Chapter One
Assistance and Introductions
“Yami, time for school!” Yugi called up the stairs.
“I'm almost ready.” Yami called back.
When he came down the stairs, he was wearing black leather pants with metal studded shoes. He wore a black leather jacket with silver buttons slightly undone. Underneath that, he wore a silk shirt expertly dyed a royal blue. Yugi sweat dropped.
“Yami, um, you can't wear that to school. It's in direct violation of the dress code. You have to put on the uniform I set out for you.”
Yami argued that his new boyfriend liked leather, but the hikari finally convinced his yami that a detention wasn't worth the trouble. By the time Yami had changed his clothes again, they were going to be late. Yugi rushed them out the door and began to walk to school.
“Why do I even have to go to this high school of yours? I already had my education many years ago.” Yami asked for the millionth time that week.
“Yami, things have changed too much for you to be able to get along in this day and age with only having your ancient Egyptian education. I'm sure that your teachers were very efficient for what you had to know back in the day, but now there's much more that you haven't discovered yet. You have to get to know more about this time before you can live in it properly. You also happen to look like a teenager and our laws say that all children go to school until they're at least 16. Besides, I said so.”
“That's what you said last time.”
“I know, but if you keep asking the same question, you're going to get the same answer; It's not going to change.” ^_^
Yami asked Yugi questions about what he needed to know about this time that he didn't already know or why Yugi couldn't just teach him himself.
~~ ^_^ ~~
Ryou was found in his yami's room trying to get him to hurry up with getting ready for school. Bakura was still getting dressed in his `complicated' uniform when the clock struck 7:30. They had 30 minutes to get to school. Ryou gave up trying to explain how to put pants on (back in ancient Egypt, the guys wore skirt-looking things. When he shared a body with Ryou, he never had to bother to learn to put on their modern clothes.) He ended up just helping his yami into them.
On the walk to school, Bakura asked the same question the former pharaoh did, and received nearly the same answer as well. When they came up to the school, they saw Yugi and Yami walking, just ahead of them, onto school grounds. Upon seeing Yugi, Bakura ran up to them to talk to him with Ryou at his heels. Ryou wanted to see Yami, seeing as how they had just started going out. He was surprised when the pharaoh had asked him, but pleased all the same. He had found out about Bakura's crush on Yugi not that long ago when he overheard the ex-tomb robber talking about him while cuddling a pillow.
**FLASHBACK**
“Oh, Yugi. Come closer.” Bakura said pulling a pillow closer to him in his bed. “I knew you'd say yes when I asked you out.”
Ryou walked into the bedroom just then quietly so as not to let his yami know he was listening. He had heard the last line, became curious, and was now listening to Bakura mumble on.
“Yugi, you're very good at that… Don't stop… What's the matter…shy?” he rolled over on top of the pillow and started making out with it. Ryou giggled slightly, getting Bakura's attention.
“Ryou, what are you doing here?! How much of that did you hear!?” He covered himself up, since he wasn't wearing anything.[Author ID1: at Mon Jul 3 17:24:00 2006 ]
“I was just going to bed when I heard you talking about Yugi,” he gestured towards his own bed. “I had no idea you liked him like that. I thought you hated him.”[Author ID1: at Mon Jul 3 17:24:00 2006 ]
“It's that baka pharaoh I can't stand. There's nothing wrong with his hikari.” He replied blushing, he knew he was caught and there wouldn't be any point in denying it. Besides, this was his aibou; he could trust him. Right? “You tell anyone, I'll kill you!”
“Oh, I won't tell anyone, as long as you do a few things for me.” Ryou smirked, looking more like his yami then ever. He really was spending too much time with the tomb-robber.
“You're blackmailing me!?”
“Let's just call it a creative arrangement.” Ryou replied, saying exactly what Bakura had said to him last time the shoe was on the other foot.[Author ID1: at Mon Jul 3 17:24:00 2006 ]
“Why you…” he growled. Ryou laughed lightly and went to bed. As much as they may fight, Ryou would never tell anyone his yami's secrets, and vise versa. That was why they got along so well most of the time.
**END FLASHBACK**[Author ID1: at Mon Jul 3 17:24:00 2006 ]
Ryou sighed and managed to nudge Bakura in the ribs with his elbow when he started ogling Yugi again, whispering that the drooling was not very subtle.

“HOW MANY TIMES DO I HAVE TO TELL YOU TO PUT YOUR SHOES ON BEFORE YOU'LL ACTUALLY DO IT?” Marik yelled at his yami. They were running late because Malik had to argue about the wardrobe and about bringing the Millennium Rod to school with them.
“My shoes ARE on, what are you talking about?” Malik complained to his lover. ^^^^^
“Your shoes go on your feet, not your hands. You know this, now stop being silly and get ready. I've been waiting for you for over an hour, now get going!”
[Author ID1: at Mon Jul 3 17:24:00 2006 ]
It took another 20 minutes to get the confused yami together and out the door. They both got on the motorcycle and left. Malik exceeded the speed limit by at least 30 miles per hour to get to school. When they pulled up into the parking lot, they saw Bakura, Ryou, Yugi, and Yami all walking and talking in a group together. They caught up to them and joined the conversation. After all, they still had 15 minutes to the bell.
They picked up their schedules for the second semester in the office and compared them as they walked to each of their lockers.

They had lunch right after third hour. (A/N: You have no idea how long it took me to make this stupid graph thing just right! I hope it's as effective as I wanted it. I was going to make a small one for each person, but you get the idea! Yugi:Just wait until our report cards come out! Me:O_O Nooooo!)
You could tell that the hikari's chose their yami's classes for them, since they didn't really know what they needed to take, or what some of the classes mean. When the yami's saw what their hikari's had signed them upfor, they weren't too happy, some of the classes they were curious as to what they were. However, Bakura was pleased to see that he and Yugi had about five classes together.
“Yugi, what exactly is `Home Economics'?” Yami asked Yugi when he read through his schedule.
All the yami's listened attentively, for they, too wanted to know.
“Um, I-it's a cooking c-class where the teacher s-shows you how to make d-different things and different styles of c-cooking.” He answered in a small voice.
“Don't worry, the class is a lot more fun than it sounds. Especially since we all have it first hour, then we get to make ourselves breakfast if we want to. Plus, the teacher doesn't really provide attention to the students.” Marik added to soften the yamis.
“Okay, but what do you think you are doing signing me and not the pharaoh up for `World History'? I practically lived it!” Bakura asked, outraged.
“There's a lot more history than just Egyptian history, Bakura, besides, it is a requirement course.” Ryou answered quickly, as if expecting the question.
“Yami learned all about history last year when grandpa enrolled him in that class over the summer.” Yugi added.
“'Woodwork and Design' sounds interesting enough.” Malik said and the others agreed, “but what is this `Pre-Algebra'?”
“It's just a form of math.” Marik replied, “it's not that bad if you can get the hang of it.”
“What do you mean `if'?” Yami asked.
“Well, math isn't something many people are good at, but you have to take it and do your best.”
“What about `Poetic Forms'?” Malik asked.
“It basically helps you learn to write poetry and understand other people's poetry. It really let's you get in touch with your creative side.” Yugi responded quickly.
“What the hell is `Biology'?” Yami asked.
“Just a class that studies the scientific history of the planet. Including the Darwin's theory of evolution, as well as how to understand exactly how different animals developed into the animals we have today.” Ryou explained.
“Well, why aren't we in `Driver's Ed' and everyone else is?” Malik asked his yami.
“That's for getting your driver's license. We already have ours. Remember when I took you to that strange building and they made you drive that ugly pink car then that trashy motorcycle as a test?” Marik replied.
“Oh yeah, I remember that place.” Malik shuddered at the mere memory.
They all went to their lockers, which happened to be right next to each other, pulled out an empty notebook and pen (they didn't get their textbooks yet), then walked to their first hour class as the warning bell rang. They had five minutes before the tardy bell rang, so they weren't in too much of a hurry. The class was the next door on the right. When they walked in, they were amazed to find that the set up was nothing like they've ever seen in a classroom.
To their left was a room full of toys with a counter and sink against the wall. A sign up on the doorway read `Child Development Class.' A glass window was on the right wall that showed the next room, which was a wide open classroom for the high school students to sit during a lecture when they're not cooking that day. To the left was a storage room that contained a large refrigerator to keep their food projects and supplies in, plus a large chest freezer. The door next to that one was a large bathroom with only two stalls.
When they walked straight, they saw the classroom with the chalkboard and teachers desk, just an ordinary classroom (except for the window behind the desks that showed the inside of the kids' room.) They continued; they found the kitchen area to their left. Along the right wall, stretching from the classroom to the kitchen, were about thirty or so sewing machines. The sign above them read, `Sewing and Textiles Class.'
There were about 5 or 6 small kitchens in the entire room with a long table to set supplies on in the middle. Above each kitchen were small numbers attached to the wall. Each kitchen had either a gas or electric stove and cabinets full of things such as pots, pans, plates, bowls, and tupperware containers. The drawers enclosed silverware and cooking utensils. There were even coffee makers and microwaves. The yamis were glad their hikaris had chosen this class for them.
Soon, other students began to file into the classroom. Not long after, the teacher arrived and ushered everyone into the classroom area. She was a middle aged plump woman with a pretty smile and bouncy blonde hair. When everyone had taken a seat, she began the lesson.
“I know that everyone's excited and ready to cook, but first we must go over a few things. I want each of you to read the sheet I'm handing out to you. I want a parent or guardian signature Friday and I expect each of you to abide by these classroom rules.
“My name is Mrs. Hallwig and I hope to teach you the fundamentals and joys of cooking. We will not be in the kitchen everyday, but we will most of the time. I will be handing out your textbooks tomorrow. Now, that we have all that taken care of, we will be making our very first dish, chocolate chip cookies. They are simple and easy to make, perfect for beginners. Before I hand out the recipe, I need to put you into groups.”
Yugi's hand went up.
“Yes?” The teacher pointed at him.
“May we choose our own groups?” he asked smiling sweetly, showing off his irresistible sparkling eyes. “Please?”
“Well,” she looked at him for a moment, Yugi blinked cutely and flashed a smile, “as long as you don't make too much noise and you can get into groups quickly, I'll let you. Okay, go ahead and get into groups of three, you've got one minute.”
The students all stood up and began to run around to find their friends. They didn't want the teacher to change her mind so they all did it somewhat quietly.
“That was a good one, Yugi,” Bakura whispered to him, “one of your best yet.”
“I agree.” Ryou said, “but she said to get into groups of three, how are we going to do that?”
“We could have the yamis in one group and the hikaris in the other.” Marik suggested.
“Are you crazy? There is no way they would stay out of trouble if we weren't around.” Ryou said.
“I'll watch them.” Yami said.
“B-but you and Bakura wouldn't last five m-minutes with each other without fighting.” Yugi countered.
“I can trade places with Bakura so he wouldn't be in our group.” Marik said, “So it would be me, Yami, and Malik in one group with Yugi, Bakura, and Ryou in the other.” As he said it, Marik didn't like the sound of it. “Well…”
“I'm not sure that's a good idea...” Yami added, eyeing Bakura.
“Well I think it's an excellent idea.” Bakura retorted; putting one arm around Yugi and the other arm around Ryou and giving the smaller one a lustful glace, one that Yugi didn't notice.
“Times up. Let's see the groups.”
Unfortunately, the closest group of people was theirs, so she went to them first. She saw Bakura with his arms around the two hikaris and assumed they were one group and the other three were the other group.
“There was no way that was a whole minute.” Yami muttered angrily folding his arms over his chest.
“What are your names?” she asked them, getting out her clipboard.
“We're Bakura, Yugi, and Ryou. What kitchen are we in?” Bakura said quickly before anyone could contradict.
“Okay, you three will be in kitchen number one.” Mrs. Halwig turned to the others, “What are your names?”
“Yami, Marik, and Malik.” Yami sighed, watching Bakura walk away with the two hikaris, slipping an arm around Yugi's waist. He hoped the tomb robber wouldn't do anything stupid.
“Okay, you can be in kitchen two.” She then turned to the other three groups.
The trio walked into the kitchen to find that, surprisingly, Bakura hadn't done anything yet. However, Malik ran over to their kitchen and began pulling things from the cabinets to examine them.
Mrs. Hallwig handed out the recipe to the students then disappeared into the classroom. Everything they needed was already set out on the table in the middle of the small kitchens.
“It looks like we're going to need flour, sugar, brown sugar, butter, milk, and eggs.” Yugi read.
“I'll get the supplies while you two get out the cookie sheet and mixing bowl.” Ryou said walking away.
Yugi opened the cabinet to get the mixing bowl, only to find that it was out of his reach. He turned around and asked Bakura to get it while he got the cookie sheet from the lower cabinet. Ryou returned with the supplies and they began to mix the ingredients. Looking over at the other kitchen, group two was having a lot of trouble.
Suddenly, a mouse ran out from under the kitchen counter in-group one. Yugi and Ryou both jumped and yelped when they heard the squeak and scrambled to get away from the small rodent. Bakura found it funny that Ryou and Yugi were afraid of the mouse, but he quit laughing when the smallest hikari latched on to his arm. He put on a brave face and chased the furry creature away from their kitchen with a frying pan, creating quite a ruckus. Soon a loud grinding noise came from group two.
//Aibou, how do you work this contraption? // Yami asked a little panicky through their link as he and Malik searched for a button on the mixer to get it to stop spinning.
/I-I'm not allowed to help you; you're not in my group. / Yugi replied, surprised Yami had asked through their link. Now that he had his own body, they loved to talk without it, only using it on occasions. Then he saw Yami's harsh glare from the other group. He shrank back a little then said /Umm, p-push the r-red button then it'll stop, I-I think. /
Yami about to do just that when Malik dropped the bag of flour all over the floor and tried to scoop it up back into the bag while Yami and Marik helped him, they were all covered in flour in a matter of minutes. They had gotten so exasperated that they failed to notice how well the other group was doing in comparison.
Yugi noticed the catastrophe in the kitchen next to theirs, and went to fetch a broom and dustpan to try and lend a hand. Bakura, who was originally laughing at them, suddenly decided to assist Yugi in finding a broom in the closet. Yami was too distracted to notice that Yugi soon closed the link a moment later.
Ryou went and found a little floor brush from under the sink, handed it to group two, then continued mixing the batter, knowing that his yami wouldn't be back for a while. About 20 minutes later, Ryou pulled the cookies out of the oven, group two just started putting their batter on the baking sheet, he figured that he'd better get Yugi and Bakura.
It turns out that Bakura had pulled Yugi into the room that held the refrigerator and freezer and started to make out with him. Yugi was caught by surprise and struggled against the much stronger yami. Bakura then talked the little one into going out with him, which was rather easy since Yugi had a crush on him for a while, but was taken by surprise and had flashbacks of when guys would do such things. Then the smallest hikari allowed the former tomb-robber to have his way. The only thing that worried him was leaving Ryou to take care of baking the cookies, but Bakura was very, shall we say, insistent that Yugi reside by him, so he just hoped Ryou wouldn't be too mad. He had Yugi against the wall in no time.
Bakura knew that Ryou knew what he was doing. He also understood that he would be more than happy to make the cookies if it meant that Bakura finally got to, uh, `talk' Yugi into going out with him. When Ryou came in, Yugi tried to pull away, not certain what his white-haired friend would say, but Bakura firmly held him in place, not aware that Ryou had just walked in, since he had his back to the door. Ryou was expecting this and tapped Bakura on the shoulder. Finally, Bakura let go of Yugi.
“The cookies are done, so I suggest that we get back to the kitchen before the teacher notices that we're gone.” Ryou said calmly, giving Yugi an approving glance.
“Okay.” Yugi said happily, catching his Ryou's meaningful look.
They walked back to the kitchen and had their cookies looked at by the teacher. She gave them an A+. Group two, having just completed their batch, received only a C- because the cookie that Mrs. Hallwig bit into happened to contain a rather large dust bunny that had been collected into the flour prior to baking.
“What are you so happy about, Bakura?” Yami asked seeing the tomb-robber's smirk.
“Well, it seems that little Yugi has just accepted my invitation to a movie this weekend, Pharaoh.” Bakura snapped back with glee, snaking an arm around the little one's waist.
“Really? That's odd, because I was just going to ask Yami to escort me to such an occasion. Perhaps we should double up.” Ryou suggested in a voice that suggested he had been thinking of that for a while.
“That would be fun! Can we, please?” Yugi asked Bakura using his dangerous cute face.
“Sounds great.” Bakura replied without realizing what he was agreeing to, he was too busy staring down at Yugi hungrily.
“What do you say, babe, want to?” Ryou asked Yami, leaning his head back on his boyfriend's chest. It had the perfect effect.
“Sure, why not.” Yami replied, looking over at Ryou.
Marik and Malik were trying desperately not to burst out laughing. They knew precisely what was going on before them. Ryou wanted Yami to see that Bakura would treat Yugi right for himself, what did it matter if he just happen to be able to tease him into it? Yugi had immediately gone along with what Ryou was doing without fully understanding what his friend was trying to accomplish, it had worked like a charm.
"Actually, let's make it a triple date, Malik, Marik, will you guys come too?" Yugi suggested.
"Sure, how about it, pumpkin?" Malik asked.
"Great!" Marik agreed.
When the bell rang, they had to go their separate ways. Bakura and Yugi had World History, Ryou and Yami had Web Design, and Malik and Marik had Woodworking. The morning went by pretty fast.
In world history, Bakura got in an argument with the teacher on what really happened when during the battle of Kul Elna (I think that's how you spell it) while Yugi laughed. In web design, Ryou and Yami sent love messages back and forth throughout the class without the teacher, Mr. Brewster, noticing. During woodworking, Marik had carved out a goofy-looking sphinx for Malik when they were supposed to be making birdhouses.
During third hour, Malik and Yami both had pre-algebra. They had fun terrorizing the poor, confused teacher with their Egyptian numbers. Yugi and Bakura both had basic algebra and they both ended up falling asleep. Ryou and Marik had algebra I, Ryou stunned the teacher by not paying any attention to what was going on in the class to talk with the former tomb-keeper.
Finally, lunchtime rolled around and they were able to go outside to eat.
“What the hell is this shit?” Bakura asked poking the yellow, rubbery substance on his lunch tray.
“It's supposed to be macaroni and cheese.” Yugi replied setting his tray aside.
“I told you to pack a lunch.” Ryou said as he and Yami shared a lunch.
“I did, I'm smart.” Malik said in mock proudness.
“You did not, I packed your lunch for you.” Marik responded.
Bakura sat under a nearby tree and gestured for Yugi to join him. When he did, Bakura reached around the hikari's waist and pulled him close so their sides were touching, leaving his arm to rest around Yugi's hip. The smallest hikari blushed, but rested his head on the white-haired yami's chest. They were sitting in a sort of circle. Each couple was sitting right next to each other. Then, the circle got bigger when Jou and Kaiba joined them.
“Hey, guys, wut's up?” Jou asked making room for him and Kaiba to sit between Yami and Marik.
“Nothing. You?” Marik asked back.
“Nothin'.”
“What new classes did you get?” Kaiba asked to no one in particular.
“We all got Home Ec. first, then we go our separate ways.” Ryou replied.
“Home ec.?” Jou asked, “What made ya take that class?”
“The yamis all need to learn to cook. It's nearly as bad as the school lunch.” Marik spoke for them.
“Oh, guess who the new couple on the block is?” Malik inquired.
“Who?”
“Yugi and Bakura.”
“No way!” Jou looked over at his friend practically sitting on Bakura's lap, “Huh, guess so. How'd that happen?”
“It's rather simple, actually. Bakura just started to make out with Yugi in home ec. They were in the supposed to be looking for a broom in the closet, but instead-”
“Okay, Ryou, I don' need da details. Hey, any of you guys see Honda or Otogi today?”
“No, and we won't, either, Jou. Remember, today's their two month anniversary; they always skip school on these occasions.” Yugi explained.
“Ah, that's right. I remember, they were gonna go to that new restaurant that opened up last week.” Jou said in realization.
“We wanted to try that place too, but we thought it'd be better to go on a weekend rather than sometime during the week.” Kaiba commented.
“Yeah, we're still goin' right?” Jou asked Kaiba.
“Of course, pup.” He replied.
“Maybe we should all go after the movie.” Bakura suggested, leaning Yugi's head back on his chest while running his hands through the boy's long spikes after having the petite teen sit between his legs.
“Johnny Steps said he was going to take Anzu there this weekend, actually.” Yami informed them, “he was bragging about it during computers.”
“Oh, we'll go another time, then.” Ryou reflected, not wanting to get stuck talking to Anzu, considering she was the biggest bitch they'd ever known. Once she found out that they were all gay, she dropped them faster then a lit a match.
“Sounds like a plan.”
“What movie are we going to see?” Bakura asked.
“I don't know. I'll call information after school and find out what's playing this weekend.” Ryou offered.
“Okay.”
Just then, the bell rang for lunch to end. They gathered their things and went to class. Jou and Kaiba went off to places unknown while Ryou, Marik, Yami, and Malik all went to poetic forms. Yugi and Bakura had painting.
They began their scenery paintings. Yugi was doing a beautiful picture of the pyramids against the setting sun while Bakura did one of the purple mountains against the night sky.
In poetic forms, they were instructed to write a poem about someone they hold close to their heart. It was due at the end of class. Of course, the couples wrote about each other. At the end of the period, they had to read them out loud. Ryou's poem to Yami seemed to be the best one. Of course, no one but Ryou and Yami knew whom it was for.
Next, they went to their different science classes and nothing eventful happened. That is, until they all met up in Driver's Ed, the study hall was in the same room as the driver's Ed students. Their teacher was a young man by the name of Mr. Cline. He was by no means prepared for the teens that walked through his classroom door that day.
First off, he couldn't even tell the difference between the hikaris and their yamis. This is always a bad sign. He set up a system of driving that he thought was foolproof, that is, unless you had a twin. He goes to the classroom, says a person's name, and takes them out to drive; making everyone wears nametags. Naturally, people that looked the same could switch tags whenever they wished.
That day, he called for Ryou and Yugi to drive. Bakura gave Ryou five bucks to let him go instead. When they got out to the beat up, ugly pink driver's Ed car, Bakura kindly allowed Yugi to drive first. Yugi slid into the driver's seat while Mr. Cline got in the passenger's side and Bakura went in the back.
The seat and mirrors were adjusted, seat belts clicked into place, and the engine kicked on. So far, Yugi only had problems with finding the stop signs, for some reason, he couldn't see them until last minute. They drove for a while without much talking, until it was time for Yugi and Bakura to switch places.
He readjusted the seat and mirrors. Once they were back on the road, he went over 40mph on a 20mph road, nearly crashing into a building. There was a lot of cussing. A man in a red pickup cut Bakura off.
“Slow down Ryou!” Mr. Cline shouted.
“Hey that mother fucker cut me off!” he said to Mr. Cline, the shouted out the window at the other driver, “what the hell was that you asshole?!” Bakura screamed. Yugi was laughing in the back. “Learn to drive, bitch!”
Then he sped off in anger; the new teacher wasn't sure what to do. Should he make them pull over and switch, give Bakura a detention, or just let it go? One look at Bakura told him to let it go. They continued driving onward. Bakura had turned the radio up and Weezer was playing `Beverly Hills.' Yugi and Bakura began to sing along with it; once again, the teacher ignored it. He was going over 70mph on the back roads.
At this point Mr. Cline was using his brake to slow them down. They drove for a while afterward. By the time they got back, Mr. Cline's hair was disheveled, his clothes were rumpled, and he was out of breath with a scarred look on his face. Bakura soon had a detention in his pocket; the only problem was that it had Ryou's name on it.
“What did you do?” Ryou asked when he saw the teacher walk into the room.
“I didn't do anything, he was the one who gave me the detention.” Bakura stated.
“You're so posing as me and taking that detention. I'm not going to go.”
“I figured that already.” Bakura replied.
“He broke the mirror off the car and nearly broke the door when he was supposed to practice parking.” Yugi said laughing, then proceeded to tell them all what happened, much to Bakura's enjoyment: he liked it when Yugi talked about him that way.
Everyone was laughing as the bell rang to signal the passing period of five minutes between classes. Next, Yami and Bakura had English I, Yugi and Ryou had English Honors, while Malik and Marik had Nations and the News.
In English, Yami and Bakura got into a fight and held a shadow game in which no one was the winner because the teacher decided that they both deserved detentions. In English honors, Ryou and Yugi read act one of the play Julius Caesar. Also, in Nation in the News, Marik and Malik insisted that they had lived in a hole in the ground for most of their lives as tomb keepers, but their teacher didn't believe them.
After school, everyone met up at the old oak tree in the front lawn. Bakura was pissed off that he'd gotten two detentions on his first day, and one of them he had to serve with the pharaoh, no less. They began to walk home together when Marik realized that he had brought his motorcycle to school, so he and his yami went to the parking lot to get it. Bakura, Yugi, Yami, and Ryou waited for them.
“Does anyone have to be home right away?” Ryou asked, an idea forming in his head.
“I know that Yami and I do. We need to get back to open up the shop.” Yugi replied.
“Then we should go out LATER.” Ryou winked.
“Sounds perfect.” Yugi said winking back, getting the message, “Yami and I can bring the, uh, our special box.”
“Bakura and I will bring the drinks.”
“And Malik and I will bring the rest.” Marik said, pulling up next to them on the curb.
They walked onward, Marik walking his bike along, stopping at their house first. Bakura and Ryou lived just one street over from them and about one house down. Yugi and Yami lived on the next street over from them, so they lived in a kind of straight line. To get to each other's houses faster, all they had to do was take the alley that connected their streets, which all of their houses were located right off of. It was actually very useful at times.
When Yugi and Yami arrived at the game shop, they didn't do much. With their grandfather gone, there wasn't much to do around there except chores and make sure that the shop was open when it needed to be. Solomon had died about a few months ago. The old man had died peacefully in his sleep; Yugi found him one day when he got home from school. He was devastated.
They told no one besides Seto and Jou. Seto had helped pay for a funeral made sure that no one would find out about it. Even though Yugi's mother still lived there, she wasn't qualified to be a parent, so they'd get sent away, anyway. The agreement DCFS (Department of Child Financial Services) made with her was that she had to live with Solomon otherwise Yugi would get taken away. They were afraid that Yugi and Yami would be sent to an orphanage, and that was the last thing that they wanted. Especially since Kaiba understood exactly what they were going through. Seto made sure that it would be very difficult to find out that Yugi's grandfather had died.
After the dishes were done, the floor vacuumed, and their clean clothes were folded and put away, they began to prepare for tonight. They packed a black backpack with many different necessities that are required for what they had planned for that night. Also, they knew not to bother with their homework, they probably were not going to go to school tomorrow, anyway. Yugi remembered only last minute about the special box that he and Yami were to bring along.
“Are you ready for tonight?” Yami asked Yugi a few hours later.
“Of course, it's going to be fun.” Yugi replied enthusiastically, “You're not going to get drunk like that one time, are you?”
“I hope not. It was pretty embarrassing. You had to take me home, nearly waking up grandpa in the process. We would've been in so much trouble of we got caught.” Yami answered.
“Well, if you do, I'll take care of you.” Yugi said reassuring his yami.
“Thanks, Yugi.” Yami answered back.
Suddenly, Yugi picked up the small CB radio and placed in on his lap. Setting the right frequency to Ryou and Bakura's CB, he managed to contact them on the first try.
said.
“Hey, tell me what's up.” He

“Yugi . . . Yami . . .come in.” Ryou said through the static.
“Yugi here, what's up?”
“ . . .guys. . .to go…?”
“What? I can't understand you.”
“You . . .ready . . .now?”
“Yeah. I'll talk to you when we get there, you're breaking up.”
“O . . .ay.”
The two were sneaking out due to the fact that Yugi's mother was a light sleeper, and her bedroom was right at the top of the stairs. They were also worried about breaking town curfew. Dressed from head to toe in black, they opened the window in their bedroom ceiling; Yami lifted Yugi up and out, throwing the bag up after him. Yugi grabbed Yami's hand and helped him climb up. They quietly closed the window behind them.
Looking around, Yami managed to find the fire escape, a slightly unstable black ladder that led halfway down the side of the house. They carefully climbed down, Yugi carrying the bag on his back. At the end of the ladder, Yami dropped the ten or so feet to the ground, landing on the thick cushion that he and Yugi had placed there long ago. Yugi dropped down after him; Yami caught him carefully on his lap. They silently walked down the long alleyway to get to Ryou and Bakura's house.

“What did Yugi say?” Bakura asked once his hikari turned off the CB.
“He said that they were ready and that he could barley understand what I was saying. I think we need to get a new CB radio.”
“Did Marik said he was ready, too?”[Author ID1: at Mon Jul 3 17:24:00 2006 ]
“Yes.”[Author ID1: at Mon Jul 3 17:24:00 2006 ]
“Good, let's get going. Yami and Yugi should be here any time now.”
Bakura and Ryou got dressed in their black clothes, which made them look even paler in the night, and then opened their bedroom door. The hallway was quiet, not a soul around. That is, until they heard Scout, their dog, come running up the stairs. Ryou shut the door quickly.[Author ID1: at Mon Jul 3 17:24:00 2006 ]
“We can't go that way. Scout will bark his head off of he sees us.” Ryou said grabbing the bag.
“The window it is.” Bakura said opening the side window and looking down. The cushion that they use was still there.
He stepped out onto the windowsill and treaded carefully over onto the vine like substance growing up the wall of their house. Ryou followed him, looking down to see Yami and Yugi waiting patiently at the bottom. They descended down to the ground, trying to stay out of the streetlight. Bakura walked over to the smaller hikari and pressed his lips against his. Without a word, they pressed down the alleyway to Marik and Malik's house.

Marik was sitting on the bed, waiting for his yami to finish packing the bag when he heard a small rock hit his window. `Damn,' he thought, `They're here already. We'd better hurry.' He got up, opened the bedroom door, and scanned the hallway for his mother. Satisfied that she had gone to bed, he turned to Malik.
“Got everything?” He whispered.
“Yes. Ready?”
“Let's go.”
They crept down the stairs with stealth no one would have thought they possessed. Before they opened the front door, Marik grabbed the household oil and oiled the hinges so they wouldn't make noise. They slid out the door with ease, locking it behind them. Everyone was waiting for them at the sidewalk. They had paired up with their lovers and walked on, toward the railroad tracks.
They walked along the tracks for a while, until the reached the right spot. On the other side of the tracks were open woods. It was private property of one Seto Kaiba, but the CEO didn't care if they used it. They climbed up over the fence surrounding it and followed their camouflage ribbons to a hidden, secluded clearing in the trees deep in the covert.
In this clearing was a fire pit, filled with fresh wood. A decent sized pile of wood lay a few feet away, beside that was a three-gallon jug of water, just in case the fire got out of hand. There was an old ugly green couch a little ways away from the pit, with a fluorescent pink cooler beside it; they were chained together. Big, comfy, brown armchairs with worn out cushions surrounded the fire pit, which Marik was now lighting. A few small tables were placed between each chair. Three of them had dueling mats on them. Ryou had taken the wine coolers out of his bag and was now placing them in the cooler; Yugi was beside him, taking out the food that he'd brought.
Yami and Marik soon had a roaring fire going; Bakura got out cigarettes that he'd brought for everyone that wanted them. The battery operated CD player was playing Fall Out Boy. When everything was settled, they all made themselves comfortable in the five armchairs and were sipping wine coolers, enjoying each other's company. Since there were only five armchairs, Yugi had taken a seat on Bakura's lap upon request. He had his head lain back against the pale Egyptian's chest.
Not long after, Ryou moved from his chair to Yami's, they were now cuddling by the fire. Marik and Malik had partnered up as well. Everyone kept each other warm, occasionally getting a wine cooler from the icebox. Bakura and Yugi shared a bottle because Yugi didn't think that he would be able to finish a whole one.
Bakura took out the cigarettes and lit one up for himself, offering one to anyone else. Malik and Marik accepted the offer. The other three, Yami, Yugi, and Ryou, refused to smoke anything. Sometimes Yami would have one of the shorts or something, but only when he was really stressed out. The music thumped in the air around them. The mix CD changing from Fall Out Boy to Pretty Ricky.
Bakura loved Pretty Ricky's hit song `Pretty Boy.' It's no wonder, the whole song was about sex and it's a rap. Each of them had favorite songs on the mix CD. Fall Out Boy was one of Ryou's.
“I love this song!” Bakura said, setting down his drink and pulling Yugi into a dance.
“Come on, Yami, let's dance!” Ryou said when he saw Yugi and Bakura; he hadn't wanted to be the only couple on the dance floor.
“Now?” Yami asked questioningly.
“Yes, let's go.” Ryou had the Yami by the arm and was dragging him to the `dance floor.'
Marik and Malik soon felt left out, so they joined in as well. Everyone was having a blast, dancing around the blazing fire in the moonlight camp. It was invigorating. After the song was over, they sat back down in their chairs, out of breath from the sudden action of dancing.
“That was fun.” Ryou remarked.
“Yeah it was.” Bakura replied, looking at Yugi sitting in his lap.
They sat out in the woods for a long time, just talking about nothing in particular. When the fire died down, they took some marshmallows, gram crackers, and Hershey's chocolate bars from the cooler and began to make smores. They had hunted for some long sticks so they could still sit in their chairs to make them. Those chairs were very comfy.
Bakura put two on one stick for both him and Yugi, asking the boy how he liked them. Yami had done the same for Ryou, and Marik for Malik. Bakura accidentally dropped a gram cracker to his right, so he leaned over to get it, only to discover a wooden handle on the side of his chair. Wondering what it did, he pulled on it. The back of the chair fell backward, making the chair more bed like. Yugi made a small squeak that only the yami heard when the chair fell back. Both of them were very surprised. Rather than fixing it, he decided that he liked having Yugi to be laying on him like that, even though he preferred the top himself.
“Hey, check the side of you chairs. I bet their all recliners.” Bakura informed them.
“What do you know, they are.” Marik replied without even checking.
“You knew?” Yami asked.
“Of course, I was the one who got these chairs for us.” Marik replied.
“Why didn't you say anything before?” Yugi asked.
“I wanted to see how long it would take for you guys to figure it out.”
“Ha ha, real funny.” Ryou mocked in good humor.
“I thought so, anyway.” Marik laughed.
“How long did it take?” Yugi asked curiously.
“About three months.” Marik informed.
“Well, now we can sleep here comfortably.” Yami said.
“No we can't. I mean, what would your mother say if she woke up to find you gone?” asked Ryou.
"Tch, my mother died a long time ago in Egypt, but if you're referring to Kari, Yugi's mother, she wouldn't care less." Yami replied.
"What about you Malik?"
“Tara goes to work really early in the morning. She would never check to see if Marik and I our in our beds because we keep our doors locked. Besides, she doesn't want to see anything, if you know what I mean.” Malik reassured.
“Ryou, your father lives in another country, and your mother doesn't wake up until noon to go to work. Why do you think she's not home when we get back from school, she's still at work because she doesn't start until late.” Bakura said, heartening his hikari.
“That's right.” Ryou remembered.
“Does that mean it's decided that we're staying the night here?” Yugi asked.
“Fine with me.”
“Same here.”
“I second that.”
“Definitely.”
“Without a doubt.”
With that, everyone began to drop off into sleep. Ryou and Yami fell asleep in each other's arms. Bakura arranged himself to be on top of Yugi and started feverishly making out with him. Marik and Malik had been thinking about doing that for a while, but hadn't wanted to be rude. Now that Bakura was doing it, they didn't have to worry about it. They jumped on each other.
Soon, they too fell asleep and Yugi and Bakura were the only ones left awake. Bakura was kind of keeping the young hikari up, otherwise he would've fell asleep a while ago. They didn't do a whole lot of talking, but they did get to know each other pretty well. Bakura felt Yugi shiver so he grabbed a nearby sleeping bag, opened it, and covered both him and the hikari.
The radio had long since stopped playing. Bakura didn't care; he was having too much enjoyment to care. He was glad that Yugi had said yes to going out with him. `I make sure he never regrets it.' Bakura thought sliding his tongue into Yugi's mouth, then started stroking the hikari's hair as they kissed. When he finally noticed Yugi was getting tired, he fixed the chair back into its original position, and they fell asleep together.

In the morning, Ryou and Yami were the first ones awake, since they were the first ones asleep. They saw everyone peacefully snoozing away, so they let them sleep. Yami checked his watch it was nearly twelve. `Good thing we decided to ditch school today.' He thought.
“I'm hungry. How about you?” Ryou asked him.
“A little.” Yami usually ate breakfast and was famished.
“Then why don't we wake everyone up and see what they want to do about breakfast?”
“Sounds good.”
Ryou went over to Marik and jiggled him a little. He jumped, waking up his yami in the process.
“Oh, hey, Ryou. What time is it?” Marik asked.
“About twelve.”
“Okay. Is anyone else up?”
“Just me and Yami.”
“Alright. Malik, get off of me and go wake Yugi.”
Malik sat up gingerly and walked over to the opposite chair, which contained Bakura and Yugi curled up together. Seeing as how Malik was always grumpy in the morning, he just shook Yugi roughly awake by the shoulder.
“Huh?” Yugi asked sleepily without opening his eyes.
“Get up.”
“Okay, grandpa, inna minute.” He replied, laying his head back on Bakura.
“No, NOW. And I'm not your grandpa.” Malik shook him harder.
This time Yugi opened his eyes and looked up at Malik. Sensing the bad mood his friend was in, he complied by jumping off of Bakura's lap, causing the tomb robber to wake up as well.
“What's going on?” Bakura asked, standing up and stretching.
“We're just thinking of what to do for breakfast.” Ryou answered.
“Have you got any ideas yet?” Marik asked.
“Well, Yami and I were thinking that we go out to eat, but that would cost money and we look like we're suppose to be in school. Plus, we're still dressed from head to toe in our black outfits.” Ryou replied.
“We could always say that we're Goth, high school drop outs.” Malik suggested.
“Okay, what about money? Can anyone really afford to go out to breakfast, and probably lunch later on?” Yugi asked.
“Why don't we just go to my house?” Ryou suggested, “My mother is gone, and the house is pretty big. We could stay there all day if we wanted.”
“Good idea.” They all agreed.
Once everything was packed up into their bags, the fire was just a pile of ash, and the chairs were securely tied to each other, the group set off to Ryou's house, looking like a gang of runaways. It would've taken less time for them to get to Ryou's house had they not had to avoid being seen by people they knew, but they still made good time.
They arrived at about 12:30. Once inside, they all relaxed in the living room, trying to decide what DVD they wanted to watch. Yugi and Ryou went into the kitchen to cook, first finding out what everyone wanted. Everyone craved pancakes. Soon they were all eating breakfast and watching the movie Breakfast Club.
Soon, they had all finished their meal and the movie had ended. No on was really sure what they wanted to do next, they thought that they should do something worthwhile since they'd skipped school. After a while, Yugi suggested that they go to the mall. The only problem was that neither of them had a vehicle nor were they to be out of school.
“That's only a problem if we get caught,” Marik said, “I'll drive, besides, I have a driver's license.”
“Then where do we get a car?” Yami asked.
“We can take my van.” Malik replied.
“You have a van?” Yugi asked surprised.
“Yeah, I won it in a contest on the radio. It's kind of weird, but I like it.”
“Really, what was the question?” Ryou said eagerly.
“They asked `Only 15 percent of guys do this for their girl/boyfriends.' The answer was simple. Dance. Not very many guys will dance.”
“Then we probably make up most of that 15 percent, we all love dancing.” Bakura mused.
They went over to Marik and Malik's house to get the van; it was in their garage. The van was huge. The interior was that of a family van where people go on really long trips. There was a bathroom, kitchen, and a living room. It was the size of a camper. They were stunned.
“What? I said it was weird.” Malik replied to the shocked stars.
“Yeah, what you didn't say that it was for long distance travel.” Yugi responded.
Everyone piled into the van single file. They went straight to the living room. Marik went to the driver's seat and started it up. The engine roared to life and they took off. Yugi, and Bakura sat on the couch while Malik sat on one of the orange armchairs. Ryou and Yami sat on the gold one.
“Where exactly are we going again?” Yugi asked smiling to Bakura.
“I would take you to the moon if that is what your heart desired, koi.” Bakura replied sweetly, kissing Yugi's forehead, and then wrapping his arms around the other.
“Awwww.” Ryou cooed, “Look at that, they've found love.” He looked over at Yami. “Isn't that cute?”
“Um, sure.” Yami replied, still uneasy about his partner dating an ex-tomb robber. To him it was like his best friend was dating an ex-convict.
They felt the van jerk forward. They had gotten out onto the road, Yugi wanted to go see if Malik wanted any company in the front, but Bakura brought the hikari onto his lap and started to kiss him senseless. Ryou laughed at the tomb robber's tactics to keep Yugi near him. Marik and Yami joined in laughing when Yugi started to tickle Bakura to get him to stop. Not that he minded, but he still wanted to go talk to Malik. It was a rather amusing sight: Bakura trying desperately to make out with Yugi, as he was being tickled and dodged by the boy. Eventually he gave up, but promised Yugi that he'd have to make it up to him later. Yugi had no objections to that. In fact, he was looking foreword to it.
He went to the front of the van to talk with Malik and keep him company, leaving the others to talk with one another until they arrive at the mall. They weren't too interested in what they were going to do once they arrived at the shopping center, in fact, the only reason they were even going was for lack of anything better to do.
“It sucks being bored.” Ryou commented in the silence.
“I hear ya.” Bakura added.
“You know what else sucks?” Marik asked, trying to bring up something he had been thinking about for a while.
“What?” Yami asked.
“The fact that our home lives are so messed up.”
“What do you mean?” Ryou asked.
“I mean that Malik and I live in that hellhole known as home. Yami and Yugi are running from the authorities and are trying to dodge Yugi's mother and boyfriends every time they come around. Also, Bakura and Ryou constantly have to deal with Ryou's drunken mother. That sucks.”
“Well, what do you expect us to do about it?” Bakura asked.
“Wait, back up. How did you know that we're trying to…” Yami was interrupted.
“Yami, we've all known about grandpa for a while now. We just didn't want to say anything in front of Yugi.” Marik interrupted.
“I see…”
“It's okay, we understand why you didn't want to tell anyone.” Ryou comforted.
“What I'm trying to get at is that there's no way we can go on like this. One of these days, Yami and Yugi are going to be discovered and get taken away by DCFS. My parents are probably going stop paying the bills and get us evicted again and force us to go live on the streets or move away, and Ryou's mother will choke to death on her own puke and he'll be sent to live with his father. I don't mean to sound harsh, but that's the way it is and we all know that.”
“Well, what do you propose we do?” Bakura asked.
“Run away. We'll be better off without them anyway.”
“Are you serious? What if we got caught? Neither of us is quite old enough to be on their own.” Ryou voiced what many of them were thinking precariously.
“We are old enough to work, besides, we can always lie about our age. It's not like we've never done that before.” Marik pointed out.
“Well, we should at least vote on it.” Yami replied. “Everyone should vote.”
“I'll go get Yugi and Malik and tell them we need to stop for a moment. I sure hope we didn't get too far out of the city.” Ryou volunteered.
After Ryou left to the front of the van, the two yamis looked over at Marik, their eyes demanding an explanation for his idea.
“Marik, how long have you been thinking about this before you actually decided to propose this to us?” Yami asked quietly.
“About three months now.” He replied just as quietly, “Anyway, I didn't want to say this in front of Ryou, but I've noticed those bruises on him and Yugi. I think that if those kids at school don't leave them alone soon, we're going to have a death on our hands.”
“What do you mean?” Bakura asked.
“Yami, do you remember when Yugi called you last week from my house on Friday and asked to stay the weekend?”
“Yes, but what does that have to do with anything?” The former pharaoh asked.
“Well, that was the day I found him getting beaten up by about four or five guys in the alley three blocks from the Game Shop. They…they beat him pretty bad. I chased them off as soon as I could, but… Yugi was more afraid of you finding out. He virtually begged me not to tell you, Yami.
“I knew that if he went home, you'd notice since it was so awful. Apparently, he knew that too because he asked if I would mind him coming to stay at my house for a while. Naturally, I didn't care.
“I'll tell you one thing though, almost as soon as we got to my house, he went straight to the bathroom with cuts and bruises all over his skin, and I do mean all over, but he came out nearly half and hour later without a speck on him. I asked him what he did and you know what he said?” Marik's voice rose a bit, but then he calmed himself just as quickly. He was having trouble talking about this. “He used make up to cover it up. Make up! That's why I think running away is the best choice. I had a similar experience with Ryou not long before that.”
The two yamis just sat in silence for a moment, thinking about everything Marik had just told them. There wasn't much Yami could say. He knew that Yugi and Ryou were having trouble at school, but the yami never would've dreamed that it was this bad. The same with Bakura, he knew, but he didn't know. The feel of the van stopping, and Malik, Yugi, and Ryou entering the room soon interrupted the silence.
“Thankfully we didn't get very far. We didn't even get near the school.” Ryou said sitting down beside Yami.
“Yeah, my van may be nice, but it's slow.” Malik added.
“What's wrong, Bakura? You look like you're thinking about something.” Yugi asked.
“Oh, uh, I was just thinking about this running away business Marik brought up.” He answered. “Are you filled in, Malik?”
“Yeah, Yugi and Ryou told me everything.”
“Good. Then let me just say, I lay my case before the court, gentleman.” Marik said taking a line from one of his favorite movies. No one laughed.
“I don't know, guys. What do you think Bakura?” Yugi asked.
“Personally, I have nothing to lose if we chose to go. The only reason I haven't left yet is you guys.” He replied. “If you all chose to go, then I'm going.”
“Well said, Bakura, I second that.” Malik added. “So I guess it comes down to you three.” He gestured to Yugi, Ryou, and Yami.
“I don't suppose that there's anything here for me either. I hate my parents, school, and nearly everyone that attends. Why, I doubt I'll even be missed.” Ryou said. “Besides, I think that Yugi and Yami have the most to lose here. You know, with the Game Shop and everything.”
Another agreed silence followed. Yami and Yugi looked at each other, obviously talking through their mind link. The others decided that they needed to have a private talk with one another as well and did the same.
--Are you sure this is what you want, Ryou? --
-Yes, Bakura, like I said, there's nothing left for me here if you guys leave. I know it sounds hasty, but I've thought about running away for years, it just never seemed like a real solution-
--…All right, if you're sure. --
(Malik, I know you won't mind driving, but there's really nothing here you want to hang on to?)
((No, Marik, I don't care where I go, so long as I'm with you; just as long as we can find a place for the motorcycle.))
//Yugi, what do you think we should do? //
/I-I don't know, Yami. W-what about our other friends? You know, Jou and Seto. W-what will they think if we just g-get up and leave like this? I-I can't leave them with out at least saying g-goodbye. /
//Well, it won't be forever, aibou, we'll come back and visit. // Yami assured.
/W-what about the G-game Shop? There are too many memories to just sell it off to a company or something. /
//Aibou, do you know what you just said? You said `a company', how would you feel if we give it to Kaiba Corp.? //
/…I-it's better then someone else. I trust Seto and Jou. /
//Well, what do you say then? //
/… …I-I think we should go…but what about you, Yami? /
//Yugi, there's nothing I want more then for you and our friends to be happy. Besides, I agree with Bakura, there's nothing here for me but my friends. If they leave, so do I. //
/O-okay, Yami. If that's how you really feel, then let's go. /
“We're going.” Ryou and Bakura said into the silence.
“So are we.” Marik and Marik added, “What about you two?” he asked Yami and Yugi.
“…W-we're going too.” Yugi answered.
“There is one condition, though. We have to visit Seto and Jou before we leave and ask them if KaibaCorp is willing to hold on to the Game Shop for us.” Yami added.
“That sounds like a grand idea, Yami.” Ryou said, “We need to go back to our houses to pack, leave running away notes, etc. anyway.”
“Running away notes?” Malik asked.
“Yeah, you know, `By the time you read this I will have been gone etc. etc.” Yugi replied.
“Okay, well, how about this? First, we drop Yugi and Yami off at the Game Shop first to pack while we go to our own houses to pack. They should be the first ones done and they can leave their stuff in their bedroom and walk to Kaiba's mansion. Marik and Malik will drop us off next and go to their house. Once they load all their stuff, they come to our house and load our stuff. We all go to Seto's house and meet Yugi and Yami there. After we talk to him and Jou, we go back to the Game Shop and get their stuff, then leave.” Bakura suggested.
“Sounds like a plan.” Malik replied. “Lets get going before one of our parents gets off work. We don't want to get caught.”
As soon as that was said, they put their plan into action. They drove to the Game Shop first and dropped off Yugi and Yami, leaving them to pack their stuff before driving off to Bakura and Ryou's house to drop them off next. Yugi looked up at the Game Shop and walked in with Yami beside him. He looked around the store, realizing that this would probably be the last time he saw it for a very long time. He started to cry.
“Yugi, it's okay. We'll be back again someday. I know it's been hard for you after grandpa's death to walk in here everyday and see that he's not here.” Yami wrapped strong arms around his hikari and let the smaller cry into his shirt. “Shh, it's okay. Everything's going to be fine. Yugi, are you sure you want to leave?”
“Y-Yami,” he hiccupped, “I-I…I have to. I c-can't take l-living here anymore…it's t-too p-painful. I-I see g-grandpa e-everywhere I l-look.” His crying increased and Yami held him tighter.
“Everything's going to be alright. I know Seto and Jou will take good care of the shop until we're ready to come back. And we willcome back. I know it would be too much to say goodbye forever. So let's just say goodbye for now.”
“O-okay, Yami.” Yugi lifted his head from Yami's shirt and sniffled a little more before allowing his yami to help him to his feet and up the stairs then into their room.
They packed everything that they thought that they'd need with them. Yugi and Yami packed some of their clothes, all of their duel monsters, a blanket and pillow for each of them, and a mess kit. Once they thought they had everything, then they walked to KaibaCorp.
Knocking on the door, Yugi and Yami waited for someone to answer the door. A young female maid opened the door and showed them in. They stepped inside and waited, removing their shoes and putting them off to the side.
“What are your names?” The house cleaner asked.
“Just tell him Yugi and Yami are here to see him and Jou.” Yami replied.
The maid said nothing and walked in the direction of the living room, where he and Jou were cuddling on the couch watching a movie. When the house cleaner announced that Yugi and Yami were here, the TV was shut off and the pair walked over to the door and invited the two look-a-likes into the kitchen, wondering what possessed them to just drop by when they always called.
“Is something wrong?” Jou asked first.
“N-no…well, sort of…I-I mean…” Yugi trailed off and looked up at Yami for help.
“Bakura, Ryou, Malik, Marik, Yugi, and I are going away for a while. We don't know where we're going or when we're going to come back, but we do know that we need to get away from our current lives.” Yami answered sadly while Yugi glued his eyes to the floor, tears welling up in his eyes. “I'm sure the two of you both know what I mean when I say that.”
“W-we wanted to say goodbye to you guys, for now, at least.” Yugi said into the silence.
“You're not going to change your mind about this are you?” Seto asked. The pair just shook their heads.
Jou kneeled down to his petite friend and wiped away his falling tears. “We can talk all the time with the new technology. Besides, I'm glad that you're taking some sort of action to get away from the hell that you live in now.” He comforted thinking about the large bruises and cuts that he saw on his little friend. Joey instantly knew that Marik, Malik, Ryou, and Bakura were all going with them.
“W-would you two l-like to c-come?” Yugi asked.
“I'm sorry, but I have a company to run and a brother to take care of.” Seto answered.
“I need to be here for Seto, Yug, thanks for thinking of us, though.” He thought for a minute, and then stood up, “What are you going to do with the Game Shop?”
“We hoped that KaibaCorp would like to use it for their own merchandise.” Yami answered looking at Seto.
“P-please take it, I-I can't bare to trust anyone else t-to take care of it.” Yugi stammered to the formerly cold-hearted CEO shyly.
“How much are you asking for it?” Kaiba requested, thinking that his friends were asking him to buy it.
“W-we're not asking you to buy it, S-Seto. We're giving to you.” Yugi replied.
“Yugi, I'm not going to take the shop unless you accept some sort of payment for it. I absolutely refuse.” He said softly.
“I have a better idea.” Yami interrupted, “We aren't going to be able to take everything in the van with us, but I know there are things that we don't want to lose. The same goes for the others. Could you rent a storage facility under your name to hold everything until we're ready to come and get it?”
“W-we'll pay for it, of course.” Yugi added liking the idea.
“No you won't.” Seto replied, “It's about 10 dollars a month to rent one of those. I could rent one for you for years and still not have fully paid you the worth of the Game Shop. I'm not taking no for an answer.” Seto said finalizing the deal.
“T-thank you, Seto.” Yugi replied softly. “This means a lot to all of us. I'll send the legal document to the shop to you once we get there. I know where grandpa kept it, but mother doesn't.”
Yami and Yugi talked through their mind link and Yugi said something to him that sent waves of sorrow through Yami's heart. He felt tears sting his eyes as well when his hikari made one simple request to him. The two look alikes walked up to Jou and Seto together, throwing their arms over the both of them. The hug was returned, making it into a group hug. It lasted until they heard a knock at the door.
The maid answered it and four people walked in, removing their shoes and headed to the kitchen. Bakura, Ryou, Marik, and Malik saw tears in the other four's eyes. They broke down at the sight and joined the hug. On the way there, they had each promised themselves that they wouldn't cry at the departure, but that was broken the moment they set eyes on the very two people they would have to leave behind.
Once they all broke apart, Jou and Seto remained silent, thinking about what it was going to be like with out the others around. They had other friends that they hung out with besides them, but that group of yamis and hikaris had no one else. It would be difficult for them to get settled, but not impossible. What they wondered now was how they were going to pay for everything once they got on the road.
“Are you going to say goodbye to anyone else?” Jou asked.
“There's no one left to say goodbye to, Jou.” Ryou replied softly. “Mia is gone, Anzu hates us, Otogi and Honda don't ever have time for anyone else, we never see your sister, Mako is catching up with his dad, and everyone else has moved away.” Jou knew there'd be no point in mentioning his and Seto's other friends because neither of the hikaris or yamis would know who they were.
“I know you're going to have to leave soon, but there's something I want to give you before you go.” Seto said to them then left the room, quickly returning with a thin, square box in his hands, “I had placed an order for a new set of these for the employees and myself, but the company made a mistake and sent us one extra. It's a laptop by the way. Everything is already online; you just have to turn it on. It is connected directly to my computer network so you can get in direct contact with me at any time. Use it whenever you need to and don't worry about paying for anything. It will go automatically on the KaibaCorp bill.” He handed the computer to Yugi, thinking that he would be the one to use it most to talk to Jou. Just as Yugi was about to say something, Kaiba interrupted. “And Yugi, don't you dare say anything about the bill, it nothing compared to how much money I have.”
“T-thank you, Seto. Y-you really don't n-need to do all of this.” Yugi said tenderly, hugging the computer to his chest.
“I want to.” He replied. “Don't even bother getting the store merchandise together for the storage facility, I'll get my men on it first thing. And Yugi, the shop is in good hands.”
“I know.” Yugi smiled softly, tears still in his eyes.
“We'll e-mail you everyday and write letters when we can.” Marik said.
“You can be sure of that.” Bakura added.
“Promise you'll call or e-mail if you need anything.” Jou said to all of them.
“We promise, Jou. You just don't worry about a thing and keep us updated on everything that goes on around here.” Ryou replied.
“Don't forget, this isn't goodbye forever,” Malik reminded them, “We'll come back one day.”
“O-on another note, d-do you think they'll be looking for us?” Yugi inquired worriedly.
“I don't know.” Seto answered, “Your families aren't exactly the caring type.”
“We know.” Bakura replied frostily. “We have to get going if we want to be able to go back to all of our houses and pick up the bags.”
“T-that reminds me, Seto said that we can put a few things we can't take along at the Game Shop and he'll put it in a storage facility.” Yugi said to everyone.
“Thank you, Seto.” Ryou said after hearing this, and it was echoed by everyone else's thank-yous as well. They were all touched by his kind gesture.
“Just let us know if there's anything else we can do.” He responded, slightly uncomfortable with the gratitude.
“T-there's one thing I-I was wondering, though.” Yugi replied hesitantly.
“What is it?”
“A-are you going to evict my m-mother from the s-shop?” he asked unsure.
“Only if you want me to.” Seto replied. Yugi didn't answer, but simply nodded his head, an action so small it was barley caught by the company owner. “I'll take care of it first thing in the morning.”
“T-thank y-you.”
“We'll talk to you later, guys.” Ryou said to them.
“Goodbye.” Jou said to them all as they walked to the front door.
They redoned their shoes and each gave Seto and Jou individual hugs before walking out the door. They were surprised to find that they sky was slightly pink and the sun was setting. It wouldn't be long before they were out of time. The three yamis and three hikaris waved from inside the van as Malik drove off, honking the horn a few times.
"Love you!" Yugi shouted out the window to Jou and Kaiba.
"Dearly, not queerly!" Jou shouted back, waving enthusiastically.
They continued waving as the mansion and those who dwell within disappeared from sight.
“I'm going to miss them.” Yugi said as they settled in the back.
“We all will, aibou.”
“You don't regret any of this, do you koi?” Bakura asked the small boy cuddled in his arms.
“No, I don't. I'm sick of everything, as I'm sure we all are. And I'm sick of depression and crying all the time just by living at the shop. This is the only way to make it all end.” He replied and everyone fell silent, each thinking about their own inner sadness and dejection.
“We're here. I figured we'd go to our house first since it's the closest one in line, so to speak.” Malik announced from the driver's seat.
“Okay. We must act fast, I know my parents are going to be back any time now.” Marik told everyone as they piled out of the van and into the house.
Once inside, they went straight to Marik and Malik's bedroom where they proceeded to grab anything they needed, which wasn't much, and put it in the van. No furniture was taken though. Once they were done, Marik went to his parent's room and snatched money from his father's dresser, thinking that it wouldn't matter since they were never going to see them again anyway. Marik wrote a quick note to his parents, asking that his yami help him.
To Whom It May Concern:
I'm gone so don't bother trying to find my boyfriend or me. I'm certain you don't give a damn so I'm not sure why I'm bothering to write this. Anyway, I'm just sick of you assholes and I'm out of here, where I'll never have to deal with this abuse again. If you have even an ounce of remorse in you for what you've done, I still don't think I can forgive you yet. Maybe one day I will, but not now. If you don't, then fuck you. If you even dare to follow us, I'll send you to the Shadow Realm! My minions will gladly destroy you and your pathetic life.
Your former son and his yami,
~Marikand Malik.
Next stop was Ryou and Bakura's place. They did the same thing there, taking some clothes. Ryou had saved money in a ceramic piggy bank for years and grabbed that as well. Of course, he had started a savings account for college and grabbed his checkbooks and such as well. Bakura took money from Ryou's mother's purse. It only took a few minutes to gather everything into the van. Everyone helped; except for Malik who remained in the van in the case, they needed a quick getaway. Together, Bakura and Ryou wrote a note to Ryou's parents explaining everything and saying the last words they ever would to them just as they were about to leave.
Dear Mum:
I wish we could've gotten a chance to understand each other better. I would've liked to have a normal mother son relationship with you, but all hope of that was destroyed when you decided I wasn't worth you're time. I don't care if you choose to call dad and tell him about this, and no I'm not running to him. Don't bother trying to find me, Bakura and I will be long gone. If you have any regrets concerning me, I will try to hold that in my heart when I say this: You can burn and disintegrate in hell for all I care. And I hope you do. Don't bother asking the demons for mercy for you deserve none. I have nothing more to say to you.The Shadow Realm doesn't take kindly to humans, especially those who abuse their young. If you are to ever seek us out, it will be short lived and I will send your soul to oblivion.
No longer yours,
~ Ryou andBakura
Yugi's game shop was after that. Everyone grabbed the things that they thought weren't necessary and tossed them in the Game Shop where it would all be transported to Domino Storage. Yugi went to his grandfather's old bedroom and lifted up a floorboard from under the bed, removing a flat box full of papers showing ownership of the Game Shop. He quickly brought it to the van and tucked it safely under his seat then rushed into the shop to help the others. Yugi and Yami quickly composed a note to the hikari's mother.
To mom:
I just wanted to tell you that Yami and I are leaving and I hope we never see you again. You're cold and cruel and we don't want to bother putting up with you anymore. I think I should add that I sold the Game Shop so you won't be permitted to live here any more. Don't try any legal actions and just leave; it's better for you that way. I don't want you to give my friend any trouble; I know that if you do, you'll pay for it dearly. We never want to see you again. I'm sorry that you didn't love me and that we never had anything more then a harsh recognition of one another's presence, but it seems that it became even more so after grandpa died. I miss him and I ask that you pay your respects to his grave, which you'll find in Domino Cemetery. If you can't even do that, then you're not even worth this letter.(&)Yugi is very kind to you in this letter, but don't expect the same from me if you were to ever find us. The Shadows would feast on your souls for all eternity or I could force you to live your worst nightmare over and over again. I pray for your sake that you don't come looking for us.
Gone Forever,
-Yugi & Yami
He had a thought about the look on his mother's face when she got an eviction notice from Seto telling her that she had to move out. He went into his room with the others and grabbed the things he and Yami had packed but froze when they heard the door slam and a loud curse emit from downstairs.
“What the fuck are all these bags?!” shouted a male voice.
“I don't know. Yugi, get your ass down here!” A woman's voiced screamed.
Yugi looked around at his friends and then at Bakura.
“You guys keep going. Take the fire escape from this floor and pull the van around front. I'll meet you out there.” Yugi whispered to them.
“But Yugi-” Bakura started.
“There's only one bag left and I know you guys won't get caught. If I'm not out in five minutes, just park out front with the headlights off, I'll meet you there.”
“Okay, but nothing better happen to you or I'll kill your mother's boyfriend.” Bakura replied, giving Yugi a quick kiss on the lips. “Painfully.”
“I'll stay too just to make sure nothing happens, besides your mother would get suspicious if I wasn't there.” Yami said.
“Okay. See you soon.” Marik replied ushering Ryou, Bakura, and Malik out the door.
“YU-GI!!”
“C-coming mother.” Yugi and Yami proceeded down the stairs as their friends went in the other direction.
They walked down the stairs quickly, stomping their feet more then necessary to hide any noises their friends may have been making opening the back door. Yugi's mother and her current boyfriend were standing at the bottom of the stairs in the shop part of the home looking very pissed.
“What's all this shit doing here?” She asked dangerously.
“There's only a few bags, mom, it's really not much.” Yugi answered.
“Answer the question, runt!” The man snapped back handing the hikari, knocking him to the floor.
“Don't you touch him!” Yami yelled immediately standing in front of Yugi.
“What, you want some too?” he laughed. Yami growled and Yugi stood up, wiping blood from his lip.
Yugi's mother looked around the room at the bags, not caring if her son was beaten half to death along with his crimson-eyed friend. She wanted answers now and was willing to let her boyfriend beat them out of the pair.
“Answer the question, boys, or you'll both end up on the floor, and I guarantee you won't be getting up.” She threatened.
“It's a new shipment of games, that's all.” Yami replied keeping his expression impassive.
“You're lying, kid! We just got a shipment yesterday first off and second, they come in boxes.” She retorted. The man beside her grabbed Yami around the throat and threw him off to the side, his back hitting a stack of merchandise.
.
“I know the little one will tell us if you don't.” the man sneered at Yami, walking towards Yugi. The hikari backed away until he ran into the counter, he grabbed Yugi by the front of the collar and slamming him into the counter behind him. “Now, what the hell is all this shit?”
“I-it's j-just some stuff a f-few of our f-friends asked us t-to hold on t-to.” He replied shakily.
“Now that makes more sense. You see, Yami? This little pipsqueak will tell us everything.” He tightened his grip on Yugi and watched the former pharaoh stand up and walk over to them a little unsteadily.
“Alright. You got us, now what?” he asked.
“I think I'll beat the squirt and make you watch. What do you think baby?”
“I don't care what you do, just come to bed when you're done.” She replied walking out of the room and up the stairs to her room, her bra strap slipping down from her shoulder.
“You'll do no such thing!” Yami retorted, yelling at the man before him.
“What are you going to do about it? Nothing while I hold Yugi.”
“Let go of me!” Yugi shouted suddenly, making the man's attention turn on him, and in that instant, Yami struck. He was down and out before he even knew what hit him.
“Are you all right aibou?” Yami asked helping Yugi step over the man's unconscious body.
“Yes, I'm fine, thanks to you.” He replied, “now let's get the hell out of here.”
“I'm glad to hear you say that.” Yami grinned. Yugi smiled back and the pair walked outside to find the van waiting.
“We figured that we could just sit out here until you could sneak away.” Malik said from the window, “Now get in and let's get the hell out of here!” Yugi and Yami looked at each other and laughed.
They walked in the van to find Ryou cooking a late dinner while the others watched a DVD on the computer Seto gave them. They were watching The Notebook, a sad, love story about a husband trying to help his wife fight a losing battle against Alzheimer's disease, believing he can save her. He does this by telling their life story together. Malik was busy driving as Marik and Bakura cried. Yugi went over to Bakura and hugged him tightly in comfort, only to find out that he just faking to get him to make out with the sneaky tomb-robber. It worked, but Yugi was a little upset about being deceived and decided to pout. Yami helped Ryou in the kitchen. Soon he had the white haired hikari pressed against the counter.
“Hey, don't pout at me, Yugi. I'm just getting you back for earlier when you tickled me and went to talk to Malik in the front.” He countered to the small teen under him on the couch. He stealthily slipped a roaming hand under Yugi's shirt as he pressed against him. His mouth captured the light's as his other hand moved lower and lower. Marik had moved to the floor with the movie, giving a small sob as the storyline progressed. He wasn't faking.
“I can't watch this anymore, it's too sad!” he announced abruptly, “What other DVDs do we have?” he asked.
“Well, I brought The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, Pirates of the Caribbean, and my personal favorite, Benny and Joon.” Ryou replied gesturing to his creamy white bag in the corner of the room.
“Well, I know Malik brought The Mummy, The Mummy Returns, and of course, The Notebook. I brought Competitive Affairs, and American Werewolf in London.” Marik announced.
“I only brought the DVDs Yugi gave me for Christmas, Too Wong Fu thanks for everything Judi Numar and Breakfast Club.” Yami added.
“I haveMummies Alive, and Freddie Vs. Jason.” Bakura said moving just far enough from Yugi's mouth to answer.
“The ones I brought probably won't interest anyone, but they're A Walk to Remember and Lurking Horror.” Yugi said to everyone, then was caught by surprised when a tongue roughly entered and probed his mouth.
“Okay, then what should we watch? A scary film?” Marik asked.
“Why don't we skip on the movie and talk about what we've just done.” Ryou suggested quietly.
“I agree with Ryou.” Yugi added, “What do we do now? Where do we go?”
“I say we go to my aunt's old getaway house. It's quite a drive, but she practically abandoned it after she left the country with my father. They always kept it as a constant reminder to my mom that they could return whenever they wanted.” Ryou tossed in.
“What if they come back?” Yami asked.
“Are you kidding me, pharaoh? That was a total empty threat when they said that, I could read it on their faces. They're never coming back.” Bakura answered, sitting up.
“Wait, how did you see their faces? I thought Ryou's father ran out on his mother for his aunt long before he met you.” Marik asked.
“I've seen the memories, which is just as good as being there.”
“Never mind that, how long could we stay there? Is it big enough for all six of us? What about school?” Yugi couldn't stop himself from asking the questions even if he tried.
“Yugi, take a deep breath and relax. We can stay there as long as we need, it's defiantly big enough, and we can enroll in the nearest school as soon as we figure out how.” Ryou answered as Bakura pulled the petite hikari onto his lap and wrapped his arms around him.
“Everything will be fine, koi, I'll take care of you.” Bakura whispered into Yugi's ear, causing him to relax into his arms. Yugi leaned into the other's chest; Bakura intuitively wrapped his arms around him in a warm embrace. "He does bring up a point, though. We left without a single plan of what we were going to do once we left."
"There's no use dwelling on such things right now." Marik stated. "All we can do is go to Ryou's aunt's house and take it from there."
"I agree. Ryou, do you know how long it will take to get to your aunt's house?" Yami asked.
"I'd say about two days drive without stopping." He answered,
"What about Malik?" Yugi asked, "He has to rest sometime."
"I can drive too, so the two of use can switch once he gets tired." Marik answered.
"Also, he can let us know if he comes across a DMV somewhere along the way." Yami added, "If the rest of us can take the test and pass, we'll be able to rotate driver's better."
"Well, we can only take the test if we have our permit, 25 hours sheet filled out, a birth certificate, and a social security card." Ryou replied, "I remembered to bring all that stuff, in fact, I've had it in my book bag since we started taking driver's education."
"If we happen to drive by the DMV, then anyone with the right materials should go try and take the test." Bakura commented. "That would include just about everyone, I suppose. I doubt either one of us is stupid enough to leave important things like that behind."
"I'm sure we all have everything we need to do that, Bakura. I mean, who'd forget something that important?" Yugi inquired. "Besides, I was going to tell you this later when we actually needed it, but I may as well tell you now. I found my mom's boyfriend's gas card if we're really short on cash."
"Great, so that solves the money problem as far as gas goes, but what about the rest? We do need to eat sometime." Marik asked.
"I don't know about the rest of you guys, but I don't mind staying in the Puzzle if need be. In our Items, we don't have to worry about such necessities." Yami commented. "It would cut back on expenses for three people and that alone would save a pretty penny."
"Good idea. My Soul Room in a pretty nice place, so I don't mind being there for a significant amount of time." Bakura added, "I know that you hikaris could stay in your Soul Rooms for only a certain amount of time, but it may be long enough to ward off any hunger."
"That's not true." Yugi contradicted in a voice that showed he wasn't being mean. "If I go into my Soul Room hungry, I leave the same way since my body still need the energy regardless of where my mind is."
"Same here, mate." Ryou added.
"Ditto." Marik agreed. "But we at least managed to cut the food bill in half. All we need to worry about now is your mother tracking us with that card. If they notice it gone and think to do that, but it's possible that they'd just report it stolen and discontinue it."
"That's true, do you guys think we should take the risk of them following us? Or should we just not use the card at all?" Yugi asked.
"I think we should take the risk, koi. I mean, what are they going to do if they find us? They can't stop us at all. They don't even have magic." Bakura retorted.
"That's true. All we have to do is send them to the Shadow Realm to be ripped to shreds and eaten by monsters. There's no way they're going to do anything that'll prevent that from happening if they ever catch up with us." Marik agreed.
"I-I hope you're right." Yugi proclaimed with a sigh. "I just wish it hadn't come down to this in the first place."
"Me too." Ryou added. He did it in such a way that made Yami walk over and put his arms around him.
