attached to the towering bookcase in front of his brother.

Kaiba chuckled as he started to type at a machine like speed, things flashing over the screen in front of his trained eyes like lightening. "I said that over four months ago, kid…" He said, never taking his eyes from the screen to look at Mokuba, but knew that the child was smiling still.

"So? That doesn't change the fact that you said it…" Mokuba said as he let his feet dangle from his perch on the 7th rung of the ladder.

"You're right. It doesn't." His elder brother replied, continuing on with his work. It wasn't often that he got to work from home like this, and he guessed that Mokuba was finally taking the chance to talk about something he had had on his mind for some time. "But why bring it up now?" He had to know.

"Well…" Mokuba started to say, rubbing the bag of his neck a little, seemingly thinking on how to word what he wanted to say. Kaiba's fingers stopped a moment and he looked from the screen to his brother.

"Mokuba? What's wrong?" He asked, concern coming into his voice, his eyes flashing with wonder and brotherly, if not paternal, care.

"I was wonderin' if we could do somethin' to not make it so lonely no more…" The child said, meeting his brother's gaze.

Kaiba leaned back in his chair and crossed his arms over his chest. "What do you mean, Mokuba?" He asked, puzzled.

"I don't mean I want another siblin'. Trust me. You're enough to look after." Mokuba grinned as his brother rolled his eyes in a sarcastic ` oh thank you so much ' tone before looking at him again. "I love ya too much anyways…" He smiled and brought one of his knees to his chest, hugging it a he and his elder sibling held gazes still. "I was wonderin' if we could get a foreign exchange student? It would be great! And we could get a girl, too! It would be like havin' a sister!"

Kaiba chuckled. "We'll see, kid. We'll see…" He smiled, shaking his head before going back to his work, his brother soon drifting off to sleep against the side of the ladder, holding onto it gently. Seto smiled at his kid brother, searching the internet for the perfect foreign exchange student.
