Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Fiction ❯ Charity Work ❯ Chapter 1

[ P - Pre-Teen ]

It was a dark and stormy night. The chilly night wind howled past the windows of Seto Kaiba's mansion, making the bare tree branches scratch against the glass. Mokuba Kaiba snuggled up against his elder brother, wrapped warmly in a thick quilt as Kaiba leaned back in an easy chair, reading some novel he had picked up off one of the mansion library's shelves. Flames in the fireplace crackled softly, giving the room a friendly glow. The younger of the brothers had almost drifted off to sleep when there came a knock at the den door.

"Enter," Kaiba said, not looking up from his book. Immediately, the straight form of Lewis the butler came in.

"Sir, there is a group of young people requesting to be let in," Lewis reported.

Kaiba looked at him curiously. "Requesting to be let in?" he echoed. "Who?"

"They will not say," the butler replied. "They simply said that they wanted in and demanded that I seek you out, sir."

Mokuba gazed up at his elder brother. "What're you gonna do, Seto?" he asked. "Are you expecting anybody?"

"No," Kaiba responded. He set down his book and motioned for Mokuba to jump off his lap. The boy did so and Kaiba stood, walking out of the room and down the hall with Lewis and Mokuba not far behind him. Finally, he reached the front door which was being knocked upon quite heartily. Kaiba motioned for Lewis to open the door and the butler complied, bowing and stepping out of the way.

"Now who are you?" Kaiba demanded upon seeing the group of young teenagers, soaked through, on his doorstep. "And what do you want?"

"HellO!" one of the girls with short, dark hair greeted. "HellO!"

"HellO!" the others joined in. "HellO! HellO! HellO! HellO!"

Then the first girl switched her greeting to: "HellO! Goodbye! HellO! Goodbye!" and the others soon joined in that as well. Kaiba stood dumbfounded, staring at them as Mokuba hid behind his brother, holding onto one of Kaiba's legs in fear.

Once Kaiba had recollected himself after his initial shock, he demanded in a louder voice than before, "Who are you and what do you want?"

"We are Libby!" the first girl announced. "I mean, I am Libby! These are my associates, Mara, Talon, Tady, Josh, Beth, and Sarah!"

Another round of "HellO! Goodbye!" followed until Kaiba asked again what they wanted.

"Okay, it goes like this," said Libby. "THE YEAR WAS 2003! My associates and I made plans to visit Domino, which is this city right here. However, when we arrived, we found that we had forgotten to make hotel reservations! Therefore, we came here to ask if we could stay here for a night!"

"What?" Kaiba snarled. "What makes you think I'd let the likes of you stay in my mansion?"

"Because you love us," the girl named Mara answered, and the others nodded in agreement.

Kaiba frowned.

"Think of it this way," the only boy of the group, Josh said. "If you let us in, you'll be doing this group of pathetic souls a favor."

"And might I add sir," said Lewis the butler. "The publicity you may acquire from such actions."

Kaiba thought a moment. It was true that he had established quite a name for himself as a bloody-thirsty tyrant of the business world, and because of it not everyone supported him and his company. However, if news got out that he had helped these kids off the street…

"All right, come in," Kaiba growled. "Wipe your feet. Don't track any mud in."

There was a surprised gasp throughout the group and they all filed in, Libby and Mara getting stuck in the doorway when they tried to come in at the same time, but they eventually worked it out. The teenagers and Mokuba stood in the entranceway, all looking at Kaiba.

"Take off your coats and shoes. Lewis will take care of them," he said.

"I thought he was gonna tell us to take off our clothes!" the one called Talon exclaimed and a round of giggles accompanied. The group then began taking off their coats and such and giving them to the butler.

"Remember when Lewis went home in your backpack?" Mara asked Libby, causing her to receive a confused look from the holder of their coats.

"Oh my God, that was scary!" Libby replied. "Ha ha, but I liked Lewis. He is dead now."

"I don't like the looks of 'im," Talon whispered to the one introduced as Beth. "It's always the butler, I tells ya."

"How'd you all like a tour of the mansion?" Mokuba asked in a friendly voice. "I'm sure me and my big brother could show you around. By the way, my name's Mokuba. His is Seto, but everyone calls him by our last name, Kaiba."

"How retarded is that?" Talon scoffed. "Who calls anybody by their last name? Retards."

"I like Seto better," the one named Sarah said. "It sounds hotter."

Mara and Talon cleared their throats loudly.

Kaiba made an aggravated sound of displeasure. "All right, I'll take you on a tour. But don't touch anything. Everything in this building is worth more than all of you combined." He led the way through the giant entranceway and around the right side of the stairs, but not before Talon seized a pair of driving gloves from a table near the door and stuck them in her pocket. The rest followed, whispering to one another excitedly. Kaiba stopped at the doorway of a large room that looked vaguely like a living room but with more extravagant furniture than any of them had ever seen before.

"This is the den," Mokuba stated. "It's where we entertain guests sometimes. Take a look around."

The alienated teens filed into the room, looking around them at all the different furniture. There was an elegant white couch which at either end was a small end table with flourishing potted plants on them. There was a shiny coffee table in the middle of the room and there were also two easy chairs. The teens began sitting on each of the said furnishings and complained about each one.

"This chair's too tall," Talon whined.

"This couch's too long," Tady whined.

"This chair's too soft," Beth whined.

"This table sucks," Mara whined.

"This plant's too spiky," Sarah whined.

"All right, enough," Kaiba interrupted. "Next room." He turned and headed out the doorway, the teens and Mokuba following. They walked a little ways then he stopped and gestured to a closed door. "This is the pool room," he said. "If you wish to see it, take off your socks."

"I thought he was gonna tell us to take off our clothes," Mara blinked.

"Me too!" Beth exclaimed and everyone minus Kaiba began giggling madly.

"Your socks," Kaiba repeated once the laughter had died down enough for him to be heard. "Remove them."

The group began to comply and all went well until Libby lost her balance and hopped around precariously on one foot until she fell over on top of Kaiba, who tottered and fell himself, knocking over Josh who fell over Tady, causing her to knock over Mara, Talon, Sarah, and Beth. The hallway erupted into laughter and Mokuba, who had been the only one left standing, doubled over and fell to the floor, laughing and rolling in delight. The tangled mass of teenagers was broken only when Kaiba, still not laughing, emerged from the pile and yelled angrily over them:

"Shut up! Let's finish this tour so I can get back to what I was doing!"

Slowly, everyone else got back up on their feet and finished removing their socks. Kaiba opened the door and the group filed into the warm, tiled room where a beautiful full-length swimming pool shimmered with the sunlight filtering in through the stained windows. A thick silence filled the room for a moment until most of the girls began chanting,

"CGIP! CGIP! CGIP! CGIP!"

"CGIP!" Sarah joined in, pretending she understood what it meant.

"What's CGIP?" Mokuba asked before Kaiba could stop him.

"Tell the story, Libby!" Beth said.

"Okay, okay!" Libby answered. "Okay. THE YEAR WAS 2003! Myself and my associate Beth were in the pool at the hotel when we went to Cedar Point! A man comes up to us and says, 'Do you mind if I pan the pool?' and he as a video camera! And we said 'Sure, just let us get out' and he said, 'No, that's okay. Just stay in' and so he starts panning the pool while we're still in it! Why did we stay in? I don't know! Why did we stay in, Beth?"

"I don't know!" Beth wailed. "That man was scary!"

"Are you quite finished?" Kaiba growled. "We still have most of the mansion to see." He led the way out of he room and back into the hallway where they all returned their socks to their feet.

"I wanna see the playground next!" Talon declared.

"Yeah!" the teenagers cheered.

"We don't have a playground," Kaiba replied, walking down the hallway.

Mara gasped. "You don't have a playground?"

"What kind of big brother are you?" Tady inquired.

"How could you deny this sweet, little boy a playground?" Josh demanded, setting a hand on Mokuba's shoulder. Mara and Talon cleared their throats loudly.

"My little brother is perfectly happy without a playground," Kaiba snarled, stopping and turning to face them. "Don't try and tell me how to raise my brother!"

"I dunno Seto," Mokuba spoke up. "Maybe a playground would be kinda fun."

"You're corrupting my brother's mind!" Kaiba exclaimed. "Now drop it or the tour will end right here, right now!"

The teens all lowered their head simultaneously, all making small noises of sadness. They continued walking down the hall in silence until they reached two large double doors, stretching half way up to the high ceiling and made of a rich wood.

"This is my room," Kaiba announced. "This room is private. You are not to enter this room under any circumstances."

Even before he had finished speaking, Libby had dashed past him and burst through the doors with the others not far behind her. Kaiba panicked and followed them in with Mokuba at his heels.

"What're you doing?!" Kaiba shrieked. "I said this room is private! Get out!'

"This room's as big as my house!" Sarah exclaimed, spinning around the room with her arms outstretched. Libby and Tady had begun jumping on the king-sized bed and Josh had found Kaiba's laptop and had begun playing a game of virtual air hockey. Mara and Beth had gone to explore the gigantic bathroom and Talon had gotten lost in the closet.

"You guys're in big trouble!" Mokuba screeched. "Nobody's allowed in my brother's room!"

"This is one big-ass bathtub!" came Beth's voice.

"Let's see how many of us can fit in it!" Mara proposed.

"Not all of us," Libby mumbled, jumping off the bed.

"Larger predators," Tady added, following. Josh and Sarah followed right after.

"Get out of there!" Kaiba snarled, running after them. "That is my private water chamber!"

"Heh, water chamber," came Talon's muffled voice through the closet door.

"You better not be getting my brother's clothes messy!" Mokuba called back to her. Kaiba, on the other hand, had burst into the bathroom to find Mara, Sarah, Libby, Tady, Josh, and Beth all standing in his large, ceramic tub.

"Come on, Kaiba!" Libby shouted. "Let's see if you fit too!" She grabbed his wrist and pulled him toward her.

"Let go!" Kaiba screamed before he was pulled unwillingly into the mass of teenagers.

Unfortunately, the tub was not large enough for them all and bodies spilled out over the sides like overflowing water. Mad laughter filled the room and even more so when Beth accidentally turned on the shower, drenching Kaiba and Sarah who were the only ones left in the tub.

"Rain drops keep falling on my head…" Sarah sang. Kaiba reached over and shut the shower off with a displeased grunt.

"I can see clearly now the rain is gone," Sarah sang.

"Get out!" Kaiba commanded. "Get out now!"

The teens complied, shuffling out of the bathroom and into the spacious bedroom. Kaiba threw open the closet door, looking for something dry to wear, and was surprised to see Talon standing there, wearing his black shirt and gray slacks and his long, sleeveless, white coat. He stood speechless for a moment, noting how the long black sleeves and gray pant legs hung off of her short frame, and the long coat spread out behind her like the train from a wedding gown.

"What the hell--?"

"Da na na na na na," Talon said, bobbing her head up and down. "Da na na na na na."

The others joined in and soon the room was filled with the theme of the second level of Mario Brothers.

"Get out of my room!" Kaiba demanded. "Get out of my closet! Get out of my clothes!"

"That time he did tell me to take off my clothes," Talon nodded.

"GET OUT!"

"Vroom!" Talon shouted, dashing past him and out the door. Everyone but Kaiba followed and the cranky CEO slammed the door shut after them.

"You shouldn't be wearing my brother's clothes," Mokuba said, frowning at Talon.

"I do a lotta things I shouldn't do," she responded.

"What's next on the tour?" Libby asked, rubbing her hands together evilly.

Mokuba regarded her curiously. "Down the hall is the library," he said.

"Yay!" Talon cheered. "I like libraries!"

"I like chicken!" Libby added, twitching.

"I like Tady," said Josh.

"Awwww…" everyone but Mokuba cooed, holding their hands together in a heart shape. "Love."

Mokuba led the way down the hall and to the library. When he opened the door, Beth screamed, causing Libby to scream, causing Tady, Mara, Talon, Sarah, and Josh to scream. Mokuba jumped, startled.

"What's going on?" came the snarling voice of Seto Kaiba from behind them. The teens whirled around in surprise.

"That damn thing just scared the hell outta me!" Beth exclaimed, pointing accusingly at a model of a human skeleton over in the corner.

Kaiba sighed, exasperated. "Go in, look around. Don't break anything."

The teens lumbered in and began exploring. Upon not finding much but technical manuals and encyclopedias, they all filed back into the hall. While no one was looking, Talon stuck the skull of the skeleton in her newly-acquired coat.

"The next room is my brother's--" Kaiba began.

"No, Seto!" Mokuba shouted. "Don't tell them that!"

"And after all we've done for you," Josh remarked. "We even got you a playground."

"You didn't get me a playground!" he protested. "You just suggested it!"

"Close enough," Libby said, joining Tady, Mara, Talon, Beth, and Sarah who had already intruded in the boy's room.

"No!" Mokuba screeched, running after them with Kaiba and Josh trailing. Libby and Tady had found an electric train and were playing with it while Talon and Beth had turned on the Gamecube and Sarah and Mara had pulled down the game of Life and were racing the cars around the board. Josh ran in and joined Talon and Beth at the Gamecube.

"Get out, get out, get out!" Mokuba screamed. "You're gonna wreck my stuff! Seto, do something!"

As much as Kaiba preferred them all in Mokuba's room rather than in his own, he decided that it was not fair to his little brother to allow them to continue.

"Out! Now!" Kaiba commanded, pointing at the door for emphasis. But the teenagers paid him no heed.

"What then bitch?" Talon screamed as she raised her controller in triumph. "What then?!"

"I wanna play!" Josh said, reaching for the controller in her hand.

"NO!" she shrieked. "You can have Beth's controller."

"I do not think so, sir," Beth replied. "Let's play again! And this time I shall defeat you!"

"I wanna be the police officer!" Mara announced. "Then I get to speed!'

"I think I can, I think I can, I think I can," Libby chanted as the train went up a small hill. Mokuba ran over and unplugged the train and the Gamecube.

"What the hell?" Talon screamed. "What the frickin' hell?!"

"Get out!" Mokuba demanded. He then slammed the board game shut and put it in the box. "Out!"

"You suck," Mara pouted, but the group slowly complied. Mokuba slammed the door shut behind them but not before Talon grabbed a bike helmet from his shelf and secretly stuck it in her coat.

"Let's hurry this up," Kaiba said. "Next is my office. It's being renovated so watch your step."

The group filed into the room and Talon promptly began sneezing.

"Achoo! Damn-- Achoo!-- sawdust…" she sniffed.

"Ooo, sharp pointy things!" Libby cheered, picking up some saws.

"Power tools!" Josh declared, an electric screw gun in each hand.

Kaiba gulped nervously. "Next room. Quickly." He led the way out and after a sigh of disappointment from the group, they followed. But no one noticed when Talon stuck two rolls of duct tape and a pair of worker's boots in her coat.

"I'm hungry," Mara announced.

"Mama wants her chicken!" Libby added.

"What do you gots to eat around here?" Talon inquired of Kaiba.

"We can visit the kitchen and you can select the meals you would like," Kaiba responded.

"But don't touch anything. Anything." He led the way down a long hallway, down another long hallway, down another and another until they entered the shiny white kitchen. Some people were already in there, wearing chef hats and aprons. "Tell them what you want," Kaiba instructed.

"Mama wants her chicken!" Libby screamed, twitching some more.

"What kind of chicken?" one of the chefs asked.

"Chicken fingers!" she replied. "With barbeque sauce!"

"I want a salad," said Beth.

"I need some chicken quesidillas," Talon announced.

"Beefaroni," said Mara.

"Chicken fingers with barbeque sauce," said Tady.

"Quesidillas!" Sarah announced.

And Josh ordered something too, but you can figure it out because the author doesn't know what kind of food he likes.

"Good, now let's get out of here and finish the tour before dinner," Kaiba said, retreating from the kitchen. Everyone complied but only one of the chefs noticed when Talon stuck five knives and two bananas in her coat.

"Next is the game room," Mokuba stated. "Maybe we can hang out in there until dinner."

"Ooo, games!" Sarah cheered, applauding.

"Do you have Candyland?" Josh asked.

"God, that game is so scary!" Talon shrieked.

"We should play The White Unicorn!" Mara declared.

"Or Titanic!" Tady added.

The teenagers cheered as they followed Kaiba and Mokuba down the hall to the very large doors of a very large room. Kaiba opened them and the teens filed in, ooing and awwing at the different things littering the room. There were video games, pool tables, dart boards, foosball, air hockey, and so many more things. The teens squealed in delight and began finding things for themselves to do.

"Yay, more sharp pointy things!" Libby cheered, picking up a few darts. Talon and Mara claimed one of the pool tables while Josh and Tady went to the foosball table. Beth and Sarah began a game of air hockey.

"Maybe this will keep them busy for a while," Mokuba said.

Kaiba nodded. "And prevent them from causing any more damage." Just as he said that, a dart came flying over from Libby's direction and he ducked, barely escaping the pointed projectile as it flew past and stuck in the wall behind him.

"I'll get it!" Talon declared, running over and retrieving the dart from the wall. "Heh, it sounded like I was gonna answer a phone," she mused.

"Watch what you're doing!" Kaiba snarled at Libby.

"What?" Libby asked as she turned around, simultaneously throwing the next dart. It barely missed Mokuba's arm and stuck into the wall.

"I'll get it!" Talon declared again, retrieving it as well.

"Seto, I'm scared!" Mokuba whined, tugging on his brother's jacket sleeve.

"We are good at scaring people," Mara nodded.

"Let's congo!" Libby announced and soon the teens had filed in line behind each other and were dancing around the room.

Kaiba and Mokuba stared speechless for a while until Mara randomly fell to the floor and Josh doubled over in giggles, smacking his head on the windowsill in the process. This, of course, proved very funny to everyone else and they joined them on the floor, rolling around in giggling spasms.

"Is dinner done yet?" Mokuba asked his brother nervously.

Kaiba gathered up his courage and approached the teens on the floor. "Listen up!" he shouted over their giggles. "I want you all to get up from the floor, brush yourselves off, and sit down calmly on the couch. Making no sound in the process. Now do it!"

The teens slowly complied, settling themselves down on the couch on the far side of the room, but not before Talon stuck a blue cube from the pool table in her coat. Kaiba and Mokuba stood before them, watching as each of them established a comfortable position.

"Now you are to stay there until dinner is ready," Kaiba announced.

"But what'll we do till then?" Tady asked.

"We'll--" Kaiba thought a moment. "We'll play a game."

"Ooo, what kind of game?" Beth inquired.

"A quiet one. The first one who talks loses. Ready, set, go."

"That's stupid," Talon pouted. "Oh wait… Damn it!"

The others suppressed their giggles as they continued the game. Soon however, Josh again doubled up in giggles and fell off the couch. Kaiba snarled angrily and demanded that he get back on the cushions, which he attempted to do for several minutes until he was somehow one-fourth on the couch, one-fourth on the floor and two-fourths upside-down. Kaiba sighed and let it pass.

The remaining contestants of the game silently snickered as they continued. It didn't take long until Beth burped loudly and Libby screamed something about needing to open a window. Tady, Mara, Sarah, and Mokuba continued the game.

Soon, Sarah snorted and busted out laughing, smacking her forehead on Mara's knee, causing the other girl to squeal in pain. Mokuba snickered slightly and Tady leapt up from her seat, proclaiming that she was the winner.

"That was a stupid game," Josh frowned. "Let's play Simon Says."

"I'm so scared of that game!" Talon shrieked.

"We'll play Simon Says," Kaiba announced. "I will be Simon."

"Wow Seto, I didn't know you liked that game," Mokuba wondered.

Kaiba made a grunt of some sort and began the game. "Simon says 'Sit on the couch'."

The contestants complied, sitting side by side each other. They sat still for a few moments until Beth demanded,

"What the hell? Are you gonna tell us something to do or what?"

"Simon didn't say 'Talk'," Kaiba growled. "Simon says 'Keep quiet'."

The tall CEO stood towering over the seated teens with a stoic look, his arms crossed in front of his chest. However unhappy the contestants looked, he was certainly beginning to like this game. They sat there for another few minutes until Lewis the butler entered the room, announcing that it was time for dinner. Kaiba grunted and began walking toward out of the room until he noticed that the others had not budged from their seats. He sighed.

"Simon says 'This game is over'," he stated. The teens stood and began following the CEO out the door. Suddenly, Talon stopped.

"Wait, wait, wait!" she declared. "I gotta show ya'll something!" she announced. She ran into a convenient closet in the room and slammed the door shut behind her.

"What're you doing in there?" Kaiba demanded sharply.

"Hold up, this won't take long!" came Talon's reply. There was a shuffling and a bustling in the closet for a few minutes until finally,

"Are you ready? Are you ready?" Talon's voice asked through the door.

"Yes! Yes!" Libby cheered. "We are ready!"

"Oh, the excitement!" Tady said.

"Just get on with it," Kaiba growled.

"Okay, okay," Talon's voice said. "Da da da da da da da!" She threw open the door and stepped out.

The others stood speechless, examining the sight before them. Talon had brown worker's boots on her feet. She had rolled up the gray pant legs to fit her better. There was a roll of gray duct tape wrapped around her right thigh. She had leather gloves that had obviously had the fingers torn from them on her hands and had rolled up the black sleeves to her wrists. She still had Kaiba's white coat on, but had done some major changes to it. On her left shoulder she had duct taped the skull from the skeleton in the library. On her right shoulder she had duct taped Mokuba's bike helmet to the sleeve. She had duct taped five knives to the helmet with the blades sticking out, and two bananas were horizontally stabbed onto them. And her hair was colored blue.

"What--?" Kaiba questioned, raising an eyebrow.

"I'm Legato!" Talon said, looking at him as if he were stupid. "Legato Bluesummers!"

"Ohhhh…" Mara said. "Why?"

"Because!" Talon replied. And apparently that was reason enough as no one else dared to

ask.

"Okay, dinner time!" Libby shouted.

"Follow me," Kaiba growled, leading the way out of the room.
